I had the double bacon cheddar burger, medium rare, and wow... it was one of those moments where you just stop and say, this is a GREAT burger. Juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Not the meal I was wanting, but it filled the void of not getting the meal I wanted. I know Johnny Rockets is a gimmicky tourist spot more and more now, but their service is always above par. After being defeated at a nearby establishment I needed food after a long day of travel and before settling in for the night. Not much was open for a quick bite and time was starting to dwindle for me. I had seen this location as I passed on my way up the boardwalk and figured I would get this a try on my way back. Entrance is through the inside to this spot. When I came in I was immediately greeted and asked if I wanted to sit inside or outside. With the wind whipping up outside I wanted inside. However, the hostess thought I said outside, with a quick correction, I was seated at a table, yes a table, all to myself. Immediately I was greeted by my server. See, that's how not being ignored works. Put my drink order in and was left to look over the menu. By the time the server came back I was ready to order. I got the Rocket Double, Tots with Cheese, and a Dr. Pepper. My server went off and I was left to my own. This location was kind of amazing and what I expected of it. Unlike some locations, the staff weren't dressed up in the 50s diner attire, but more of a laidback t-shirt and jeans type of atmosphere. The inside made you feel like a 50s diner, chrome, counter, small jukeboxes on the table. It's what you expect of one of these, and it's exactly what you get. My order trickled out. My drink, then shortly after the Tots with Cheese. I had to pick at those until the Rocket Double arrived. Food was what I expected. I just wish there was more cheese on the tots, it felt like they just put enough on there for the color and that was it. The burger was what I wanted and the service was amazing. Went to this old school spot for lunch on our mini vacation...We were greeted with a smile from Willy and seated in a perfect location where we could still see the water... He took our order without writing it down and remembered everything! I got the chili cheese dog, delicious and cooked to perfection, just the way I ordered it and I like it (which I did request from Willy and they followed my instructions). Mom got the grilled cheese, which was basic but still good (I took a bite...lol)...We shared the fries... I've never been to a Johnny Rockets before - and this was a great first introduction. Chain restaurants overall I think gets too much hate - this isn't meant to be a gourmet food experience. The place advertises its affordable burgers and fries and it delivers that excellently. The fries and tater tots are good, solid sides - they're fried well and taste exactly how you'd expect fries and tater tots to taste like. Their burgers are cooked to medium well (as burgers should be) but still retain juiciness. For something that is right on the AC boardwalk, it was very reasonably priced - and it even had vegetarian options for all their burgers. I love diners and the diner vibe - and this one delivers on that. Our waitress was also very nice - she joked around with us and regularly checked in to make sure we were happy with our food and offer drink refills. Very busy location but it's still a good one. I was with one other person and the one way to get a spot without a wait was to take seats at the counter which was fine. It's located between Hard Rock and Caesar's. There was outdoor seating as well. Even though it was busy our server took our orders after a very short wait and the food came out pretty quickly and it was good. They were also out of a few items(onion rings and something else). Not sure if it was from being busy or they just ran out. Our server was very nice though and polite. The milk shakes are amazing. This time I had a Peanut Butter and Banana shake. Probably the worst grilled cheese sandwich I ever had. The cheese was processed crap and the bread was of the poorest quality possible. And it wasn't even grilled right. If you go on the weekends, be prepared for a long wait with chaotic staff. If you're placing a to-go order...you have to do so while standing outside, through a tiny window...even if it's pouring raining). With all this being said...why the 4 star rating? Well, it's because after all the chaos and frustration, once seated...the food is good, fresh, hot and delicious. Food was great, we ordered some basic food like a Caesar Salad, Fries, Oreo Shake and Onion Rings to share! Nothing was too greasy and everything tasted great but the portion sizes are quite large. I went with a Double Bacon Cheeseburger and Cheese Tots, which was $15. The burger was okay, nothing special, but there was a good amount of bacon and it's a big burger. The cheese tots were awesome. The scene was wild in there. I went after partying and the crowd was filled with gamblers, clubbers, etc. We got a table pretty quickly but that was probably the only quick thing about my experience. The wait for food was almost 45 even with the crowd it's pretty long. Luckily it was an opportunity to people watch while my stomach create knots. The food was awesome I will give them that. Obviously, not a 5 star glamour spot. Johnny Rocket's is a burger joint. Similar to Five Guys, SmashBurger, etc. Simple menu of burgers and fried foods. When we visit Atlantic City (about 5 times per year), we usually stay 3 nights. We enjoy one night at a forma sit down, one night at a new place that we have not tried, and always one night right here at JR. Burgers are always juicy and great. Tater tots RULE. The place is always pop'n and very busy, but they move through tables fast and the staff are always a lot of fun and very pleasant. Been here over 20 times, and never had a bad meal, or server with an attitude. Again, it's just a burger place. But you can get sit down, have a cheap meal and it's good.
