While working today....I experienced the worst bbq Brisket ever....it looked like it was boiled, reheated and tasted spoiled...terrible. Returned it.....On the bright side, the sausage was really good....this fat boy had a really bad experience today....typically small town whole-in-the-walls are great....not today...stay away. On the way to San Antonio we took a little detour to get lunch. We found Johnny's on Yelp and it had pretty good ratings. We decided to give it a try. When we pulled up in front of it, we wondered if we should ?? But this older couple pulled up beside us and we asked them how it was.. He said they had some good catfish and they drove @30 minutes to get there, so it must be good.. we got in line to order but let this older couple go first since we weren't sure what we wanted. Well we both went with the catfish and coleslaw, just like the older guy said. Well the older couple asked us if we wanted to join them, so we did. (Which is unusual for us). They brought our food out in a reasonable time, and the catfish was cooked just right. My husband is very particular about his fish and he liked this catfish really well. . We chatted with the couple and they were so nice.. Troy and Beulah were their names and she has her 90th Birthday coming up soon. I couldn't believe they were still driving and getting on so good. Holy crap, no one has reviewed Johnnys. Good BBQ and daily specials. I actually am giving them a review on their catering. I used them for my parents anniversary party and our wedding reception (actually an after party for the family who didn't get to go with us on a destination wedding.) This is classic hill country Texas BBQ no doubt about it! A nice selection of sides; the pinto beans stood out as particularly good. Brisket and sausage were tender and tasty with the sauce on the side (don't give yourself away as a Yankee and order the sauce on the meat). Very satisfying meal. My only critique might be that brisket could use a little more smoke. But don't get me wrong - it was gooood! If you find yourself in Seguin Texas, count yourself bless. I had Johnny's cater for me. Being that we always have Bar B Q I thought I'd try something different. I got beef tips and noodles mashed potatoes green beans and a roll and Tea to drink. I had only 75 people to serve. The crew did an amazing job. Had all the set up there (Jalapeños, onions, butter and utensils) ALSO when the hour was up the lady in charge was kind enough to put the leftovers in to go boxes and then in pans to go. I can not thank them enough. The price was well worth it ... and the service was way over what I expected from a mom and pop place. I will defiantly be using them for the future. read more

I've never had the barbecue here. I come for their fried catfish. Having lived in Louisiana for several years, I know what good fried catfish is and Johnny's barbecue rates right up there with some of the best catfish from Louisiana. I've also had the grilled chicken salad which is just right for a lunch portion and mighty taste I might add... So if you're in Seguin and you're looking for great fried catfish, even if its not on the Friday all you can eat menu, stop by and enjoy some great fried catfish or if you're on a health kick have a grilled chicken salad. read more

Great food. If you are someone who prefers a small town atmosphere where everyone knows everyone else - I guess, except perhaps you in this case, ha ha, you will love the atmosphere as much as I did. In my experience it is a great place to go have lunch they have great daily specials but BBQ is not!!! Last and first time I got a chopped brisket there it was disgusting and sent it back and got a hamburger which was good. They have a huge menu from Fried Fish, Hamburgers, Enchiladas...etc ....so Go to Johnny's just leabe the BBQ to the pros. read more

Only gave this one star since app would not allow NO star. This was the worst BBQ we have ever eaten. The brisket and chicken were cold and dry. When we questioned the freshness and temperature we were told that they must not have microwaved it long enough. She offered to replace it so we said fine make it to go. What we got was the same cold piece of dry chicken and brisket was from fridge so we could heat at home. It was obviously not freshly cooked brisket off the barbecue. This meal was not worth the $27 we spent. read more

I tried this place after hearing many people say it was good. Went there had a pretty nice lady help me up front explained the menu and helped me choose some good options. I had a Bbq plate due to the name johnnys bbq I had to try the BBQ! I got the plate to my table and the food was barely warm, the brisket while having decent flavor was the thinnest cut of meat I've ever seen. The sides were nothing great, got the Mac and cheese and the potato salad and green beans. The Mac and cheese along with the green beans were cold. I was a bit confused that I was eating at the same place that many people recommended to me, needless to say I'll never go back. Maybe it is good and I just happened to go on a bad day, but if they can't stay consistent then it's not good in my book. read more

Its all about the catfish!! I inhale their catfish, and I'm a picky eater when it comes to fish. The breading is perfect, the fish is always light and flakey and the home made tarter sauce is scrumptious. A must to eat and on Friday's its all you can eat catfish..hell yea!! read more

I have eaten there once before and was not impressed with my BBQ Sandwich........and tried it once again, this time going for Baked Potato loaded with Chopped beef. I was expecting something like at Fushaks Bar B Que out of San Marcos.....when I got home, my potato was wrapped in foil dry, included with pouch of sour cream, bacon bits, chopped beef and cheese all packed into plastic containers??? What the heck, I wanted it SERVED UP. Even after I loaded it up and added Ranch Dressing to moisten it, it was an embarrassment to be a Texas Style Baked Potato when most places load them up properly. I will stick to driving to San Marcos from now on. Hugely disappointed. read more

ok so in my travels me and a friend stopped to eat here. first of all the name is deceiving this is a diner not a bbq joint sorry but baked meat with bbq sauce is not bbq. place was crowded but most food i saw was diner food fried fish burgers and such the star for us was the pie it was awsome. our advice skipp the meal and go for the pie. read more

Love Johnny's BBQ. Eat there weekly or more for 5+ years. BBQ sandwiches, fried catfish, and really good variety of seasoned vegetables to start. We often take home chocolate and pecan pies. Very good food at affordable prices. Count the trucks outside at lunch and you'll have your first clue that this is where lots of locals go. read more
