My family has been coming to Dr Brown for over a decade, today in the midst of trying to solve a silly billing dispute, Norma just straight up hung up on me...She's been a bully in the past also, demanding payment for a service covered by insurance and threatening to mark the balance past due on the day of the service if I don't pay immediately. I just don't understand the power trip thing I guess. I've tried to contact Dr Brown himself over this matter, and he either is being shielded from us by Norma, or doesn't want to handle it. Dr Brown is always personable and pleasant, as is most of his staff. We love Vera, and we really miss his former office manager Lisa. With Norma now handling the office, it has become untenable. Doctor Brown cares about my dental health and my well-being. He ensured that I did not experience discomfort by monitoring my reactions and inquiring how I felt during the procedure. Relief was expeditiously provided before any discomfort became pain. Doctor Brown explained what needed to be done, educated me about my teeth, and provided expedient service to address the problem. My queries were encouraged, with questions answered simply and comprehensively. The two crowns are terrific! Doctor Johnathan Brown, Norma, and Olga are personable, understanding, and (most importantly) competent professionals. Each person in the office demonstrated their attentiveness, kindness and are obviously devoted to my needs and their craft. I've never been so wronged before in my life. It's absolutely egregious the way these people took advantage of my naivety at 18 years old. These people are scams and do not deserve any more business. I called this office beforehand to get an idea of how much I would have to pay for a simple teeth cleaning, and the secretary over the phone quoted around $200. When I got to the office, the hygienist spent about 15 minutes "cleaning" my teeth, and told me I needed to make another appointment to come in for a deep cleaning, which would cost a few hundred to a thousand dollars. I was then directed to enter another room, where another hygienist started taking X-Rays, despite me telling them that I didn't need it and didn't want to pay for it. From there, Jonathan Brown finally entered the room, took a 30 second glance at my teeth, and told me we're all done here. I was then handed a $600 bill at the counter!! When asked why the bill came out to this much, even though I confirmed over the phone weeks prior that this visit should cost around $200, they told me that I was charged $250 for the 15 minute teeth cleaning, $150 for the "professional oral consultation" that Brown performed for 30 seconds, and $200 for the X-Rays that I tried to decline. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all. Every single person in this office is a fraud. It is disgusting what these people did to me and they should be ashamed. read more

I would not recommend Jonathan Brown. Getting a root canal done by him was an absolute nightmare. The first crown he put on cracked in half within 3 months. I had to schedule a return visit where I had to go through the whole process again of having a crown made and wearing a temp for a month. During the visit to have the permanent crown put on he initially put someone else's crown on my tooth. Then when he couldn't find 'mine' he started going through packages of other peoples crowns ready to be put on to see if they were mine by doing the same thing - putting them in my mouth and on my tooth and asking me to bite down - like it was Cinderella and her glass slipper. OTHER PEOPLES crowns and I guarantee you they did not clean those after. They went right back into the package. If I could give negative stars I would. This practice took over for my amazing dentist who retired in 2020. I was notified of this change only when I was called to confirm my upcoming appointment I had with my old dentist. I asked if they were in my network. I was told yes, they were. I went to the appointment and asked again when I got there (before I was seen) and was told yes, they were in my network. I asked again when I checked out...they even confirmed what insurance I had. I found out 3 months later that they lied about that when I received a huge bill. Norma admitted that this was their mistake and I was assured that I would not need to pay the bill. Another lie. I have been going to Dr. Brown for 20 years and love him. We moved out of the area to the West Side of LA nd my family found another dentist. I stayed with Dr.l Brown. Recently my son had a dental problem and was concerned about the treatment that his "new" dentist suggested. I took him to Dr.l Brown for a second opinion and he was so pleased with Dr. Brown that he has now come back to him as "his" dentist even though he now has to drive into the Valley to make his appointments. Dr. Brown is smart, pleasant, efficient, knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He carefully explains everything about what is going on with your teeth and what his care. He has sent me to specialist for root canals and implants and in each case I found his referrals to be excellent. A great dentist. read more

After arriving at appointment, I was told that I would not be seeing the dentist but only the hygienist. I was then told afterwards that I need to come back for a follow up with him for an additional charge equal to the price of the first visit! I confirmed with Lisa my coverage and she for whatever reason, lied to me and told me that Delta Dental did not pay for my routine cleaning. She billed my credit card for the amount. I then called Delta to confirm that they were indeed paid. I had my bank reverse the charges and am writing a letter to the BB. Lisa is the most rude "customer service" person I have ever met. She called to constantly harass me for payment when she was already paid. I tried to call the Dr. to notify him but she would not let me speak with him. What a scam! Avoid at all costs! read more

Dr Brown neglect to inform me that I had an infection in my tooth for over 2 years. Resulting in me having health problems. Did a root canal that failed, leaving me with a deep infection. That has effect my over al health. Billed me for days I was not in his office. He has been reported to the Dental board of California. read more

He is very patient with me (I have some dental fear and gagging issues) and he always explains clearly what is going on with my teeth and the best way to fix it. I also love Vera in his office who does cleanings. She is great. I had been looking around for a good dentist for years. I finally got a decent dental plan and went to Dr. Jonathan Brown upon a co-worker's recommendation. Dr. Brown and the entire staff were excellent... Very friendly, informative, funny and kind to me. I hadn't been to a *proper dentist in 5 years, and was very nervous. They could not have made me feel more welcome or comfortable. After a meticulous, yet painless cleaning, I was given a clean bill of health! A dentist I tried a year and a half ago (HMO... shudders...) tried to ring me up for 3 cavities and some sorta gum surgery... Thankfully, I said "no thanks". Even recently dismayed from miscommunications, etc., truly caused by Lisa to me, a former long time staff (not too long ago), Dr. Brown fairly continued to service my dental care. Only a great person does that! To err is human for all of us and it's wonderful to feel Dr. Brown cared and still, as I believe, moves forward seeing me for dental needs. Went to see Dr. Brown for a cracked filling. I waited almost 2 hours before he saw me. Xrays were taken and then Brown came into the room. He gave my cracked tooth a cursory look and apologized for the wait, He said I should make another appointment for the repair to be done. I decided to find another dentist. A couple weeks later I received a bill for $145. I called the office and asked them to bill my insurance company. They did not have my insurance info - I provided it to them. A month later I received a notice from my insurance saying they paid the bill. I looked at the bill - the insurance company had been billed $260 not the $145 I had been billed. The insurance company paid Brown $204. - $49 more than my initial bill. Today - 6 months later - I received another bill from Brown stating that I owed $66 - $55 that the insurance did not pay, a $10 personal protective equipment charge, and a $1 billing charge. I called the office and was told that they had not billed me correctly in the first place. I asked what if I had paid the initial $145 and they never billed the insurance company. What would have happened then. They had no answer. Plus when I was first there - he told me I had a cavity and would need a crown t the tune of thousands of dollars. When I saw a different dentist - no cavity and no crown needed.This reads like a scam to me - first scamming the insurance company and now scamming me . Don't go anywhere near this dentist if you want to hang on to your money. read more

I have been going to Dr Jonathan Brown for 25 years. I had moved out of state for 10 of those years but about 2 years ago moved back to SoCal. Even though I live in Orange County now, I make the trip up to the valley to see him because he is the best. He is patient, kind, and explains everything he is going to do to your teeth beforehand. His voice is calm and lulling. This helps greatly to make me feel at ease. And he hums while working. :) I can't explain it but it calms me. The people who work in his office have all worked there for many years. This tells me he treats his employees very well. Most importantly, his work speaks for itself. I have had 3 crowns put in, 2 by him and 1 by a different dentist. The 2 by him feel and look like actual teeth. He is an artist and enjoys his craft. Go visit Dr Brown. After 7 years, I have left the Dental Office of Dr. Jonathan Brown, and gone elsewhere. Seven years ago, I moved to Studio City. I had an urgent dental problem, and I sought a local dentist. I chose Dr. Brown's office, because he seemed capable to handle my problem. His office is small, but it appeared to be well maintained. On my first visit, Dr. Brown apologized about his old X-Ray machine stating that he was in the process of replacing it with a newer one. 7 years later, he is still operating with the same equipment throughout the entire office, including the X-Ray machine that he himself apologized for on my first visit. I get the distinct impression that Dr. Brown will be retiring soon. The atmosphere and services have been on the decline over the past few years. Not too long ago, he hired a new Office Manager/ Receptionist, who is adorned with very colorful tattoos all over her body. She runs the office like a tattoo parlor. Appointment times are always late, the staff is neither pleasant nor upbeat. The office is open regular hours for 4 days a week. The Dentist and Dental Hygienist take an additional day off during their shortened work week. The stand-in hygienist is sometimes a very elderly lady who makes you feel proud that someone can still work at her age. Changing dental professionals can sometimes be a hard decision, but faced with a decaying atmosphere, worn out equipment, and incompatibly suited personnel, my decision was not at all difficult. I will miss seeing the colorful tattoos adorned by the Office Manager. read more

I went to Dr. Brown because Dr. Marcus retired and was told that Dr. Brown would be taking on all of his clients. Dr. Brown and the dental hygienists who work there are very kind and professional. HOWEVER, after giving them my insurance and asking what I owe, I was NEVER INFORMED that they were not in my network. Dr. Marcus had always been in my network and in fact, I specifically stayed with that dental insurance company because I wanted to keep my dentist. When I gave my insurance to the front desk of Dr. Brown's office to make a copy, no one told me that their office would be out of network for me. Furthermore, somehow they had a five year old address for me and I never received my bills. Only after 14 months when I moved out of state and asked them to forward my medical records, they informed me that I had an outstanding bill of over $200. Mind you I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months, so I WAS IN THEIR OFFICE after this amount was supposedly due and asked the front desk if I owed a copay or anything for the cleaning and they did not inform me that I had a balance NOR did they attempt to update my address. Now I am going back and forth with the claims department of an old insurance company. This feels negligent and unethical of Dr. Brown's staff to not follow up on or inform me of any of this. Even if they had an old address, they had my phone number. Had I not called for my medical records I wouldn't even know about this. read more

My experience with Dr. Brown and his staff could not have been better. My longtime dentist had recently passed away and I was referred to Dr. Brown by my sister in law. I had a toothache from a broken crown and an inherent fear of dentists. Lisa, Dr. Brown's receptionist immediately put me at ease and a few minutes later, Dr. Brown came out, introduced himself, and escorted me into the examination room where Xrays were taken, and the cavity was repaired. This review has nothing to do with the services rendered when I was a patient there. They were fine. Just be careful if you move away & aren't a patient anymore as they might accidentally bill your account, not admit it, & then send you to collections for services not rendered. I recently checked my credit report & saw a bill in collections from Dr Brown's office for $162. It was less but that was the amount with interest. The only problem was that I didn't go to the office on the date that they say the cleaning & x-rays were provided. In fact, I started going to my new dentist down in Orange County in July of 2013. The bill was from Oct 2015. I asked my current dentist when I saw her in 2015. I had seen her in Jan & Aug....Aug was for a cleaning. I asked Dr Brown's office manager who goes in for a cleaning every 2 months & her response was maybe I wanted a 2nd opinion. Really? A second opinion on a cleaning? Anyway, she put the account on Dr Brown's desk & he refused to waive it as it had been a long time & if I had a question I should had called earlier. Only problem was that I didn't know about it. They were sending statements to an address I hadn't lived at for 10 years! Nobody from the office ever tried to contact me by phone. Office manager's response was that it was my responsibility to have my mail forwarded correctly & was fairly standoffish. At the end of the day, there are multiple patients there with my last name, they billed mine accidentally when another one came in, & are refusing to do the right thing which is to admit their mistake & close the account. Instead, this continues to hurt my credit & I have to take time to write & submit multiple disputes to the credit companies. read more

I recently visited Dr. Brown and his staff for a routine cleaning as I have done regularly for about 20 years. I was first greeted by Lisa, the receptionist and had a nice chat. The office and staff provide a very comfortable environment to have one's dental work done. The hygenist was extremely pleasant, thorough and competent. Dr. Brown examined me afterwards, and I was pleased to hear that everything looked just fine. Dr. Brown has a wonderful demeanor, is extremely kind and thoughtful and a very able dentist.
