The staff was incredibly nice and helpful in guiding us through ordering our meal. They offered us the sample sauces and we were able to pick our favorites. The meal was 10/10 you can always add extra house sauce or spice to the broth, the dipping sauces were also great, the meat would cook very quickly. The restaurant has a cozy feel to it, good for rainy evenings.

For this cold and rainy times we looked for something warm to eat. Met with friends at this place at Joon's . We were seated and was given each our own hot pot to cook the meat & veggies that we ordered. We ordered angus beef & Joon type of meat, black rice, sauce: ponzu & umami- it is delicious! Good service and delicious shabu! Only downside is they have counter seating only so if you have more than 3-4 people it may be hard to converse. They have a handful of sauces and they can give you a sauce sampler to try the different sauces. My favorites are the goma and soyu. Portions are big and the purple rice is refillable. Free parking in the building lot.

Decided to try this place because someone recommended it to me, and the experience might have been okay UNTIL I FOUND A PIECES OF HAIR IN MY BEEF!!!!!!! I had already taken a few bites before I noticed the hair stuck between the beef, which made it even worse. When I pointed it out, they actually asked me if I wanted to keep eating it or get a new pot... which was honestly shocking. Obviously, I asked for a new one. I ordered the sukiyaki pot, which already comes cooked with the beef and veggies together. It took 30 minutes just to get my food, while my friends who ordered the cook your own options were already eating. After they remade it, I had to wait another 30 minutes for the replacement. By the time my new pot finally arrived, my friends were almost done, and I was still waiting for mine to cook. The interior is one long bar with no table seating. The vibe is average for a shabu spot. Parking is inconvenient only street parking or paid public lots nearby. Overall, finding pieces of hair in my food after already eating some of it, being asked if I still wanted to continue eating, and then waiting an hour total made this a really disappointing experience. Definitely not worth the recommendation I got.

I've had better Shabu Shabu elsewhere, but Joon has its own charm. The vibe is really cozy -- warm lighting, round tables, and a family-friendly feel that makes it easy to relax and enjoy your meal. What really stood out to me was the sukiyaki. It was honestly amazing -- perfectly balanced between sweet and savory with that deep beefy flavor. It's hard to find sukiyaki this good, and if you're into sweet broths, you'll love it. Totally, it's a nice spot to come with friends or family -- not the best Shabu Shabu ever, but that sukiyaki alone makes it worth the visit.

It's been a while since I've dined at Joon Shabu Shabu but happy to share that the food was consistently fresh and tasty. Tonight, I was served by Sophia who was bubbly, sweet, and friendly. She gave us a minute to look at the menu and brought out some drinks and took our order. We doctored the broth with the sauces and garnishes provided. I added a huge spoon of minced garlic along with some generous squirts of the orange and brown bottles. The sliced beef and fresh veggies were served immediately along with a side of ramen or udon noodles. You control the pace of your meal by adding protein and veggies and cooking it to your liking. A filling meal for 3 plus drinks was under $100, which is unheard of in this economy. Even on a weekday night, there was a good amount of diners enjoying the same warm broth meal to escape the cold weather!

Ambiance: it's a packed Shabu shabu place in Glendale, two u shaped long tables inside, they also have a parking lot in the rear of the establishment, easily to miss the entrance open to a narrow alley Service: friendly but forgetful, had to remind the sever to get water and drink, also two servers repetitively come to the tables and checked like very five minutes to ask if anything is okay or need to add something, over hospitality caused annoying interruptions to enjoy the meal Food & Drink: each adult has to order an entree, and it comes with assorted vegetables, black rice, choice of udon or ramen noodles, and two dipping sauces, and you can request sampler before making the choices Angus Beef - *** Prime Ribeye, average taste Joon Beef - ** Prime Chuck Roll, still frozen meat served to the table, and bad cut, rubbery texture Ponzu - **** Soy sauce and citrus based Goma - **** Sesame seed based Soyo - *** Soy, garlic, and onion based with a peppery kick to it Ninniku - *** Garlic emulsion sauce Umami - *** Mushroom based sauce that is slightly sweet and savory Kirin Draft Beer - *** light taste Price: decent portions, but totally not worth $50+ per person for the lackluster meat quality

Amazing as always - I always get the goma and niniku sauce. The large meat for the joon beef. I'm so happy to come back after 6 years and see the quality just as good.

You can have a sauce flight to test which sauce you want to get!

The place was clean. The service was great. The servers were super attentive, informative, and patient. They helped explain how to eat there. There are two flavoring bottles that you can use to put in your boiling water. (See image for reference) Then there is this oil and powder you can put on your raw meat. (See image for reference) When you eat, you can eat the meat and vegetables alone first. Then, save like half the meat and half the vegetables to put into the bowl you are are given to eat with the noodles and soup. You can also try all of their sauces before you pick one. Umami: 3/5 smokiness Goma: 4/5 peanut-y Soyo: 4/5 citrusy? Soy sauce-y? Ninniku:4/5 creamy Ponzu: 4/5 citrusy I got the Joon beef: 5/5

I have been a regular here for about 10 years now. This is my favorite shabu place ever. I love that they keep their menu the same. I always get their Joon beef meat and my favorite sauce is their niniku and goma. Other than the food their customer service is what has us coming back. Staff is friendly and always on point.

I loveeee this place! I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Staff for the most part is friendly. They have bar seating and table height seating. I always order the angus beef and the quality/ price point can't be beat. You have a choice of 2 free sauces and rice. I've ate at a fair share of shabu places in LA and I would choose Joon every time!

Always a 10/10 experience! Especially when Jaime is our server. Food quality is amazing. It's never to loud. It's VERY clean and staff is so friendly! We also have had both Vivian's serve and also amazing! We come here often and will never stop coming!

The place area for this place was very dirty with lots of trash & hobo so I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone with small children or come here alone. The neighborhood is really sketchy and stinky with lots of flys. The front entrance was also hard to find and no signs of where the entrance was since good map didn't take us to the correct door. We also spent some time looking for parking but they also have a lot for $2 parking for customers so we just paid. Wished they mentioned that when I called so we didn't have to waste time looking for street parking. Food was ok, there weren't many options to choose from other than a few repeated items. The sauce bar was pretty confusing since their name didn't match where they put the sauce. The portion of the meat side were too little and can only order 4 at a time. We finished our meat just couple mins after it was on the table. It wasn't too busy when we went so that was good. Nothing special or good food that I would come back again. The price we paid for definitely wasn't worth it tho.

After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.
