It was super good, buttery, and kind of different from other pastries I've had, so I'd honestly come back just for the bread. The salt breads are so good! I didn't have any drinks so this is just a review of the salt bread. It was easy to find street parking in the area. The shop is very cute. The decor is clean and modern. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 2:00 PM, right before their closing time, and placed our order at the kiosk immediately. There was a sign warning customers to expect a 20 to 40-minute wait, so we decided to head over to Ike's nearby to grab a bite while we waited. Even after 40 minutes had passed, we came back only to find that the people who ordered before us were still waiting for their food. I noticed that even right up against closing time, they kept allowing new customers to place orders, which just seemed to compound the backup for everyone already waiting. When we finally received our order, the food itself didn't quite make up for the delay. The corn salt bread was pretty underwhelming and lacked flavor. Apparently salt bread is supposed to be pillowy like milk bread and flakey and buttery like a croissant. I've only had homemade salt bread before, and I thought the homemade ones I tried had a better texture than the ones here, which didn't feel as pillowy or buttery. They weren't bad, but they didn't feel much more elevated than an above average dinner roll. While I think the salt bread itself is okay, the fillings were actually really tasty. I tried both sweet and savory options and they were good. The strawberry/butter one was a really tasty sweet/savory combo and the garlic better and melted cheese one was also really tasty. However, the filled bread options were also really expensive, in my opinion, at about $6-$7 each while the unfilled ones are about $4.50. Paying about 1.5x more to have filling in the bread felt really jarring. I tried their honey citrus matcha drink, which was very citrus-forward. I can see it being too tart for some people and there was nothing "gently bright" about it per its description, but I was fine with it. I think this is a decent cafe stop if you're in the area. Just tried The F1rst Take in downtown San Jose for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. This cafe specializes in salted bread, and they have more than 10 different varieties, so it was hard to choose one. I ended up getting banh mi salted bread, and it was both visually beautiful (and tasted delicious). The matcha is on the smaller side if you are a matcha lover I would not say it is top 5 in terms of matcha. The tea drinks are better and they offer Vietnamese coffee and they are both decent. It is great that is closeby to SJSU since most boba shops around SJSU is not great. Service is great and they did say it was 25-30 min wait since there was a lot of people. Overhyped. My first take and first impression about this place is pretty mixed. It serves the younger working class folks and students nearby. The salt bread probably isn't for me since I didn't like the dry taste and rough texture. It looks good though. Cashier was very busy fulfilling orders. Instead of paying with credit cards, cashier can assist with cash payments as needed. I ordered via kiosk and waited for about little over half an hour to get my order. No lines ahead of me. Crowds came inside after 11am or so on a Wednesday morning. I had 2x tempura shrimp & 2x Banh Mi sandwiches. All of those pieces were much smaller with much lesser ingredients than expected at $7 each. It really cuts out good nutrients. I was actually more excited waiting for my order, but a bit disappointed in ways after looking at it and taking my first bites. Mixed feelings. The salt bread was nothing close to what I had in mind. Grass jelly latte was $7.99 and guess what? You can barely see the thin grass jellies at the bottom of the cup which didn't even cover 1-inch tall. Not generous. New salt bread spot alert in the South Bay! I was very excited to hear that we had a speciality salt bread shop coming to San Jose. Since this is in downtown, the parking is limited but there is a garage behind the shop that is free the first 90 minutes like most lots in DT. My friend and I came around 9 in the morning on a Saturday when it opened and man did the line get packed within minutes (makes sense because it is new). That being said, the line moved fast. They had a kiosk to take orders and you weren't really able to see the full selection until you were in front of the screen. I want to caveat the space itself has a good amount of seating but since it is new and impacted, it might be hard to find seats at the time of this review. As a note too, the order counter is deep in the shop, so you might be blocked from the tables due to the line. (Might not be the best place to plant yet). My friend and I waited around 20 minutes for our food and drinks despite the long line (I overheard the couple behind us tell someone they had been waiting 40 minutes - but I'm not sure how credible this was). My friend ordered all the salt breads, and I ordered the banh mi salt bread and the tofu matcha. Here are my thoughts (bonus: more flavors since I bit my friend's breads too) Banh mi salt bread: I really enjoyed this combination of savory and pickled veggies contrasting against the salty bread. This is very unique, and I would recommend that you order it to try. Tofu matcha: To be frank, I was so surprised by how much I liked this drink. The silkiness from the tofu went well with the mild flavors of matcha. It wasn't too sweet, it was perfect. I ordered Vietnamese coffee (Marble coffee) and Banana latte/brew for my boyfriend. He loved his drink a lot, but my Vietnamese coffee was just okay, not something that I would come back for. Today we tried their strawberry cream bread, garlic cheese and meat-floss cheese bread. I was actually impressed with how soft and freshly baked the bun was! They put a great amount of cheese filling for all of our breads, and it tasted amazing! My favorite is the garlic cheese one. To be honest, $7 for each small bread order is pretty costly, but I think they used high quality ingredients, especially they were not cheap on the cream cheese filling. I would definitely come back for their other bread choices! Service was not too slow, about 10-15 minutes for our order. Cute new drink and salt place downtown. The cashier was friendly and gave suggestions of their popular items. Ordered Banana brew and Matcha tofu with regular ice and regular sweetness. The drinks were great and sweetness was perfect for us. For the salt bread, we got the strawberry and garlic cheese. The strawberry was good. The garlic cheese is interesting since it is cheese bread but was on the sweet side. Sweet and savory is fine but I think the balance is slightly off. I've seen this bright modern cafe trending on my local Tiktok fyp, saw the cute packaging, and wanted to check it out as a self-proclaimed bread connoisseur. This review is only for the salt bread! For reference I ordered in-store on a Saturday afternoon. I got: - Cheese Garlic - $7.00 - Corn - $6.00 - Original (No Filling) - $4.50 - Pork Floss - $7.00 I was excited to try the different flavors but left disappointed about the quality as well as the pricepoint for the small size of the bread. - Each bread lacked the exterior shine, crispiness, and flaky layers you'd expect in a salt bread. - None of the breads were even a hint of salty. Plain one was bland. and the filling in the flavored ones overpowered the bread with sweetness. - The butter they used doesn't taste like good quality, each bite with the cream filling left an unpleasant oily taste in my mouth. Customer Service: it was busy at the time I went, but the staff was kind at the pickup area, and asked if we wanted it for here or to-go. Inside the store is clean and there are plenty of tables/seating. Parking was limited as expected in downtown San Jose. most street parking was 30 minute maximum Mon-Sat during business hours, which cost $1. I wish them good luck in their business but i think they that their recipe needs improvement. And anyone who thinks the bread is good, there's definetely better cafes to try in the Bay. read more

I was craving some Korean salt bread and saw this place on my Instagram. The aesthetics were definitely appealing and the menu was extensive. However I feel like the actual bread itself is overpriced and not that good, it was a small size. I've had better at Croissante. Pass. read more

Stopped by on a weekday afternoon, and this place was busy and packed! Soft opening review: I ordered original, pistachio rose, and strawberry jam for the salt bread those were the only ones available at the time, along with 2 matcha tofu drinks at 50% and 75% sweet. I've tried a few salt breads from other places before, and I found the salt bread here too too dry for my liking and the bread wasn't crisp enough. I'm not sure if they toast their bread before giving it to customers. There also was not a lot of filling in the filled salt bread flavors. I noticed after getting in my car that my matcha drinks weren't labeled with the sugar percentage, so my friend and I tasted both drinks and they tasted the same. The matcha here is also pretty milky and didn't really have much of a matcha taste. I did enjoy the tofu and I don't see that offered at other matcha places. Parking wise, there's street parking and garage parking. The workers were friendly. I'd say this place is more of a grab and go place, or for you to just quickly eat your bread vs staying a bit to hangout and catchup with a friend. There's a long table pushed up against one of the walls, but it also seems to take up too much space. I'm not sure if there are outlets underneath. There were other interesting sounding salt bread flavors, but based on the three I tried, it was pretty underwhelming and I'd go elsewhere for salt bread.
