As someone who loathes super sweet drinks and food, this was just right. Perfect for a hot summer's day. My dope ass friend and I ordered the spicy garlic chicken rice and shaken beef garlic noodles. The spicy garlic chicken rice is a signature wok dish featuring flash-fried chicken, broccoli, and jalapeños tossed in a bold, savory garlic sauce served over a bed of hot and fluffy rice. It also comes with some popular Vietnamese veggies like lettuce, daikon radish, and pickled carrots. The chicken itself was soft, tender, and flavorful. Truthfully, this dish was mid compared to that of the shaken beef garlic noodles. It was also a pretty hefty portion of food. The shaken beef garlic noodles were hella fire. You would be remiss if you didn't order this, y'all. That's like going to Disneyland during Halloween season and NOT taking a photo with the gigantic ass pumpkin. Tsk tsk tsk. Anyways, this dish had thick, incredibly tender, mouth watering, and juicy cuts of wok-seared beef tenderloin and buttered onions served over generous portions of al dente savory, garlic-loaded noodles. As a fan of garlic and onions, this dish hit the spot. Also, this was a "wet" noodle style rather than a dry stir-fry. The generous portion sizes make it a heavy, highly filling meal. Pho is a great dish to eat at any time of the day. To me, the most important part of the dish is the quality of the broth. If the broth doesn't taste great, then the other food items in the bowl won't taste as good since they won't absorb the flavor as much. I'm happy to say that Mama Hong's has that trait in their selections of pho. The restaurant is in the heart of Downtown Burbank and is close to the AMC Burbank 16. Upon arrival we noticed a busy server that seemed to be by herself. We were asked to seat ourselves wherever was open. We sat by the window at a table that wasn't properly wiped down and seats full of crumbs. While waiting for our order we were getting attacked by gnats. Service is average (because of it being short staffed which I totally understand) and cleanliness seems to be last on their list. They also don't have fountain drinks and soda comes in bottles. I didn't think it was possible to find yummy pho in the valley but it's here. We were immediately seated and our server was very kind. My wife was craving some 'home cooking' on our way back to the valley from DTLA so we swung by Mama Hong's for some Pho for her & our boys, and a plate of bo luc lac for me. We got there at peak dinner time so, as expected, we needed to wait a bit for a table to accommodate all 5 of us. But, surprisingly, even with it being a small restaurant and them being busy, we ended up getting seated quite quickly. Service here was good, nothing amazing, but they did get our order quickly and did their best to get it cooked and out to us as fast as possible. I just wish we had one or two more checkins as we found ourselves in need of some extra napkins and some plastic silverware that's more suitable for our younger boys. The food here was good. For my bo luc lac, it was flavorful and the chunks of beef was large. I just wish there was maybe one or more pieces for the price I was paying. My wife, on the other hand, was really impressed with the pho. She is understandably quite picky on her pho as she grew up with her grandmother making it from scratch almost weekly but after just a few bites she said how good it was. It was one of the best reactions I've seen her have towards pho since we moved out of the greater Westminster area and up to Los Angeles. And if she is going to give it praise, then her word should hold infinitely more weight than anything I have to say. In all, while Mama Hong's isn't the closest of Vietnamese restaurants for us, I know for sure the next time my wife is craving the food she grew up on, she will look for an excuse to come over to Burbank for another bowl. read more

I was looking forward to a nice lunch here. I've had their food to-go before but this was my first time dining in. We walked in soon after they opened. Two things caused me not to order. The first was the pervasive smell of mildew/mold. How can anyone have an appetite after smelling how dingy the stench was? We were asked by the server to choose any available booth. So refreshing to have soup noodles after a day at the warner brothers studio tour. Great food and service here! We tried the pho soup noodle, pork chops vermicelli and shrimp rolls. Doesn't disappoint. I had the pho with chicken breast. The chicken breast is sliced thin and good quality meat. The spring rolls were fresh. Peanut sauce is a bit weak and subtle for my preference. Drinks here are freshly made and served in custom bottles. You pop it open just like any soft drink. This place doesn't take reservations. We came on a Monday around 6:30p in the evening. Mama Hong's , where do I start? I've always loved coming here and am a return customer. The food is always great. My go to's are the Appetizer Trio , Shaken Beef Tenderloin Fries , Grilled Ribeye Steak Banh Mi , Combination Fried Rice , and the Traditional Combo Pho. I got the traditional pho that has (apparently) wagyu steak, brisket, and tendon. Broth not much flavor, the noodles were still slightly hard bc the broth came out cold. Regarding the "wagyu" steak: I honestly don't believe it bc wagyu is supposed to be fatty and would melt in the pho so I think they just say that to justify their high prices. Which leads me to their price. It cost $18.50 for a tiny regular bowl (see picture). Definitely not worth the price. Weird how this place has a lot of reviews, but I definitely won't be coming back. Unfortunately, my second visit wasn't the best experience. When I walked up to the register, two servers completely ignored me. Located right in the heart of Burbank, on San Fernando Blvd., this restaurant is very accessible and there's tons of parking all over the area, so that should never be a problem. What this restaurant offer is a very nice selection of Vietnamese based cuisine They offer all of the traditional things you would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant: Pho, Banh Mi, plus a whole lot of other dishes to suit every pallet. This is a fairly large restaurant. They have very nice booths on both walls, as well as some interior tables. You can also sit outside, as Burbank has made outdoor dining table space available. The staff are all very nice. They are quick to take your order. Plus, your oder will arrive quickly. The only thing that I find kind of weird about this business is that they have a storage unit in their men's restroom. They store all of their chemicals, plus they have locker facilities in this bathroom as can be seen in one of the photographs I provided. Though I suppose there's nothing wrong with this, it just seems a little bit strange. Overall, if you're in Burbank and you want some great Vietnamese food, this is the place to go. read more
