Friends gave us a gift card to this place so we gave it another chance. It was an entirely difference experience! The service was great and the food was tasty and warm! Cool vibe too. I have friends who love this place, and now I get it.

We came for our anniversary dinner. Wasn't too busy since it was a weekday. Our server was nice. My husband got the Alfredo which comes with huge Parmesan shavings. It was really yummy. And I got the broiled seafood platter and added a side of Brussels sprouts. The fish was a little overcooked. But the scallops and shrimp were amazing. For those wondering what crab fries are they are just fries with old bay seasoning. They were good though! Brussels sprouts were top tier.

I travel to Wilmington for work on a regular basis to stay a few days and have my regular "go to" restaurants out of convenience nearby hotel, and consistent expectations of the food and service. I chose to check out Johnny Luke's after reviewing the menu and was impressed. Compliments to my server STEPHEN C. and the manager REILEY (yes, that spelling is correct on her name) for making my experience a memorable and positive one. From sitting down to the meal served and throughout, Stephen was attentive and friendly. I also appreciated the manager, Reiley, stopping by my table to check on my experience-- as every Restaurant manager should be doing, but you rarely see this happen. I highly recommend the broiled Seafood Platter with the JL signature crab cake, shrimp, scallops, and mahi fish. It was honestly some of the best seafood that I have ever had and I travel throughout the Carolinas. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in the Wilmington area.

We visited this restaurant since it was close to our hotel. They currently have 19 beers on tap, some nice food items, and several cocktails. This is a great place to bring small groups, clients or family. I chose the steak frites, and subbed the fries for brussel sprouts. I also added an iced tea and a local brown ale. Steak frites were a little strange as they were not visually pleasing and the steal itself was a gray color. It tasted ok, but I've had way better. The brussel sprouts were the best part and I didn't eat any of the "house greens". The tea was tea, and the server brought out the wrong tea the 2nd time and gave me sweet, even though I initially ordered unsweetened. It took a while to pay the check as well since we couldn't find our server. The downstairs wasn't that busy but there were a million cars in the parking lot. I'm guessing most customers were seated upstairs, but I never went up there to look. My colleagues meal was okay, but he still found something to complain about.

Date night at Johnny Lukes. He made a reservation, not knowing there were other locations than the rooftop that you see as we drive by. So we ended up at the bar- which was fun! Jalen was our bartender and comic relief! What a nice touch when he asked us our names- let's see if he remembers them! We ordered our usual drinks, him a bottled beer, and me a skinny, spicy margarita! Both were cold and tasty! For dinner, we split the lamb lollipops, which came with a raspberry (I think) horseradish jam- the jam was phenomenal! He ordered the special which was risotto and beef tips- which he thoroughly enjoyed. I got the chopped salad which had cinnamon covered almonds, cucumbers, blue cheese crumble and tomatoes. Neither of of liked the blue cheese crumble, but that was easy to avoid. We ordered cake for dessert, it was a little dry, but the chocolate mousse held it together. And Jalen DID remember our names! We loved our date night!

Got the blackened chicken caesar salad and a side of asparagus to go. The salad was great but the portion of the asparagus for $6 was abysmal.

I must admit I'm a little biased because one of my best friends used to work here. When I went I was alone and they suggested sitting at the bar which I was planning on doing that anyway. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and was told by my friend that they actually are part of the family of a restaurant called Luigi's in Fayetteville where I'm from and the meatballs and spaghetti were the same family menu. I did love the beer selection as there was a large amount of local beers which I am a fan of. The service was amazing as my drink was never empty for very long. The spaghetti and meatballs came and the meatballs were super huge and just amazing. I can't recommend this place enough and have already been back once on a second trip to Wilmington since this trip. You won't be disappointed!

Britney's suggestions for the Pork Shank and the Octopus were right on as well. Can't say enough about how amazing that meal was. Finally a note about the team as a whole: it was obvious that Britney had most of the tables, but every person on tonight pulled together and worked as a team to make sure the food got out hot and on time and no one was sitting too long at any point in their meal! Of note - make a reservation!! We should have - not because it took long to be seated, it didn't. But we know better, reservations help restaurants know how to staff and otherwise prepare. We promise to make a reservation next time - because there will definitely be a next time. Our crew has even already decided what they will order next time! THANK YOU for a phenomenal experience!!

We were there around 2pm and concerned because when we arrived there weren't many cars in the parking lot. What we didn't know was the service we were provided was basically one on one. We ordered the Birria Bao Buns which were fab and while waiting on our food we had a conversation about my love of Charro beans and their preparation and cooking process , It's a lengthy task.. The waiter returned with our food and a sample of the beans at which time I had to have a bowl. Now let's talk about the restaurants vibe. This place is beautiful. It's large and airy . Absolutely breathtaking, even the bathroom was quite appealing to the eye. In my opinion a linen napkin provides so much class to a dining experience and theirs aren't just plain white.,They are a beautiful blue. They really put a lot of thought into the overall decor of their dining experience and it shows. Bravo!

When we've come with friends or larger groups, the service has been much more mediocre. The first time we visited, one of the waitresses was surprisingly rude when I asked about vegetarian options. All she said was "salad," despite there being multiple salads (2 out of the 3) on the menu, including a Caesar with anchovy and a wedge salad with bacon. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in and was much more helpful and respectful. I'm not sure why vegetarian requests are sometimes treated like an inconvenience or unusual concept. I'm married to a huge meat eater and enjoy going to places he likes, but I do wish vegetarian guests were met with a little more patience and understanding. Especially when I am the one paying the bill. The atmosphere is loud and busy, but they are generally accommodating. For larger parties, they require a credit card to hold the reservation and give a limited grace period, with a fee of around $15 per person for no-shows. I understand why restaurants have policies like this, but it felt a little unfair considering we still had to wait around 15-20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. If guests are expected to strictly follow time slots, I think the restaurant should also try to hold themselves to those same standards. It also took close to two hours for our food to come out, and we repeatedly had to ask for smaller things like water or hot sauce. I completely understand that larger parties can take longer, but we were a group of seven, which didn't seem unusually large. Overall, the food and atmosphere keep us coming back, but the consistency in service could definitely be improved.

My mom asked about a specific larger table and the gal rudely said we keep that for 8 tops. Okay fine. No problem. So they out two - two top tables together and sat us there. Very tight, but we made it work. It just made us feel unwelcome. Even better, right after they sat 4 adults with two kids at the table we requested. Luckily, our waitress Jasmine was WONDERFUL and so kind. She helped turn the evening around and made it less awkward. That's why we kept 4 stars instead of 3.
