New lug nut versus one that has been stripped
Kait T.

Honestly, I came here for a long time, but I feel like the quality and service has gone down. Maybe I've caught them on bad days, but the newer (in comparison to a few years ago) staff are not very friendly. I brought my car in for an oil change/tire rotation. Within a few days, I was driving home from a late night concert and unfortunately got a flat tire. I went to go change it and learned that my lug nut was completely stripped/re-threaded. I needed additional tools outside of what I had to remove my flat tire, at 1 AM. I've changed my tire multiple times. I've given myself a tire rotation. This should not have happened. I called and they asked me to bring my car in so they could physically understand what I was talking about. This appointment didn't go through, on my end. I'm not sure how they would've handled it. Since then, I have gotten a new car, and I have not considered coming back to John's for my maintenance. As well, when I brought my car in, it was about 120,000 miles, they told me that I needed to replace my serpentine belt. But I have an invoice showing that I literally just replaced it with them within the year. And after inspecting my own car, my belt was in great condition.

First visit to John's Auto Care and will undoubtedly return. I was looking for auto maintenance that was trustworthy, better priced than the dealer and more respectful of my time. I found all three so far. I received a mail coupon for $45 for a full synthetic oil change for my hybrid, which included a tire rotation for no additional charge. A good deal! I made an appointment for a little over a week in advance, I was greeted and logged in promptly and my car was in the bay 5 minutes later. I was promised an hour and it was done in 58 minutes. I waited in the small (2 chairs) but comfortable and clean office area. Staff was friendly (and to everyone that called on the phone while I was there). I hope my car doesn't need anything more than routine maintenance but I know where I will go for that as well as more major repairs.

Had a minor accident and needed body work done. Service was an estimate at first then proceeded with work.

You mean they didn't add unnecessary BS to my work I had them do?!?! That's F'n unbelievable. What a great experience to have a shop that doesn't try to price gouge you at every turn. No unnecessary add ons. Just honest work at an honest price. Thanks so much for an amazing experience. You guys are my go to from here on out.

I am going to start by saying that I have used Scotty's multiple times in the past twenty years and…read moremostly I have received 5 star service (most notably when my son had a Saturn that had a check engine light and they tried to fix it and when they could not (through no fault of their own) they refunded me all my money and sent me to the dealer. I found them to be very honest and fair pricing (not the cheapest, but quality work). What has prompted me to write this review today is the experience I had with Justin on the phone a couple of days ago. My husband and I recently purchased a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. While looking through the owner's manual we noticed that this car specifically recommends spark plug replacement at 40,000 miles. We just hit that and and not wanting to void our warranty we called to arrange a spark plug replacement. To note, I could have done this myself, but again I don't want to give Hyundai any reason to say the engine failed due to improper maintenance. When I called to inquire about pricing, Justin immediately told me I don't need to change them this early. He then proceeded to tell me that Hyundai just recommends this to get people to spend more money. He told me he used to work for them and it isn't the spark plugs that is the problem with their engines but rather a rod. Look, I appreciate someone trying to save me money, but I also believe that when a car is still under warranty manufacturer recommendations should be followed. I probably would not have written this review except I saw Mary K's review and have to agree that Justin seems to have some kind of bias against Hyundai. I know their GDI engines were not great, but this is a newer model and it has a turbo engine and I was just trying to do what was right for the car. I ended up making the appointment with another trusted mechanic.

DO NOT GO HERE - DISHONEST, INCOMPETENT, AND DISRESPECTFUL…read more My son, who is active-duty Army, purchased a truck that ended up needing transmission work. He brought it to AAMCO, where they rebuilt the transmission. Shortly after, the truck began bucking, throwing codes, and running poorly again. When my son was home on leave, his father took the truck back to AAMCO under their warranty. What followed was FOUR MONTHS of being ignored, put off, and given zero answers. Phone calls went unanswered, explanations were nonexistent, and nothing was resolved. When my son finally came home again for Christmas, he physically went into the shop because that was the only way to get any response at all. At that point, they suddenly claimed it needed another part and charged him $1,000, assuring him the problem was "finally fixed." He paid, took the truck, and left. Less than 20 minutes later, the check engine light came back on. My son is stationed in Alaska and had already purchased another vehicle. He needed this truck repaired properly so he could sell it while he was home. AAMCO knew he was leaving the very next day. I genuinely believe they did the bare minimum to temporarily clear the light, sent him out the door, and hoped he'd be gone before the problem reappeared--which it did almost immediately. To make matters worse, the truck was returned absolutely filthy, and the paint was damaged while in their care. Now my son is forced to return to his base with: * A truck that is still broken * A check engine light on * Damaged paint * And no time left to hold them accountable in person It feels very much like they took advantage of the fact that he is in the military, knowing his service obligations would limit his ability to keep pushing back. We will be reporting this to the BBB and are exploring further action. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the runaround. Do NOT trust AAMCO with your vehicle.
