Extremely poor service. We were ignored most of the time and when we weren't ignored the server was rude, snide, or condescending. The only thing she did right was bring us some extra bread for the cheese plate when it came with 3 slices of bread. We had to wait about 20 minutes for 2 glasses of wine. The cheese plate came but they obviously forgot about our wine and did t apologize for the long wait. We were very dissapointed as we had heard so many good reviews and were doing there to cap off an extended stay in the area. We finally had to pull the plug and go somewhere else. 2 hours and it was a struggle to get 2 glasses if wine and a cheese plate. Ordering dinner was out of the question. read more

Executive Chef Sunny Jin and his team are so thoughtful about the menu they put together. I love that they take local produce, local meats and local ingredients. Much of the produce is grown on property. All the dishes are fantastic and sophisticated. A tip: sit in the bar or patio and enjoy great service, a fantastic bar menu (meat and cheese plate is great, as is then Pinot Noir Burger and truffle fries). The bar tenders have created their own signature drinks, so make sure and ask what bartender is working and what their signature drink is. read more

What a step in the right direction for this area. Dinner was excellent and the wine list was excellent. I will most certainly return. Time will tell if this gets upgraded to a 5. I had no problems at all with "the service" and quite enjoyed our waitress, she was just dandy. I had the 3X lamb dinner and it was excellent, served with eggplant and there was ample meat to be had, excellent portioning being the large carnivore that I am... There was this hidden citrus something that was in the background which seemed like grapefruit that made the experience exceptional. The duck pastries with mushrooms I probably wouldn't order again, it just wasn't my style but for mushroom lovers this would be a treat. The squash soup with porkbelly was excellent and so was the venison with brussel sprouts, the venison was perfectly tender and had an excellent flavor profile. They have a real wine list, and that was the shocker. Most places in OrreyGUN believe that the only wine that exists was made here, but Jory has an excellent list, obviously with ample local pinot, but they had some really smart international choices. I was shocked to see a Hungarian Tokaij and a Gaja Barbaresco, in a half bottle!!! I ordered a beaucastel 2006 in half bottle and it was a delight. I have some tee-totaler friends and they have no problem with me drinking, but most of the time single glasses aren't quite what I want and a full bottle is hard to pound over dinner. I hope they increase their half-bottle selection which was already moving in the right direction. If you are an out-of-towner who is visiting wine country, this is certainly one of the better, and more affordable places to visit. Main entrees are around 27-35 and apps are around 10. Dinner for two without drinks and including tip should run around or below $100. Good portion sizes as well make this a real meal. This place was not what we expected. The service was stuffy, they were out of 2 of the wines we ordered, and the server had no idea about the cheese selection. Many people told us the ambiance was very serene, but it was to us very dated. the worst part is that my girlfriend had fingerpirnts allover her water glass. The Chefs table is a great experience if you can get it. The tasting menu is top notch which utilized fresh ingredients and some local rarities as well (Oregon Black Truffles). Where I have had the best experience was with the lunch. Fun to sit at the bar and talk with the cooks while watching them make your food. This is a higher end restaurant, so not inexpensive, and portions are modest, but we found the quality of the food to be excellent. My partner and I each had a starter course, a peach salad for her, pork belly for me; a main course, scallops for her, albacore tuna for me; dessert, flourless chocolate tort for her, Creme Brule for me; and we shared a $60 bottle of Owen Roe pinot noir. Each main dish was accompanied with beautifully prepared vegetables and appropriate starch, and all with some sort of sauce, or pan reduction. Portions tended to be on the small side, although we were both satisfied by the end of the evening. There's a selection of optional side dishes (vegetables and potatoes) available for those who would like more to eat. We didn't order one of these but they would probably work well being shared. The total bill plus tip came to $100 per person, so pricey, but not out of line for this level of food, setting & service. You'd pay more in a major city for a similar product. The wine list is extensive with selections from around the world, but heavily weighted with local pinot noir's. I'm pretty familiar with the local pinot's and found the selections to be a good sampling from across Oregon. These tend to be middle to higher end wines and the prices reflect that but I found the wines to be fairly priced, typical of restaurants of this caliber. HINT: If you're in the area touring wine country and have picked up some local bottles, the restaurant allows you to bring in your own wine (maximum 2 bottles per party) for a corkage fee of $20 . The food celebrates Northwest regional with international influences. We were told the restaurant produces it's own charcuterie (we didn't try it) and has it's own vegetable and herb gardens. We had no reason to doubt this as everything was very fresh and excellently prepared. By the way executive chef Sunny Jin, a graduate from Portland's Western Culinary Institute has a pretty impressive resume, having worked at Thomas Keller's Michelin 3-starred The French Laundry in Napa and at El Bulli in Spain, once considered the best restaurant in the world, and now returning to his Oregon roots to head up the kitchen at Jory. Service was good with wait staff always in attendance and showing up when needed. We didn't click really well with our waiter, but that may just be different personalities. Still, we would have liked a bit more of an informative interaction with our waiter about the preparation of the dishes. The Allison Inn and Spa, where the restaurant is located opened in September 2009, so still relatively new. The decor is modern with lots of warm wood and expansive windows showcasing the view of wine country. It's a large space and not exactly intimate, and although this is casual Oregon, you'll probably feel more comfortable going slightly dressy for dinner. If you're looking to stretch your dollar or for a candlelit romantic evening, there are better choices in Newberg, but if you want to experience regional cuisine excellently executed and complemented with a great selection of Oregon Pinot's, The Jory ranks with the top restaurants in the Portland area. read more

We have stayed at the Allison for the last four years and always have dinner at Jory one night during our visit. It seems to get better each year. It is a beautiful space. The service is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The flavor of the food are enhanced by fresh vegetables and herbs from their garden. The wine selection is huge, but the sommelier is great about picking out a wine to suit your meal. What was great, was that he brought us an extra glass of a wine (complimentary) that he knew would complement our first course, which it did perfectly. read more

We decided to go to Jory for my dad's birthday dinner, and we all weren't very impressed. The menu only had like six items on it and the prices were kind of hard to read. The servers were nice, and the service was pretty good, but the end result wasn't so impressive. The quantity of the food was about the size of a baseball, and I was already hungry again within the next hour or two. It was also ridiculously expensive. The food was good, but it wasn't good enough to pay as much as it costed. I won't be going there again. Not for dinner at least. read more

We stayed at the Allison and ate here our first night. The ambiance is very nice and the grounds of the resort are spectacular. If the weather is nice, try to get a seat outside. Service was excellent. Our sever was talkative in a good way and really went out of his way to understand our needs, educate us on local produce and wine, and make our progression really work. Everything we had was so fresh. The oysters were phenomenal as was the house-made charcuterie board. My wife had the duck and it was beautifully prepared. The salmon that I had was ridiculously fresh and impeccably cooked. It was likely the best salmon dish that I've ever had in my life. The wine list was excellent, as was the wine knowledge of the waitstaff. The food was relatively simple/focused and super local farm-to-table. The resort has a large organic garden on site and you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients. Every dish was seasoned perfectly and cooked to absolute perfection. Lots of attention to detail and technique. We ordered breakfast room service one time as well. You can usually tell exactly how good a kitchen is by its omelette. The foraged mushroom omelette was literally perfect. I very highly recommend this place. read more

A disappointing experience. We had the bar menu in the lounge area. The waiter was slow to take our order and slow to serve. Albeit, there were only two for about 30 people indoors and outside. The live piano music was loud and dull. The service slightly pretentious. The beer was incorrectly poured and had to be replaced. The champagne was the temperature for white wine and not cold enough. The appetizer, hamburger and fish taco were all brought at the same time and had grown cold by the time we started to eat. The breading on the fish was not crisp and the sauce very dull flavored. On top of all this, they collected their dirty dishes on the table next to ours which we had to look at while we were dining. read more

This wonderful gem of a restaurant is well located in a beautiful setting in the Allison Inn in Newberg. The dining room is elegant without being pretentious with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The wine list is a virtual paradise for the Oregon Pinot noir lover. The sommelier helped us pick a 2010 Matzinger Davies Eola Amity Hills beauty which paired perfectly with our meal. We started with delicious Oregon oysters on the half shell followed by the pork belly which may have been the highlight. My wife enjoyed the Wagyu strip steak and I had the duck breast. We added a side of beets. For dessert, we couldn't resist a few bites of the airy light cheesecake. The service was excellent without being intrusive. read more

We have been to Jory four times. Aside from the food, which is consistently delicious (their eggs Benedict is the best you will ever eat), I do not have enough praise for their service. This is what sets Jory apart. From the moment you walk in the door, you are treated with the utmost respect and kindness. The knowledge of the ingredients and food is outstanding. The first three times we went, we were served by Craig and last night we were served by Geoffrey, and we were very impressed by them both. I had both dinner and breakfast at Jory, and I can honestly say that they were two of the finest meals I've had in quite a while. For dinner, I sat at the bar, which offers the full menu. I ordered the gnocchi with sweetbreads. Before my entree arrived, I was served an amuse-bouche of one perfect mussel in a lemon-butter sauce. When my gnocchi arrived, it was so beautiful that I was compelled to take a picture of it with my phone, even though I generally find that kind of annoying. And it tasted even better than it looked--the sweetbreads were cooked just right, with a slightly crunchy exterior, and the gnocchi were amazingly light and delicate. At breakfast the next morning, I had the Grand Marnier french toast, made from brioche and adorned with figs and hazelnuts. The service was attentive and extremely professional. I would highly recommend Jory to anyone visiting the Willamette Valley wine country, and especially to anyone staying at the Allison Inn, where it's located. read more

I always enjoy the food here. This is the kind of place that brags about its water, and you will find the service warm, friendly and attentive. The desserts used to be outstanding but they lost their pastry chef, so not so much anymore, but entrees still deliver. They are artful and delicious, though priced well above other comparable restaurants in the area. I think Subterra or Tina's are both better bargains for elegant food, though only The Painted Lady beats Jory on service and you can't have a quick meal at The Painted Lady. I have found that usually you can find a nice, quiet table here, but you may want to ask for a booth if that matters. Once we were seated at a table and after a few minutes, we felt invaded by a large group of noisy doctors who were seated just a few feet away at a large table. I hate places like El Gaucho because they are almost unbearably noisy, so this is something I take note of. Jory staff are excellent and will help you find a seat you like. The prices are sky high, as I mentioned. If some obnoxious braggart offers to spring for dinner, this is a great place to suggest to them because it will cost them plenty. I had this very satisfying experience just last year, and I swear it makes the food taste even better. ;') One small gripe about this usually flawless place: I once stopped in for a quick bite and ordered a burger at the bar ($20 - nothing here is affordable) and while the ketchup is homemade, I had a hard time getting it after several requests. When it finally arrived, it was a scant couple of teaspoons for my whole dinner of burger and fries. Why this is a problem, I don't know - but I'd rather have enough of the Hunt's from the grocery store than be under served on the house brand of a condiment. read more

Love Jory! My husband and I love to have breakfast/brunch here on the weekends when we can leave the kids behind. We started sitting at the chefs counter and talk with one of the cooks (Amy) while we sip Bloody Mary's and chat over a great meal. Dinner is also wonderful here...in general, anytime we get to go to Jory is a treat. It is beautiful, great service, great food, great wine list. Easter Sunday Brunch was supposedly sold out. When we arrived (early) for our early afternoon reservation there were only half of the tables occupied. Suspect they are playing with availability to look busy. Dining room was large and open with great windows. Tables were drab and lacked any flowers or decor of any kind. Fixed price menu contained an interesting though short list of items. Food was very tasty and portions were adequate and appealing. Wine list was extensive and pricey. New chef did a good job of maintaining the quality one should expect from such an establishment. Service was hesitant and required help from management to provide some basic information. We honestly expected more than just good food at a high price for this occasion. read more

As a foodie who has traveled the world extensively and eaten at several of the most renowned restaurants of the world, I can honestly say that Jory is exceptional in it's food and service. We popped in unannounced on a Saturday evening, not expecting to be able to eat of the restaurant menu, but to have bar snacks. Instead, we were graciouly shown to a bar that was fully set for dining, and handed the regular dinner menu. We sat at a low area of the bar, facing the plating area and open grill of the kitchen. The sous chef, Trent, and his assistant David were friendly and chatty and readily answered any questions that we had. It was like being at the Chef's Table without having to commit to a minimum expenditure amount. Sitting in this spot was so entertaining, I probably would choose it again over a regular table, unless we were celebrating a special occasion or had guests with us for dinner. Upon ordering our drinks, I asked if they had bleu cheese olives for my martini. The waitress, Danielle, said that they did not, but when she came back with my drink she said that the bartender had gotten bleu cheese crumbles from the kitchen and made my olives to order. Going that extra-step in the beginning of our meal set the tone for the entire evening. We chose the Candy Corn Soup, with lardons and crab fritters, and the slow-roasted Pork Belly for our starters. Our main courses were the lamb chops and king salmon. Dessert consisted of one order of soft chocolate cake and one order of raspberry nectarine crisp. Although all the food was excellent, the standout dish of the evening was the pork belly. It was perfectly cooked so that the skin was crisp, while the meat fell apart with the merest touch of the fork. The silky, salty, smokiness of the pork was balanced with a creamy herb sauce and radish ribbons as a perfectly complementary garnish. The least inspiring dish of the evening was the salmon. It wasn't bad, it was actually quite good quality fish and nicely cooked, but there was no "wow" factor upon biting into it. The cous-cous that was served with it was actually more interesting, and I don't usually enjoy cous-cous. This one, though, I would order again. All in all, I highly recommend Jory, and will be returing there myself as regularly as possible. A word of warning, though, for celebratory groups - it is my understanding that tables of eight are the largest that can be accommodated. read more
