Food the way a diner should be! If you're up at the crack of dawn (literally the crack of dawn, 5:30am) to watch the sunrise while camping and then need to find some sustenance -johns place opens at 7am. The food was just as it should be, pancakes fluffy, eggs tasty and bacon soft (as I requested it). The coffee was mediocre which was to be expected, but they had WiFi, friendly servers and MORE than enough food for their reasonable prices. read more

This is a simple diner type place but very neat and well-kept inside. It was pretty busy as not too many options to eat upon exiting Joshus Tree National Park, but the 2 ladies did a very good job. The tuna melt and tuna salad plate were very fresh and large portions---half sandwich enough for 1 meal. The fries were very good. read more

So I always order blueberry pancakes in this establishment and I always go to their business rather going to Denny's or ihop - what they literally made me was pancakes and threw blueberries around it And how are blueberry pancakes a weird request? And their policy is to return the food to replace and that's it ?? Don't order the Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich, it's full of gristle and inedible. The beyond burger was burned and the clam chowder was full of sand. I Had a $60 order, the other foods were good. I called and they offered to replace the soup with a salad, didn't care to refund the money for the burger or sandwich. The food here is pretty good. It is diner style. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thid is my thired try because friends rave about this place. I dont get it. It is OK. This trip the restrooms (both ) did not have any paper towels. The urinal was broken and the sewer gasses were bad. The John's Place in Yucca Valley is muvh better. I come from a family of onion ring fanatics - these are some of the best I've had. Homemade and hand breaded...fantastic. Milkshakes are great - hand dipped and thick - come in a large cup, a great deal. I got the avocado burger double meat and it was very tasty. Place is immaculately clean and service was swift and kind. Kat was my server and she was very friendly. Highly recommend this place I will definitely return! I'm sick of this restaurant. The service is awful and they never make the order correctly. My family keeps giving them chances, but this latest trip has been our last. In the restaurant, they're rude and ignore you. They don't refill your drinks unless you go up to the counter and ask. The mashed potatoes are made from old baked potatoes. This would be fine except that when my mom ordered the mashed potatoes, they gave her an OLD mashed up baked potato (not even fresh, people? c'mon). It tasted like rubber. The gravy was clumped and gluey. This past trip we ordered three burgers. One of them was supposed to be well-done and arrived rare. Another was supposed to be an ortega burger and arrived without the ortega (also noteworthy is that my stepfather, who loves his burgers cooked rare, could barely eat his from how "rare"/uncooked it was). When my mom called, they gave her a hard time and were extremely unhelpful about correcting the situation. They don't put their customers first here. I'm disappointed because the John's Place in Yucca Valley was always my favorite place to eat growing up. The one in Twentynine Palms doesn't live up to its counterpart at all. read more

I see lots of bad reviews, so I want to write a good one. I typically order the same breakfast regardless of the restaurant: chicken fried steak and eggs. John's Place never disappoints! They are consistent with the preparation, and it tastes the same every time. The only reason I'm rating a 4 is because they've been out of some items a few times but nothing major. I've also enjoyed lunch and dinner from them. Updated to a 5 based on today's breakfast alone. Geesh! read more

Rip off. They shorted us food that we paid for, which we discovered after getting back home. We called. They refused to refund our money or give us the food we ordered. No one offered an apology. We asked to speak to the manager; and they refused, saying the manager was busy. We asked the manager to call us back when they could and left our number. Never got a call back. Unacceptable. Just came through and ordered two burgers one well done and one medium and was told that the medium rare was in white packaging. Come to.find out when we got home to our separate destinations that that wasn't he case and ended up getting the wrong burgers. Very displeased. read more

This is the sixth or seventh time I have been here. I have figured out the best spot to get good service (or the staff is improving). I ordered a gyro combo, wife ordered a crab omlette. My food was good, hers was excellent. While we were there, something got stuck I their toast maker and caught fire - my wife's toast came out seeming more stale than toasted, guess they were scared of catching something else on fire :V. Had to ask for a refill on my drink. Review might seem a little negative but their service is steadily improving. Came here after dealing with the atrocity that is Andreas off Adobe.. we were bracing for more mistreatment and were hoping for the best as it was my husbands birthday. Everything changed once we entered John's place! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. They immediately attended to us and served us drinks afterwards. I loved the cleanliness of the restaurant and it's modern upgrades, I also enjoyed the openness of the restaurant and being able to see outside while dining. While waiting for our meals I ran to the restroom to wash my hands (the bathrooms always tell a tale of how they upkeep their restaurant) and it was very clean and well stocked. I ordered iced tea and the chorizo and eggs plate with potatoes. I was very happy with the seasoning and the salsa was a great addition. (I can't wait to try the burrito next time) Husband had the John's farmers special, and the only thing he had an issue with was the seasoning in the biscuits and gravy. For the location I'd say John's is worth going to. Especially with how scarce it is to find a good restaurant here with non-racist staff. read more

It was the only place open and we were hungry . Clean place, friendly service and decent food. Not what I would normally choose but given that , it was not bad. Generous portion of bacon with our breakfast orders. I hope they step up the coffee though. I love coffee and theirs was pretty hard to drink. read more

We went to John's Place in 29 Palms for breakfast this morning. There was onlyva single man and a couple already seated with their drinks. After 30 minutes we asked about our meal. The waitress said the computer didn't send the orders to the kitchen. It seems the cook got to pick and chose what to cook, not in the order they came in. People who came in after got their meals and were paying before our meal cane. It took 45 minutes to get our meal!! I live 3.5 miles from John's Place in 29 and will not recommend it nor will I return. read more

We LOVE John's Place!! We come for breakfast and dinner quite often as a family. The zucchini fries are super yummy. I always get their avocado burger, which is mouth watering. I am local to this restaurant and the last few times we've been treated rudely. This time after going in I addressed that three other groups were given menus and drink orders taken before us. When talking to the owner it got to where she was rude then promptly after I sat back down she came with food that she almost threw down on the table. When asked I mentioned something and I was wrong again so she went back and I was served that promptly so I ate half of what was ordered and couldn't eat anymore from how cold it all was and gross it tasted so I left. When my budy paid he was asked a question and asked how it was so he responded honestly she promp stepped in and he was rudely delt with. I as well as others when ever mention one thing about the service or wrong at this place there rudely delt with. I ordered scrambled eggs and a biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was passable as was the gravy, but together the whole was gummy and unappealing. The eggs were thin and tasted like cardboard. At least half a dozen times, I was annoyed by the wait staff who stood behind my table and yelled over my head to people on the other side of the building. I don't like yelling while I eat, but the wait staff seems to be unaccustomed to gentility and etiquette and more accustomed to life in the barn. They are friendly and effusive, but can't they recognize that standing over over someone and yelling past them is rude? The place has all of the ambiance of a Marine mess hall. Had a chance to visit Johns place in Twentynine Palms for breakfast. I was astonished and impressed. First let me say this little hole in the wall cafe is a bright spot in the city, it don't like much from the outside but the restaurant is well decorated with a modern cozy feel. The menu was simple with a nice selection of comfort food all at reasonable prices. I had the breakfast special pancakes eggs and sausage. $5.99 before 12:00. The staff was courteous, helpful and always busy, either cleaning, cooking, serving, taking orders or checking on customers. The food was excellent, the service was great and the prices reasonable what more can you want. I would recommend trying this restaurant if you're in Twentynine Palms to visit or to stay awhile. read more

Rant to John's place 29. I purchased my burger got to my friends house to eat. When the whole thing fell apart it was so sopped in sauce I didn't even want it. I decided to make something at home and call after I've calmed down a bit I did pay good money for that burger, I work in customer service and understand it's frustrating I try to give places and people the benefit of the doubt. I tried a breakfast burrito on my route and really enjoyed it,and decided to eat there next time out. I had breakfast there today and they were friendly, service was great, and the breakfast was good. My toast was a big 10 not burnt ,and I love the butter packets, and they serve you the silverware like at a classie restaurant. I was reall thirsty when I arrived and they brought me a glass of water with ice. I really was impressed with this nice place in the desert. Had to leave work early cause of it. I've complained before once at the store (and was told the manager would be notified.
