They have an outside dining area that does allow dogs which was a plus. Food is decent priced, good selection and delicious. We had breakfast her me before leaving after our visit the day before to Joshua Tree National Park. The only two thing that kept me from giving it a 4 star was the toast is not buttered after it is made (butter your own toast), and there was not a lot of wait staff. Many of the dine in customers before my later arrival had to wait to get their checks and pay, also once you placed your order at counter and your food was brought out to you, no one ever checked on you again. If you are looking for a greasy spoon kind of cafe John's Place is a good choice. I've eaten at several John's Place and they seem to be all owned by the same people. The burgers and sandwiches are good. Give you plenty of food and don't skimp. After every meal I've eaten there I am more than full and have some leftover at times. One thing I always order is their fried mushrooms. Really good. Will be eating at this establishment again. A hidden gem in the area. A busy place on Sunday morning but the short delay was worth it. Staff was friendly and efficient with menus, coffee and water. Was impressed with the memory of our waitress as she took our entire order without writing anything down and not a single mistake when the food was delivered-tasty and hot! Nice Simple place. It was a bit warm and had to ask for milk (1/2&1/2 not avail) for my coffee (other than the coffee mate provided), but the service was perfect, breakfast simple, tasty, and just what we were wanting before getting back on the road. Instead of making it right and refunding the missing part of the order, the lady working just said "my bad, but you still have to pay for it." Good house salad and Greek salad. Ok burger and catfish sandwich. Waitress got order wrong and gave son fries instead of onion rings. When we politely told her of the mistake, she insisted my son pick up his sandwich and transfer it to an empty plate. She then threw the fries in the trash. We then waited another 15 mins for the 4, yes 4, onion rings she brought out. Homemade but horrible. No flavor to the crust and not cooked throughout. Dont bother. I live out here and about 6 months back I went in to find the rudest of people. One imparticular but I dont need to name names. I thought after awhile I would try again well this time I ordered the fish and chips. What a joke 3 tiny pieces of fish and and not enough fries to cover the bottom of a small take out container. When I called I was given every reason from well we were just about to close to the "chef " was trained to build that order. To ...well if you bring it back tomorrow we will need all the food in the container. Honestly I dont leave a string of bad reviews but they more then deserve this one. We didn't try breakfast here, only lunch. First of all, this was a great California burrito. Normal sized burrito, huge portions of fried zucchini (also fantastic!!) and onion rings. We ate our leftovers for days because they were just so good. Knocking down two stars because there is no posted menu and no prices on the menu on their website. We used the one that somebody had posted on here, but the prices at the window were VERY different. As in, twice as expensive different. We would not have paid $15/burrito or $8/side, no matter how good they were. When we asked about it, the lady told us they'd updated prices since then. Receipt had prices that were hand-typed in, so I really think maybe she just pegged us as out of towners and took advantage of it. She closed the window on me because she didn't want to take my order in the drive thru because their phones were not working. Horrible experience! I was at their parking lot on the phone to put in some to-go order but the lady put me on hold for 20 mins. I decided to go in with my 8 pound service dog on a stroller to make an order in person since I have been on hold for a very long time. One server asked me if my dog was a service dog and I said yes so she then told me to go to the cashier and then after standing at the cashier for sometime another lady server asked me again if my dog was a service dog, then I told her yes, but she stated she couldn't take my order because she is not wearing her vest and I offered to show her documents. But she yelled on my face in front of the many customers that she cannot take us in . The audacity! Never had this kind of experience anywhere in LA. I am so sad and very disappointed. I have had problems being able to eat and have lost 45lbs already and don't know why.. My husband suggested trying John's place for breakfast cause he like their burgers. Upon entering there were 2 tables with patrons, who were already eating. Our server was very nice but misunderstood when I asked for a side of home fries. My husband ordered cornbeef hash. The place did get busy. Another server brought our food. I explained that I had ordered a side of potatoes not extra cornbeef. She was polite. I asked for the toast and waited and waited and waited. My plan was to try a little toast and potatoes. After seeing guests completely happy and served. I went and asked if I could get our toast. She said we're busy. I'm busy right now. I said yes but it should have been brought out with his food. " She said again," we are busy. After waiting another 15 minutes we received barely warmed bread. I just decided to pay and leave. I did tell her how rude she had been. I also gave her back the bread. Her response well our toaster does not work right (yet every other table had toasted bread. I asked her to remove the side of potatoes that I never received. The sad part is I was so looking forward to trying to eat something as I wait for more tests to see what is wrong. I shouldn't take it so hard but I allowed her to break my spirit. Now I will have to wait another 24 hours to see if I can try to get something in my system. Not her problem I know We just moved up here and live 1 block away. Just when I think about giving you all another chance you let me down again. Please explain to me how you think cutting a club sandwich with "normal" size bread into four pieces is a good idea? It literally falls apart before you even have an opportunity to take a bite. I recommend cutting It in half like every other restaurant. Im not sure I understand the ratings given. We are in the middle of no where eating at a place with a crap load of options. Everything we've had is GREAT quality and the service is friendly. We tried breakfast and a sandwich. Really tasty. The fried zucchini was amazing. They were fry-size and way easier to eat then the wedge option. The pastrami was tasty and the kiddo loved the pancakes. All in all, for the food and price, this shouldn't be #10 in this area. Stop here and try it. They have deals too! read more
