First they brought our orders all mixed we were a group of 8 so we sat at two different tables I asked for a separate tab to make it easier but no. At first this man asked for our order, then two girls started bringing our food and placing it at the opposite tables and since we were confused because we didn't order that they would get mad. They would leave the plates at the table let us put butter/sauce etc. and come back and without even asking just grab our plates and tell us that it wasn't ours after all. This place isn't what it used to be. Came in to enjoy a meal with my kids, food left much to be desired. Couldn't find a table to sit at because most were dirty, had to sit all the way in the back by the bathroom. Food was really greasy, not as great as the times I've come with my parents when I was young, and 10x more expensive. All we got was some zucchini fries, French fries, and a chicken quesadilla the bill was about $50. I will say, the service was excellent. The young girl serving us was nice and thoughtful. I've been eating here for years, usually for breakfast although I do remember getting good sandwiches here too. It's popular with both locals and visitors. This last visit, I got a Greek omelette, which had tons of vegetables and was quite good. This came with hash browns, which were nice and crispy but soft and still potatoey on the outside, and biscuits and gravy. All was good. I'm a bit picky about biscuits and gravy because I usually have them homemade when I visit family, so I would characterize these as being good biscuits and gravy for a restaurant. The food takes a while to come out because it's not a fast food restaurant and everything is made to order. But it comes out super hot, always a good sign, and it tastes good. One of the most horrible dining experiences of my life. The food was good but it may have been because we were so desperate for a hot meal after evacuating from unprecedented fire conditions in LA only to deal with power outages and driving around town for hours looking for somewhere open. Once power was restored, there was a small rush which I guess was significant for a small place like this in a small town. Within 2 minutes of arriving, the manager yelled at 4 different guests about table seating arrangements. She was clearly stressed so I let it slide when she yelled at me for simply asking if we could have a seat at an empty table. Ironically the white board in front had a sign that said "welcome, have a seat and we will be with you shortly". We ordered our food and had to wait about 30 minutes to receive it. Fine. We were thankful. Then the power shuts off right before the food arrives. These people aggressively start yelling out that they can only take cash. Luckily we had cash. The table next to us on the other hand did not and figured they could grab cash at the grocery store. 15 minutes later we were all informed we had a time limit to settle our bill even with cash. When the table next to us informed the waitress one of them was going to grab cash, all hell broke loose. The rude female manager was incredibly aggressive. Seemingly accusing them of being shady. Wouldn't let them finish a sentence as they were trying to explain their confusion about the time limit to settle the bill even with cash. It was incredibly frustrating to listen to, and I was extremely tired, but I still couldn't help myself but to intervene to stop the madness. I explained to the waitress that I understood the pressure she was dealing with, but to please also understand the stress that her customers are under and that it's not their fault the power went out after they ordered their food, intending to pay with card. Everyone was apologetic and she walked away. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that when she walked away she must have complained to two male employees that she had been victimized. A true villain she clearly is. The men, one of them being the owner came in hot. Very aggressive. Almost appearing like they came to physically assault or remove the patrons. The younger man was completely unhinged and emotional whining that he had been working since 7 . Boo-hoo. The owner made some homophobic generalizations, and ultimately ripped the plates out from in front of the patrons and kicked them out. The entire interaction made me sick to my stomach Yelp would like to know what could improve. 1. The female manager could use some charm school. 2. Everybody at the establishment could use some basic problem-solving skills like. Zelle, Venmo, Or simply collecting payment upfront when they're having power issues. 3. The behavior of everyone working in the restaurant with the exception of a few of the cooks and busboys reflect a very desperate environment. The owner needs to check himself. NOBODY DESERVES TO BE TREATED THAT WAY. All this over some pancakes and zucchini fries . This place is not worthy of your business. Obviously, I'll never go to this place again. In fact, this place made us reconsider how much we like Joshua tree and the entire area. Sad read more

We visited Yucca Valley for a weekend getaway (we're from San Diego). On the way out of town we hit John's Place for breakfast. Bomb!!! (do people still say that?!! Lol) My boyfriend and I both had the John's Country Breakfast with iced tea (it was hot out)... Delicious! Best breakfast I've had in years, in fact. And at $13 per breakfast, an unbelievable deal. 3eggs, hash browns (he had home fries), ham, bacon, sausage and toast (he had a biscuit & gravy). Totally and completely hit the spot for both of us!
