Bravo, Johnny. Bravo. I never used to be a fan of doughnuts. What I mean by that is that I have never had a craving for them. I would never go out of my way to buy doughnuts and would only have them if somebody else brought them, they were readily available, and if they were free. It all changed 2 years ago when I started my current job. We have this company culture where, every Friday after payday, somebody would be selected to bring treats (donuts, fruits, croissants, etc.) for everybody within finance. My coworker who lives in Orinda ended up bringing a mixed box filled with raised, old fashioned, bars, custard filleds, and doughnut holes for everybody. Welp, if I'm signed up for this, I might as well have one. The old fashioned spoke to me. It was delicious. It was the perfect amount of syrupy sweet that I liked in my sweets. Ever since then, I looked forward to doughnut day and seeing the pink box with the 'Johnny's Donuts' logo whenever my coworkers that live around there buy them. Curse you Johnny. I picked up an order through the Too Good to Go app and oh my...I just found our new go to spot for donuts. We recently moved to the area and we've been underwhelmed with the selection of donut shops near to us. It's tradition for us to pick up these sweet treats and enjoy them in shop, monthly. This is it. It's a little father than we're used to going but the donuts are legit. I tried the chocolate cake donut and it was crispy, chocolatey, and had the right amount of frosting. The frosting was light and not too sweet yet satisfying. The kids enjoyed their yeast donuts in chocolate, glazed, and strawberry. Service is friendly and there is a good variety of flavors and kinds of donuts. We can't wait to return. As a side note, Johnny's is especially generous through the Too Good to Go app, give it a shot to try more flavors. I'm embarrassed to say how much I've gone since my first visit a couple months ago. You can't beat the family owned donut shops, and Johnny's is one of the best! I always get either the maple bar or the crueler, both are super delicious. Always recommend going early because the line can get pretty long, but is worth it! read more

These are the best doughnuts in the Bay! They are so fresh and soft. I go every weekend and get the chocolate glaze doughnuts as they are my favorite. The original and maple glaze are also good. This place is a local institution. I had not been here in person since high school, but a colleague at work had brought us donuts for a meeting and I recalled how good this place was. The donuts were so liked that for another upcoming meeting, I offered to go to Johnny's and was greeted with excitement. Haha. Got there around 7 on a Friday morning. The place is simple. A few booths and a glass case with donuts. Line quickly formed behind me because the woman in front of me was buying 3 dozen and then some. When it was my turn, I said I was going to get 2 dozen and the donut shop woman asked if I wanted to choose or if I wanted her to mix it up. I chose for her to mix it up in the interest of time. Asked if they had any blueberry cake donuts and she said "we don't make those any more. We haven't made them in 25 years." I think my heart broke a little. Partly because those were the yummiest. And partly because of how long ago they stopped making them. Has it been that many years?! That's what I used to get when I came to this place in high school. They were delicious. Sigh. I'm pretty sure this place is cash only. My order of two dozen donuts plus a dozen donut holes came to $29.00. When I brought these to the office, the donuts got a thumbs up. Many commented on how good the donuts were. Johnny's does something special with their glaze. Not sure what. But it makes the donuts rise above the others. That and they are so fresh. I will be back. I happened to walk by. I stopped just to look and I was about to walk out when the lady working there stopped everything she was doing to greet me. We live in Utah but vacationed in Napa valley and my husband insisted we HAD to get donuts here before heading back home. He got some of the apple fritters and maple old fashioned cake donuts a YEAR ago but still raves about them. I'm not a big donut person but I ate 4 in about 3 minutes haha they were amazing! I am such a huge fan of this doughnut shop! The doughnuts are scrumptious and the customer service I receive from the woman working the front counter is always so wonderful. She is always super friendly and is so great with the children I nanny for. She makes them feel so welcome and always gives them an extra doughnut hole with their sprinkled doughnut.
