Came to River House to celebrate my cousin's birthday and had a great experience. We had a reservation for four and were seated right on time at a beautiful outdoor table overlooking the water. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and the staff surprised her with a complimentary birthday dessert, which was a very nice touch. It took us a while to finally try this restaurant, and overall we had a good experience, though there were a few areas that could use improvement. The valet situation on arrival was confusing. The line was long, no one explained whether tickets were given, and several guests were just leaving their cars without guidance. We waited until we reached the front to be sure, but never received a ticket. At the end, the valet asked for one, we said we hadn't gotten it, and thankfully he was still able to locate our car. The ambiance and outdoor patio were beautiful and made for a perfect waterfront anniversary dinner. The hostesses and wait staff surprised us with an anniversary card, which was such a thoughtful touch. We debated between splitting a bottle of wine or trying the prickly pear margaritas and chose the margarita, but it was overwhelmingly sweet and tasted more like fruit punch than a cocktail. We then ordered two glasses of red wine with dinner, but they arrived about ten minutes late, after we had already eaten most of the meal, and they were served ice cold. I don't mind slightly chilled red, but this tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for days, which was disappointing. The food, however, was excellent. The crazy tuna roll, crab cakes, and ribeye were all delicious, and the ribeye was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was kind but didn't really guide us through the menu beyond saying everything was great. A bit more detail would've helped, especially since I wouldn't have ordered the margarita had I known how sweet it was. Overall, we would definitely come back. I came here after living in Palm Beach Gardens for over a year on a lunch date with my boyfriend. We were sat down very promptly and the views were spectacular of the water view and were amazed by the beauty of the restaurant building. I will say the food is extremely overpriced for what you receive but that can be expected for such a beautiful restaurant on the water. If you're looking for better food I would suggest seasons 52 across the street and I was a bit upset the iced coffee was essentially hot coffee poured over ice so it tasted terrible. Will I be back? I've been to TRH a few times, thankfully all on company dime!!! First time was for happy hour then lunch a couple of times after that. Unfortunately, I don't think the atmosphere is great for a casual large party happy hour. But we made it work and by making it work I mean, we stood up around the inside bar almost the entire time. By the way, they have a bar outside as well. And every time I get the deviled eggs and the bacon, sweet deliciousness! And I'm typically not a fan of sweet meat, but it's something about that bacon. For lunch, I typically get a salad, the last time I had an ahi poke salad and honestly, it wasn't that good. I don't like when they sear poke on the outside; just serve it to me cold as it should be. The ambience outside is great; I'd much rather get a table by the water than a table inside which is a little dark. No complaints about service ever and be ready to valet park because that's all or mainly what they offer. You might be able to self park, but it's way in the back of the parking lot. Our friends were celebrating a birthday and picked the River House. We were seated inside. We enjoyed salads and entrees my husband and I split a Caesar salad and each ordered our own entrees. He ordered the short rib and I got the Parmesan crusted halibut. I thoroughly enjoyed my halibut but he was disappointed in the short rib. Usually it has gravy and it falls part easily with a fork. 3rd time here and each time excellent food and service. This time had the prime rib dip sandwich which was excellent. Prime rib perfectly seasoned and thinly sliced. Served with au jus and this was as close to perfection as you can get. My friend had the prime rib which he loved. Desserts were key lime pie and cinnamon bread pudding. Both were excellent. Key lime was one of the best I've had. Crust was a combination of grahocracker and macadamia nuts. Bread pudding tasted like a Cinnabon made into bread pudding. How can that be bad lol. The River House, then Brick Top, Now back to The River House. The very popular and very good River House restaurant has changed hands a bit over the years. (For those of you who didn't have the pleasure of dining at the original River House, it was fantastic!) The location is the same, so still very pretty, on the Intracoastal waterway, with a lovely outdoor area to wait (and, wait you will, if you don't have a reservation). The interior was renovated a few years ago, and is very pleasant, warm and modern-ish, with a nod to the boatsy surroundings. The bar is large and welcoming, and serves good, charred, grapefruit martinis. The menu has become less seafood leaning (there are fewer great seafood options). Now, burgers, chicken and steak offerings outshine the seafood, (we so miss the grouper in a bag). Last evening, we started our meals with the wedge salad, which was crispy, fresh and very good. We then opted for the fish and chips and halibut. While the fish quality in the fish and chips was good, it was not crispy enough, and was too, too, heavily breaded. The quality of the halibut was also very good, and, while it was tasty, it was a tad overcooked. The accompanying spinach, however, was delicious, perfectly sautéed and fresh. The service was polite and pleasant. The River House holds a special, nostalgic place in our restaurant repertoire. The atmosphere remains lovely, the service is friendly, and the food, while no longer great, is good and fresh. We still recommend The River House for a pleasant dining experience while in the Palm Beaches. read more

We had a 6pm reservation that they wanted to seat us outside when it was raining, with my 80 year old mother in law. They said it would be another 20-30 min wait for inside. Why bother making a reservation that they don't honor. The host girls were snotty. Then the manger with the accent wasn't any better. They were talking down to us. We were trying to be patient but 30 mins after our reservation time we still didn't have a table. The management could have cared less. Things are expensive these days and i don't want to spend my money in an establishment that couldn't care less about my business. I am not seasonal, live here year round. Not a restaurant that i would Go back to. We left and went to another restaurant that we felt welcomed. read more

My only suggestion is to change in the sushi menu Crab to Krap, that is the way to let the consumer knows that you are using imitation crap and we don't occur to order something we don't like. I really enjoyed my brunch experience at The River House! My husband and I brought my mother-in-law there to celebrate their birthdays, and the team truly delivered on making it special. We arrived with our own cake, which the staff promptly offered to refrigerate and cut for us. We also brought a bottle of champagne as a gift, and they suggested presenting it on ice at the table for a corkage fee--AMAZING. Our server was attentive throughout, making us feel well cared for and celebrated the entire time. The food exceeded everyone's expectations. My shrimp and grits were exceptional--perhaps the best I've had in years, which says something coming from a Southerner. When it came time for dessert, they brought out our cake and even wrapped the leftovers neatly for us to take home. The combination of outstanding service, beautiful scenery, and excellent food left such an impression that we made reservations for two weeks later before we even left. Had an amazing meal at River House in Palm Beach Gardens and I'd highly recommend it. I started with the Heirloom Tomato Salad, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. For my main, I had the snapper special and subbed in a baked potato instead of the sautéed spinach--a great call, as everything was cooked to perfection and clearly top-quality. The setting was stunning, with a beautiful waterfront view from the covered patio. It was definitely lively (and loud), but the energy added to the experience rather than taking away from it. Even with how busy they were, the service was impeccable--attentive, friendly, and never rushed. For great seafood, a fantastic atmosphere, and top-notch service, River House is a must-visit in Palm Beach Gardens. read more

Went to River House on April 26 to celebrate my 80th birthday. My wife had visited the restaurant several weeks before to make the arrangements and select a table. We were given an alcove near the water for a private table for 11. Upon arrival on the 26th we were told that the table wasn't ready yet and were told that we couldn't even see it to set some decorations my wife had brought. The hostess was very abrupt and dismissive. Eventually we were told that the original table was no longer available because another patron had "paid" for it. We all know what that means. Miss "self important" took a bribe. We were seated in the main dining room next to the bathroom. Oh boy real festive. Not even an apology from the hostess. From that point on, however, the staff really stepped up. The service was friendly and well paced. The food was excellent and well prepared. Our guests realized the seating issue and were able to overlook it to enjoy a nice evening with friends and family. I would like to think this was a one off rare occurrence, but past experience indicates it's not. Ownership should be aware of what is going on here. read more

Hitting the Palm Beach area and getting together for a relative's bday @ this fancy-casual spot right next to the canal front... just delivers...if you don't want to spend that much money forget about it, because you will still end hungry and loose on money. The setup morphs very easily from an elegant to a social place to suit any occasion. As appetizers, our party ordered several salads: Ceasar Classic: grated parmesan, toasted ciabatta croutons, which was disappointing, the dish was very small and it was just a mix of lettuce with some croutons, not worth it). The Wedge butter lettuce, chopped bacon, cucumber, egg blue cheese, or Thousand Island which was way better than the Caesar, but still not something I would recommend to order. It was just all the elements mixed in the bowl, again nothing special. From all the entrees, I would just go with the Shanghai Shrimp That consists of lightly battered jumbo shrimp tossed in sweet & spicy sauce, served with ponzu...(the sauce was on point and the shrimp were very crispy) Another good appetizer was the Blue Point Oysters / Connecticut...the tomato sauce and lemon spread really add a completely sophisticated flavor to eat. I'm not a fan of oysters, but these ones were very good because of the sauce. Then we went with the entrees: Crab Cakes jumbo lump crab, rémoulade sauce served with French fries. The crab cakes were small but very fresh. If you are very hungry order something else. The best part of it was the french fries my favorite thing from all the order, you NEED to order them if you are a french fries fan. Precisely thin cut and fried. Cedarwood Planked Salmon with lemon seasoning. Fresh and the lemon touch makes it a little bit bitter but blends very well. Atlantic Salmon pan-roasted served with roasted cauliflower that didn't have anything special. Chicken Milanese With champagne beurre blanc, served with Fettuccine Alfredo. One of my favorite dishes ... the chicken was on point, and the sauce super creamy and buttery. The fettuccine was al dente Tavern Burger two griddled patties, caramelized onion, American cheese, secret sauce (nothing so secret or special about it) / wouldn't suggest it overall. Primed Meatloaf served with whipped potatoes. Nice but not impressive. The meat was fresh, but not remarkably good. Ribeye bathed in hotel d' maitre butter and as a side a baked potato. The meat was super fresh and tender, but also nothing of a wao factor. The potato was really upsetting. Just a whatever potato baked and served. Steak Frites , sliced steak house served with a delicious sauce verte that makes the dish unique and very flavorish as it adds a buttery touch to it. The french fries were thin-cut and super crispy, just how I them. Best dish to order. To me, it was the top winner, even though the meat was overcooked, still the verte sauce makes it very special. We paired the food with a subtle Decoy wine We brought a bday cake, so I can't judge on desserts. Service sometimes abandoned us and didn't stand out. Overall, this place really misses on being remarkable. It is very unfortante because the setting is ideal to take the customer to an unforgettable experience, but that's not the case at all, especially considering the pricing, you can even feel you were robbed. Suggestion: put more emphasis on food details and introduce unique recipes. read more

I was invited here for a friend's birthday party on a busy Saturday night in Season. People were pouring into this place like it was the only game in town and I wondered how they were going to serve all these people. Definitely make a reservation for without it, you likely will not get seated. While we wanted to sit outside on their patio, it was one of those crazy chilly nights we are having right now so inside seating was a must! We were seated in the back and it looked like every table around us was celebrating something as they were all tables of 6-8 and everyone was giving gifts etc. This must be a popular celebration spot. We were a party of six and our server, Lannie, took excellent care of us. I love it when a server doesn't get flustered by a range of food requests as there were a couple in our group with a range of special requests. The food was great and came out in a timely manner. My wedge salad was a little different than what I expected but tasted just fine (it's deconstructed so not really a wedge) The Tuna tartar was fresh and beautifully presented. I had the Grouper topped with crab meat and it was perfectly done. And that loaded baked potato that I ordered? Be still my carb loving heart! Others in our group had the prime rib and the beef wellington and everyone raved about their food. All in all we had a great celebration and got to sing happy birthday along with the rest of the surrounding tables. We had a reservation for 8 for Father's Day at 7pm. I completely understand this is one of the more busy days of the year, but by the time we got there a majority of people were leaving or finishing up, maybe 3 or 4 more people sat after us in our area. Service was incredibly slow it took 15 minutes just for someone to greet us for drinks, and then took another 20 before we got said drinks. It was an 50 minutes before we even were able to order our food with a server. Luckily, food came out. Drink refills were slow, on original order they didn't bring out enough water and never bothered to try to bring more water until 1.5hrs into the meal, when we had just received our food. We ate quickly, as we were starving by the time food arrived. I ordered the steak frites - medium and cooked perfectly for me, it was fantastic - but maybe I am biased because it took so long to get to us so the hunger may have clouded my judgement. From the time we ordered our food, our server disappeared, it took 25 minutes (after finishing eating) for our server to bring us a check and (see photo) the restaurant was empty at that point, she just disappeared. Our visit leaves much to be desired and from this service experience, I don't foresee myself returning. Oh - valet confused my parties keys and had them switched, not the biggest deal as the cars wouldn't start in the lot, but interesting to note the lack of attention to detail. read more

The patio seating is lovely by the water and their tiki bar outside has a fun vibe. Their dinner is nothing extraordinary or super memorable. It was extremely frustrating because we were seated right in front of the kitchen, watching servers go back and forth, yet no one even noticed us. I was already counting the seconds to leave when someone finally came to take our order. When the food arrived, mine was almost cold, as if it had been sitting out for a while. I didn't want to upset my husband, but we didn't even order dessert. I never want to go back. To make matters worse, more and more people kept coming in. Beautiful restaurant. Lovely staff. Great food. Impressive wine list to offer. The outside covered seating is perfect for dinner. Highly recommend the lobster tails (two beautiful Maine lobster tails), the prime rib (massive, great cut), and the panko crusted sea bass (with an Asian ginger sauce, it was moist, amazingly flavorful, and a sizable piece of fish). The French fries were shoe strings so great and crispy. The crispy brussel sprouts weren't super crispy but good nonetheless.
