Johnson's Dairy Bar is a great pit stop to grab locally inspired ice cream flavors. We stopped on Friday evening and the line was hefty because the ice cream is no secret. There is a little window to order and pay and then a short wait for ice cream to come out on the other side. They were having some computer issues so the wait was a little longer than usual. However, the young staff is friendly. We ordered Camp Coffee ice cream kiddie size. The portions are HUGE so the kiddie size is perfect. The ice cream is fabulous, creamy with a great coffee flavor. So good! The menu has popular local sandwiches as well, so you can get a meal. I thought prices were on the high side, but they have some good daily specials. They have many clean, outside, covered picnic tables to enjoy your treats. Lovely flowers decorate the patio. There's plenty of parking. I highly recommend. read more

Had lunch with a friend today at Johnson's. Al ordered the sea scallops (lunch time portion) and I had the half rack of ribs both with a side of fries and coleslaw. I also included three oysters since Tuesday is buck a shuck. We enjoyed two of the porters brewed on site. The service was fast and friendly but occasionally erratic (I had to remind my waitress about water and ketchup). We eat in the main restaurant for the full menu but visited the brewery to pick up some of their current brews. One nitpick, I pay with cash but my bill had the automatic credit card fee included. That can be a hassle and I just told them to give it to the tip. Waitstaff should let customers know before the bill arrives about it again. read more

My entire family raved about Johnson's Seafood and Steak for two days so I was pretty excited to finally give this place a shot while I was visiting New Hampshire. For two days I was told that this place had the best macaroni and cheese in the world and between my two nephews, sister in law, brother, and parents planning on ordering this I figured I would do the same since that's a lot of recommendations, right? Well this place apparently discontinued the macaroni and cheese two weeks before I was here and that's the most disappointing start to a restaurant visit I could have asked for. Since we all needed to pick new things off the menu to order, I ended up trying the lobster roll with French fries as a main course and we split orders of calamari and buffalo chicken strips for our appetizers. One plus this place definitely has is it has an ice cream place out front so after dinner, you can get a few scoops of ice cream so obviously I did and I went with the Cookie Monster option, but I don't recall the actual name, either way, How was the food you ask? French Fries- pretty standard steak fries, no complaints at all. Chicken Strips- I really liked these, basically the perfect level of crispy, sauce, and tender chicken meat. Calamari- solid enough calamari, no complaints. Lobster Roll- what I learned here is that mayonnaise lobster rolls aren't great (at least to me) and I'm gonna have to stick with the hot butter ones in the future. The roll was a good enough size, but the overpowering amount of mayonnaise compared to lobster was a no-go from me. Ice Cream- super rich, super creamy, and tasted very good. Portions here are pretty large so be prorated to order a size smaller than what you would usually order. Overall, I liked my experience at Johnson's Seafood and steak and since I've never actually had the macaroni and cheese, I won't knock them for that. The service here was really good, the food all came out quickly, and the food tasted pretty good (can't knock them for the lobster roll too much, I knew what I was getting into). If you find yourself looking for some comfort food in Northwood, this place will take care of you. read more

Met up with a friend for lunch here. I haven't been to this one in some time but it was pretty good! My friend got the buffalo wrap which she said was great and she always gets a cup of chowder. I had the steak tacos which had plenty of steak! The pico de gallo that was on it though, if that is what it was, was so vinegary that it took over the whole thing. Staff was super nice and over all it was a good lunch choice! P.S. She was not a fan of her fries. I am not a huge French fry person but they actually make them the way I like the most. I've yet to dine in the restaurant but Johnson's is a favorite for my boyfriend and I. He loves getting their frappes, and their ice cream portions are extremely generous. We went to Johnson's on a Monday and took advantage of the Fish and Chips special: 2 for $25. We made a great choice by doing that. The fish was exactly right in portion size and crisp. The real treat was the French fries, however. They were memorably delicious. I never thought I could say that about French fries but the way they were cut and cooked was to perfection. The waitress was perfectly nice and made regular stops to our table. It was lunch time when we went so it was not crowded. We really appreciated the AC with the heat of the day. Though we were not seated at the bar, I did notice how friendly, patient, respectful and attentive the young bartender was to an older couple seated there. He wasn't like that with just that couple either. Another sat at the bar and he interacted with them in the same manner. This guy seemed to have regulars and I could see why he had earned that. Go to the back and you'll find a nice bar with an Impressive beer list and even wine on tap too! They do beer flights of 4, not sure if they do wine flights too? Owner is super friendly and came out to say hi. He used to own the other location but sold it and started this. Food was excellent, good portions and not overpriced. After the second time being here I can review appropriately. I came in the summer and returned in the winter. I'll say that the summer is obviously crazy busy. So expect to have to wait for sit down service. But it's a large restaurant so they are rather quick with turn around. And despite being busy the food came out pretty fast. There's ice cream and food offered outside in the summer but I opted to eat inside on both occasions. The first room you enter in the dining room is more of a family style diner ish feeling. There's a back room with a bar which was where I sat on my second visit. I hadn't even noticed the bar the first time because I was there with family and sat in the first room. I prefer the bar room myself. It was a Sunday for me on both visits. This past winter visit, there was a guitarist preparing to play as we were just finishing. Very cute atmosphere with a working fireplace. The food was good. My lobster roll tasted fresh and they accommodated my extra pickle request which I love. I felt the ratio lobster to grilled buttered hot dog bun was perfect. Call me old school but it's always gotta be a hot dog bun for me. Fries were nice and crispy skinny guys. Everything tasted good and was cooked well. No complaints. I'll be back as this is now become a stop on our route to visit family. Brews wings and beer at Northwoods, seafood, prime rib and full bar (plus the brewery's beer) at Johnson's restaurant, and ice cream at the dairy bar. We went to Johnson's on an unusually busy (per our awesome waiter Trevor) Tuesday night. We started with buck a shuck oysters and the tots ...both awesome. Burger for me, cooked rare (perfect), and fish tacos for my husband which he enjoyed. Flight of beers from next door, good. But honestly...my Cosmo...on point! So good! We have been eating here for decades. Yesterday was the last time. Had to ask the server twice for lemons. Finally gave up and got them from the bar. Fish was literally drenched in a pool on oil on my plate. The bun on my wife's clam roll was burnt. Sever never checked on our meal. Was nowhere to be found when we were ready to leave. The kids meal was a deal at $6, but when we ordered a side of applesauce to go with the French fries that came with it, $2 for a 1/3 c. Butternut squash was their vegetable. Beautiful bar that is why they scored a 2 instead of a 1. The customer service on the bar need WORK! Maybe it is because they have to wait tables on top of serving the bar. The bar should be top priority. I should NOT have to wait for someone to walk by me in order to order a drink. Everyone is short handed and we get that however we are not talking pre-Covid we joined the "meme era hop" for the beer club when we moved here.. pre-covid. The inability to recognize there is a customer with an empty glass in front of them tells me they are preoccupied with the other "things " they need to do. The food is "good" could be better with some attention to detail. The bar should be slamming because it is gorgeous. Just need to work on the customer attention. We shouldn't have to wait to order a drink, or get our check, or order food, lots of work needs to be done there for them to be successful. We have given them 3+ years to prove they are competency and ability to "keep up the pace" at a bar that is hardly ever full, probably because they are not serving anyone AT the bar!!! Our server was great and made sure to update us when the price of the seafood had gone up rather than just charging us without letting us know. Growing up near here I remember coming to Johnson's as a did for ice cream! Back in the area now came by for lunch. All redone, of course, nice place! Restaurant on one side, brewery on the other. Had a classic Nee England lunch with steamers, chowder and a perfect New England lobster roll (toasted roll, very light dressing, lots of lobster). Nice service as well. Johnson's Seafood & Steak has a decent menu offering chowders, fried appetizers, steamers, salads, pasta, seafood, lobster, steak, ribs, sandwiches, ice cream, homemade desserts, beer, wine, and Coke drinks. Near the entrance, there's a bakery case full of brownie cups, fruit bars, cookies, macaroons, and breads, all looked tempting. In the dining rooms, the tables are all pinewood with dark green seating, and the walls are rose colored with framed pictures & farmhouse decor with pinewood trim. Outside, the Dairy Bar (same building as the Restaurant) with takeout windows serves up typical drive-in fare including ice cream treats, sandwiches, rolls, fries, onion rings, fried seafood dinners and Coke drinks. If you just want those kinds of items without waitstaff service, then the Dairy Bar is for you. There's ample picnic table seating next to the building. Last night, I stopped at the Restaurant for dinner. The place was fairly busy, but I was seated immediately. I started out with a bowl of Fish Chowder ($4.59), which had haddock pieces, potatoes, & onions in a thin broth, lacked flavor. The complementary Oat Bread loaf with butter was warm and crumbly. For dinner, I had the Fried Oysters Special ($13.99) with fries and cole slaw, which tasted decent, not too greasy. The good portion of large oysters was warm and could've used a few more seconds in the fryer, but the food was tasty including the sweet minced cole slaw. For dessert, I got some macaroons and fig bars from the bakery case to go, which was also good with my morning brew. First this is not your parents "Johnson's". It has been over a year since we tried it last and it was not very good. We decided to give it one more chance as we have been going for over 40 years. It turned out to be even worse. The staff was okay but food for 3 of the 4 of us was really bad. The BBQ ribs were dry thoughout the rib (we were told sorry new cook) i had the world famous steak tips. They also were very dry and taste like overcooked boots. I gave it a 1 rating as my wife's haddock and chips was extremly good. We were told sorry but that was it. We still tipped 25% as staff tried hard and I think it was not their fault but just the owners dont really care about the food as they focus on the brewery. If you want good beer this is the place but dont go for the food here! read more

Wow! This is my first time eating here and I'm impressed. Everything was great! The clam chowder was AMAZING! We crumbled the cheddar biscuits in our soup which made it even better. The fried pickles were perfectly cooked too! My dad ordered the pulled pork sandwich and said it was awesome. We ended our meal with ice cream to go. I got the campfire s'mores and LOVED it! The kiddie size is just the right amount. Everything was reasonably priced too. We plan to be back for sure next time we are in NH. read more

ABYSMAL. A group of 9 of us called ahead to ask if they could take a group of 9 and what the wait was. We were told minimum 20min wait, maximum 25min wait for a group of 9. We asked if we could put a reservation in and they said no we had to come in as they do not do phone reservations. We headed right over and made a reservation in person and they again stated 20-25mins max. we sat in the lobby for almost an hour and a half while 3 different groups of 6-8 people showed up after us and were seated before us. We finally got seated and our Teenage waitress, we'll call her "Phyllis" was extremely unpleasant the entire time. No smiles, no introductions. We ordered drinks and she brough half out then 10mins later then other half except they had run out of 1 beer. The person who ordered it asked for a different one then waited 20mins for the beer to come and only after reminding "Phyllis" that he still had not received his beer. Phyllis finally came back, tossed his beer on the table spilling some on another gentleman and walked away. We then waited roughly 40mins for our feed to come and on,y when we were served did one of the gentleman find out they were unable to make his order as they were out of it. "Phyllis" in the mean time decided she would continue her trend of not serving the table and only putting drinks and food on the corner of the table and waiting for the 3 people at the end to figure out who ordered what then moving it down the table before she would put more food and drinks on the table. "Phyllis checked in on use 1 time during our meal and when we asked for new drinks she sighed and took 20mins to get them. All in all it was ALMOST 4 hours at Johnsons and almost a $400 bill and the most unpleasurable waitress ever. We (ALL 9 of us) decided none of us will ever go back. The food was wildly over priced, practically flavorless and the beers were beyond flat, served at 45 degrees if not warmer, and drinks were all sugar, no alcohol not to mention the worst waitress we have ever had and lying to us that it was a 20-25min wait yet taking similar group sizes to us who came after us and making us wait an hour and a half. This is New Hampshire. seafood places are a dime a dozen and I guarentee 80% of them will be 1000% better than johnsons and probably cheaper....by a ton! DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I get mistakes happen, but when someone is trying to figure out how this happened, how are you going to just hang up on them?
