Our second visit to the local establishment nearby our cousins that hosted us in their home this weekend. We had a meal on Friday and then again on Sunday (for this review). We sat at the bar tonight and I snapped a picture of everyone's pasta plates. VERY generous portions all around with leftovers now in the fridge. I had the Italian hot dog sandwich making me the odd man out. Lovely restaurant with plenty of seating. Easy to park and come in the back door. The staff was awesome (Karen) and our hosts know everyone here! I have no idea what the total was as Dave swiped the bill as I was trying to get my credit card to Karen! read more

Always a solid choice. The food is consistently good. My absolute favorite is the JoJo's Special salad with blackened chicken. The salad is filling and just so refreshing. Other solid choices are their wings and bar pie. Their wings are juicy and full of meat. They have a great tap list that is always rotating with local and seasonal beers. They also have a few that are constant regulars in the list. The place is somewhat small. Most of the tavern is taken up by the bar with tables and high tops surrounding it. We usually like to get a seat at the bar if we can. The staff is always pleasant and many of them I have seen for years there. Sunday they have great specials. Like the inside, the parking area is a little tough too...despite those challenges it is always worth it to go. read more

mmmm mm mm! firstly.. very friendly staff! very nice ladies had pleasant interactions with them all! it's quite cozy of a place with all the wooden pieces and tvs lining the walls, with a bar in the center. i'm sure it would be quite fun to be there during a game! we ordered some hot buffalo wings & a plain pie, both came out hot! the wings had a nice and flavorful spice and were crisp, but juicy! they weren't dripping in sauce, which made them easier to eat and kept them from getting soggy. the pizza was mmmm so thin and crisp and greasy YUM. great sauce to cheese ratio. and delicious!!!!! the taste was all there. read more

Came for their bar pie and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a bar pie with hot peppers at $10.99. The crust was crisp and crunchy, with a sweet flavor in the dough. The sauce was lightly sweetened with a perfect cheese to sauce ratio. The cheese itself was fresh, lightly salty and nor greasy or stringy. Hot peppers had an average kick to them. I thought it was a great deal for the price. The tavern itself is a neighborhood spot. I was there just before lunch, sat at the bar and before I knew it I was surrounded with regulars. (One was an annoying slurper of soup and loud chewer and the other sat so close to me he could have shared my pizza with me). I kind of wish the TV's were turned up louder! Having said that the bar seating can get tight, but not to worry there are plenty of tables. I liked the way they had their TV's spread out along the walls so you could catch whatever sports were on pretty easily. The Christmas decorations made it feel festive. The bartender was attentive and nice. The beer menu had a lot of classics and an above average offering of craft beer with some variety of styles. I enjoyed a fresh Maine Lunch with my pizza, but the $9 asking for a small pour was a bit more than I'm used to. Parking was found easily in their large parking lot behind the building. Most people were ordering bar pies as an app and quite a few people popped in for takeout while I was there so I think it's safe to say the pizza is good! Thanks guys! read more

Bravo JoJo's! I have seen many posts in local food groups on social media suggest this establishment. My family and I just wrapped up a delicious lunch! After hearing the place gets pretty crowded I called ahead to inquire about a table. They kindly offered us a table outside. 15 min later and we're enjoying our own little VIP section on a beautiful autumn afternoon. All of the food we had was excellent - pizza particularly. Although the place was crowded the food was unremarkable and not a value. Won't be going back.

Finally was able to return two years later. Food tasted exactly as great as it was the first time. Service was even better. Updated drink and food menus had some awesome new items (stuffed rigatoni with their killer vodka sauce, y'all! And the Golden Door Mango Lager was stellar). Seating still cramped. But hardly one table in the joint seemed to mind. Just a good place with good eats that everyone looks happy to enjoy, you can trust will be good every time, and you look forward to going back to. Food and service is excellent, best pizza and everything comes out fast, this place was full and I mean out the door full on a Monday night and they handled it like a well oiled machine, clean a table got us sat took our order and we were served in like no time at all, and the place is spotless as well. We live over an hour from Jojos just happened to be in the area, but we will definitely make the drive back, just ate our slices at home that we packed to go and they were delicious. Always a fun stop when visiting this part of Jersey. Definitely a local favorite for go to bar food, great beer selection as well as cocktails. Loud, energetic crowd, great service and always packed. Tough to forgo the pizza here, but we opted for apps as we were having dinner that night in Princeton. We choose wisely as the app portions were huge and spot on. The wings were cooked to perfection, meaty with the right amount of heat. As you can see, the nachos could feed a small army (though the 3 of us managed to clean the plate!). Used to be my go to for a bar pie with sausage but this evening that pizza was horrible. Melted plastic cheese, no sauce to be found and horrible crust. Who ever made that pie needs to find their way back to Pizza Hut. A definite slip from what was #1. Now a big zero. read more

Located at Five Points in the Hamilton area, Jojo's Tavern is one of those places with decent reviews that I had overlooked eating at over the years. It's a modestly small local pub with a very loyal local customer base. While not a fancy place, compared to Bill's across the way, Jojo's interiors seemed cleaner, much brighter, and more inviting in general. We wanted to try out a variety of items, so went with mozzarella sticks, a plain cheese bar pie (pizza), a chicken parmigiana sandwich, and a side of waffle fries. The mozzarella sticks were a hearty breaded kind, but a standard frozen food service type that weren't bad, but just very standard without much flavor in the breading. The bar pizza was pretty average and underwhelming, and any of the Hamilton area Italian owned pizzerias can do much better in the taste department, as none of the ingredients stood out in flavor or quality. The chicken parmigiana sandwich was probably the best part of the meal, with a hearty portion served with yummy tasting potato chips, but otherwise average with regards to recipe. The waffle fries which were recommended by the waitress were also quite underwhelming (Chick Fil A does better waffle fries). While the service was extremely friendly and decently paced, the food quality left quite a bit to be desired. I'm glad to have checked Jojo's Tavern off of my places to try out, but with the mediocre and average at best food experience, it's probably not a place I'd be recommending to others or returning to anytime soon. read more

Yes, Amazing is about right. Service, food and price point are all great and Packed at 3pm on a Saturday is all you need to know but .....Again Jojo's comes through with flying colors for making my favorite dish by adding scallops to the vodka rig. That, and the wings were perfect. To top it off I ordered the tiramisu for the first time, our waitress added a candle for my Birthday. My only regret is all the missed opportunities to have had this dessert sooner. You'll have to figure out parking on your own, but your efforts - even walking a bit will not be in vain! I cannot express how much me & my family LOVE Jojos!!!!! My bf & I are regulars here, we usually visit every other weekend. It's our favorite go to restaurant. I seem to fall in love with the restaurant more and more with each visit. It's the perfect place to come to if you are looking for phenomenal Italian-American food. And in my personal opinion, I don't think there is anyone who makes a better martini than this place. Walking into Jojos just feels like family. You'll always see guests laughing, greeting each other, and enjoying each other's company. Parking can be a hassle, especially if you go on a Friday or Saturday. However, you can find spare parking in the lot next door. No matter what day you decide to go, Jojos is always busy! So I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you're not looking to wait very long. Bar seating is very limited and so is indoor. Outdoor seating is now available which is a plus but I prefer sitting inside. Pictures and posts cannot express how great this restaurant/bar is, you've just gotta check it out for yourself! I really wanted to like this place. The burgers are huge and the French fries are fresh and crisp. But they failed to cook my order well-done. I cannot eat pink burgers m for gastrointestinal reasons so I had to toss the burger. The next time around I went for their cheesteak to avoid having to encounter pink meat. The cheesesteak was not flavorful at all. It was really disappointing. I may consider visiting this place for some beer and fries with a friend. A visit to Jo-Jo's Tavern by Candice Brearley www.restaurantindulgences.com A friend of mine saw me eating escarole and beans one night and said that the dish reminded him of a meal he thought was soooo delicious - Hot Sausage and Broccoli Rabe! That as all I needed to hear! He said he had it in Jo-Jo's Tavern, a neighborhood restaurant and bar that had been in the same spot in Five Points, Hamilton Township, for many years. He made sure to tell me that Jo-Jo's was not a fancy restaurant, but that the food was delectable! So, when Jon and I were in the area, we went. We had just come from taking our passport photos. We had to go back a second time because we needed to be wearing dark shirts (see photo below). We pulled into the parking area in the back, but walked all the way around to the front door. We did not know there was an easy access back door. Clearly, it was our first time there! A very nice waitress named Devin came over to our high top table soon after we were seated. It was about 3:00 P.M., so we were looking for a late lunch / early dinner. We began with our usual Raspberry Martinis, which were rather large and very good! They didn't have Chambord, so they substituted with Razzmatazz liqueur, which, if anything, is a bit sweeter. I perused the menu looking for the Hot Sausage and Broccoli Rabe and there it was! I ordered it immediately because my lunchtime food was way past due. Our accommodating waitress, (Did I say her name was Devin?) told us we would want bread to soak up the sauce. She said that everyone loved to do that, so I agreed. Jon ordered Grilled Clams with Butter and Lemon, which he loved, and he had a Caesar Salad, which he also thought was very tasty. The Broccoli Rabe arrived - it was an extremely large portion - I couldn't believe it was my appetizer. They do not skimp! It was absolutely scrumptious, and I ate more than I planned. I had wanted to leave room for my Softshell Crab Sandwich with Tomato and Avocado on a Kaiser Roll. I can't remember whether the crab was grilled or sautéed, but it was also delicious! Jon ordered one of his favorites, Veal Parmigiana with Pencil Points in Marinara Sauce, which he thought was wonderful. Again, to say that his portion was large would be an understatement. He could not finish either the pasta or the veal, which came home with us, along with some of the Broccoli Rabe and 1/2 the crab sandwich, for another meal the next day! Jon did order (and finished) the Onion Rings because Devin said they were superb and that everyone loved them - he shared them with me and they were gooood! We didn't order dessert, although there were lots of choices that sounded inviting. We did have Espresso Martinis (both caffeinated, by the way!), which we thoroughly enjoyed. The place is comfortable and not decorated; there are several flat screen televisions around for the bar people to catch a game. At 4:00 P.M., the place started filling up, and that was on a Tuesday! I can only imagine what happens on a weekend! I called my friend to thank him and told him that the Hot Sausage and Broccoli Rabe was the best I had ever eaten! We will definitely go back. I used to love this place, 15 years ago. We moved, but decided to go back because we wanted another helping of their the fish and chips during Lent. Should have left it a happy memory. The fish was drowning in near inch-thick batter that was under-cooked , leaving it a pasty consistency. They didn't have the awesome curly fries anymore, and the standard chips were underwhelming. All staff friendly and professional, but also way overcrowded, even for take-out. Truly saddened. read more
