Warning: Lengthy review! I don't often write reviews, but I have a lot to share about Duncan's Automotive in Roseville, CA, and especially the manager, Dave Cruz. My immediate family and I have had six cars serviced by Duncan's over 14 years. Dave has extensive experience and knowledge. His crew of mechanics are also top-notch. All are skilled, professional, and courteous. Over time, we've had regular maintenance, minor repairs, and even more involved repair work done. The work is always high quality, pricing is competitive and fair, and their customer service is stellar. Estimates we've received have, where relevant, been broken down into what needs to be done right away versus what can safely wait a bit. No high pressure sales; just honest assessment to allow your best decision-making. (This has been especially helpful to me, being on a fixed budget.) Back in the early days when I was new to Duncan's, I'd had an oil change at a quick and low-cost service center. Once my car & keys were brought around to me, I was presented with a list of unexected work my car was reported to need. I was warned of "imminent risk of mechanical failure" and was quoted the associated repair costs. Because the experience seemed high pressure AND high priced, I consulted with Dave at Duncan's. They reinspected my car for those recommended services. Not only did I learn that the work was no where near imminent, at the rate I drive, it would be quite some time before the work would even be recommended. AND, the cost to have the work done was significantly less than I'd been quoted. (Duncan's did eventually do the work many miles later and their cost remained unchanged.) Over time, Dave has advised on auto-related instances not directly involving his shop, such as purchasing a new/used car or when it may be time to trade an old car rather than sinking more into inevitable, mounting, and costly repairs. On another matter, my military son and I were coached for the 8 years that I stored and minimally operated his beloved little 1997 BMW sports car as he was relocated stateside and overseas five times! Duncan's performed all necessary services. On one occasion a few years back, a rodent had gotten into my garage and ate quite a bit of the BMW's wiring! I was prepared to be shocked at repair costs; instead, I was shocked, in a good way, at their fair pricing. In the end, my son was elated at the overall quality of care of his car. (The car is now located with him at his latest duty station and he's still searching for a mechanic of Dave's caliber to take over the maintenance.) Those early and ongoing experiences have established Duncan's as our "go to" for all things maintenance and repair. When you find the best, of course you keep going back! The folks at Duncan's Automotive on Sunrise are fantastic! They are very knowledgeable and care deeply about giving the customer excellent service at a reasonable price. This has been every family member's experience for the past 14 years of being in the area. Last year, their staff went above and beyond all expectations to locate what turned out to be a search for the holy grail of a computer module for a 26 yr old car. They knew the car was like a family member to my parents and explored many possible solutions over many, many months to get the otherwise in perfect condition car back in service. Sadly, nothing worked out and it became a charity donation. I highly recommend them for all automotive services they provide. I've been bringing my vehicles here for many years and have always had a great experience. My mom actually brought my very first car here when I was a teenager, and now I still trust them with my current vehicle. They've replaced my radiator, clock spring, and handled other minor repairs over the years, and I've never been disappointed. Their customer service is always friendly, honest, and professional. **Cannot say enough about this repair shop's service and performance.** These guys are professional, courteous, friendly, efficient, and fair. I brought my Acura in for SMOG check & oil change (very competitive pricing) with a multi-point inspection. The inspection revealed totally worn out shocks & struts, and significant tire tread wear. They recommended new struts and gave me a very reasonable quote which they would honor at a future date if I decided to come back. They also (very kindly) inspected a noise and vibration under the engine compartment. They found the splash guard was missing several clips that secured the guard and caused a rattle and loud vibration noise while driving. They removed the damaged piece that was making the noise. I did return several weeks later to have all four struts replaced for a very reasonable price and a fast appointment. Thank you & kudos to the manager, **Dave** and the service team that did a great job on both appointments. We'll be back. read more

It was nothing less than Terrible. I have been using Duncan's for years with our fleet vehicles, but they have slowly become less and less reliable and less trustworthy. Recently they charged us $1,700 for the second time in 18 months to fix the AC on our Tahoe. The following month it broke again, and they wanted another $6K no warranty. The dealer took it and fixed it for $2,600 with a warranty. Duncan's has not responded to our attempt to get answers about it. We will be moving on. read more

I can't comment on other reviews but they were excellent replacing my blown engine and radiator with a new "crate" motor. I shopped around other mechanics and their prices were inline with the others. Sure, it was expensive but no more than other places. They even shopped alternative engine replacement options but recommended the least expensive solution as the most reasonable fix. It took a little longer than originally quoted but only because I chose to have a few additional things done and had to wait for parts. They were pleasant and responsive and kept me informed in a timely manner. I'm comfortable recommending them to friends! read more

Go somewhere else. This place couldn't fix an alternator til the 3rd one failed. Charged 4 hours for an alternator. Their parts are cheap trash and overpriced. They also break bolts and don't say anything or fix them before the vehicle owner notices, still won't fix once it has left the shop. Expensive now, the service has gone downhill over the last year. Poorly diagnosed each time the vehicle was towed to them. Go to a dealership to save time/money. read more

I went in today to see what's wrong with my car. They told me they would call me when they had the dionostic of my car, since they didn't call me I had to call them but they wouldn't tell me what was wrong. I back to the autoshop to ask but they told me I had to call the store, that didn't make sense since I called but they said they couldn't give me Infomation, at the end they didn't tell me what was wrong. I had heard good things about this auto shop but I didn't receive any updates of my car here. read more

Change in ownership/management. I was a satisfied customer for 20 years. Trusted them. Last two visits (oil change/tire rotation) were horrible. Broke the oil plug. 2 hour wait with an appointment. Dramatic change in attitude and customer service. Really sad. read more

If you're looking for a shop to rip you off this is the shop for you! We brought in my sons car for an ac issue. The year before duncans recharged the system. What they found during the inspection was leaking o-rings and schrader valves. I insisted on the pointing out exactly where the leaks are. The front counter person was directed by assistant manager for her to show us the issues. (Not a mechanic) She could not prove that they were leaking. In fact they didn't even return the caps that go on the valves. The estimate they gave was almost $1000. After doing research I replaced the parts that cost $40 from the dealership. It took me 15 minutes to do. I had it recharged at another shop. After all was said and done I called them back to explain the situation and let them know that they are dishonest and thieves. The owner's daughter gave us a refund. Only because they got caught. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

I've been here twice and my experiences were pretty bad in my opinion. The first time was for a diagnostic test and that was $135 with a coupon and they were not able to figure out what was wrong. I took it to Made in America Made in Japan and they were able to fix the sensor that was the issue on the spot. The second time was for an oil change and they also plugged a nail hole in one of my tires. That costed $110. In my opinion, the service is average and they're charging premium prices. I needed to find a new mechanic for my beloved car. To me, she is special and wonderful and beautiful and expensive to repair. Along these lines, I understand the need to find a good mechanic that is reliable and highly skilled. I stopped into Duncan's for some routine maintenance and found staff with exceptional knowledge, experience, and training. As a recent transplant from San Francisco, I am comfortable that I have found the best place to service my vehicles from now on. I was treated with respect, my answers and requests were taken seriously (I hate when someone believes they know my car better than I do), and the work was done on time at the quoted price! Overpriced and proud about it ! never have I ever experienced a worse time dealing with this business than any automotive shop I've ever been to. not only do they overcharged on thier labor fees !$175 for a inspection like cmon anywhere else would've charged less ! Only because it's convenient for those who are passing by sunrise blvd towrds Roseville but other than that nothing ! they have no knowledge of what highway Robbery is or means which they fit that category very well! please avoid that Cruz fellow his a spiteful man who seems to hate is job and makes his customers suffer for it ! You can just stop right here... The biggest thing that can be said about Duncan's is that they are the Master's of their craft. Seldom do you meet folks like the guys at Duncan's that not only care about the small things, but are willing to think out of the box. Actually they don't believe in a box, they are willing to go the extra mile, provide a Disney "wow" moment, then make you feel like you are part of a family. Most notably, Manager Charlie Grace is Brilliant. In fact, there isn't a word to describe his expertise. I've never had a customer service experience as good as my visit today. I was distraught trying to find the best Brake and Lamp Shop within 50 miles. I was completely disregarded by other inspection facilities, every place felt like I was in line at the DMV. One simple phone call and a four hour visit later and I'm on my way, happy as a clam. What a bunch of hard working folks. To top it off, I got to have a great conversation with the owner John Duncan himself. What a great guy. I was immediately smiling and in great spirits, I had no choice, within seconds John's warm presence silences any reservations and hesitations. He not only cares about his customer relationship, but cares about people as humans. I really felt welcomed and appreciated. The rest of the guys in the shop are hard working folks. I don't have a single thing to nitpick. Finally, I write this review not only as a customer, but as a local competitor. As an Operations Manager at a Euro Car sales and service shop, my analysis and standards are set extremely high. I would not hesitate in any way to send them referrals. It was a weird vibe since I walked through the door. I ignored it thinking it may just be me. They called me with what was wrong and told me how much a part would cost. I called my brother who is a mechanic and a diesel mechanic and was the head mechanic for helicopters in the marines in charge of millions of dollars of gov property. He lives on the east coast or else I would have him do it. He said there is no way they should be charging you that much. It's 2 hours of labor. They are trying to charge you 9 hours extra in labor. He advised me to call the dealership and ask how much the part was and look up the part online as well. I did both. I called back Duncan's and asked them how much the part would cost and they lied to me. I understand up-charging a bit to make money. Everyone's gotta eat, I get that. But more than doubling the cost of the part and then adding way more hours of labor is dishonest and robbery. I didn't tell them that I knew they were lying I just said I would be in to pick up the car. I went and they talked to me like I was an idiot. It took a lot for me not to tell them I knew how dishonest they were and to shove it. But it just was not worth it. There are a lot of honest hard working mechanics that help people and these guys are not them. They should not be in AAA 's list of approved vendors. Beware. read more

My original review was not a happy review. As a woman it is hard to find a place where I feel comfortable getting my car looked at. My original post explained that I'd been ignored by the male employee in the front, and there was little to no communication. Although the job got done, the customer experience was not good. The owner called me and explained that he'd read my review and reviewed the tapes and he had a conversation with the employee in question. It sounds like there was a lot going on, the guy was getting slammed, and was just having a bad day. The owner was super friendly and professional. I feel so much better now having talked to the him, and I am definitely going to give the place a second chance. Although the woman working there wasn't the one helping me, I heard her talking to another customer and I thought she was amazing. She was so friendly and welcoming, and I give her major props for making it a great environment for the customers. read more

2 days ago I helped my cousin get his car over to Duncan's to get it fixed because it had a coolant leak the elbow was cracked and in the rain it was a bit of a pain to do taking the tensioner and alternator off. Guy quoted 3 hours of labor and the elbow was $60. After all was said and done he tells us the car is smoking out the exhaust (wasn't doing that prior to bringing it in) now my cousin is sitting on the side of the 80 and telling me he has coolant residue in his oil... this shop is scummy and I do not recommend bringing your vehicle in unless you want more problems with it caused by them read more

A mechanic you can trust. I went in with a quote from the dealer for $1400. Even with knowing what I expected to pay, Duncans still charged me for what I needed not what is suggested. They did take a full look at my car to make sure everything looked good and didn't need work. They saved me over $700 in unneeded maintenance and $400 for breaks the dealer said I needed when Duncan measured them at 12mm. On top of all that, when I went to drop off my car, my tyre light came on and sounded like I had a nail stuck in there; they took care of that for free! I was very disappointed in Duncans automotive. I had the front brakes and rotors done on my 2006 Honda Civic about three months ago. My brakes started to make noise again which they told me my back rotors and brakes would have to be done soon so I did them myself. Saving me about $460. They still made noise so I took it to Duncans automotive for them to inspect it and they called me back saying it wasn't my job on the back brakes it was the caliper on the front brake was frozen shut and it was gonna cost me 600 or did cost me $682 for a new rotor and caliper and brake pads which they just did the rotor and brake pads three months ago. They said they don't usually check the calipers because they don't go out. Well obviously they do and now front brakes have cost me almost $1300 at Duncans automotive. I think they should've replaced the caliper for free and the rotor being that they had my car and just did the work on the front brakes three months ago. I will never go to this establishment again I believe that was crooked on their part. I just think it's another way of making more money by not checking the calipers when they did the brakes in the first place. I don't recommend them. I originally thought they were a good business but recently I think they are just crooked OK. I would like to retract my earlier post. I've always been somebody that goes right to the source if I have an issue and I've always expected somebody to come right to me if they have an issue. Basically as a God-fearing man I would like to repent for my earlier post I shot my mouth off before I should have. I got down to pick up my car and I talk to the owner John along with Greg at the desk and they made things right. Like I said I should've called them directly instead of going to yelp. I apologize to the business for what I said into any of you out there that I've done business at this establishment because obviously what I said was wrong and I was mistaken. Since finding Duncan's Automotive, I've felt more comfortable with maintenance and repairs on my older vehicle, for both quality (warranty is 1yr more than Honda dealership) AND price. Just recently, I had filled out a survey after an inspection on my A/C. I had scored a little low on the "Accuracy of Estimate" from my misunderstanding on how to score it, and received a courtesy call from Jess to fix the issue. It was extremely nice to have a call back after trying to fix the situation (there was nothing to fix and they charged substantially less than the original quote). only place ill take my vehicles to be worked on. honest people up front that want your car to be back on the road too. I had some issues with my truck, anyone I talked to about the issue looked at me like I was insane before I could finish explaining. the good people over here at Duncans not only listened to me but they went out of there way to figure out what needed to be done at the dealer (it was warrantied). they diiddnt even fix the truck they just helped me figure out what the dealer needed to do. if thats not honesty I dont know what is. hands down best place to take you vehicle in the Roseville area. read more

I was referred to See Dave at Duncan's by a good friend. I had taken my 2017 Camry to a shop in CH who were quick to say that I needed a new Catalytic converter. My gut feeling told me that I needed a second opinion. My initial conversation with Dave over the phone was extremely reassuring. He was hesitant to say if that was the case for sure. So I took it to Duncan's for another diagnostic and Dave and team did not find anything that suggested that I needed to replace the Cat as they call it:). Dave had a lot of information for me to educate me a bit about my car. The team was professional and the shop was very tidy. I recommend this shop for an honest opinion! Way to go Dave! read more

Paid 150 for diagnostic because I did not pass smog. All I got was your catalytic converter is bad. No other diagnostic tests were done. Then told if we replaced it it still might not pass smog. These guys are old school salesman. I got played on this one. I usually do all my own work and have trusted mechanics who help me but I'm just moved to this area and now I know where I definitely shouldn't take my vehicle. If your reading this make sure you get in writing what your expectations are on the contract. These guys are good at what they do so be wise because they are good at getting over on you and you won't even know it read more

Needed major emergency repair of our Y2004 GMC Yukon over the holiday weekend. Dave and their incredible staff were able to source the parts, schedule the repair, and complete the work within a day and half, including the Saturday before we had to get home.
