A spacious restaurant with beautiful river views and top notch food. I was there with family but the waitress Jen was friendly, able to answer all our questions, and the delivery of the order was fast. I had a cup of clam chowder and the short rib shepard's pie. I'm rarely satisfied with clam chowder, needing to add a pat of butter, some salt, or the ratios are off. No such worries here, and I had a pleasant cup of creamy chowder with a hearty mix of clams and bite size potatoes. The main course was so savory. Mashed potato topped with a flavorful beef gravy, covering a juicy layer of tender short rib. Underneath, peas, corn, and carrots that had been cooked by the skillet the whole thing is served in. We really liked the decor of the restaurant. It's a big place with a large bar area and plenty of tables. The food was good. Very fresh. My friend had fried whole belly clams and said they were delicious. I had a chicken Ceasar wrap and the chicken was tender and "real"! We will definitely be back. read more

I always get to the Boat House when I'm back home in Massachusetts for a visit! This trip I've been twice and each time the service was good, food tasty, although my sister said the crab cake poppers were lacking crab, and river view delightful. We had a horrible experience on 5-20-26. Upon arriving the host, which ended up being the General Manager, was involved in a lengthy conversation with two patron about shoes. They took turns walking behind the hostess stand to look at each other's shoes. After a few minutes I went to the side of the conversation and asked if we can get a table for two. The GM replied "we are cleaning tables" and went back to her conversation. Mind you there were numerous open tables in plain view. So we patiently waited and after a couple more minutes we were seated. After a few minutes a server came over and asked if we wanted to start with a beverage other than the water she brought over. We asked for a tap list, she looked puzzled and then realized there wasn't a list at our table. She got us a list and then went to other tables. I think she was overloaded with tables. She came back and took our drink order and we ordered the fried Brussels sprouts appetizer. The drinks came after a little bit of a wait. We ordered entrees. Fish and chips and fried clams. I requested broccoli instead of fries. Several minutes passed then our entrees came out. Neither had Cole slaw and mine had no broccoli or extra tartar sauce. I asked the food runner about the appetizer, he said "the kitchen is a mess right now" and walked away. The server came by, I asked about the appetizer, she was surprised it didn't come out, she asked if we still wanted it. We replied no thanks, just take it off the bill. We asked about the Cole slaw, she said they were out. I asked about the extra tartar sauce, she said she would get it. I asked again for my broccoli. The food runner came back with my side of broccoli, it was the most rotten broccoli I have ever seen. I could not believe the kitchen let that go to a table. At this point I took the broccoli and went the server area where I showed it to our server. The GM happened to walk up and ask what was going on. I showed her the broccoli and asked if she would eat that. She said no! I asked how it made it out of her kitchen. She said she didn't know. She asked me to go into a side room to talk. I explained the experience we had thus far including her being short with us at the hostess stand. The GM asked what she could do. I said how can you expect me to pay for a horrible dining experience. She didn't say anything, just stood there. Not even an apology. I went back to my table and waited a few more minutes. The server came over and placed a $100 gift card on the table and apologized for everything that went wrong. The lousy meals and two beers were comped. I gave her a tip and she asked if I was sure that I wanted her top have it. I explained that she shouldn't suffer financially for poor management and a bad kitchen staff. This was one of the worst set of circumstances I ever experienced in a restaurant. I have been here a few time in past years and it had been great. Management must have changed. IF I go back, it will be for a couple cocktails by the river and not for the low quality, warmed up, frozen food service, rotten food. I recommend not visiting the Boat House until they can get things straightened out. read more

Our waitress was wonderful, our food was good BUT it was so loud inside that it was hard for us to enjoy our date night, we could hardly hear each other. It was hot out the night we went and if we had known about the noise we would've suffered in the heat and sat out there instead. I want to give more stars but the NOISE really killed the night! They definitely need to do something to absorb the noise, it's so bad! read more

Had my doubts about this restaurant since it only received 3.5 stars and some not so good reviews. BUT, so glad we went! It was a very busy Saturday night and the wait was long, so we sat at the bar. Bartender (can't remember his name but he was recently married) was wonderful. Friendly and helpful. Our meals were great. My husband had the steak special and I had the Shrimp cavatelli with ricotta and lobster sauce. Both meals were thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely return. Looks like a nice place to have dinner with a view or stop in at the bar for drinks, apps and the game. Started with the Calamari and Coconut shrimp as appetizers and neither were appetizing. They were overcooked, might've been sitting out for a while and the quality wasn't that great. (May be a one off, will try again next time to confirm) Tried the Maple Glazed Salmon and Mahi Mahi Dinner special and both were excellent. Those meals made up for the miss with the apps. We got the calamari, which was a bit chewy and the Buffalo chicken dip was the best thing I ate! I ordered the scallops over risotto. Scallops were cooked very well but the risotto was over cooked and sticky. The flavor was decent but lacked salt. Bathrooms were clean, parking was easy. Not sure I'd run back to visit. read more

My son-in-law had swordfish that was dry as cardboard, my daughter had $33 scallops that were covered in this corn relish concoction they seem to favor, my granddaughter had Mac & cheese with a side of steak $29... no flavor to the Mac and cheese. It was my grandson's 18th birthday, he got short ribs and enjoyed them. My other grandson got a cheeseburger off the kids menu. I chose to get nothing. In my opinion the menu is strange. Unfortunately, I think I came to this restaurant at a very bad time for the establishment. The service wasn't the best. One of my friends that was with me said they had a seafood allergy and the waiter responded with "are you sure about that?" Didn't really know what to think of the comment but whatever. I had my water refilled once in the entirety of my visit. Our reservation was at 2. We did not get served appetizers until 3:30 and the main course until 3:50. Additionally, they ran out of coconut shrimp, coleslaw, and tortilla chips (so when our buffalo chicken dip came out it only had carrots and celery). When my food specifically finally came out, my "steamed" broccoli was cold and felt like it had been steamed for a minute, so that it wasn't frozen. The pricing was overwhelmingly not correlated with the quality of food. It was decent, at best and the pricing was ridiculous. The only nice thing about the visit was the location and view. It was peaceful and on the water and I was with family that made the 2 and a half hour excursion bearable. read more

Looked for a dog friendly restaurant in the Western MA area and this fit the bill perfectly from the BringFido app. Loved strolling around the docks while we waited for our table to get ready. All of the staff here were so friendly and accommodating for us to find a spot farther away from the woodchips where our puppy with a vacuum mouth tries to eat everything in her sight. They gave her a bowl of water and plenty of compliments about how cute she was. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp appetizer and Lobster Bisque both super tasty. Then for the main course I ate the Cod Florentine, which was very filling and satisfying as well. We had a lovely time dining outside with the view of the boats. All of the employees adhered to the pandemic precautions wearing masks and sanitizing the tables in between patrons. The facility looks nice and new for when we had to go inside to use the bathroom to wash our hands. This is worth stopping by for a bite to eat. read more

Rainy Sunday lunch. Party of 5. Busy, lively atmosphere. No wait for a comfortable table. Service was s-l-o-w at best. Waitress had to be requested three times, which was awkward. We sat for 20 minutes before I asked for a server to take drink orders. Food was ok to good. Seafood- mussels were cooked nicely and flavorful. Salmon sandwich tasted good, but was weirdly sized for the huge piece of bread. So, many bites were just bread. Cream cheese crab cake poppers seemed like they came out of a box. Meh... server remained evasive for the rest of the meal. We won't go back. Too many competitors in the area. read more

Today we visited the Boathouse. We have been a couple of times and have enjoyed it. The outdoor seating is comfortable and clean. The view of the river is also a nice bonus. Our server, Alyssa, was very good. She quickly greeted us, took our drink orders, and returned quickly. She was very polite and professional, very friendly. We were only looking for a quick lunch so we ordered from the sandwich selections. I had the crab cake sandwich, my wife had the turkey wrap, and my son ordered the Slamming Salmon sandwich. They all came with fries (I ordered the sweet potato fries). I will talk about the fries last. The Slamming Salmon came on toasted sliced sourdough. The salmon was blackened and topped with lettuce, guacamole, pickled onions, and cilantro lime aioli. It was a big sandwich! He said it was good. When asked how good, he was non-committal. He "liked" it but didn't feel it was a home run. Just his personal opinion. The turkey wrap was a decent size. It had turkey, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and honey mustard. Pretty standard. When asked if it was good, she said yeah. It was what you would expect in a turkey sandwich. The crab cake sandwich looked promising. It came on a toasted brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, and an Old Bay aioli. I skipped the onions. The crab cake itself was formed into a nice patty that overhung the bun. As for taste, it was good. But it didn't seem to have a lot of crab. There seemed to be more filler than crab. As I said, it was tasty, just not quite what I was expecting. The Old Bay aioli was pretty good though and added a nice lemony kick to cut the the richness. Now the fries were a mixed bag. They were hot. They were crunchy. But they were not well seasoned. It didn't appear that there was much (or any) salt on them. The sweet potato fries fit the same boat. They had a good crisp, were tender in the middle, but did not have seasoning. All in all, it was a decent meal. Everything was well prepared but just lacked a little pizzaz. When we were talking about "How good is your sandwich", we also asked if it was something you would remember and return for. And that's the rub for me. It is very apparent that the kitchen staff is skilled. Everything looked good and was well thought out and prepared. Everything tasted ok. It just lacked a little extra love, a little extra seasoning, a little extra "something-something." We will be back again because this place does have potential and the staff really seem to care about what they do. read more

We caught this place on a Monday for lunch. They were not busy so easy to get a great table overlooking the river. They are taking reservations currently but those tables with a view are first come first serve. The server was great, friendly, mostly prompt. The food was awesome! We had the Tuna Melt and the Reuben - they are large so you might need a to-go box. The wine selection was limited but there's a decent beer list and they have cocktails as well. read more

Bad service, too expensive, and I got food poisoning here. First of all, I've been here before and it was okay. Not fantastic, and over-priced, but okay. If you get a seat on the upper level, you have a nice view of the Connecticut River. However, they designed the building so that there's what I call "pit seating," on the first level, blocked off from any view. That's where I sat this time. Not great but they were busy and I was hungry so whatever. I asked the wait staff if I could get salmon that wasn't blackened and she they could absolutely do that. So I ordered the salmon sandwich, unblackened, and hold the onions. As I was cutting it (yes, the sandwich arrived uncut!), I saw they had given me blackened salmon. Sent it back. When I got my sandwich back, and they had obviously just taken the old salmon off it and put unblackened salmon on it because the sandwich arrived cut. That's when I noticed the onions on it. I sent it back again. It came back a third time, and they had obviously just scraped the onions off, which I could have done, thank you very much. Whatever. I ate it, trying to ignore the gross hint of onion. About 20 minutes after leaving I started feeling sick. Made it home in time to projectile vomit all over my bathroom - the walls, the floor, the mirror. It was like a scene from a slasher film, but with puke instead of blood. I have never been so violently ill out of nowhere. The second I stopped puking, I felt just fine. Most definitely food poisoning. Cost me $25* for the privilege. Never again. *Part of the high price was the shot of Bailey's I ordered for my coffee. It cost $7, wasn't even real Bailey's, and looked watered-down. read more

Had a fantastic time at the Boathouse in South Hadley MA. First off, the staff were all incredibly nice, and our waitress was phenomenal. We started off with some yummy wintery cocktails (januberry sangria and the peach mule), and they were super yummy. There was also live music playing which really added to the ambiance. We then ordered apps: fried Brussels and calamari, both were really good. Our meals were great and had large portions. We finished off with a white chocolate espresso martini (YUM!) and a creme brûlée. Can't wait to go back! read more
