John's has been a fixture on Devoe for over 60 years. Current owner, Nick, son of John, has been here for 43 years. Their pizza has been consistently delicious over the decades. Not thin thin, but also not doughy. For me (and most of my friends) just right. No flop (no blue pill needed), not oily. Just the right amount of char on the undercarriage. I got there right after opening today. Had two slices; one cheese, one veggie (my doctor will be happy. He keeps telling me to eat more greens). Sooooo goooood. They never disappoint. First time I had a hot just out of the oven slice that wasn't oily at all! I was wondering what all the hype was about & now I get it. What I received was ok but definitely was not what I ordered. I ordered fresh mozzarella pizza, I received a regular pizza. I was so disappointed and it's too cold for me to go back out there when I didn't want to go out there in the first place. I'll never order from Slice again. Next time I'll call. This is the second time there has been a problem with slice. I actually thought I was ordering from their website I guess they use slice for on line orders. I also ordered ziti with meatballs. Started getting pizza at Johns because all Yonkers pizza places have gone down hill in spades. We decided what the heck , if this place is no good don't go back. Boy was Johns a surprise! We ordered medium pie to go well done with half anchovies , half mushrooms. EXCELLENT ! Very generous with toppings and they understand well done! Good local pizzeria. The slices are good - while not the best I've ever had and not the best in Yonkers as some other reviewers will claim, you can do a a lot worse as well. But everyone's opinions are different, as is mine. However, overall the slices are good. The selection behind the glass is pretty decent. I had 2 plain slices and a chicken Marsala. Everything was good. The drink selection is a little weak, but there was enough options to choose from. There was no menu to take inside and only limited choices on the overhead. This is one of those places that don't take debit/credit, so you need to have cash. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Who I think was the owner was very friendly. There's a decent amount of seating inside. There's metered parking and side streets and you can usually find a spot, though when the church is in session or one of the 2 schools is having a function, it's a lot more difficult. I have eaten here many times and the food was great. This past weekend I ordered 2 chix heros, one eggplant pie and 2 cheese pies. The hero's and eggplant pie were great, However the cheese pies were reheated pies and had the consistency of cardboard. When I order pizza, I expect them to be made fresh. Their tomato and fresh mozzarella slice (the big fresh slices of tomato and large fresh/thick slices of mozzarella) pizza is the best pizza I've ever had in the entire world!!! Sometimes they are out of it but when they aren't, make sure you get A WHOLE PIE and bring it home as is (kinda doughy) then heat it up a little bit in the oven at home and you will be in heaven. For me, sauce makes or breaks the pie. The distribution as well as the flavor of the sauce was exactly on point. The pepperoni was one of the best I've had. The staff was warm in greeting and just gave out a real family restaurant vibe. To top it off, they tied up the box in the traditional ny red and white string. Respect to John's! my friend told me about johns pizza shop in yonkers and i decided to grab a few cheese slices before heading to white plains and glad i did cause pizza is really good. nothing really fancy about this place and thats how i like it as long as pizza is good , from pizza, calzones, chicken rolls, squares , hot heroes, pasta, patties, etc, it all look good and it taste good as i munched on a few garlic knots for a late snack after watching a really good football game till 1am. my buddy told me to try the silician pie as its a crowd favorite and thats on my list for my next visit. place has been in the area for years and the family run pizza shop has kept the quality the same all these years. its worth the visit if you love good tasty pizza. read more

John's is one of those old school Italian pizza places that you don't see much of anymore. Nicky and the rest of the crew are very friendly and are familiar with pretty much everyone from the neighborhood so they are always hospitable. Some of my favorite meals from them: *Meatball parm- Prob one of the best meatballs I've had. Just the right taste and texture to them. And the sandwich isn't over whelmed with sauce or mozzarella, it's just perfect. *Chicken parm- I heard that they made their own bread crumbs and that's why their chicken tastes so good. Also, Nicky's mother whips up these sandwiches in the back, so nothing beats an maternal figure making sandwiches with love. *White pizza with broccoli- OMG! Just awesome, and the crust is crunchy, just how I like it. *Pepperoni pin wheels- addicting! I'll grab a couple as a side every once and a while. They also offer spinach pin wheels, but it's my least favorite green. Check out this place, it's around the corner from McLean, sort of a hidden gem. read more

The pizza is fine. Don't get me wrong. But it is just OK and this is NY we can do better. I have recently moved into this neighborhood and have tried them all. Bottom line is if I want pizza I have to get into car or onto train and head north to Frank Pepe's or South to Arthur Ave and eat at Zero Otto Nove. My next stop on the pizza trying is Flames (a newer coal oven place on central/yonkers ave that was closed yesterday). Also Louie & Johnnie's on Yonkers Ave just opened a pizza cafe. I grew up and went away to college and have tried many a pizza since then. I've lived in New York all my life and this pizzeria is just your classic perfect NY pizza. Authentic style and great management. John's does it right! I actually love deep dish and Sicilian style, but for a normal NY style John's is one of the best I've ever had.
