Whenever I'm in Ft. Collins to visit I pass by Johnson's Corner Truck Stop and they have a variety of eats. I was really looking forward to their cinnamon rolls. I was so disappointed. It was fresh, but so low quality. I think the only thing going for it was the cup of icing they poured on top. Although I didn't like that either. I love yeasty flavorful cinnamon rolls and these were not that. I also had biscuits and gravy. I took a bite in front of my server and was so embarrassed when I gagged!! It tasted like nothing but salt. It was not home made! Pretty sure it came out of a packet. I ended up eating the bottom of one of the biscuits and then I left, Without my leftovers. The coffee was good though.Also the prices were low, which was a plus since I didn't eat the food. I finally tried one of the "world famous" cinnamon rolls today with my husband and 7-yr old and I must admit, I am baffled by all of the rave reviews about them. Maybe I missed something? We found the icing to be sickeningly sweet and overpowered by the imitation almond extract. The roll was also quite dry. I'm not sure what I expected, but a dry roll with basically powdered sugar, milk and fake almond extract was not it. We had maybe 5 bites total before throwing it away. Very disappointed. read more

This is a truck stop that is supposed to have fast service. We arrived at 11:30 AM, ordered at 11:45 AM, and 40 minutes later still did not have our food. We complained to the waitress and asked her to check on our order. She agreed and promptly walked over to another table. We promptly walked out! We been here before, but this experience will take some time to get over before we return.... If we will ever return. read more

The service went from 100 to 1 in just 2 months!!! We have been here over 30 times. It was our family tradition to come here for each birthday or holiday...until today. This is our second visit since the business sold. All the service is new. They are clueless. It took them 20 min to take our order and another 35 min to bring the food. The 2 stars are for the cinnamon roll only. They're great! Everything else is "meh" at best. The waitress was lukewarm, like the food we ate. She wasn't very pleasant but then was syrupy sweet to regular customers. We both had the everything omelet. Everything? Yeah, from a can that is. It isn't hard to make food from scratch. Good food and fair prices. However, we were there on a Thursday night when they have a free slice of pie with a meal of $8.95 or more. Our waitress gave us our pie and then when we went to pay up front, the manager threw a fit that she gave us free pie without purchasing drinks. My husband and I are full time rvers and we have boondocked at johnsons corner many times passing thru co. with never any problems. We were there about a week ago and was in the parking lot with the trucks (like usual) when an employee came out and told us we were gonna have to move to the rv paking which is always full of cars. My hubby told he had been drinking and wasn't moving. she was ok about it but we were outraged. Never has anyone said anything about us being there and we weren't the only ones in rvs in the parking lot. we always buy things in things in the store, so whats the big deal. we wont be going back. read more

Just for fun, we stopped here to try one of their famous cinnamon rolls. We wanted see what the hype was all about. To our pleasant surprise, the cinnamon roll lived up to its reputation. The roll was warm and gooey with just the right amount of glaze topping and it came with a side of warm butter. It was sweet, but then again this is a dessert roll. I've come here a lot, like most residents of northern Colorado we see that big sign as some kind of beacon - a harbor, safe place. Fuel, snacks, lotto, a hot meal 365 days a year. Friendly conversation and legendary cinnamon rolls. I've fallen into a habit over the summer of stopping about 3 times a month & getting a whole chocolate cream pie. Guilty pleasure, self indulgence at the highest level. I knew eventually it would happen, I would walk in all confident only to find NO PIE. Today was that day. Josh checked 3 different cases in the restaurant - nothing. I asked for lemon meringue - zero. Then, out of nowhere he said, I can check one more place - the bakery across the street. Who knew that's where the pie magic happens. He got a colleague to cover the register and off he went, when the double doors opened at the north end of the restaurant a few minutes later Josh appeared all smiles and pie. The last one he said with a sly grin. I couldn't thank him enough. He truly made my day. High Five & a big tip for Josh & going the extra mile. BOOM! read more

Unfortunately many years of good experiences here has come to an end. I recieved the worst service I have ever encountered as well as an extremely rude manager when asking to get a problem with the food addressed. The fish was tainted with some other food or substance. Upon making the manager aware, they were extremely rude. All 4 orders in my party were either incorrectly prepared, cold, hard as a rock, or tainted. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for a late breakfast and a cinnamon roll. We are used to seeing the place packed but it appeared as if we missed the rush. We were immediately seated and the waitress brought our drinks. In the section we were seated in we could hear gospel music coming from the banquet room. When we asked the waitress about the music, she said that on the second Sunday of each month Bluegrass Gospel time was held in the banquet room. The wonderful music, sweet cinnamon roll, and made from scratch biscuits and gravy conspired to take us back in time. It was a truly wonderful experience. When my sister and I walked in, we were not greeted or welcomed. After waiting at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for five minutes, I finally asked the lady at the front desk whom was staring at us the entire time if we could just seat ourselves. She said, "Yes." As we walked to the table of our choosing, we could see nothing but stares (we're Native American, by the way). The waitress did not introduce herself and did not go over the menu items. I had ordered a medium-done steak but received a rare steak. There was nothing but pink on the steak, so I nicely asked the waitress if she can give me a well-done steak, and she did. Hopefully she did not put anything else in it. When she came back with my food, she told us that her shift was over and that another person would be checking on us soon. We waited 30 minutes for someone to show up for a refill on our drinks, but no one showed up. So, we went up to the counter and asked for the ticket since no one gave us our ticket and finally got out of that restaurant. Never again. Worst service in my life so far. read more

Pretty average cinnamon roll. I stopped in after hearing the hype and paid the $3.50 to sample it. I'm a HUGE cinnamon roll fan and this was very average - like something you could buy at King Soopers. If you like lots of icing and sugar, but not cinnamon or butter, then you'll like this "icing bread" recipe. Definitely not an ooey-gooey, soft, savory roll. Mine was stale and dry. There's also a weird lemon icing on top that tastes weird against the cinnamon. Kinda disappointing for a bigtime cinnamon roll fan like myself. Johnson's is also crowded. This lady with 3 kids cut me off in line and the cashier just apologized to me and took the lady first anyway. And then took care of another dude before I finally stepped in to complain. read more

The last 3 visits have had the same problem of slow service (due to short staff?), cold/undercooked food (food safety is a MUST!) and stale-ish rolls/buns. I've been eating here off and on for the last 8 years, and the decline seemed to start in 2013. My wife and I decided to do their Valentines evening special prime rib for two.( prime rib, choice of potato, vegetable medley, dessert) We were there early and seated by 5:30. We ordered but the waitress said they were out of baked potatoes. Really? On a holiday evening special, you are out of baked potatoes at 5:30? Ok, we like mashed potatoes too so we ordered mashed. Dinner came in reasonable time frame and we noticed after a minute or so there was no vegetable, just prime rib and mashed potatoes. I got the waitresses attention after a few minutes and asked if we were not supposed to have a vegetable. She said oh, sorry, we ran out. Can't we have a substitute vegetable? No, sorry, really sorry, and turned and left. I wasn't very happy at this point but was determined to enjoy the evening with my wife so I just let it go. ( why wouldn't she tell us when she delivered the meal ???) We did get our dessert, and it was fine. We also noticed while we were eating, that tables that came in after us were getting vegetables with their dinner. Pretty strange ordeal. Can't imagine running a dinner special and running out of the baked potatoe before you start getting busy. We go to JC fairly frequently and I would sum it up like going to a big box store....Depending on the day and the waitress you get you may have a good experience or a not so good experience. On this day the kitchen obviously had issues and the waitress had no clue how to handle it. They do go through staff often, the help wanted sign is pretty much a main stay. Leadership issues? This place is overrated. Period. People go there because there is nothing else around and they are lured in with the offering of self-proclaimed "world famous cinnamon rolls." I'm "world famous" too. The Pillsbury version out of a can is actually better and that's not saying much. Mine was as hard as a rock and I'm certain that it was at least 8 days old. It improved minimally after some time in the microwave. I set up my laptop to do some work using the "free wifi." Let me give you their definition of "free:" you can connect to the interweb and then you have the option to look at a handful of websites or pay for the "upgraded wifi".... which is the wifi that people in 2015 use in order to work and maintain their employment. I ended up tethering my cell phone to my laptop which really seemed to puzzle people. Did I mention that my omelette (complete with unmelted cheese) took 23 minutes (but who's counting?) to order and 90 seconds to arrive? Sorry people of Johnstown ... At least you have Santiago's, Subway and the motel that offers massages. read more

My great grandmother has been dining at johnsons corner twice a week since 1952.. We always meet her there for lunch despite the food there being almost too disgusting for human consumption. Today we went to meet her for our monthly lunch date ... the waitstaff was terribly rude , took 30 minutes to get us a glass of water ... another 30 minutes to get us food and when the food arrived to our table it was cold as ice . We attempted to eat a few bites , had some great conversations despite the bad dining experience and pay our tab. We walk my 90 year old grandmother out to her car (she parks close so she doesn't have to walk far) and there is a nasty note on her car from a Johnsons corner employee exclaiming how rude and inconsiderate it was she was parked in that area, claiming it is for trucks and trailers only . She has parked there every time for the past 15+ years and never had an issue . There is not one sign posted in that area claiming it's reserved for a certain type of vehicle . My compact car was parked right across from hers.. no nasty note for me though ! I am very dissatisfied with our experience at johnsons corner and will happily take my family elsewhere to dine due to the inconsiderate staff and terrible food . read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I saw the big lit up sign for Johnson's Corner and lit up myself for the "quintessential diner". I read the back page of the menu which was all about there 6 million dollar renovation and how they are historical and iconic. My excitement quickly transformed into utter disappointment. I pride myself on being somewhat of a Chicken Fried Steak connoisseur as I order it at every diner/breakfast joint. THIS WAS THE WORST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IN THE WORLD. The thin, frozen, soggy, cold, disgrace of a piece of meat was too disgusting to serve to my dog let alone eat myself. The thing was unnaturally shaped like a circle and the Luke warm gravy on top was thicker then the "meat". Before I knew I was in the worst diner in America I decided to pay an extra dollar for a "premium" side of Macaroni and cheese. NEVER ORDER THE MACARONI AND CHEESE, not only is it the Walmart Bland Brand but it was obviously microwaved into oblivion and impossible to stomach. The soggy hash browns might as well have been mashed potatoes, although they were the only thing I could stomach but only after drenching them in Chalua. My wife tried to order fried chicken but they were out, then she tried to order the turkey dinner but they were also out; she looked around at surrounding patron's platters and opted out of ordering all together. If only I had done the same. Funny thing, I tried to feed my giant English Mastiff the left overs and he wouldn't even finish the plate. NOTE TO JOHNSON"S CORNER: reduce amount of effort/money put into expensive yet pointless gift shop trinkets; Serve freshly made food (specially steak as your next to one of the largest feed lots in the nation). IF YOU DID THOSE THINGS: every single trucker would stop (regardless of fuel price) because they want the experience of good diner eating; a lot of commuters to and from Denver would stop for the same experience; better food would greatly increase your popularity and potentially receive national recognition and gain patrons from around the nation. I live in Fort Collins and I will never eat at Johnson's corner again. Please except this advice or you too will soon be disappointed. read more
