We did the 10 am tour of the oyster farm and then had lunch under the tent. My wife loved her lobster roll and I had blackened tuna which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed 3 of their freshly harvested oysters which were excellent. I enjoyed one of the local draft beers. The waitress was excellent and eating right after the tour made parking easy (valet only) and we beat the crowd. One of the best meals, definitely the best oyster, I've ever had! The stuffed lobster was a standout favorite as well. This restaurant is charming, all outdoor, and the food is incredible. It is ALWAYS BUSY so get a reservation if they have any. There is a first come first serve bar and Adirondack area, but I wouldn't bank on it. It's my understanding that it was originally a traditional restaurant but there was a fire and it's still under construction, making what they do have on the smaller side and the restrooms being portable trailers (that are very well kept). read more

I must say first that our group of 10 on a family beach trip booked at Matunuck oyster bar with an understanding that the restaurant is operating at a handicap, given the fire and its current situation. That said, its apparent cult following, given the long waitlist, has resulted in either laziness or a misguided belief that people will never stop coming. Either way, last Wednesday was our last night dining at MOB. To start with a few highlights. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive. The wine list had some delicious and price approachable options (although they were out of their special wine of the day). The rest. The oysters, farmed on site, were good but not great. Small and not as flavorful as other local options. I ordered the "steak frites." The steak was a horrifying presentation of grizzled beef that reminded me of the 96er that John candy was served in the Great Outdoors. The "frites" were frozen and every bit of what you would get at a diner at 2am. The hunking slab of steak that would turn a lifelong lover of beef into a vegetarian--no Demi glacé, no garnish, nothing appealing. I forgot abut the side of "chef" vegetables (that I was upcharged for) that came steamed, cold, lonely and unseasoned. Another dish at the table was their scallops. Fine. They were fine. And were served with white rice that also, was completely unseasoned. Highlight. The stuffed lobster tail. A few at the table ordered that and enjoyed it. But who doesn't love buttered bread? Sad summary, the MOB is the most overrated bar I've been to in a long time. read more

We celebrated my daughter's birthday and this was her restaurant of choice. The tent is so pretty and looks amazing at night with the lights. The setting is so nice for a special occasion. They do offer valet parking. The oysters and calamari were good but not great. My daughter loved her lobster roll and I absolute loved my pesto pasta with scallops. My son enjoyed the spaghetti and clam sauce and my husband had the chowder and fish/chips. The birthday girl had the flourless chocolate cake which was a perfect ending to our meal. Despite a fire and the venue closing temporarily, the Matunuck Oyster Bar has reopened under a marquee in the site of its former valet parking lot. And it's superb still. The marquee has sides that can be closed in inclement weather and is attractively decorated inside. Seating for several hundred comfortably fit without feeling crowded. Food is outstanding fresh and delicious, particularly locally harvested oysters. Service teams are polite, informed and efficient. We actually bought dinner in addition to lunch to enjoy later. Have been an OG fan- and I'm here to support them as they rebuild. We made a reservation weeks in advance and waited 45 minutes to be sat. Once seated, it was clear our server was overwhelmed as it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. Service was non-existent - our orders were cold and incorrect. I can understand their desire to keep things running to help rebuild, but this operation felt like they bit off more than they can chew. This was my extraordinary lunch yesterday at the tent location. Seared sesame tuna salad with a yellow squash tapenade. First visit of the season found the same exceptional service, amazing food, and truly a reasonable cost. We were all a bit shocked my how low the bill was given we also had half a dozen Matunuck oysters and a stuffie. Also a huge shout out to our waitperson. Just a lovely human being. The restaurant (after the devastating fire a few months ago) is open under a large tent across from the original structure. They take reservations, to make it easier to schedule and plan. They have a nice varied menu and some good food and they were happy to split the bill. My blackened salmon salad was not bad. The greens were fresh and crisp. The salmon was a good size piece but the seasoning was a bit too salty for me. The food was good, but not memorable.....I need to ask for no added salt to my food in the future....Maybe not even ask for a blackeneded version but just a plain grill version. Fabulous lunch from beginning to end. The Oyster Duo included my 2 favorite from the pre-fire menu. This was our first time in over a year. We have been to Atelier 3 times since returning from FL, as I had been hesitant about under the tent as I have mobility issues - but no issues. Atelier is fabulous too. I have never been to the original Matunuck Oyster Bar, so this review has a caveat. However, I heard so much hype about this place that I knew I had to go when the reopening happened! Showed up around 6 on a weekday without a reservation and was pleasantly surprised to get a table! The vibes were exactly what you want at a coastal oyster bar--relaxed but still lively. The reopening is a fully outdoor space, it's covered and strung with beautiful lights all around. There's plenty of room, and is situated right on the water, so you're guaranteed a beautiful spot. I didn't personally try the oysters, but my friends gave them a big thumbs-up, so I'll have to go for it next time. Cocktails were a standout: beautiful presentation, great flavor, and a solid pour. The grilled octopus was also really tasty--tender and flavorful. Good pasta as well. Service was friendly, but food did take a little longer to come out, which makes sense since they run a small kitchen after the fire. I've heard some say the quality here is a notch below the original location, but honestly everything I tried hit the spot. Bonus points for the clean bathrooms--always a win in my book. Overall, a great spot for seafood and cocktails with a coastal vibe. Just make a reservation if you're coming on a weekend! So happy to see Matunuck back in action! We had reservations for the weekend after the fire, so we were devastated that we weren't going to be able to enjoy a meal at such an iconic Rhode Island spot. I'm glad that al fresco dining is an option now, especially in the warm summer months! The oysters were light and delicious, but the favorite of the day was the octopus appetizer. It was so good! The fish and chips were flaky and buttery! We sat on an upper deck area that overlooked some of the nearby docks. It was nicely shaded and had a great view! Our first time here, and it really lived up to the hype. We stopped by on a whim after a beach day--though I wouldn't recommend that. This place gets busy, so making a reservation ahead of time is definitely the way to go. The setup (across the street from the original) is really well done. The tent has views of the boats, fresh air, and a great lively vibe. Every table was full, and between the salty air, the sound of people chatting, and the buzz of a busy restaurant, it felt like summer. We got lucky with a couple seats at the shucking bar. There was a bit of a wait, which was expected. We had our wine and oysters out first. They don't have an oyster special, but they're worth the price ($2.75ea)--super fresh and from their own farm. As for our meals : The kids' chicken fingers and fries were solid--crispy fries and juicy chicken. The Caesar salad was flavorful, with toasted bread and an anchovy on top. The clam linguini was my favorite--plenty of clams and an incredible garlic wine sauce. The salmon was cooked just right and topped with a sweet chili sauce, paired with crunchy snow peas. Our server was seriously hustling but still managed to take care of everyone around her with ease and kindness. Another great meal at Matunck Oyster Bar. Had the pleasure of dining in the " Tent" for the first time since their unfortunate fire . Actually unbeknownst to me it was their last weekend at the tent before they close for the winter. Though the dining area is smaller, they still served great food. I have to give the entire staff credit for providing great service under the challenging circumstances especially at this time of year. I was there to celebrate my sister's birthday along with my other siblings. I ordered the special which was the halibut in a lemon butter sauce with bok choy and black rice. It was excellent. Came to Matunuck after my graduation. Food here is always delicious and never disappoints! Service was a bit slow because of how busy it was so just be patient with the servers. Atmosphere was loud but not complaining about it (love the liveliness of everything)! Love the vibes of the restaurant and the natural light that comes through and the beautiful view of water. Let's begin by stating that this uber popular restaurant in South Kingston suffered a major fire and most of the restaurant is missing. Recently a good friend and I stop by to see if they were back open yet. We were surprised by a giant tent with a wooden floor, two bars and a kitchen, all erected in in use in place of the old restaurant.. The menu was abbreviated because of the lack of space to prepare the old menu. However, everything that we tasted was not only good, but it also was out and at the table in a relatively short period of time. We elected to sit at one of the bars for lunch and that was probably the last two seats that were left available at a little bit after 12:30 PM. The restaurant was full as it could be by 1 PM and there was no shortage of staff running around and Service seem to be going along pretty well. The only thing that perhaps is lacking is a better set of directions for parking and someone to explain the rules of parking a boat nearby at their docs cause that sure is fun to visit the restaurant via boat. I sampled an order of stuffy's, which were just simply amazing and I also had a dozen little Neck clams on the half shell. Each clam was sweet briny and tasted like it had just been shocked which it indeed had. My friend elected to try the fried oysters. He had originally hoped to have fried whole belly clams however they were not being offered on this menu. The oysters were plump, sweet and full of flavor, and I would rate them as the best fried oysters that I've ever tried. All in all the new temporary oyster house isn't the old one, but it's not that far off. Please give it a try. read more

Great ambience, lovely view. 3 stars because of food which was very bland. We had two clams with linguini both with a very small portion of pasta and tons of broth. We had to ask for bread to soak it up. Pesto pasta with salmon was just also bland. Asked for more pesto sauce hoping it would help but didn't. Stopped by after the Matunuck Oyster Farm tour, what a great way to start your morning! I sat at the bar next to the pier and it was just gorgeous. I had the oyster sampler, clam chowder and the calamari. It was perfect. The staff was friendly and advised me to try the oyster sampler over the dozen matunuck oyster which I really appreciated since it wasn't my favorite of the four I tried. I am impressed at how Matunuck Oyster bar has handled their business after the fire at their restaurant on May 20th. The al fresco dining across the street in the previous parking lot is a lot better than expected! Although there is plenty of seating under the large white tent, I was given one of the two person tables on the "rooftop" of the bar area with a reservation (recommended). It was cool to see they setup a shucking station, plate and silverware station and full service bar under the tent as well. It seems like they are doing the cooking via their food truck, which is large but certainly not enough to service the area so they have some additional tents as well in the back. For a drink I got a Bloody Mary. It was not what you typically expect, it must be that they squeezed tomato juice fresh themselves. I tasted the liquor more than the juice. For food we got some oysters and calamari - the calamari came first and was phenomenal, however we had to remind the waitress about the oysters as they never came. And for an entree I had the scallops, which were cooked to perfection and had a nice touch of the seasoning on them. But it took a while to get the food with only a food truck churning out orders. Overall it was a fun experience and I'm glad that Matunuck OB is back on their feet! The waitress said that they will begin tearing the old restaurant down and rebuild a new building that will hopefully open next summer. Can't wait! read more

Matunick Oyster bar never let's you down. Everytime my wife and I go here, I usually try something different, their specials are always great and they have a decent selection as far as variety goes. My wife always orders the same dish, Blackened Ahi Tuna and this time, I decided I would, too. I got tired of asking for a bite of hers and saying "dang.. I wish I got that too!". While it was delicious, it wasn't actually as good as it typically is. The dish was different than other times. There was significantly less sause around the dish and instead of having creamy mashed potatoes they were more of a rustic smashed potato. The roasted pepper didn't seem as plentiful as the last time I had this dish but the little golden raisin accents were still as I remembered. Now, I have to give credit where it's due, it was a great portion. Nice thick chunks of tuna that had no gristly or veiny sections. The blackened portions were flavorful, and the potatoes, while not as good as the creamy version they've used before, were filling and overall solid. Admittedly this version of the dish felt significantly healthier as the potatoes didn't seem to be or feel like they were loaded with butter. Aside from the main, the bourbon scallops I got were delicious, they were very small and essentially a bite each, but tasty and tender nonetheless. Along with the scallops, I had a house salad which was simple, fresh, and delicious. Didn't get to take a photo of that but I loved the watermelon radish that was used- such a visual enhancement to a plain ol' salad. We did have to wait 15 or so minutes in the bar area after checking in with our reservation, so plan for that. I've never been here when it wasn't packed. If you don't have a reservation, you will not get in so plan ahead! Overall, I enjoyed it. We got to sit upstairs which is quite a bit more quiet, although, not as nice of an ambiance as down stairs. I recommend everyone who loves seafood come here. One thing is for sure, they place food quality above all else. read more

Service was excellent. We were seated right away , waitress was very attentive but not a stalker . Chowder wasn't super thick like Captain Parker's but it was very creamy and not watery . It also had a great flavor and tons of clams. I also liked that they used red potatoes with the skin on. Reminded me of my dad's chowder. The Stuffie was made exactly the way I like it, with a bread stuffing and a crunchy exterior but moist and not too wet on the inside. It had a nice little kick and a decent amount of clams .
