I was recommended by a fellow Yelper to check out a new Italian Ice hot spot. I've had Joe's Italian Ice in Anaheim so I had to check it out. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon for dessert. The dessert spot is located in a nice area in Sunnyvale off Sunnyvale Saratoga road. Parking is accessible but limited in the small parking lot out front. The space use to be a Mediterranean cafe. A bar from the cafe is still there. The dessert spot has simple modern decor. It is clean inside but compact. There are plenty of tables both inside and in the patio for dining. There is a consistent long line almost all day but it goes by pretty efficiently. Our wait was probably 30 minutes or so. We ordered a sour apple Italian ice and 2 Jelatis with soft serve and mango/strawberry Italian ice flavors. Everything was delicious and refreshing. My Jelati is a scrumptious mix of soft serve and Italian ice that works perfectly together. The mango and strawberry flavors blended so well with the soft serve. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Jonny's Italian Ice. The staff were nice and accommodating. The price was more than fair. The wait and parking can be a challenge if you are in a hurry. Otherwise it's not so bad as long as you know the Jelati is your reward. We will be back to try other Italian ice flavors and when we are craving the Jelati. read more

There was a seriously long line on a very hot day, but Jonny's Italian Ice was absolutely worth the wait. I ordered the gelati with passion fruit and peach Italian ice layered with soft serve, and I loved everything about it. The passion fruit had the perfect bright, tangy flavor, while the peach was sweet and refreshing without tasting artificial. Together, they were such a good summer combination. But honestly, the soft serve may have been the biggest surprise. It was incredibly smooth and creamy--somehow even creamier than Mister Softee, which I did not think was possible. Wow Johnnys Italian ice!! I've come here multiple since June and their treats are so delectable. Not too sweet as well, such a cooling treat for the summer I've also gotten the swirl, hard shell, with Oreo such a yummy treat if you want something more on the chocolate side! Even if you see a long line it moves pretty fast, there are also non dairy! I docked a star since one day the Shirley temple/Rocket Pop flavor was watery and it got all over my had. It's so refreshing, extremely affordable, and they're extremely kind. Personally I love their sundae and pineapple mango combo. Whether it be a soft serve or Italian ice. It's just really good. Delicious Italian ice!! Definitely get it paired with their soft serve. I tried the mango with the vanilla and was pleasantly surprised by how good this was! I'm a big fan of a similar spot in Sacramento so was happy to see this open in the south bay. The soft serve was creamy and the mango was tart. They have a pretty decent selection of flavors (italian ice + soft serve), and in general, it's not too sweet either! Only docking a star because the parking lot (and line) can get rather chaotic... we visited just around lunch time and it was a struggle just trying to get into the lot. Once we did find a parking spot, the line itself felt very disorganized (and cramped, since there wasn't a ton of space between the parked cars and ordering window). Came by for dessert the other night and it was a decent experience. Jonny's Italian Ice is under the same ownership as Falafel Drive In in the same parking lot. Parking was extremely difficult. Even the orthodontist office next door was full. The like was ~20 or so people on a weeknight evening and the line moved relatively quickly, maybe 10-15 minutes since there were 3 ordering counters. Excellent Italian ice & soft serve! Friday lunchtime is a madhouse for parking because of their Falafel Stop business right across but the vibes are unbeatable! I felt like I was in Santa Cruz on a beautiful sunny day. My work friends and I ordered lunch first to go and the line got shorter for Jonny's haha. Workers are friendly and informative. The "hate" - maybe that's too strong a term - is that since this place has gotten so popular due to social media hype, it's impossible to find a place to park when I want to pick up from Falafel Stop next door. But it's hard not to love the sweet creations here. I love vanilla soft-serve ice cream, and while the stuff from the burger is simply not that great. I usually find myself driving over 20 minutes to the last remaining DQ in the South Bay. But I heard that this place has good ice cream, so we decided to give it a try. We've now been back a handful of times. The first time I got plain vanilla ice cream. It's rich with a very clean and smooth texture and flavor. The second time I got a chocolate brownie sundae, which came with a big chunk of soft and still-warm brownie and a generous amount of chocolate sauce. The third time I tried one of their jelatis. I was really skeptical of this, because while I like Italian ice, I couldn't imagine combining it with ice cream. To my surprise, it works really well. You can request any combination of ices - I recommend magno, pineapple, and coconut for a tropical experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lines always seem to extend down the block, regardless of the time we've come. However, it moves very quickly. To preface, the only other Italian ice I've had is Rita's. This spot honestly blew them out of the park for me. I got the Mango Coconut Jelati. The texture of the soft serve was amazing, and the mango coconut Italian ice was so soft and refreshing. I loved the coconut shavings in the ice. It tasted a lot less artificial than I expected. For the quality and price (around $4 for the Jelati) this spot is excellent! The line was quite long on a Tuesday around 8:30PM, but it moved really fast! The line was about 20-25 minutes long if you're at the end at the next parking lot. Their jelatis were very good! All their Italian ices that we tried were made with real fruit. Though I'm not sure what the swedish fish one they had would have had in it. We tried the cherry, mango, peach and sour apple all 4 were great! Sour apple (had no apple in it) was probably one of our favorites. The ice cream is silky smooth.. the one that was on top of mine looked almost marshmallow like.. For the prices it was relatively good especially in this economy, a large is comparable to a tall (medium size) at Starbucks in terms of size. The parking lot is terrible, there's too many cars and not enough spaces, but also , when you're getting a spot, there's an area where it's hard to get out if you don't find a spot because it's a dead end. They have different flavors of italian ice you can choose from and they also have soft serve, and some other items as well, but the italian ice and the soft serve were the most popular, and I saw a lot of people get the one where you have both together. You can ask for a sample of any of the items before you order. We got the strawberry italian ice and the mango italian ice. Both were very flavorful and you could taste the real fruit in there. There are two menu boards up there and the prices are different on there so it was confusing on what the price was.
