Two stars because Johnny picked up the phone right away when I called and sent a tech to my house the same day. The guy, Chris was really nice and seems professional enough and answered questions about where the mice in our house is coming in from. However we are not quite convinced. Also, we caught a live mice inside an upside down bucket and after he gave us a quote which we think is high, we requested if he can please take the little mouse and put it in a bag for us, he jumped and was stunned when he realized the mouse is still alive, it gave us a few laughs to see a rodent tech kinda scared to catch a trapped little mouse. However I do commend Johnny for trying to help us and sending us a person right away, thus, 2 stars. No offense meant for this review, just being honest. They completed the work and the person who came to my home seemed experienced and was a professional. It took me a while to choose which company to hire because the work needed was very expensive, and now I feel like I made a huge mistake... They broke my marble stairs. My husband had warned the technicians to be careful with the floor so that they would not damage it with their tools. It still happened, and when I called to complain about it, they did not help at all. They simply said that "the floor was like that when technicians arrived," which is simply not true. For that reason, I cannot and will not recommend them. read more

Very happy with this company. I live in the canyons and rats are definitely an issue. First hired Johnny Rat years ago, when I opened my pantry and discovered that I had a massive infestation. They fixed it using a gel that smells like garlic and which rats apparently detest. It took a few months, but worked and was well worth it. Then I used bait boxes for a few years to deal with stragglers, but I stopped when I learned that the poison moves up the food chain and hurts wildlife (rat eats poison, hawk eats rat, etc). So I didn't do anything and one night I looked outside under my bird feeder and there were, literally, like 20 rats having a party. Called John and asked if there was anything non-toxic that he could do. He suggested a new repellent called Pro-pel, it isn't toxic to people/dogs/wildlife, its something they spray around the perimeter. Takes a month or two to kick in, and you have to sign up for a one-year contract to have them come monthly and reapply the stuff. Worth every penny - very few rats after first application, none at all after second application, doesn't smell bad, doesn't poison wildlife and doesn't leave decapitated rats the way traps do. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Amazingly honest. First let me set the scene. Because my husband is stingy with air condition (even in the Valley) he opens the door to let the air in during the evening... and leaves it open for a few hours. (now that I've left that out there-- on to the story) Two nights ago, I heard rustling in some plastic bags in the corner of our room. Turned the light on and found nothing. Later in the evening, I heard some shampoo bottles moving in the shower-- again since it was 2am, I wasn't thinking straight, and I just assumed they fell down off the shelf because of house settling. Two or so hours later, my husband sits up and I feel something run across my leg. He said, something bit me on my finger. There's a bit of blood. Now I can't sleep. There was a spider in the ceiling earlier in the night. I'm not afraid of spiders, so I ignored it. But that wasn't a spider bite. Last night, anxious about the night before-- sleeping(ish)-- heard rustling. Heard the shampoo bottle move again. Husband tried to claim it was "just the shampoo bottles" but I forced him to check it out. EEEEEEKKKKK!!!!! Rat in shower! Closed the door and trapped it in there. Sat up for 2 hours wondering what we could do with a rat trapped in the bathroom (and listened to its anxious skitterings) Called Johnny Rat b/c of good reviews here and on Angies List. Now obviously we're in a state of anxiety and sleep deprivation. And we have two little girls (one a baby that we don't really want around a biting rat). He could have tried to sell us on a massive treatment and prevention project. BUT-- he came, checked out the place, let us know that there are no entry points in the attic or exterior (other than the front door-- see above). There is no evidence of rats in the attic... so our friend was probably an outlier. And our technician didn't charge us at all. Meanwhile the rat who had been trapped in the bathroom chewed a hole in the screen and scaled down from our 2nd floor bathroom window to the yard below. So its gone too... good riddance. read more

Very accommodating and helpful. Initially, they said they couldn't get a man to come for two days, then checked their schedule and got a guy out the same day, on the early side of the noon-4 pm window they specified. He thoroughly checked the area where rat droppings appeared, then checked all the rooms, as well as my attic, ascertaining that there wasn't an infestation problem, but that one rat may have gained entry, possibly thru an open screen door or a small tear in a window screen; we tossed out the cardboard box where the droppings were, but it appeared the 'visitor' had likely exited the way he came in and was out of the house. Very helpful, knowledgeable guy, super helpful phone rep, and they didn't charge me a dime. Now I'm getting my window screens repaired so this will be an isolated incident. Great job. read more

BEWARE!!!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE this place has a 5 star rating. They're the BIGGEST SCAM ARTISTS IN TOWN!! BEWARE!! THEY RIP YOU OFF!!! FIRST the guy tried to tell me we had a dead squirrel on the roof, which he wouldnt remove unless we did what he said...his words. Then he said he can and seal all holes for $900!!!!! SERIOUSLY???? SO because we didnt do this, he wouldnt remove the dead squirrel!!!!. What we paid him for was to place traps, and he'd come back 3 times to check them. A whopping $185!!! I could've done them myself! Well after the first visit, he said they placed the traps all over my attic. I took his word for it, On his 2nd visit, he claimed CLAIMED, that they reset the traps and put in more bait. He refused STILL to remove the dead squirrel, because it had been raining. WTF???? WHAT BABIES!!!! Then on the final visit they were 7 and a half hours LATE!!!! YEAH!!! YOU heard right! Then we find out,on this visit that they never even spaced the traps out in the attic!!! They threw them all right inside the attic opening so that they wouldnt have to walk around up there! And the one main guy, told us he had to go sit in the truck because he was TOO HOT!!! If I could give them minus stars , I would. Run. I hired them to deal with rodents at my house and duplex. From start to finish they were a nightmare. They use an intense garlic gel, it is gross and only lasts a few months. The guy that did the estimate said that they would be sealing all the holes and cleaning everything up. What they did do was put the gross garlic gel around. They missed a ton of holes, large gaping holes, one was 12 inches by 2 inches. I finally gave up on trying to get them to do the work that I paid them for and hired somebody else. I also hired somebody to fix my dryer because the Johnny rat guys sealed up the dryer vent - they left a ton of open holes but did seal the dryer vent. The traps they put down were not armed and they never did the final check - I received a call confirming the appointment but they never showed and didn't return my calls. Once my check cleared they were done. The cleaning up the estimator said would happen never happened, not even close. They did the "work" in spring of 2014 - I wrote a review on angie's list at that time - just came across them on yelp and thought I'd do you all a favor, seriously you would be better off throwing your money in the trash - these guys are the worst. They posted a response to my review on angie's list that was totally bogus, they didn't even respond to the angie's list mediator or return my calls. I quit angie's list thanks to johnny rat, yelp is so much better. read more

He was very polite and very helpful. He educated me about my problem and then gave me several cost-effective options to choose from. In the end he didn't charge a dime for the service call and helped me understand how to fix my problem for only $20.
