My friend and I had a little girls' day and were really craving oysters, so we decided to head to Matunuck Oyster Bar. We started with the oyster trio and they were so good that we ended up ordering another dozen! I got the poke bowl and she had the lobster pizza. We both loved our meals and agreed everything was delicious. The service was great, the food was amazing, and it ended up being the perfect day. Can't wait to come back!!!!

    Loved all the little touches.

One of the best meals, definitely the best oyster, I've ever had! The stuffed lobster was a standout favorite as well. This restaurant is charming, all outdoor, and the food is incredible. It is ALWAYS BUSY so get a reservation if they have any. There is a first come first serve bar and Adirondack area, but I wouldn't bank on it. It's my understanding that it was originally a traditional restaurant but there was a fire and it's still under construction, making what they do have on the smaller side and the restrooms being portable trailers (that are very well kept).

Guess I ordered the wrong dish :( Ordered the Fish n chips , nothing special . Everyone else was a home run Shrimp w pasta and the Salmon dish were very good , the service was impecable! And the ambiance inside the tent was phenomenal! Will give it another try .

We celebrated my daughter's birthday and this was her restaurant of choice. The tent is so pretty and looks amazing at night with the lights. The setting is so nice for a special occasion. They do offer valet parking. The oysters and calamari were good but not great. My daughter loved her lobster roll and I absolute loved my pesto pasta with scallops. My son enjoyed the spaghetti and clam sauce and my husband had the chowder and fish/chips. The birthday girl had the flourless chocolate cake which was a perfect ending to our meal. Service was good and the restaurant was very busy but food came out quickly.

Oysters were fresh and delicious. Beet salad with add on lobster salad was equally good. Complimentary desert - because it was a special day - was totally unexpected and a very kind touch. Our server was attentive and professional without being overbearing. Even though it's a tent while the restaurant is being rebuilt, the atmosphere was welcoming and nice.

Despite a fire and the venue closing temporarily, the Matunuck Oyster Bar has reopened under a marquee in the site of its former valet parking lot. And it's superb still. The marquee has sides that can be closed in inclement weather and is attractively decorated inside. Seating for several hundred comfortably fit without feeling crowded. Food is outstanding fresh and delicious, particularly locally harvested oysters. Service teams are polite, informed and efficient. We actually bought dinner in addition to lunch to enjoy later. If you're visiting Boston or Rhode Island - this is must visit!

This was my extraordinary lunch yesterday at the tent location. Seared sesame tuna salad with a yellow squash tapenade. First visit of the season found the same exceptional service, amazing food, and truly a reasonable cost. We were all a bit shocked my how low the bill was given we also had half a dozen Matunuck oysters and a stuffie. Also a huge shout out to our waitperson. Just a lovely human being. Looking forward to more time their in the future.

The restaurant (after the devastating fire a few months ago) is open under a large tent across from the original structure. They take reservations, to make it easier to schedule and plan. They have a nice varied menu and some good food and they were happy to split the bill. My blackened salmon salad was not bad. The greens were fresh and crisp. The salmon was a good size piece but the seasoning was a bit too salty for me. The food was good, but not memorable.....I need to ask for no added salt to my food in the future....Maybe not even ask for a blackeneded version but just a plain grill version. The fresh oysters were good and cold fresh. The fish and chips was not bad, but nothing outstanding. The fries were not very crispy.

We celebrated my husband's birthday. Our server Nicole was so attentive and friendly. She made sure to make my husband feel so special on his day! The tent was beautifully decorated and the food was fresh and delicious as always. We can't wait to visit the new building when it's complete.

I have never been to the original Matunuck Oyster Bar, so this review has a caveat. However, I heard so much hype about this place that I knew I had to go when the reopening happened! Showed up around 6 on a weekday without a reservation and was pleasantly surprised to get a table! The vibes were exactly what you want at a coastal oyster bar--relaxed but still lively. The reopening is a fully outdoor space, it's covered and strung with beautiful lights all around. There's plenty of room, and is situated right on the water, so you're guaranteed a beautiful spot. I didn't personally try the oysters, but my friends gave them a big thumbs-up, so I'll have to go for it next time. Cocktails were a standout: beautiful presentation, great flavor, and a solid pour. The grilled octopus was also really tasty--tender and flavorful. Good pasta as well. Service was friendly, but food did take a little longer to come out, which makes sense since they run a small kitchen after the fire. I've heard some say the quality here is a notch below the original location, but honestly everything I tried hit the spot. Bonus points for the clean bathrooms--always a win in my book. Overall, a great spot for seafood and cocktails with a coastal vibe. Just make a reservation if you're coming on a weekend! They still have valet parking available by the original location.

So happy to see Matunuck back in action! We had reservations for the weekend after the fire, so we were devastated that we weren't going to be able to enjoy a meal at such an iconic Rhode Island spot. I'm glad that al fresco dining is an option now, especially in the warm summer months! The oysters were light and delicious, but the favorite of the day was the octopus appetizer. It was so good! The fish and chips were flaky and buttery! We sat on an upper deck area that overlooked some of the nearby docks. It was nicely shaded and had a great view! We got to walk through the cute tent with more tables too! We will definitely be back! Glad to see they are in recovery mode!

Our first time here, and it really lived up to the hype. We stopped by on a whim after a beach day--though I wouldn't recommend that. This place gets busy, so making a reservation ahead of time is definitely the way to go. The setup (across the street from the original) is really well done. The tent has views of the boats, fresh air, and a great lively vibe. Every table was full, and between the salty air, the sound of people chatting, and the buzz of a busy restaurant, it felt like summer. We got lucky with a couple seats at the shucking bar. There was a bit of a wait, which was expected. We had our wine and oysters out first. They don't have an oyster special, but they're worth the price ($2.75ea)--super fresh and from their own farm. As for our meals : The kids' chicken fingers and fries were solid--crispy fries and juicy chicken. The Caesar salad was flavorful, with toasted bread and an anchovy on top. The clam linguini was my favorite--plenty of clams and an incredible garlic wine sauce. The salmon was cooked just right and topped with a sweet chili sauce, paired with crunchy snow peas. Our server was seriously hustling but still managed to take care of everyone around her with ease and kindness. I'm already dreaming about that clam linguini--I just hope I get to come back sooner rather than later.

Another great meal at Matunck Oyster Bar. Had the pleasure of dining in the " Tent" for the first time since their unfortunate fire . Actually unbeknownst to me it was their last weekend at the tent before they close for the winter. Though the dining area is smaller, they still served great food. I have to give the entire staff credit for providing great service under the challenging circumstances especially at this time of year. I was there to celebrate my sister's birthday along with my other siblings. I ordered the special which was the halibut in a lemon butter sauce with bok choy and black rice. It was excellent. The fish tender and moist. Also enjoyed oysters as an appetizer. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Thank you again for a wonderful meal and looking forward to your re-opening in your new locations . One of the best seafood restaurants in the state.

Ask the Community - Matunuck Oyster Bar

Do they have heated outdoor dining?

they have a covered outdoor area with heaters, wintertime it is like an enclosed tent area with windows and heaters.

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes! Dogs are allowed in the rooftop area and in the patio. I visited today and spotted 3 pups. The waitress confirmed they are allowed in the outdoor areas.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes! But I'd recommend doing so far in advance.

Does Matunuck Oyster Bar offer Buck A Shuck?

I believe they have a buck a shuck and drink special Mon - Thurs from 4 to 6pm.

    Is it dog friendly?

    Not that I've seen

    Do you allow dogs?

I don't believe so, it's a little too tight in there for the furry members of families

    They have kids menu?

Yes they do. My daughter loves their kids fish fingers. They also have a grilled cheese and a couple more children's items.

Any idea if there's outdoor seating where dogs are allowed? Thanks!

No not that I know of.

Does anyone know which days/hours they have buck a shuck?

    Monday- Thursday 4-6 pm

    Can dogs come?

I'm not 100% certain, but lean towards NO. Don't recall ever seeing even guide dogs there. The dining areas are rather close-quartersed, and not a good fit for furry friends.

Can you wear beach attire here?

I would say it's a mix of people wearing nice casual clothing and some people in beach cover ups.

There is ample parking around the restaurant, which is located in a plaza. We asked for a table rather than a booth & were accommodated. I ordered a glass of Chateau Ste. We literally had to point it out on the menu so she could copy it to her order pad. The wine pour was generous. We were served a complimentary loaf of bread warm from the oven with an olive oil dip. Delicious! For our mains, I ordered the broiled sea scallops ($26), one of their nightly specials. I chose rice as one of my sides & asked if they could steam some broccoli for the other, which they did. My friend ordered the Garlic Parmesan Mushroom Chicken ($20) with angel hair pasta. Both were large servings & very good. We ordered a piece of their chocolate cake to share for dessert, which the restaurant generously comped as it was my friend's birthday. The entire bill came to just under $72 before tip. Unfortunately, there is a 3.5% upcharge if you use a credit card, a practice I truly dislike.

We drove up to the building and there really is nothing special about it, very few windows and some over grown trees in the parking lot. I didn't have high hopes. When entering into the restaurant the appearance of the bar and dining area was actually decent. Wood floors, wooden tables and a nice atmosphere at the bar. There was a bit of a cleaning supply/bar smell when you first walk in. Again I wasn't expecting much. The kids ordered a small Caesar salad and pasta with butter as their main dish. My husband and I both ordered the marinated grilled chicken with vegetables and potato. A fresh hot loaf of bread with butter was placed on the table right away. It was definitely out of the oven hot and delicious. The kids devoured most of it and we ordered a second one. The waitress, Grace was very attentive and ensured we had everything we needed for the table. I have to say the service was excellent as expressed on other reviews. Definitely a plus with kids! Our kids devoured the Caesar salad. It had fresh lettuce, shredded cheese, croutons and well mixed in dressing. They loved it! When our main dishes arrived, it looked promising, two pieces of nicely grilled chicken on the dish. When I tasted it, I was impressed! It was delicious! Perfectly grilled, not rubbery, and very tasty. The meal came with a side sauce of our liking. I chose the lemon butter on recommendation of the waitress. Perfectly paired! The kids pasta and butter was buccatini and was nice and hot, with a side of potato chip fries. Very good and very unique. They ate it all! Overall, ChopHouse Grille exceeded my expectations. While it isn't on the same level as a special occasion restaurant like the Coast Guard House, it offers solid food, excellent service, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. We never felt out of place dining with our kids, and the staff made the experience easy and enjoyable. I would definitely return to try one of their steaks next time.
