Pros: The food was good. There's inside seating so you can get out of the cold on those Kennywood Lights nights in December. Cons. We ordered a cheeseburger, fries, soda, & a kid's meal (which comes with fries & a soda). They brought my soda to the table, but not the soda for the kid's meal. Then we sat and waited for our food. And waited. And waited. There were SO many people behind the counter (top count was 17) but only about 4 were actually doing anything. I sat & watched two different people drinking sodas (or whatever were in their cups) and others leaning on the prep counters. Not something you want to see people doing where your food's being prepared! Not sure why, with that many people, it took fifteen minutes to get a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets. It wasn't busy. When we finally got our food, it wasn't hot. You'd think since we waited so long that it would be freshly cooked, so it would be hot. Nope. The burger patties must be cooked ahead of time. And it shows. And all that's after paying $28 for a cheeseburger, order of fries, soda, and a kid's meal. Kennywood has so many options for food that I've never really given this place a shot. However, I have a season dining pass and it's included and has AC so I thought why not ‍ I ordered the black bean burger. It was delicious! Has a little bit of a kick but it's not bad. Filled with corn and super filling too. The texture takes a little getting used to but I enjoyed it. Their fries are amazing. Not potato patch amazing, but they definitely taste homemade. My niece got the chicken tenders. They were crispy and perfect, definitely not the frozen to microwave kind. She also got the pink lemonade which was refreshing and flavorful. We definitely enjoyed it. Just wish more of the menu was included in the meal plan. read more

Garbage. The kiosk got the numbers on my ticket wrong so they called out the wrong number for 20 minutes. Crappy burnt burger and greasy fries. Every table was dirty when other employees were sitting in the back doing nothing. We brought it up and they handed us a rag to clean it ourselves. No ice in the ice machine and half the sodas were just water. Their response to us telling them was "that just means the syrup needs replaced." Well how about somebody do that?? read more

This is a review for the Johnny Rockets inside of Kennywood. The service was extremely slow. There was only one cashier and he rang up our drinks wrong on the receipt and we didn't realize until they delivered them he rang up a coffee and an unsweetened tea and we ordered a Pepsi and a brisk iced tea. We couldn't get our drinks fixed since they were rang up wrong in the first place. The food was really expensive for what you got. Our total came to almost sixty dollars. I got the smokehouse burger it was ok it was really dry though and the bacon was very over cooked. The burger could have used more sauce or something since it was so dry. I don't think I'd try this place inside Kennywood again maybe at another location. read more

Placing the order was a breeze and didn't expect the prices to be as high as they were. The original burger and large fries and a kids size milkshake was $16.00. The burger was "ok". It was smothered in mustard and pickles, onions etc. It was tasty but not worth the price. I thought the fries would be like shoestring fries but they were not. I ordered the "large" size and expected there to be more. The small size must be really small. I think the restaurant is a nice touch at Kennywood. It was nice to sit in air conditioning and use a restroom that didn't smell like a gym locker room or was hot. The service was good and there was plenty of seating. Johnny Rockets is a chain restaurant that is modeled after the 50s style jukebox days. They have the old fashioned record player selection at each table and at the counter so you can select what you want to hear. No cost to it but no guarantee either that the song you picked might be played. Occasionally, some of the staff will come out and do a "dance' to a classic tune. It is air conditioned to get out of the heat. My daughter and I were seated at the counter. She ordered a foot long with chili and cheese. I settled for a chicken salad. Service was a bit slow but they were quick to bring it out when ready. My daughter enjoyed her meal because she was hungry. I found that my chicken was a bit tough and the greens it sat on pretty much the same way. Normally i would have sent it back but since we wanted to enjoy the park I ate it. They do specialize in shakes and floats but we didn't have the time for them. On the plus side service was good and our waitress attentive. I did find if you look around the perimeter around the the ceiling you will find various pictures of Kennywood in yesteryears. read more

I ordered a veggie burger, fries, and a drink. It was almost $20, which doesn't sound bad until you consider how many fries there are and how tiny the burgers are. I sat at the counter and watched my burger sit for 20 minutes before they finally brought it to me. It was extremely flat, barely cooked, and the fries weren't any better. Discovered the burger was stone cold and returned it to total confusion of eight children behind the counter. Stood there waiting for new burger which was barely recognizable as the type I ordered. What a crappy experience. Just because we adults at a kid park doesn't mean we want crappy food and surly service. The last Johnny Rockets I was at I wasn't impressed at all, but this one, in an amusement park no less, was a very nice surprise. The food at this JR was way better the last one I was at. The burgers were cooked well and stacked high, the fries were hot, and the salad was huge and fresh. The service was very good, with a young waitress that had to deal with the shenanigans from our table - she handled it well. And the place was super clean, surprising. Onside ring it's smack dab in the middle of the park. As far as dessert is concerned we didn't have desert or shakes, but fro the looks of those around us who did order, they appeared very tempting. Sometimes you have try a different location for a chain to get a true feel for how good it could be. read more

I visited here for the first time at Kennywood. I have been wanting to but normally they are very busy. I got to Kennywood early and went straight to Johnny Rockets and entered about 11:15. My order was taken right away. It took really long to get my food. Especially since no one else was in the restaurant. I waited by the jukebox so my son would be entertained. As I was waiting I was looking around. The floors are absolutely disgusting, like they have never been cleaned. And remember I was the only customer in there at that time. I counted I believe 4 workers and they were all behind the counter some looking like they weren't doing anything! Why aren't they cleaning?? Even though I waited a good while, my food I have to say was really good. It pays being one of the first and I got some nice hot fries. I also ordered the black bean burger which I have to say was good and I'm glad I chose to get that today. I will come back since I had good food. Johnny Rockets is an indoors eatery at Kennywood that replaced what was once a multi-food vendor pavilion. They pretty much offer burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers - those sorts of foods, but in an old fashioned, diner-inspired eatery instead of an amusement park food stand. I stopped in for my first meal here with a friend recently and have to say, I like this addition to the park. For one thing, it's air conditioned - something that I think we can all appreciate given the temperatures we've had this summer! It's admittedly not the cheapest place to eat but it's not outrageously pricey either. I think that's to be expected in an amusement park. But frankly, given the overcooked garbage other amusement parks have tried to feed me for these prices, I can't complain about Johnny Rockets at all! My friend went with a standard cheeseburger and I went for the Route 66 (a fancy name for a swiss, 'shroom and onion burger). I'd been worried about the food quality after the place's notorious growing pains last year, but fortunately the burgers my friend and I got were both quite juicy and tasty. We were both also pleased that side salads were an option we could order, instead of us being limited to the usual "burger and fries" order. Add in the fact that the staff were super friendly and the meals came to us in a timely manner (especially considering that there was a 12-person party in the building with us - the staff were juggling their duties well that day!), and we were both happy and left feeling energized and ready for more rides. We didn't get milkshakes this time around as we wanted to get ice cream elsewhere after we left Kennywood, so no comment on those. Still, I would absolutely stop in to eat here again - as long as they weren't jam packed, at least. Sorry, but while a 30 or 45 minute break from the park is nice on a hot summer day, any more time than that is just cutting into my ride time too much! read more

Since seeing coverage of Johnny Rocket's opening on the local news, my daughter had been pretty gung-Ho about trying Kennywood's new eating establishment. Who could blame her? The place was packed, there were balloons everywhere, the music was pumping, and Kenny the Kangaroo was there dancing his tail off with the enthusiastic waitstaff. It looked like any seven-year-old's dream. When we decided to hit Kennywood for the 4th of July, we knew it would be crowded but we figured as long as we could put our name on the wait list and go enjoy the park, it would be no big deal. We went with another couple, so there were four adults and one child in our party. As we walked up to the restaurant, we saw a line of frustrated folks standing at the door. We got in line, though we were not yet frustrated. We listened to the people in front of us, who all seemed overly appalled at the two-hour wait. We discussed it and decided that again, as long as they would text us when our table was ready, we would go get a pre-dinner snack and hit some rides. We got to the front of the line and the poor girl taking names didn't even want to put us on the list because "the wait is so long I am afraid to even give you a wait time and be wrong." We told her we didn't care, just put us on and we'd come back. She did, and we walked away. Around the restaurant. See, the thing is that the restaurant is circular in shape and has windows all around it. As we walked past, we noticed the large number of empty tables and were slightly perplexed. Of course we realize that some tables will be empty as they wait for the party to return, but more than half of the tables were empty. More than HALF. Yet they were turning people away at the door and not even putting their names on the list without being cajoled. Ever the optimist, I conjectured that perhaps they had a large number of staff call off because it was a holiday. Another member of our party who was less forgiving than I took this opportunity to go up to the window and count employees. There were over 20, and of these, very few appeared to actually be working. Our minds collectively blown, we went and got some French fries and rode some rides. We got our text when we were at the front of the line for a ride, so we rode the ride and went on over. It actually only took about 75 minutes for our table to be ready, which was far less time than the "way more than two hours" projected by the girl taking names. When we arrived, we were seated immediately in our own private "corner" of the restaurant (as much as a round restaurant can have corners). There was not a single table seated within two tables of us. We counted, and twenty-five tables were empty. They remained empty the entire time we were there. The entertainment was supposed to be the intermittent dancing by the waitstaff. While we waited for our food, we saw many servers show their skills in fifties dances such as the mashed potato and the hand jive. They danced with the same enthusiasm that one would expect from a kid who was forced to pick an after-school club by his parents and somehow found himself in Hip Hop Dance when he meant to go to Chess. Well, to be fair, there was one girl who seemed born to hand jive, baby, but she was the exception. Our server did come and retrieve my daughter from our table for one dance, from which she returned unenthused and carrying a handful of partially-deflated helium balloons which hovered right at head level at our table, blocking all conversation until we placed them at one of the conveniently empty nearby tables. The real entertainment, however, was provided because our seats were right by the door. Through our window, we watched about seventeen acts of the same silent play, a reenactment of our own experience in line. Nobody walked away smiling. At one point, the manager(?) came and asked how everything was. We took this opportunity to ask what the deal was with the empty tables. According to the nice, apologetic young girl, the restaurant seats 160 people, but the grill only cooks 15 burgers at a time. She told us they had some plans to correct the issue. I can't remember what any of them were, but I do remember that getting another grill was not among the plans. Oh, the food. The food was fine, basically what you would expect from a low-to-mid range sit-down burger joint. The milkshakes were delicious. The burgers were good. I ordered a cheesesteak with a side salad. The cheesesteak arrived without cheese on it and the salad (lettuce, tomato cubes, and a handful of shredded cheddar) arrived with no dressing. Both problems were resolved very quickly and the food tasted fine for what it was. The service was also fine. Overall, though, I would not recommend choosing Johnny Rocket's until they manage to get their act together, or maybe get another grill. read more

We enjoyed our experience at Johnny Rockets, but they are certainly going through growing pains. When we first went to the restaurant, it was pretty empty but we were told there was a 45 minute wait because they kitchen couldn't handle a large amount of orders and was backed up. They do have a system where they send you a text when your table is ready, so at least you will know when to go back to the restaurant. When we came back, there seemed to be some confusion about where they were actually going to seat us as some tables were apparently not "ready" (even though they were all empty and clean). Our server was friendly, but there were some long wait times for simple things. All of our food was correct (and tasty) and we all got a laugh out of the "ketchup smiles" they made. One person in our group had the chicken salad, one a chili dog and two of us burgers. Burgers were tasty and there is a nice variety but the burgers themselves are kind of small for the price that you pay. They have only been open since the end of June, so I truly believe a lot of it is just trying to get the right system and work out kinks. I hope that it will improve with time and training. If you are looking for a place to cool off and relax in the middle of your day at Kennywood, Johnny Rockets is a good option. Just know that it will likely take a considerable amount of time. read more

Not only did my daughter and fiance wait an hour for their food but the employee literally walked around carrying it while looking for their number and by passed it 5 times. This is the Johnny Rockets inside of Kennywood. there is a line that you have to wait in, place your order, and then they give you a number to take to your seat. Someone comes around and drops off your food/drinks, and takes the number. This place is constantly busy, but being one of maybe 2 or 3 inside restaurants that Kennywood has, it's no surprise. The food is very overpriced for what you get, though. I didn't think what we got was worth what we paid. It's also VERY dirty, considering 95% of the staff work behind the counter. tables don't get wiped off in a timely manner, so you are either waiting for a clean table, or cleaning one off yourself. read more

I went here because it was new. It looks nice inside and they have a lot of food to choose from. It's really expensive for what you get. I got my milkshake which was small and really good. I got my burger and fries and the waiter came out and drew a smiley face with ketchup :) My cheeseburger was ok, but I have had way better for the price. We hardly had any service of any kind, for quite a while. Drinks in about 45 minutes (which was water for a few of us). Orders wrong IF you got it at all! Frozen foot longs. Burgers-great taste. Which is why I give 1 star! Bills all confused. Server and manager discussed in length what to do. Comped our bill since it was such a mess, only to try to make the people with us pay for it! Was excited to try Johnny Rockets Kennywood location. Have been to other locations....do yourself a favor, stick with the other locations. Was told 30 minute wait due to kitchen backup, there were probably about 30% of the tables open. Signed in and sat next to hostess stand where I watched 3 groups of people who came in after me, get seated before us. Approached hostess to inquire as to why and she argued with me that she called me 3 times....I was sitting RIGHT there. Got seated and Brittany was our waitress....she was AWESOME and made us feel better about coming in. I noticed many employees talking and standing around....one girl just wiping the same spot on an empty counter for 20 minutes. The manager (Ana?) was more worried about her cell phone than the customers and never checked on anyone....so it's easy to see why the place runs in a disorganized fashion. My burger was cold and I wasn't going to complain because I had already been there for an hour...just wanted to get out....I have friends who have had similar experiences.....so, eat a corn dog until Johnny Rockets Corporate office can retrain this inept staff....I'll spend my $46 elsewhere in the park read more

We were told there is a forty minute wait....looked inside and the place was close to empty....took off like a rocket!!!!!

My party of four put our names on the waiting list and were told it'd be about an hour. Through the windows we could see half of the restaurant's tables were empty, so we assumed the place was understaffed. We came back an hour later and entered the restaurant to find this was not the case. Eight employees were hanging out around the host station, talking to each other. Three appeared to be cooking. Now 2/3 of the tables were empty. We were seated near the front and forgotten. Twice an idle waitress pointed to us while talking to another idle waitress. After ten minutes the "Respect" song started playing on the jukebox and all 20 or so employees started dancing and clapping in a big circle for its entire duration. Finally we got a waiter's attention and he informed the host station herd. A few minutes later an apologetic waitress explained no one was assigned to us and took our order. 25 minutes and another round of "Respect" dancing later, we got our overpriced food. And my order was wrong. If you want my R-E-S-P-E-C-T and my future business, get some better management. read more

I placed a to-go order. I ordered at the cash register near the entrance and then waited at the food counter with my "table number". The employees were not unfriendly, but did their job without smiling or interacting with me There was no "Hello! Welcome to Johnny Rockets" or "How are you enjoying Kennywood?" or "Here's your food, I hope you enjoy it." The food came out quickly in about 5 minutes. The $5.99 black-bean burger was the frozen kind you can get at the store for a buck. Bun and toppings were not distinguished, but it did the job as "amusement park food". The $4.39 side of fries was merely OK, with no taste, but a good portion size. I later doused it with salt and pepper. I downed the food with a $3.79 Pepsi which was half ice. read more

Visited Kennywood for the first time with friends who live in Pittsburgh. Went to Johnny Rockets for lunch. The service was great! The sever recommended a delicious burger, Route 66 highly recommend that now as well. Next time I visit, I will definitely go back! read more

We came in here for a good late night meal. But they were so slow getting us seated and serving food. We waited a total of 1.5 hours to get seated and another 1.5 to get our food. Waiters are so worried about their cellphones and each other. They just gather around and talk. They do not care at all if the food is being served or not. I've been to Johnny Rockets in California, DC, Maryland, and St. Louis. The Kennywood location is, by far, the worst I've ever experienced. It doesn't even deserve the Johnny Rockets name. We went to Johnny Rockets at Kennywood yesterday even though I'd had a pretty rotten experience there last year. All I wanted was their delicious fries and I really hyped the place up to our friends. Unfortunately, no one thought it necessary to tell us that Johnny Rockets wasn't really serving Johnny Rockets' food. As soon as they brought the fries, I knew they weren't the same. In fact, they were a soggy, disgusting mess. The chicken my daughter and our friends got didn't look much better. An employee - perhaps a manager? - came over and asked how we liked our food. I asked if they had changed their fries. He said they did and I told him that the new fries basically ruined Johnny Rockets. He then admitted that one of the employees forgot to order the fries and the chicken several days earlier so they were serving Kennywood's fries and chicken (not nearly as good at JR's and at an inflated price). The employee laughed off my complaints and said, "thanks for your critique." If you want the real Johnny Rockets experience, avoid the Kennywood location. The menu is extremely limited. The prices are double or triple what they are in other locations. And, you don't even know if you're getting real Johnny Rockets food and not some disgusting substitute. I feel bad for those who visited Johnny Rockets for the first time yesterday because they were duped into thinking they were paying for Johnny Rockets food and instead were served park fare. read more
