No hard sear. No crisp edge. No beefy crust. Dry patty. Weak seasoning. Odd flaky texture. The bun broke apart in layers, the beef broke with it and every bite got drier as it went. No juice. I asked the hubby if he knew a good Philly place to eat and he said of course Johns. Was he wrong, i was not happy with the food. For forty dollars i could of gone some where else and had a delicious meal. I had to use my stroller as a high chair. The meat had no flavor and it had too much lettuce. The kids had a ham and cheese and of course they had no choice but to eat it. I had better chili, like Wendy's. The Philly sandwiches were good but we we we're put off by captain pirate goatee wannabe and his poor customer service skills. Treating your customers poorly is a great way to get them not to return. Served with your choice of a generous big bowl of "homemade" soup or a bowl overflowing with a dinner salad. And cornbread or roll. My husband had half of a broiled chicken. Choice of mashed potatoes & vegetables or onion rings WITH fries. Soup or salad and cornbread or dinner roll. PLUS choice of flour or corn tortillas. He thought the meal was terrific! The STAR of the night though was the CHICKEN & RICE SOUP Homemade and SUPERB. Probably the best bowl of soup I've had in a restaurant in at least 15-20 years. You could tell it was homemade without even tasting it, by the giveaways - the presence of bay leaves and the fact that the cut up vegetables in the soup were not all uniform in sizes. Definitely the hallmark of a homemade soup. I was so taken by the extraordinary taste of the soup; I asked who made it and if he was there. Juan came by our table where I had an opportunity to tell him just how fabulous the soup was. He has to be a Master of soup making because he has the magical touch. Friends, you SIMPLY MUST go and try Juanito's soup. Isaiah told us they list the days of the week and which soup is offered, on their website which is different than the one linked on Yelp. I told him that I love soup and I would be driving there in the winter, just to get Juanito's soup. It's magical Yes, it IS that good. Fantastic Cafe is an excellent good old-fashioned diner. Just like those that were around in Lakewood & surrounding areas when I grew up here locally. Clean, welcoming atmosphere serving generous sizes reasonably priced. The fact that the staff appears happy to be there, and takes pride in what they offer is very apparent and something which is sadly missing from many places today. Our waitstaff mentioned it was her third day on the job, so when one of my friends asked about the special, she had to double-check with another staff member. Other than that, service was great and the food came out quick. I ordered the Santa Fe Skillet with a side of sourdough toast. It was a generous amount of scrambled eggs with cheese along with green chilies and pico de gallo. Layered underneath were country-style potatoes which had a nice crispy and tender bite. The avocado and sour cream on top created that melt in your mouth kinda feeling. I also ordered a cup of mocha which was a nice pick-me-up.

The decor is homey, and it has a nice local vibe. The deli menu offers many classic Italian sandwiches, pastas, and more! Cold beverages and chips are next to the cashier. I ordered the classic Torpedo. Although there were no size options, it was a huge sandwich loaded with fresh ingredients, savory meats, and a quality baguette. I also grabbed one of the La Dolce Vita drinks, and it made for a perfect, filling lunch. The serving sizes are generous, so sharing is an option. There is a market in the next room with many items from Italy, plenty to take home, and make a great meal. From dry ingredients and sauces to cold fresh pastas, pizza dough, snacks, olive oils, and more! Most you won't find in mainstream grocery stores. At the deli counter, meats and cheeses are offered, and prices per pound are posted just above the counter. First time visiting, and it was an excellent experience. The staff was friendly, made my sandwich with care, and kindly brought it to where I was sitting. The dining area is spacious inside, and a couple of tables on the sidewalk just outside the door. They have a pepperoni pizza for $19.99. I ended up getting the Italian torpedo sub. Sub was ok and service was quick and friendly. I liked that they had a little market attached. Unfortunately I dont plan on going back to this place. Besides the prices being high, a tip is asked for when you pay with card. I tip for table service, not to go orders. Seeing my receipt later, I see an "admin fee" that was added. Upon seeing other reviews.. they try to get you with a dine in fee. I hate stupid surprise fees. I recommend going to Nicks instead on main st if you want a sandwich.

The menu is simple and straightforward with five burger choices and a couple of non-burger choices (chicken sandwich and grilled cheese). I also decided on tots and a chocolate milkshake. The helpful, personable woman at the counter handed me a cup for water, anticipating the next words out of my mouth. I went to the soda machine to get water then took a seat at a booth; my order was soon brought to my table. The ingredients for the burger were all fresh. It was messy but delicious, with the bun barely up to the task of keeping everything together. The tots were "tossed in duck fat" and tasted excellent, and the serving was plentiful. The milkshake was pretty good but, on my extensive milkshake rating scale, would be average. This is a comfort burger place, nothing gourmet, just a simple, flavorful burger joint, and in that regard they succeed.

The slices were a good size. Thin crust that gives you the New York fold and crunch when you bite into it. But the cheese and toppings remain soft. Got the Big Apple and Hawaiian. Both very good. Will be the new go-to pizza joint out here.
