Well I guess it's a wrap for this place, even though we live 3 minutes down the road. I can't believe the audacity to charge $47 for 6 oz of plain lobster meat tossed in a little dish. Couldn't even put the butter in the dish. One tiny scoop each of potatoes and butternut squash to round it out. And another person in our party got the 3.5 oz lobster roll ($27). The soup in the picture was obviously in addition to the ridiculously high priced lobster. As a lovely boy relevant sidenote to the whole rip off job, my husband got the haddock and shrimp and was sadly in the bathroom all night long literally. Let's do some math, at these prices, with the hotdog roll, mashed and squash being throwaway items, they're selling lobster meat at $125/pound. I was visiting the area and stopped by this place for a bite to eat. The restaurant was a little on the busy side so there was about a ten minute wait to get a table. Once we were seated our waitress came over right away to see what we wanted for beverages. They have a pretty decent sized menu with everything on it from seafood to pasta dinners to steak. Or if you are in the mood to eat light they do have salads, sandwiches and appetizers. I was up for some seafood so I decided to order the fried sea scallops. You get to pick two side dishes so I got the french fries to go with it and I upgraded my other side dish for a salad for a two dollar up charge. The scallops were delicious and cooked just right. I also liked the salad and the ranch dressing I had on it was very good. The other party dining with me ordered the fried clams and was very happy with their dinner as well. It took a little while to receive our dinners but it was well worth the wait. The service was friendly and attentive. I'd definitely consider dining here again. read more

The food we had for lunch was amazing. We both had crab stuffing with fresh baked haddock. The smaller portion was lunch size, but my husband opted for the dinner size for $4 more and twice as much portion. He also had the onion rings that were so plentiful and tasty. Entry #10 on the Let's Get Take-Out on the Way Home from Work on Friday! Last night I stopped at Johnson's on Route 11 in New Durham. It was right about 5PM, so there were a few people waiting around the lobby to be seated. I told the hostess that I wanted to place an order for take-out. She directed me to go outside and order at one of the take-out windows, like one would order ice cream at during summer. That was kind of sucky since it was a cold and very windy afternoon. There were no other customers outside, obviously, since it was so cold and windy. Nevertheless, I placed my order with the pleasant gal at the take-out window. She told me that my order would be ready in a few minutes. I wish i thought to ask how long it actually would be because I wouldn't have stood outside freezing my tail off in the wind and cold. After about ten minutes, I went inside to warm up for a bit. I wondered if the take-out window people would notice where I went. Worried that if my food were ready, it would be cold by the time I got it, I went back outside where I waited another ten minutes waiting for someone to notice me at the take-out window. Finally, the gal went to check on my order. She was gone for a few minutes, but happily she returned with my food. From the time of exiting my car when I arrived, to returning back to the car with my food: 34 minutes. I ordered a fried haddock sandwich. It smelled like it would be delicious as I drove home. My mouth watered at the thought of a tasty haddock sandwich on a toasted bun, cool lettuce and tomato, the deep fried fish dripping with warm melted cheese... but when I tore into my bag, I was very surprised to find a bare pair of fried haddock pieces atop a... sub roll? Having been a fan of fried haddock sandwiches for the better part of 50 years, this was the weirdest fried haddock sandwich I have ever seen. A sub roll? Where were the lettuce and tomato? The cheese? At least there was tartar sauce- thank god! - provided in a little take-out cup. A gaggle of unimpressive shoestring fries rounded out the rest of my box. I truly wanted to hate the food, but truth be told, the haddock was delicious. Flaky, cooked to perfection and twice as much fish as I would expect on a haddock sandwich. I savored every bite. Three stars, which were earned by the haddock alone. The extremely disappointing presentation, ordering process, and substandard fries might be enough for me to not visit again, but I will be remembering the tasty haddock for some time to come. read more

Stopped in for the very first time since living here! The food was delicious, I had a grilled shrimp sandwich wrap which was prepared deliciously. Husband has a fried haddock sandwich! He enjoyed every bit of it as it was so big that two people could have eaten it. Service was excellent, Sue was the best. Definately a great find. Wow! Our first time dining at any Johnson's, and it won't be our last. An unassuming outside, but such a pleasant, airy inside with plenty of light and space. The staff -- every single person -- was top notch. Genuinely friendly and proactive. They seem empowered to make a great customer experience. It is appreciated! The food was delicious. The squash! Oh my goodness, I would have licked the dish if I could. The prices were reasonable for such good food, great service, and generous portions. My husband had a burger special with jalapeño poppers. I LOVE JOHNSON'S! I typically get the breaded mushrooms as an appetizer. They're so darn good! Recently, I split the Johnson's Fisherman's Platter with my husband. The scallops were thick & juicy! I'd say that the whole belly clams weren't up to par, considering it's an upcharge vs. the clam strips, but still packed with flavor. Our waitress, Courtney, was super friendly! When the bar ran out of a particular porter beer I ordered, she was kind enough to have the bartender recommend alternatives. The one I had wasn't even on the tap menu; it was DELICIOUS. Something with whoopie pie in the name. Courtney would check on us frequently & always had a smile. Last time I went was 11/13/22 & again, excellent service & hot, tasty food. This place is the best. We were searching high and low for a place to get lobster after a failed lunch experience in northern NH. Came here on a whim and boy were we blown away. Great Service!!! Started with a raspberry margarita! Great flavor, my husband had a Seven seven he also was happy he had a half rack of ribs they were up to his standards. I enjoyed the clam chowder and walnut salad with raspberry vinaigrette. The greens were a great assortment not Romain lettuce! Plenty of walnuts and cranberries! There is a saying "One rotten apple spoils the whole barrel;" and, we had the one rotten apple tonight. Our server, Heather, was just the worst server we have had in a long time. I knew we were off to a wrong start when she threw the menus on the table and walked away. We came for an early dinner around 4PM. We remained pleasant throughout the entire meal. When she brought our salads, they were piled high in a small bowl; I asked if she could bring us two plates (one for me and one for my husband) so that we would not get salad all over the table. She left and came back with bread size plates that was no bigger than the bowl the salad was currently in. We asked again for larger plates. She brought two dinner size plates and said "Is this big enough for you"? Wow, what a response from a server to a simple guest request! We had to ask for set-ups as there were only two on the table and there were 4 of us. She seemed to be put off no matter what we asked for. At any rate, I ordered the special of Fish Tacos. They were good, but nothing like any fish tacos I have ever had. Yes, they were in a soft taco shell with two pieces of fried haddock and Cole slaw. My husband had the baked haddock and scallops. Our friends had fish and chips and the salmon salad. They are locals we were visiting and were so taken aback by the service we received since they suggested we come here. Got the cheddar bacon. Burger . For the price and tastiness of the Burger , I would give it 4 stars. The. Brioche bun was really good, tasted fresh soft and made a perfect meat to ratio. I had my burger cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly. More bacon would make this a 5 star burger. The coffee Frappe 5 stars , super thick The mayonnaise based lobster role was given 4 stars , for the amount of lobster and the price it was a deal. The cole slaw was good not overly dressed and tastes fresh. Sweet potatoes fries were also very fresh . The baked potato was under cooked a little hard and nothing to write home about. read more

Since the pandemic began, I've had a miserable experience, at most every Restaurant I've been to. In those 3 months, I've had exactly 2 good experiences, both at Johnson's in New Durham. The Hospitality business is really about 2 things. A patrons expectations and the host, "executing the experience" they promise. Johnson's isn't fancy. By all accounts and appearances, it's just another, typical, family style, NH restaurant. Don't be fooled. Raise your expectations and give them a try. Last week, I had the best haddock (& largest portion) that I've had in years. Fresh. Perfectly cooked. More than I could eat and priced ridiculously low. Tonight, I had their Thick Cut Prime Rib. Again, more than I could eat and priced reasonably. A very good cut of beef, served with a too hot to eat baked potato and butternut squash. I can't bring myself to give a family style, modest restaurant, 5 Stars, but I'd give Johnson's 4.5 Stars if I could. I ended up with the same Server, on both of my visits. Courtney deserves 10 Stars! Give Johnson's a try, you won't regret it. Oh yeah. No Coca-Cola .... Pepsi! read more

I love Johnson's. My wife and I have stopped a few times over the years, and still to this day is one of our favorite spots for a good lobster roll. It's fair priced, and comes with fries and coleslaw. CLASSIC! I really enjoy the addition of the tap room, and plethora of beer options. Did not know they had a restaurant and bar until recently and because of the vast amounts of drafts on tap...... quickly has become my new go to spot. Food/Drink. On both fronts, food and beverage selection is amazing! Totally worth it and they will have something for everyone. Atmosphere/cleanliness. Clean and beautiful on the inside. The bar is a really fun spot to sit and have a drink with friends. Service. Very slow. My first time visiting the waitress never gave us a beer list, just menus and we waited over 10 minutes for our waitress to come over and she had no idea we'd never seen the beer list. When you have 36 drafts on tap you'd think that would be the first thing you give the customer. We literally were there for 30min before we received a drink and had our orders for food in, BUT staff is very friendly and accommodating! Prices. A little on the high side I won't lie. For places in the area they could come down a bit. $8 a pint! This is not Boston! To high! Johnson's dairy bar is great! A little pricy and the hours are terrible. Other then that, I'd say give this place a try! 3 stars for friendliness, food and vast quantity of drafts on tap and atmosphere/cleanliness! Good place to get an ice cream cone if you don't mind standing in line for a while, swatting mosquitoes. For savory fare, stick with the pub food, and the bar is more comfortable. Several craft beers on tap. Avoid the dining room, which is loud and kind of uncomfortable. Don't go getting fancy by ordering an entree, they are mediocre. They have a great location and are almost always busy. Stick to my advice and you'll be fine. read more
