I've lived in the area for 17 years. I used to come when it was old school. So when they changed the aesthetics and pricing I stopped coming. 2 weeks ago was the first time I ordered from here in at least 12 years. When I bit into my zucchini fries I tasted what seemed like detergent. I decided to give them another chance and today I chose them over C&S, never again. They got my Togo order wrong...forgetting 3 different items, causing me three round trips. The home fries which they gave me on my third trip look terrible. My 13yr old son tried to eat what looked good but has already managed to spit some out. Also, no apologies from staff. My opinion don't waste your time. read more

Normally I rave about John's Place, but today's order was very underwhelming. Burger patties seemed very thin, the fries were just defrosted in the fryer and I don't know what happened to the fried zucchini, they were very soggy and appeared to be cooked in old oil. We had our first meal of 2022 here and it was just as yummy as we remembered from our last visit. Chorizo breakfast burrito is the way to go. I had the machaga burrito on a previous visit and it was also memorable. Pancakes are fluffy and buttery, so yum. We found this place by chance a couple years ago and went back while my brother was visiting from the east coast. So glad we stopped by for our New Years day breakfast. first we went in and sat down. NO MENU's Suppose to scan a bar code on your Phone. How many have phones that don't scan barcodes? Especially seniors. Second option was to go up to the cashier and look at the TV monitor. When the drinks came they were in cheap through away cups with lids and no straws. They didn't have any. They do a lot of takeouts but to dine in? After we got our food, (which took for ever) the waitress never came back to see how we were doing. As for the food? Cute little diner with lots of burgers to choose from. I had a bacon cheeseburger that was pretty good. We had the chili pastrami fries--oh yum! Very generous portions and good service. Was kind of bummed that didn't have any beer or wine on the menu, but it made our bill much less expensive. This place was really affordable and kid friendly. read more

This is one of those places that gives me joy. There's this certain hamburger taste that's char grilled with special sauce and perfectly cooked steak fees with homemade ranch. You can add bacon. It's really really good. It's probably one of my favorite places here in town. I don't think I've ever said that I didn't want to eat at John's place. It's really good. Memorial Day weekend: I waited 40 minutes for a steaks. I watched the cooks over cook at least one of my steaks. When I discovered that one was well done when I asked for medium, I was told sorry. When I asked for a discount, I was told 10 percent. This was after waiting 40 minutes. I was told every excuse in the book by the owner(busy, my cooks made a mistake etc). Finally the owner, whom I told I was writing a review on Yelp, snatched the steaks out of My hands and told me that I was getting nothing. I think that the owner should be getting after the kitchen, not the customer. I told him too that he should not have a temperature picture when gets order if the cooks do what they want anyway. This place I wants to love I even went twice both times I ordered my signature dish hamburger fried potatoes and the waffle. Just the level of clean like the table chairs etc is below poor. This clean factor is odd because they have a wait staff. The wait staff is friendly and kind but only certain tables get waited on this is odd too. I don't think you get wait staff if you sit outside or something. The food well you can taste the unclean grill and some of the veggies were spoiled. This happened both times but the second time was worse then the first. Also not shown In the photo they burned the omelettes it's very odd this place should be the crown for the local desert fair. I would not willing go back until I heard that that brought clean back. That maybe hard to do because I think it's a family biz like just family. Horrible service. Discrimination and major teenage attitude from employees. Arrived after 4 hours of traveling on 06/08/2022 around 3 p.m. Walked in with my service animal and was advised I could only be served at the window and sit outside in the 100+ degree weather. The two young employees asked if my dog was a service dog which she is. Then they (illegally) asked for proof. Please teach your employees about the law regarding service dogs. Civil Code 54.2 and Section 36.104 of Title 3. I attempted to explain the law to them. They both rolled their eyes and blatantly ignored me. A lady outside overheard me speaking to my daughter about this and she said she works at a restaurant nearby & would never be allowed to ask for proof. She said she was sorry for our experience and gave us nearby tips for food. Had no issue at a nearby restaurant. read more

Been here a few times. The food is tasteful, decent size portions, and the price isn't different than a fast food restaurant. Service is usually prompt, the food is all cooked on a flat top which is viewable, which is always a positive aspect. Restaurant is a diner style with a outdoor space to sit when the weather is nice. Also they have a takeout window from the front of the building, making takeout orders faster when the inside is busy. Overall, I would recommend this business. read more

Loved the food and the service! We ordered the veggie burger, the Ortega and egg burrito, and the avocado omelette with hash browns. The avocado was generous and the hashbrowns were the best I ever had. This is the first time in years that I went out to lunch with my family and all of us actually liked what we ordered lol. The food quality and portions were top notch. Prices are reasonable. The blonde female server working the afternoon shift yesterday was very courteous, professional, and friendly. The tables outside in the patio were far enough apart for safe social distancing. We stopped by on the way to Joshua Tree and didn't expect anything out of the ordinary. Were we surprised! I ordered a veg burger and it wasn't boring and tasteless like the others I've tried-it was fantastic! It was absolutely the best meatless burger I've ever had! From the super fresh onions and tomato to the tasty bun and burger, it was great! And the green salad I ordered separately was also a winner with a big slice of tomato and fresh greens. The others in our group were also very happy with their food, commenting on the generous portions, great flavor, and affordable pricing. This was a hard review to write because I eat here all of the time and do like their food. Unfortunately, they consistently get my order wrong and mislabel their food items on their menu by leaving out important ingredients. Food - Basic diner food with good quality ingredients. Their omelettes all have cheese in them even if they don't explicitly say it on the menu so if you have a food allergy or don't want dairy BEWARE! I think I've only been here twice where they have actually gotten my order right. Most of the time I ask for no cheese and they slap it on anyway. The area is notorious for people who don't pay attention and this isn't the first restaurant to get my order wrong because the cooks don't read the ticket. I love their salads though!
