I had their breakfast plate and they let me replace the bacon with with veggies Bc I don't eat meat. The staff was kind as well. Definitely will go again. Best cold brew I've ever had, strong but Suttle and smooth (not tart like most) The make your own tacos are great: highly recommend the blueberry sausage with sweet potatoes and egg. You can really taste the blueberry while a mild spice accompanies the bite. read more

This place has consistently great coffee and has generally really nice staff. However on a Sunday Brunch coming to eat here for my first time was really disappointing for me. I waited over an hr and a half for a grilled cheese and a breakfast taco for my friend. Despite the wait they really enjoyed their taco but the grilled cheese was a no go. We want here for a Sunday morning breakfast and the atmosphere was wonderful. It was intimate and quiet, you could tell that they were mindful about their waste and impact on the environment and I really appreciated that! They also have a guitar that you can play while you are there. The food was also good, I had an avocado sandwich and my boyfriend had the pancakes, both were awesome but my favorite thing about the food was the coffee and the fact that a refill was only like 25 cents. Worst service I've had in a long time. I asked for a cup to stay when I saw all their cups are Styrofoam. The barista, who was grumpy and tired said that they were out of cups... and since there were only 4 on the floor, that didn't seem right. Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Inside dining was not offered just a walk up window and outdoor seating on picnic tables. Ordered for three people, spent $30 and waited to get our food 45 minutes or so. Asked about a restroom during the wait and was told to walk across the street to an apartment building because there was no restroom available at the restaurant. When the food finally arrived they served a pancake breakfast with scrambled eggs in a box similar to the ones used for Chinese take out. You must be kidding. They served my two egg breakfast in a box as well. Again, you must be kidding. A paper plate would have been okay, not a box. Ever tried to cut fried eggs in a box with tall sides? Totally unsatisfied. To top it off, the bacon was barely cooked in both of the meals mentioned here. The third person in our party had breakfast tacos. They were fine. Okay, so I will definitely be posting more photos and updating this review at a later date, but this place is AWESOME. I live in Dallas and was down in San Marcos to help my dad move into his new home, so while we were there my brother, (who also lives in the area), recommenced we come here for breakfast. HOLY CRAP! My blueberry pancakes, and blueberry sausage were BERRY delicious! (Seriously though, I dream of that sausage). My scrambled eggs with cheese were also great, but really it was the coffee that makes me hate the coffee I make at home. I got this nut themed iced coffee, (had like toffee and vanilla in it), and I went out of my way to grab a 20oz on my way back to Dallas my last day in the area. So yeah, I was NUTS for it, (hope you like puns). Seriously, check this place out when you get the chance. I will post more photos and whatnot when I return, and I WILL return! read more

Jo's Cafe was awesome! I would definatey recommend it to anyone. I had the breakfast platter and everything was made to order. My wife had a burrito & she really enjoyed it. There were a couple of things that I could complain about. 1. The air conditioner does not provide sufficient cooling especially for a fat guy like myself. 2. I wish the had a "regular" sausage to accomany the meat selections for the burrito. All they had was blue berry sausage. 3. There is minimal parking seeing as tho it is located at the point of 2 different streets. 4. There is only one restroom for men & women that both use. If you can get over these minor issues & you really like to buy & shop to help local small businesses. I would definately recommend this establishment. Extremely dissapointed. French Toast plate was not worth $8.85. Food was cold. Over-easy eggs were so overdone that the yolks were jammy. The French toast was cold and would not melt butter. They seemed to have been precooked because it was extremely hard to cut through the bread (even with a knife). I definitely cannot recommend. read more

Breakfast quesadillas are unique and slap. Coffee is ok but I find that the "off the wall" coffees are usually a little burnt and anything from the counter is pretty pricey. I also dont like that when you get a self serve coffee they dont have creamer, they offer half and half and milk but that's it. Wouldn't be too hard to put out some creamers like every gas station in America. A really great HIDDEN "hole-in-the-wall" coffee place. I love going here because its really close to student housing where I live. The ladies who work here are also very KIND, PERSONABLE and FRIENDLY. I've gotten two iced coffee drinks here and both were EXCELLENT and NOT TOO SWEET. Sometimes "sugary" drinks can be cloyingly sweet, but the ones made here taste very BALANCED. I try to swing by this place whenever I am able--and you should too! read more

Well, where do I begin? When you walk in, there is a menu board with no pricing at all. The medium hot chocolate I got, b/c there is no small size, was very pretty with lots of whipped cream on top but the cup was actually only half full and it didn't taste like hot chocolate at all to me. The girl at the register who takes your order calls you up to get your drink when she could just as easily bring it to you. She called my husband up to get our food and he brought the plates to our table and the food was already cold. The over medium eggs were done right, but cold. The potatoes seemed old and cold also, not tasty at all. She has stated the French toasts world be large slices like Texas Toast but they are regular size bread. The pancakes were a good size, but still not warm at all. The fans in the restaurant were going full blast and I asked the girl to turn them down but she didn't know how to. I have been coming to Jo's Cafe since they opened, and I'm on a first name basis with every barista that works there. It's my favorite coffee place in San Marcos. My personal favorites are the iced toddy and the sugar daddy. When it gets busy, I always admire how hard the baristas work to make sure everything gets out quickly. I'm only knocking off a star because it can be get very hot in there, and there is limited parking. So typically I always take my drink to go. Anyways, I absolutely LOVE this place! The people who work here are super friendly. I love seeing the unique art they hang up and change frequently. The iced coffee, and speciality drinks are so delicious. After my gym workout, I headed here without using Yelp and am so glad I stopped! I was hungry and craving a breakfast filled with protein and unfortunately most smoothie shops weren't open yet. As I was looking at the coffee and smoothie choices, I noticed there were wrapped breakfast tacos behind the glass case! I was intrigued by one labeled black bean, sweet potato and queso fresco ingredients I love! So I bought one (and lucked out there was a 2 for 1 deal) and a blueberry banana smoothie with mango juice.. OMG. when I dug into the taco it was a fiesta for my taste buds especially with the salsa verde poured over it...I devoured it and then took my smoothie to go. Along with Tantra, Jo's Cafe has become one of my go-to stops for breakfast and lunch in San Marcos. It's tiny and homegrown, the people are friendly and the food is yummy and fairly priced. They offer traditional American breakfast items, but you can also special order your own tacos by ingredients. The coffee is self-serve with a nominal charge for refills, or they'll make an array of coffee specialty drinks, as well. Limited seating is available indoors and outdoors on their covered porch and open patio. The parking lot is tiny and street parking is fairly non-existent, so if you can walk or bike here, that's a bonus and perhaps a necessity. read more
