    Blueberry pancake

Ordered a stack of pancakes asked to add blueberries . Everything was good. Small coffee shop you can order to go or sit inside.

Great value for the price, especially if you booked a pricey Airbnb or simply passing through. I appreciate the diner vibes and pics of old Hollywood. Breakfast is served all day, which is amazing. I ordered the avocado bacon burger, which tasted clean. The zucchini fries were also great (reminds me of Astro Burger in WeHo). The Oreo shake was pure joy in a cup. On another note, the restrooms were exceptionally clean, and the staff was friendly. Will definitely visit again!

Steak lunch? Or dinner came with side salad, about same price as cheesburger combo

Special 95cent coffee with purchase. Family pack might be best bargain. My steak lunch was a good value. Some appetizers and sides $$ a little. Good food. Clean

I'm going to be honest. I have not eaten here in about 3 years. I had several really bad experiences. It was time to give them another chance. I'm glad I did. I'm enjoying a delicious pastrami sandwich. Mariana is an absolute sweet heart. Thank you for the great service and meal.

Terrible food. Terrible service Rude waitress' They don't clean their tables. I politely asked for something to clean the table with and was answered rudely with I'll be right there. She never came. When our food came I asked if I could have something else because my sandwich came with rye bread and I'm allergic to rye. I totally inconvenienced the waitress and I said never mind. I just ended up sharing my husbands food on a very dirty table. My husband was disappointed at the attitude toward patrons and the dirty table, he asked for to go containers. We will not be back to John's. Iam someone who is part of the community and will not be recommending this place to anyone.

We missed our reservation time but decided to try a walk in because it was the whole reason we came into town in the first place. We were greeted by two really nice hosts who assured us there was room for us sooner than later and we were seated with our dog on the patio pretty quickly. They were so nice to us and doubly nice to our dog! We ordered fried eggplant, gazpacho, ceviche, a lamb burger, and got a lamb burger patty for the dog (we're not order food for the dog people but she was going through it too with the Walmart stuff so why not). We added a couple glasses of wine and their beer shandy and finished with a strawberry shortcake. Every bite was perfect but we rated them- Gazpacho, Lamb Burger, Eggplant, Ceviche. The gazpacho was a hit with the perfect amount of fresh/sweet cantaloupe and spicy-ness. This place was well worth the trip from Big Bear. My wife noted that everyone there that helped us legit looked happy to be there. There was also a medical emergency and the staff was so kind and helpful throughout and checked in on all the tables in the area afterwards. It kind of showed that they are invested in the people that visit.

We got really lucky - reservations open a month in advance, and we were headed to Joshua Tree the next day. I thought for sure I wasn't going to get a reservation and needed to think of a Plan B for date night. But I texted anyway, with an apology for it being so last minute, and they responded the day of confirming me for the next day! Yay! When we arrived, we asked for a seat inside, since it was super windy that day, and they were able to seat us within a few minutes. We got the butter lettuce salad (delicious), the socarrat (lots of peas and pea sprouts - this was AMAZING, and great the next day cold!), their version of bruschetta on their crispy thin bread - the bread was absolutely amazing. And we also got the tomato...um, I can't remember what it's called, but it has a base of sliced tomatoes, with hard boiled eggs, celery, and tuna aioli! Super refreshing on a super hot day. We also got a couple non-alcky drinks and left very happy. It was loud inside for sure - or, bustling, if we want to be more euphemistic. Service for us was a bit on the chilly side, but that might just be the night our server was having. There are 2 single-stalled bathrooms, and parking is very easy in the huge lot they have. I think we might circle back to this place after trying other eats around the area. This was a good time.

I bought a home in the desert two years ago and now live here full time. I came in solo on September 10th for a cocktail and a burger to go. I was feeling particularly down around 9/11, being from NYC and having been in the area when it happened, and just wanted to sit somewhere familiar and comfortable for a bit. I ordered a cocktail to stay and a cheeseburger to go, and the bartender immediately said, "The kitchen is busy, I don't think we can do a to-go order." I explained that I'm a local and have ordered food to go here many times and asked him to please check. Eventually he took the order, but the cocktail wasn't good and when I got home, the burger I specifically ordered well done was medium to medium rare. The point of hospitality is to be hospitable. I've been coming here for years, and I'm genuinely confused as to why ordering a burger to go became such a difficult and unwelcoming experience.

Glad we did. Rustic, old west vibe grabs you by the poo poo upon entry. Lots of memorabilia, pics of Pappy himself, license plates from all over, as far away from as Canada!!! Excellent menu (wife got a salad, me the chicken sandwich), and both were delicious! Serving sizes are very large to boot. Friendly staff who make you feel like a regular, cozy country vibes, and comfort food that'll have you questioning whether you really need to hike after breakfast. I came here with my fiancé and stepdaughter, fully expecting a good meal. What I didn't expect was to be personally attacked by the size of the pancakes. These fluffy beauties arrived looking like they were auditioning to become spare tires for my car. They're huge... gloriously huge. Then came the chicken fried steak, blanketed in creamy country gravy with a mountain of crispy country potatoes on the side. If comfort food could give hugs, this plate would've wrapped us in a warm quilt and called us "hon." Parking out front can be a bit like finding a parking space at a Black Friday sale--possible, but don't count on it. Thankfully, there's extra parking in the back, complete with reserved spaces for country music stars. We didn't spot Dolly or Willie, but we left a spot open just in case. And let's not forget the view. Step outside and--boom!--you're greeted by the stunning desert landscape with Joshua Tree National Park practically waving hello. Not a bad backdrop while digesting a pancake the size of a hubcap. Bottom line? Great people, generous portions, delicious comfort food, and enough small-town charm to make you want to linger over one more cup of coffee. We'll definitely be back the next time we're moseying through this neck of the desert. Just maybe... we'll split the pancakes next time. (Who am I kidding? Probably not.)
