We stumbled upon this place after walking around the mall. Theres limited seating so it seems like it could be problematic during rush hour. Our server Orion was awesome and explained the menu and understand our dietary preferences. They have a fair amount of vegan options like veggie roll, avocado roll, cucumber roll, ume- shiso, and meiji mushroom roll. The hand rolls were delicious. Perfectly cooked rice and crunchy raw ingredients. I think the mushroom roll would taste better if the rice wrapped around the wet mushrooms so it didn't quickly soak through the seaweed. I would absolutely come again.

We stopped in on Saturday around 5p and were seated immediately. Having never experienced Seabutter (it's listed as Seabutter on Google but it's the same place), we were excited! They have a few options for us gfdf folks. They seem to know the menu well enough to make specific suggestions. I went with the Luxe 3 roll with HYE, negi and truffle salmon. Wow-- each one was delicious and didn't even need soy sauce (they do have a gf shoyu). I was so impressed, I ordered an additional blue crab roll. You have to eat them fast- every second counts as the nori softens. The chefs were really friendly as were the staff. Everyone will probably compare this to Kazunori, which I haven't been to yet but my friend said it's comparable. Give it a try! I'll definitely be back.

I've been to the The Bar by Seabutter in Americana twice and it's been okay. I ordered the toro and uni don and the toro was good and fresh but the uni was a bit bitter. The bowl was also very tiny. I also got the spicy scallop roll but wasn't impressed. It was smothered in mayo even though the menu does not indicate that the spicy scallop has mayo- only the other 2 scallop rolls say they use mayo.

Tried this on a whim this week and was really impressed by quality of fish and the service. I ordered 4 hand rolls à la carte. My faves were the HYE and salmon truffle! Very generous fish portion and I appreciate how they make sure you're done with your current roll before making/offering the next one. The seaweed stayed very crispy! I would definitely come back to try other rolls.

My friend and I came here for a lunch on a weekday. We walked in and we were able to be seated immediately. I love the ambience and the bar seating. It's all very chic. The menu isn't too expensive, which is nice so you're not paralyzed by indecision. You can either go for à la carte or go for hand rolls sets. My friend went for the Taste of the Bar set and I did the four hand roll set. We shared a blue crab don. I say, if you're gonna come here, you should just go all out and do the taste of the bar set. I did the four hand roll set and it came with pretty standard handrolls that you can kind of get anywhere. (if you like predictability then this is a great set.) however if you want to try what The Bar is better known for, then the Taste of the Bar or the Lux set gives you a good idea of their special handrolls. The salmon truffle isn't too truffle-y and the HYE is indeed good. I'd recommend going for these instead of standard handrolls since you can literally get those anywhere. The blue crab don was good but nothing so spectacular that I'd have to go out my way to get it again. Good to have once and it was nice to go back to between handrolls for the avocado bits. But otherwise I'd skip in the future. Nice experience. Cute place while at Americana. They do not validate parking.

Yummmmm. Everytime I shop at the Americana, i'm stopping at this handroll bar. it's affordable, filling, & delicious. You seriously can't even go wrong. I prefer just choosing on of their set-menus, but you can't go ahead & choose all the rolls you want too. SOOO GOOD.

Walked in on a Saturday night with no wait, which already felt like a win. The interior is sleek and modern, and the curved handroll bar makes the space feel intimate but still lively. It ended up being a great date night spot before heading to a movie. We ordered the 6-handroll set. The blue crab was the standout and my favorite, followed by the spicy tuna and scallop, which were both excellent. Salmon and amberjack were solid, but the negi toro I wasn't a fan of. If you're a texture person, this one might not be for you. Overall, a really enjoyable experience. Service was good, pacing between handrolls was nice, and pricing felt fair for the Americana. I'd come back to try a few other rolls.

Love this small sushi place in Americana. They have a small menu, but everything is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place for people who want a light and small meal. Forgot to take more pics because I was busy eating...

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I went to The Bar - Handrolls by Seabutter for a weekday lunch. We arrived around 12:30pm on Monday and it wasn't busy, so we were seated promptly. The ambiance of the restaurant is upscale, yet casual. The service was fine; the chef prepared the handrolls at a good pace and we didn't feel rushed. Also, there's bar-top seating with the chefs behind the counter, and there's only 1 gender-neutral restroom in the restaurant. I ordered the 5-Handroll ($27) set menu. My fave rolls were salmon (fresh & buttery) and amberjack (surprise citrus zing). My least fave roll was spicy tuna because the spiciness was overwhelming compared to others I've had before. I paired this set with the Sunomono Salad ($5), which had crisp and refreshing cucumbers. I'm unsure if I'd return to The Bar soon because there are a lot of great handroll bars with similar prices in the surrounding areas.

Walked in on a Friday night, but it wasn't really worth the hype or the price. I tried the Taste of Bar and added Salmon Ikura, Toro Uni, USC, and Uni-Scallop. The timing of when the rolls came out felt inconsistent. The seaweed got soggy pretty quickly and didn't have much flavor. The rice tasted more like regular steamed rice rather than sushi rice. The Salmon Ikura was especially disappointing--it only had about five pieces of ikura. On a positive note, the fish itself was pretty fresh and tasty. Service was just okay; it was hard to get the host's attention and we had to flag down servers. Once we did get a server's attention, though, they were friendly.

Happened to be in the area and SO glad that I stopped in. Restaurant gets very busy in peak hours and can potentially have hour long waits. I went around 3pm on a weekday and had incredibly friendly service and great conversations with the staff. Food was delicious and very good value. I'm not in LA often but very glad to have experienced.

This place was just okay. Its not worth the amount of food you are getting and it doesn't taste any different that what you could probably make at home having your own sushi night. The rolls weren't filled all the way either. The service was also just okay but they only had one chef working on like the entire side of people and I was seated at the very end so it took forever for my food to get to me

    Vanessa A.

Wow, just wow! Such a classy experience. The sushi hand rolls are absolutely delicious, and all you need is a little sake on the side to complete the meal. I'm so happy I had the chance to try this spot. It's a perfect place to stop if you're shopping at the Americana or simply looking for a unique sushi experience.

I was expecting more refined food but most of cold appetizers were just immersed in a sauce. All handrolls came with a paper thin slice of fish also soaked heavily in sauce and a tiny piece of dry eel on excessively acidic and wet chunk of rice. Korean owned Japanese fusion is trendy and not a bad concept but I prefer more friendly and vibrant ambience.

The tuna don had a generous portion of tuna and rice. It tasted fresh and was a simple and well executed dish that satisfies your cravings. The soba noodles were a surprise to me. I didn't expect the soba noodles to be in a sauce with a string sesame oil consistency and taste. It was refreshing yet a bit heavier as a result. I also love the variety of fish provided with it. Overall (5/5): Disclaimer - we came here late April. But this is a gem in Pasadena that we wished we visited sooner! The lunch deals have very generous portions for the price and we were super stuffed after. We also were quite impressed with the execution of the tsukemono which looked like canned vegetables mixed with mushrooms that were pickled together for an unexpectedly rich flavor. The vibes of the establishment are modern and tasteful, and we really liked how spacious it was. Service was also solid. Overall we hope to be back to further explore the menu!

The menchi katsu was a generous size and was perfectly crisp. Both orders were cooked perfectly and not oily. The curry had a steady mild heat and a slightly sweet undertone, but it was missing whatever provides that umami flavor I love in Japanese curry. Maybe it needed some garlic? I'm not sure.
