I heard great things about this joint from classmates before. My first exposure was through catering for a college event, and I wasn't a fan of the taste. I decided to give it a second try upon stopping by the Tangram Food Court as a lunch option. The banh mis were a whopping $10-$12 range each. But at least the sandwiches were gigantic. I fell in to the heart next to the Beef Bulgogi ($13) and ordered that. The bread itself is very pillowy, although not toasted, but at least it's not hurting the roof of your mouth. I think I let the heart get to me more than my actual want for bulgogi, because I wasn't a fan of the mushy sweet texture. The modern fusion was a good idea, but it didn't work for me. The kimchi also wasn't spicy or strong at all. There's spicy mayo sauce added in, but nothing about this sando was spicy. Of course, we had to try the Classic ($10) and as you can see from the photos, there is a disproportion of ingredients to bread ratio, especially when compared to the more expensive Bulgogi option. It had me noticing right away the Joju banh mi, which came with the additional BBQ pork, seemed more of the ideal choice for more flavor, and the actual classic option #1 you see at most Viet banh mi spots. Something about these banh mis is missing that spark to them. They're fresh but the flavor felt lackluster. Maybe it's the lack of crustiness in bread for me or minimal sauce. I'm a big fan of Joju especially its original location in Elmhurst which has the most selection of food and bubble tea. I've also been to their Manhattan location near Bryant Park. However, I was in Tangram mall recently and there is a small location of it in the food court. I ordered the Joju monster (Vietnamese ham, headcheese, pâté spread & BBQ pork with runny egg) and the crispy chicken wings. I've never had the wings before. The chicken wings were crispy and surprisingly not greasy. I also requested spicy mayo to dip the wings which gave it a good kick. The sandwich is totally shareable which is pretty hefty in size. I've been meaning to try Joju ever since my sister recommended it to me. When I first saw Joju at the Tangram food court, I was excited to come back to try it, so I finally did. You can either order at the kiosk or with the cashier and I opted for the kiosk to look through the options. I ended up choosing the beef bulgogi sandwich and ordered two spicy green sauce and one spicy mayo on the side. The service was really quick and I got my sandwich within a few minutes. The first few bites were delicious, especially with the spicy green sauce. The banh mi was good, but felt like it was missing a bit of depth and I felt really greasy after eating half the sandwich. By that point, the grease had seeped through the parchment paper they had placed in the box and outside of the box started showing grease spots. The spring rolls were crunchy, full of pork and flavor. Dipped in the sauce is a winning combo. Excited to see a Joju open up at the back of the Tangram food court! The line was looong and rightfully so. The portions are huge and food is made quickly (though there seemed to be a bit of an argument with the man ahead who was given his fries much after others who had offered after him). I got the caramelized pork which was packed with filling and flavor. It was pretty sweet, and would have used a bit more pickled vegetables to balance the taste, but was def a good bang for your buck. There was not much flavor and was more just a salty umami taste. The portion is fine I just did not feel like there was enough flavor. Reasonably price, yummy food inside Tangram mall! It was pretty busy when I came here but the staff were working hard to take and fulfil orders quickly. Growing up in Elmhurst, I've had my fair share of bahn mi from the original Joju location. This new spot in the Tangram food court is convenient but didn't taste as great as the original. We've been fans of JoJu since they first opened in Elmhurst. Fast forward a decade plus later and here we are at their fourth location. On a normal weekend, they are one of the busiest stands in the food court. But they keep that line moving efficiently and smoothly. This time we stopped by for their grand opening. It's nice they have a cashier on hand and also a kiosk. Line keeps flowing and the food keeps coming. You can't go wrong with the classic, lemongrass chicken or bulgogi banh mi. This location serves some of their their most popular items. So you can also get the fried chicken wings (incredible) and their JoJu fries (the original before other restauranteurs picked up on this). Added a mango mojito (it's caffeine and liquor free) and a Vietnamese iced coffee. Grabbed a seat by the sunlit tables and enjoyed our meal. A very family-friendly meal as the kids eat fast and leave satisfied. We got the plain chicken wings and it's amazing. Haven't had these in a while and forgot how good it was. The batter is light yet delightful, skin is crunchy, meat is filling and the chicken wing itself is a good size. It stays crunchy after sitting out for a while, too. Kids devoured this. Beverages are refreshing. The Vietnamese iced coffee was so good with the sandwiches. Extremely fragrant, condensed milk was mixed well and thoroughly, and each sip was a nice punch of flavor. They don't skimp on ingredients nor taste so it's well worth pairing a drink with your meal. It's nice to have JoJu as an option at Tangram's food court and offers another variety of Asian cuisine. With Flushing having no good bahn mi places-, I was so glad Joju finally made it here. I've tried their Classic bahn mi and their Sweet Joju Bahn mi several times, both at the Elmhurst location and Flushing location. Their quite good and it does satisfy my immediate bahn mi craving, but I do wish their baguette was a bit toastier and crunchier. Their bahn mi is just missing something, although I'm not sure what it is... Joju is definitely one of the most popular stalls located inside Tangram, and they do have a very loyal following. I've mostly ordered online through their QR code, so I don't have to wait too long, but even then, it's usually an extra 5-10 minute wait from the time that they gave me. I have never had a banh mi like this before! Absolutely iconic let me tell you. I ordered the bulgogi banh mi and added jalapenos and spicy mayo. The bulgogi was perfectly seasoned and shaved. The flavors worked so perfectly together! I loved how the banh mi was packaged too in the bright green box. I do wish that it was a bit spicier but it was still very, very good. i had heard about joju in elmhurst for a while now for having the best banh mis, so i was super excited to try this spot out! other reviews have noted that joju is one of the more popular stalls in the tangram food court, and i'd agree. the line does go by pretty quickly though. you order through a screen rather than speaking to someone which i think is nice to make the ordering process go a little faster. i believe they're cashless. there were a lot of banh mis to order from, each of them with a good amount of customizability. i got the the joju which comes with classic vietnamese ham, headcheese, pâté spread & BBQ Pork. the portion size of the one banh mi order was pretty massive, i was fairly hungry and like 75% of it got me pretty full. i see why there's a joju hype and def want to come back some other time to try more of their menu. read more

As much as I hate to admit it, I had not had a banh mi before coming here because every time I go to a Vietnamese restaurant, I can't resist getting pho and I could never finish a banh mi and pho. Fortunately this place mainly sells banh mi sandwiches and I've heard a lot of good things. I got the lemongrass chicken banh mi with a mango lychee mojito for a little less than $20. The sandwich was pretty big and stuffed to the brim with chicken and veggies. The chicken was juicy and tender and the pickled carrots and daikon radish added the perfect crunch and tartness. The cucumber and cilantro also added a bit of freshness. The bread was also delicious, it was soft and warm and had the perfect amount of chewiness. It also absorbed the juices very well because I didn't have to worry about anything dripping down my hands and arms while eating it. The mango lychee mojito was also delicious. It was perfectly sweet and went well with the sandwich. You taste the mango first and then you get the lychee flavor at the end. The drink has some mint leaves and lemon slices, which paired really nicely. And the addition of the sparkling water made it addictive. Website says it was on a soft opening, so I'm hoping that it gets better. The Thai iced tea and the egg roll were great (and I liked the green sauce a lot, too). The beef bulgogi had great flavor and tasted great, but I do wish it was hotter. I asked for the bahn mi to be spicy, and I didn't find it spicy at all, plus the kimchi and bread ratio to meat was overwhelming. I ended up tossing about 1/4th of it because it because just bread and kimchi. Add the spicy mayo and you will not regret it. The service was fast considering the crowds it draws in. You can even order ahead of time to this location for pick up or use the kiosk.
