    penne broccolini. Hella good!

So...I think this just became my favorite mid-week/mid-day "coffice" spot. No, there's no public WiFi BUT they are laptop friendly, plenty of power outlets , and a small but ON POINT selection of local craft beers and wines. I don't mind using my hotspot if you got good food and drank to keep me going. Short review: amazing service, great food, good drinks, fire music. Inside can feel tight when it's booked, appreciate the countertop section. Outside for the win (weather permitting). Small private parking lot, neighborhood parking plentiful. Great staff. They're all hip and good looking. I've been coming for YEARS only when I want to splurge. But today it dawned on me how this can be a regular thing. THE FOOD: overall pricy, but all is hella good. Haven't had a 'not so great' item yet. My favs: eggplant parm, calamari, Calabrian gem salad, mushroom pizza. Oh! And that pasta with the broccolini. Oh! And the friend zucchini. Oh! And that damn burrata and toast. Oh! And the kids Mac n cheese (don't judge and don't knock it). Oooh! And that shaved zucchini salad, my goodness...

This Italian restaurant offers a variety of dishes, which, would satisfy any craving. I ordered, garlic bread, hass avocado toast with olive oil and lemon with crushed red chili peppers, ricotta, orange blossom honey and toasted sesame, spicy fusili, vodka, basil and parmesan, spaghetti limone and parmesan cheese, rigatoni, six hour beef bolognese and parmesan. All the dishes were good and had great flavor. The portion sizes were large enough and priced accordingly. However, the garlic bread although good was a bit overly cooked and did have a somewhat burnt taste. The staff were great and was very attentive throughout my entire meal. The establishment has an outside dining area which, is well lit and can accommodate a good size group. There's also a large wine cellar stocked with a myriad of wines to accompany any dish. Parking is available but depending on your reservation time street parking may be your only option.

delicious pasta and pizza place ! we got the marinara meatballs, spicy fusilli, corn agnolotti, LA woman pizza, and el chaparrito pizza,, would absolutely order everything again! i came around 9pm and wasn't too busy, so our food came out relatively fast. the workers gave us some cookies and ice cream at the end near closing, which we appreciated so much!

2nd time eating at Jon & Vinny's and everything has been good so far! The service was great, it was a full house so we had to wait a bit to get seated. I suggest you make reservations! Clean location, we sat in the patio and they have heaters outside which was nice! Parking lot is small but can get parking on the street if lucky!

    Brooklyn dodger pizza

We love a business that not only serves great food, but also does great work within the community. Found out about this place through SZA's not charity initiative . I was fortunate to be able to try their Brooklyn dodger pizza which is basically a margarita pizza that is extremely delicious!!! I'm a big fan of Il Fornaio's margarita pizza but this might be my new favorite . To note with Il Fornaio's Margarita I always have to add extra basil and extra oregano but with this pizza, it was perfect without any modifications especially with the thinly sliced garlic. That comes with it . I'm so glad to have found this place as it's it's more local to me !! Check them out !

Jon & Vinny's is one of those classic LA Italian spots. Consistently good, a nice ambience, but a little pricey. I went to the Slauson location on this occasion. What we ordered: 1. The Brooklyn dodger pizza - fabulously garlicky and with the slightest hint of basil. Huge fan of neopolitan pizzas, so Jon & Vinny's pizzas really hit the spot for me. Loved that they kept the sauce light, and the crust was amazing. 2. Broccolini pasta - so refreshing yet satisfying. Love a good pasta that doesn't rely on a meat sauce. 3. Spicy fusilli - a classic. Hearty and satisfying.

There's minimal seating inside and a few outside. They do take reservations so make one in advanced. Service was fast and food comes randomly when its done cooking so dont expect appetizers to come before entrees. The salad was delicious and the fusili was the standout but everything else was just meh... I wouldn't order it again.

This spot hits every time. Parking is a bust most of the time; which has caused me to go elsewhere half of the time. I usually get the Polenta Bolognese and Pepperoni Pizza. Both are rich and delicious, paired with an iced tea, and Affogato for dessert. You cant go wrong. The benches are hard which is a negative due to me having lower back pains. All in all, i'll keep coming back. Maybe i'll try something new next time.

It's easy to drive by this place. It has a small parking lot and a neon green sign. It's worth a try as the food is good and it's a busy trendy place. The Spicy Fusilli was the stand out. The Gem Salad was good too. The Cavatelli and Roman Gladiator pizza were good, but I probably wouldn't get those again. It's small and modern with clean light wooden booths. There's also a heated patio with booths too. Reservations recommended. The service was friendly and fast.

    Pizza making class
    Mae M.

The pizza making classes are fun and perfect for a medium sized group! My coworkers and I all attended a fun pizza making class here where we all got to make our own pizza complete with a tutorial and all the standard fixins :) Overall it was a great experience - our instructor was kind/patient and walked us all through how to spread out and toss the dough into the pizza shape. They provided an array of different topping options from different types of cheeses (mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, ricotta) to meats and veggies. They also brought out homemade ranch and buffalo sauce for us to use as sauces. Both were a big hit among the group and I especially liked the ranch a lot. The whole process took about 3 hrs but that also included wine, appetizers, and dessert for our group. I really enjoyed the pizza I made and it was fun seeing everyone's pizza come out the oven. The desserts were also very good (the tiramisu was my favorite). One thing I noticed about the cannoli was that they don't fully fill the inside in the middle with cream. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of if you want a nice stuffed cannoli. The only downside is that the class takes place outdoors in their parking lot and there are no chairs to sit after you make your pizza. It can get cold at night so make sure to bring a jacket. The parking can also be tough here since the lot is very small but there is some neighborhood parking behind the restaurant, just make sure you read the signs.

Went here last night for a friend's bday dinner. We ordered a wine bottle, where we noticed there was $50 corkage fee. Crazy work. We made a reservation and were sat down immediately when our party arrived. We ordered a gem lettuce salad for appetizer and the ricotta honey bread, which wasnt what i was expecting, it was just okay. Then we ordered a roman gladiator pizza which was also okay and i think my favorite dish of the night was the spicy fusili. For dessert, we were suggested the strawberry shortcake which was okay. Our server was great, she was attentive along with the server that was training with her, the place wasnt too busy on a Wed night and I appreciate the parking situation greatly. We sat inside the restaurant, i noticed they had outdoor seating, and it was uncomfortably hot inside. I think another guest complained because eventually they turned the A/C on. Overall, it was a good experience and I would be interested in trying different foods. I did mention we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out soft serve with a candle and free cookies which was really nice of them. I appreciate that thoughtfulness.

I work in pizza and I am on a personal pizza journey. Trying the top rated pizza in LA along with suggestions from people I meet along the way. The first time I went to Jon and Vinny's I went to the Fairfax location and had an incredible experience. My focus when I went was pasta and this was a little over a year ago. I don't even remember what the pasta tasted like but I remember the service and ambiance from that location. I wish I could say the same about the Slauson location. What I will remember about my visit 2 nights ago will be the food, not the service. Was it bad service? No. But it was weird from start to finish. We had a 9:30 reservation and the closed at 10, on their website they had reservations available until 945. The paged us at 8:30 saying our table was ready. When we got there at 9:30 we still had to wait for them to get our table ready. I didn't think this is the type of restaurant that was gonna make me feel like I have overstayed my welcome, based on them taking reservations up until 945, but almost immediately after finally sitting down they're telling us they're doing last call while cleaning the tables around us. After all of that energy making us feel like we needed to hurry up when we were ready to cash out our server had entirely disappeared and we had to wait until the host came and asked if we needed anything else and I told her no we are still just waiting to cash out. I tried the vanilla bean soda, it tasted flat and like it was made with sugar free syrup. Not a fan. The highlight was the food. Our first pizza was brought to us and felt like it had been sitting before they ran it to us. It was not nearly as hot as I expected it to be, which I considered to be a service issue not a kitchen issue. The 2nd pizza was perfect. We got a Little Nats and a White Lighting. Incredible, awesome topping combinations, the crust was nicely cooked and had a great flavor, high-quality cheese. I 100% will be back, the kitchen team at this location really nailed it and saved my whole experience. When I return to try more pizza on my second round of pizza tasting, I'm definitely stopping back at Jon and Vinny's. However, I'll return to the Fairfax location, or maybe try one of the others. If I come back to Slauson, I'll probably just sit at the bar or get takeout. Shout up to the awesome cooks who made me wanna come back and try every pizza!

Can any of the pizzas/pasta be made vegan without the cheese?

    Yes

If they charge a 18% service charge for equitable wages, do I need to leave a tip?

It's up to you, but they tell you that the 18% is a service fee and NOT a tip, so yes, technically you should tip on top of that, but the way they calculate the "tip" is on the amount WITH the service fee, so it's compounded! Ridiculous. Just raise…

All the meals we ordered were delicious. Meats along with th chicken were tender and not overcooked. Everything was flavorful. The portions and servings were on point. At the end of our meal Nicolo brought tiramisu with candle for our child's birthday and everyone sang Happy Birthday. When my wife and I go, she always gets the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka (the sauce has the perfect kick and rich texture). As for me, my ultimate strategy is skipping a standard entree and doubling up on appetizers: the Meatballs and the White Truffle Garlic Bread. The bread alone is phenomenal, and the meatballs are tender and packed with flavor. The only major downside to treating apps as my main meal? I begrudgingly have to share with the table! ;) Because the menu is so good across the board, coming here with a larger group is really the best move. It gives everyone an excuse to order family-style and try even more items--our group go-tos include the Calamari Fritti, Crispy Eggplant Parmesan, and one of their hand-crafted pizzas. Plus, since it's cheat day, pairing the meal with one of their crisp, local IPAs from the draft list is an absolute must. Once the waistband is thoroughly loosened, we finish off the night with dessert. We usually just let the table go with whatever seasonal special they're running, and it never disappoints. Honestly, I don't think the marshmallows added much, but I definitely enjoyed eating them. We shared about 5-6 dishes. The White Truffle Garlic Bread was amazing--super soft, flavorful, and not overpowering. The Yellowtail Crudo was one of my favorites. The fish had great texture and quality, and all the salty, citrusy, creamy elements worked really well together. For the mains, the Seared Scallops with sweet corn risotto were a standout. The scallops were seared perfectly with great texture. The Braised Short Rib Lumache was also delicious, although the beef was a little richer than I personally prefer. We also had the Roasted Salmon with fregola and broccolini, which was cooked well and nicely balanced. Our server was amazing--attentive, helpful, and provided great service throughout the night. Overall, it was a great celebration dinner and an excellent first experience at North Italia. I'd definitely come back.

The outdoor area had a relaxed neighborhood feel, and it was nice being outside while the evening was warm. We started with the Fiori di Zucca. The squash blossoms were stuffed with ricotta and Parmigiano, lightly fried, and served with marinara. They were good, although they weren't the dish I found myself thinking about afterward. That honor goes to the mussels. I wasn't expecting them to be my favorite thing we ordered, but they absolutely were. The broth was flavorful enough that I kept going back to it after the mussels were gone, which is usually my personal test for whether a mussel dish has done its job. We also shared the Pappardelle alla Vaccinara with braised oxtail ragù, Parmigiano, and rosemary oil. The ragù had a deep, meaty flavor, and I liked how the rosemary oil cut through some of the richness. It was a solid pasta, but the mussels still won the night for me. My cocktail was light and refreshing, with cucumber and mint, and worked especially well with dinner outside. Everything we ordered was flavorful, and the meal made for a lovely belated birthday dinner. Parking around this stretch of 3rd can be a little tricky. I ended up finding street parking a few blocks away, but Oste does offer valet, which would have saved me the neighborhood parking hunt. For a first visit, I'm glad I finally got to try Oste. It was a relaxed, flavorful dinner and a really nice way to celebrate a belated birthday.
