We stopped in here for shakes/floats while shopping in the mall one afternoon. Service was quick and good, my float was great and the waiter offered to refill my soda. Carousel Mall, that behemoth bastion of shopping, has shit restaurants. There is JRockets, an Unos and a food court. Not at all fancy like our Buffy Galleria with Melting Pot, Cheesecake Factory, Jack Astor's or Bar Louie. Wanting to grab a quickish bite to eat, we headed to JRockets. Since the kitchen/diner prep area is right in the middle of the restaurant, you leave smelling like a fryer. Most of the patrons looked like they could have used some time away from said fryer. Our waitron was an oddity. She was from outer space. I don't get the little ketchup dishes that they draw ketchup smiley faces on, and I find them to be wasteful. I can dump ketchup on my plate. The upsell is annoying, the free refills on soda rock. My chicken club was MASSIVE and TASTY but I took out the middle layer of bread. I wish restaurants made "normal" sized food. Was here Thursday night/early Friday morning for Black Friday shopping, the bar area was pretty empty so my girlfriend and I decided to stop by and grab a late night meal. Had great service, our food came out in a decent amount of time and was very good! I got the Smoke House Double and it was so good! Meat was delicious and had a good proportion of toppings on it. My two friends and I arrived at around five o'clock on a Saturday, there was a short line to sit down but we did not have to wait more than five minutes. We sat a long table with another party to the left of us, but it was not an issue. We all ordered burgers with fries and one of their famous milkshakes! I ordered the original burger (served with tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles, and mustard and mayonnaise on top) and was not disappointed. Really gross. Johnny Rockets are typically decent and fun for families with small kids. This one fails on so many levels. The atmosphere isn't in line with other JRs across the nation. The food quality is poor. Actually, it made two thirds of our party sick to their stomachs. Loaded fries were too wet and soggy to even eat. Burgers were dry and lacking in flavor. They tasted overly of cow if that makes sense. Perhaps food safety corners are cut? The oreo shake was good, but not enough to redeem the main food and the poor service. This was one time I nearly felt inclined to leave a "bad tip," but couldn't muster it as you never know the circumstances to why your service was poor. Oh well. We will avoid this place at all costs. I always try to give a restaurant a second chance because everyone has an off night. It will be awhile before I return. The server was very pleasant and professional. Food was promptly prepared and delivered. While I like retro music, it was very hard to hear what was playing due to a poor sound system. I've been going here for years and have rarely been disappointed. There's something about a Johnny Rocket burger that always hits the spot - must be something in all that grease! I'm a sucker for their fries as well. They have the right amount of starch to them, and there's nothing better than dipping them in a dish for smiley faced ketchup. I love this restaurant! I'm so glad there is finally one in the Syracuse region! The food here is always served relatively quick and hot! It is also always wonderful, especially the Oreo shakes the staff are all always so friendly and fun but, My boyfriend has a favorite waiter, Steve. He is so fun and you can really tell he likes what he does. The fries are amazing and the ketchup smileys are so cute! The saving grace at this restaurant is our waitress was sweet & did her job nicely. I left her a 20% tip for that. Food is WAY overpriced. For $8.50 you get a McDonald's dollar meal cheeseburger. And then you have to pay $2 more for fries. I was so disappointed as this excursion for 2 people cost $25. Stay clear of this place. Want a good burger in Syracuse? Head to Blarney Stone. The Swiss cheese was almost absent as if it were melted off; I definitely could not taste it or even see it other than a small piece of burnt cheese on the edge of the burger. This is a chain restaurant that is 50s diner themed. I do not recall if this one has jukeboxes the way their other locations do. This store is located upstairs in Destiny USA mall. I tried the spicy Houston burger with brioche bun (single patty is around 600 calories and the double is around 800 calories). The patty tasted like Burger King's charbroiled burgers. The lettuce in the burger was oversized but I'd prefer it be too big than too small. I got a side of onion rings for less than $5 (but was around 900 calories). They brought out a batch and said I could munch on that batch while they cooked up a new/fresher batch. I was confused what was wrong with the first batch but I realized (after the 2nd came out) that the first one might have been twice fried (re-fried older ones?) so it was darker/tougher/harder. The newer batch had a nicer crunch to it that wasn't too hard. Either way, I ended up getting two times the amount of a regular order. Their onion rings are battered with sourdough bread crumbs. I liked that they weren't as sweet as some of the onion rings at other fast food burger joints. Last Saturday evening I went Syracuse Destiny USA to make some shopping. I had no intention to have a dinner in the mall because I don't like food courts. When I stepped up food court floor I saw Johnny Rockets and its atmosphere appealed me. It was a few feet distant from the food court so there was no big noise and crowd. Its furniture was cute and clean. Staff was welcoming, even one of the waiters was singing while serving. I decided to try Johnny Rockets. They are serving to tables but it has not a big menu. I chose grilled chicken which is served only with hamburger bun. I do not like sweet taste of hamburger bun. When I told about my distaste of the bun, the waiter (Jamaal) offered to use sour dough bread instead . With fries and diet coke my order summed up to 13 dollars. I have eaten here on several occasions but last night was probably the best one yet. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful and made sure we were content for the entire meal. The food is always yummy and this time we were excited to see that we could get movie tickets for 7 bucks with our dinner which was perfect for the occasion. I was going to give this 4 stars because the service was SO good but the food was a little under par. My mom got a chili cheese dog which they have changed from years ago. The dog is now long and thin and they were a little stingy on the chili. I got a salad with the dressing on the side. As someone to doesn't eat meat or gluten (mostly vegan diet), it was my only option, which I'm not complaining BUT the tomatoes in my salad looked like they were taken out of another dish and put in mine. The tomato had some tuna fish on them and other had some small pieces of bread. Due to me being very sensitive to this, I was very turned off. I won't go here again, or if I do, I will probably ask for just lettuce, but the service was seriously amazing. We had Jared and he was great. Also, as someone who has been coming here for over 10 years, one server has been there the whole time, so it must be a nice place to work.
