Visiting family. I don't know why they like this place. It seems we always eat here at least once when I visit. The food is not very good. In the past I have had a number of menu items. There has never been anything I wanted to order a second time. This time I asked if the gyro was any good. Family reported that someone has ordered it and liked it. Well, they must have no taste buds. A tiny bit of over cooked meat and some shredded iceberg lettuce on an unheated bland small piece of pita that was just folded over like a street taco. This place is great! I tried it the first time this past week when my softball team went after a game, and it was delicious!! I had the beef roulade, which is beef marinated in teriyaki sauce, and wrapped around asparagus and scallions (I had mine sans scallions, since I hate them). The beef was tender, delicious, and well marinated! The service was excellent, and they even accommodated our odd requests for bags of ice (injuries from the game). The second time I went to Jo's was just a couple of days after my first visit, it was that good! I was with my friends, and we were trying to find a place to eat after watching a softball game, that would allow my dogs on the patio. At first I was concerned they wouldn't allow the dogs in the patio, which I've encountered at other restaurants, but we noticed other dogs, so we went and sat down. I tied the dogs up to the railing, and prepared their water bowl, and as I turned around, the waitress came out, with two dog bowls, filled with water, just for my dogs. I was really impressed! They keep a stack of dog bowls in the back to cater to their canine guests. Not a lot of restaurants do that! The servers were very accommodating in regards to my animals, and even petting them, though my oldest is a rather big dog, that many are scared of, even though he's a teddy bear. Great place for anyone with dogs. Also the service was excellent! There were three humans in the party, and we all had a quesadilla, one chicken, one shrimp and one beef. We all agreed they were absolutely excellent, and very large. Both of my friends had to get boxes to take half of theirs home, they were so large. Overall an excellent restaurant. Thouroughly enjoyed my first experience here. Menu is pretty straightforward, but the execution was pretty flawless. We got spinach artichoke dip with chips as appetizer and it seemed homemade. I got the ahi tuna steak special which was simply grilled and a side of grilled veg. Both were actually grilled and well seasoned. Hubs got Maui chicken sandwich which was tasty. Fries were fries but I've certainly had worse. Daughter got buttered linguine and garlic toast which was definitely tastier than typical kids fare. It's not terrible, but definitely not worth seeking out. The house salad was pre-made and already looking a little tired at 12:15 PM. I ordered it without onions, but since it was pre-made I ended up removing them myself. Next I got the fish tacos, which would have been okay except they were DRENCHED in this god-awful sauce that seemed to be a mixture of remoulade, Sriracha, and mayonnaise. This is one of the worst places I've ever been to. Wings tasted like watered down, puffed up, steroid injected pieces of meat. They weren't even tossed properly in sauce. They just fried them, threw them on a plate and squirted sauce over them. DISGUSTING. Fries tasted like old oil. Burger was OK. The bill ended up being $30+tip after 10 wings, a burger, and fries. This by far has been the worst experience ever. The visit started like a normal visit. I ordered shrimp quesadilla and sweet tea. Once I finished eating my dinner the waitress brought the check. My check was only $13.59. I paid with my bank debit card then reviewed my mobile banking app. I saw that the charge had gone through but the waitress returned to my table and said it was declined. I proceeded to show her the app then spoke with the owner. Their system showed the funds had not gone through however I had an authorization number as well as 13.59 deducted from my account. This disagreement became so frustrating that the owmer demanded I contact Brookhaven Police Department. Brookhaven Police Department arrived on the scene. He was very angry that he had been called because he stated this was a civil matter. I proceeded to a conference call with my bank. My bank confirmed to the owner that $13.59 had been successfully deducted from my account. The owner was livid. He stated that his machine shows that it had not gone through and he wanted me to pay twice. Well you know that I refused to pay twice. He finally agreed to listen after the Wells Fargo representative assured him that the transaction was successful. I am 43. I have never gone through this type frustration in my life. I wanted to grab his neck and squeeze so hard LOL I was so humiliated in front of these patrons.. Lesson learned.. Do not visit this establishment. I will share this with my family and friends. I will never visit here again... also smaller businesses sometimes don't have the Necessary Technology to see transactions in real time. He is attempting to run his establishment with old Antiquated equipment then blame customers for failure. Tried this great family owned restaurant tonight for the first time after living in the neighborhood over 10 years and loved it! Great food. Very tasty. Well prepared and just to our liking. My husband had sea bass and a hot wings appetizer our son had a delicious looking kids burger and I had a grilled shrimp salad. Our friends ordered the chicken wrapped in lettuce leaf dish and said it was delicious too! The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing but still energetic (Saturday night). So glad to know about this place now and sorry it took us so long to try it!! Will be back soon! read more

I never would have considered visiting this restaurant if my friend hadn't suggested it. I lived in Brookhaven for so many years and I never visited any restaurant that preceded Jo's. The building just looks like a pub/dive that would serve greasy food. Jo's almost lived up to that expectation. Fortunately, the menu included a grilled shrimp kabob with steamed rice and a salad, which both my friend and I ordered. We were not in the mood for a pile of grease. The kabob was excellent. It would have been more excellent with more than one mushroom and one small piece of pepper. The rice was edible. The salad was a salad. The price was pretty outrageous for a dive, but service was good. I doubt I will go back, but it wasn't a terrible visit. I can make the same size kabob, rice and a salad at home for about $3.00, instead of $13.00. read more

Jo's is nice little spot for lunch or dinner. The food can be hit or miss sometimes, but my favorites are the chops and burgers. The burgers are especially good. Seating is comfortable for dine-in. Indoors or out on the patio. Sometimes I order take-out and sit @ the bar with a beer watching tv while I wait. And sometimes I sit @ the bar and order more beer and watch more tv when it's done. read more

Jo's has been our go-to local spot for burgers for at least 7 years now. On occasion, we'll get the shish-kabob which is also delicious. My daughter will get the mac'n cheese which is quite yummy but i always have to finish it for her since it comes in a good portion. Service is good - never had issues. read more

I have been going to Jo's for years & I regret that I have never posted a review. This place is rare in Atlanta - family owned, casual, great service by staff that have been here for years (including the cooks), great atmosphere (fireplace in the winter, beautiful new bar, outside patio). The food is consistently very good and they source fresh fish & meats that show up on their daily specials list, at a great price. I've gotten to know Jo & Howard over the years & they are great people. Check this place out! read more

If you hate bullshit chain food as much as I do this place is a nice alternative to packaged frozen dinners. I have enjoyed the sea bass, fish and chips and the ribeye steak salad. Great service and all the food is prepared fresh and served at proper temperature. Full bar and a lot of fun to share stories with the local residences as this is a pure local family owned place. Great find! I love that their menu sells burgers in two sizes: 1/2 pound and pound!! I had the western burger cooked medium rare for $9.95 (cajun fries included). We sat outside. The service was quick and everything came out correctly. It was very tasty and I plan to return. read more

Went here after a reception for a light bite. Three of us shared edamame, nachos, and the Greek salad. Edamame was steamy, with kosher salt. Just as hoped for. Nachos were messy-lots of canned jalapeños on it. Did the job, but not remarkable. Greek salad was lovely - we'll done, fresh greens, good feta, nice vinaigrette. We didn't add any protein. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. Asked for a medium burger. Came out well done. Biggest complaint is this place is a dive but charges over $4.00 for a Miller Lite! That is half of what a burger costs at this place! It cost us close to $50.00 for 4 beers and 2 burgers. If you want ok food not cooked like you want it, than this is your place. If you want to enjoy some time with friends over a few beers and a snack, then this is NOT the place. Manager is extremely rude. I had long black hairs on my chicken wings (I am blonde) and the manager told me they were "hairs from the chicken". Umm...no. Three weeks before that, my friend ordered 20 wings (half sauce and half lemon pepper). 10 were wrong and the manager told her if she drove back she could get new wings but had to return the food. Who even does that??? Their health inspection is already in the low 80's. I will be calling the health department on Monday. read more

Like another reviewer - I really wanted to love Jo's. It's in a great area that needs some more well run independently owned restaurants. The Perimeter Mall area is full of good and bad chain restaurants that are typical for an area surrounding a mall. When we moved to the area, I was pleased to find this quaint little restaurant tucked in next to the park. I wanted to like the restaurant so badly because it was one of the only non-chain places in the area that I lied to myself after several trips but i finally admitted that this place just isn't that good. The inside decor is great because it used to be a Caribou Coffee house - the food is very average and really overpriced for what you are getting. There are only two reasons this restaurant stays open - because this area is desperate for a non-chain restaurant and it's gets business from all the next door park goers wanting a quick meal or a few beers after a softball game. Nothing on the menu is special and seems like a Sysco supplied variation of anything I could make at home with ingredients form the freezer. They up charge a good amount for sweet potatoe fires when the actual cost difference should be negligible. Parking can be an issue but if the food was descent, it wouldn't even be worth mentioning. The service is decent and they occasionally have well priced food specials and $3 Sam Adams pint drafts. My wife and I are actually cheering for this place to fail because we know a descent restaurant could really succeed in this area. read more

Poor service! I had a pink, undercooked chicken burger so I asked for a replacement. The manager came out twice to argue with me and accuse me of making things up- after I clearly showed the waiter the pink in the burger! Of course, friends with me who were all eating the same burger and also saw the pink in just my burger had to prove me right. I had a really nice lunch at Jos. The food was reasonably priced and a little better than expected at the price point. The service was efficient but the indifferent attitude does the chef no favors. I went out of my way to tell our server how much I enjoyed my lunch but she just smiled. I finally told her how much I liked the special sauce on the fish taco and could she tell me what was in it. Her response was, I don't know and I don't care. I just serve. Whoa! Is that what the chef wants from their servers? Typically they offer daily specials including a couple of seafood options that are very good. Entrees are prepared specifically to your order with note of any special instructions. Usually enjoy Jo's with my teacher friends. It's our go to spot because there is something for everyone on the menu. Sadly, today was our last trip. Several of us ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which is awesome. One person's was undercooked. No problem there - it happens. We called someone over to rectify the situation. First, my friend was asked if she wanted him to continue cooking the sandwich she had partially eaten - who does that? She said no, she'd like a new sandwich. She was told it would be 15 minutes because it's made to order. (It didn't take 15 minutes for the first order, but okay.) We all said that it was fine because we were in no rush. We continued chatting for several minutes when the person returned to tell us that he didn't see any pink and they cook the chicken sandwich perfectly all the time, and that next time she should order her chicken sandwich well-done. When we reiterated that several of us saw the pink, he said okay - his eyes were playing tricks on him. Who does that? Needless to say -he was told to keep the sandwich. We won't be returning.
