    Happy Hour food August 2023
    Rachel H.

Super friendly service! Delicious chips and salsa. You can ask for their hot salsa too - but it's hot! We would dip our chips in our espinaca queso and into the hot salsa. That was on point! HH margaritas were good! Quesadilla was a little under-filled, but good. And the nachos were a B- on the nacho scale... they were a bit soggy (to be expected!), and the individual ingredients were a bit underwhelming, but again, satisfactory. Another happy hour may be in our near future!

A classic Tex-Max spot in the area that's always a blast to be at. Most of their meals tend to be fairly Americanized, but they are delicious nonetheless. The staff is always incredible and keeps the place so lively. Jose Peppers has tasty meals and a great atmosphere, but don't expect the most authentic Mexican experience you've ever had. They bring out fresh tortilla chips that are way better than most that usually come out at Mexican spots, but the burrito bowl wasn't as exciting as it looked. It was still solid, but have enjoyed their fajitas and burritos much more.

Happy Hour: I had their steak and goat cheese tower appetizer, which was superb. The chef also made me a coffee with Baileys on this cold wintery night. It was delish! My friends enjoyed their meals and cocktails as well.

Been to this location on several occasions but this time I did carry out and by the time I got it home the food was cold, they don't keep it warm with heat lamps, just sitting by the window. It was still tasty & the Flautas stayed crispy after I reheated them in the microwave. Next time I'll forgo the refried beans and cilantro rice, they're not bad just plain, and get the waffle fries. Espinaca dip is good reheated so no complaints there. I'll definitely go back if just for the dip.

First time I've been to this location and first time I ordered a salad! What a great surprise! I was looking for something light! This hit the spot! Chicken Tortilla Salad! Thin slices of chicken, tortilla strips, fresh greens, tossed in a cilantro lime vinaigrette! There were 8 of us and Shane did a great job keeping up with all our requests!

Such great food, the appetizer has wonderful flavor. I also had taco salad with chicken and it was plentiful and had great taste. My server did a great job. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and it reasonably priced

I took advantage of an email promotion to try this location, and I was impressed. The pollo magnifico periodic Tuesday email lunch special ($4.35) included complimentary thin and tasty tortilla chips, a mild and chunky salsa, a cheese covered chicken-filled burrito, tasty Spanish rice, refried beans, and a small salad. The burrito was filled only with chicken (medium grade), instead of adding rice or beans, which was nice. Everything was pretty mild, but spicy habanero and roasted chili sauces were available at the table to spice things up. The portion sizes were good, except for the small amount of refried beans. The well-staffed service was somewhat cheerful, efficient, and fast. The free chips and salsa were available quickly, and my meal was served in just five minutes. A manager checked in with my table to make sure everything was okay, and the staff worked like a well run machine. The dining area was clean, with lively contemporary background music (not too loud), several TVs, a bar area, and a patio. Very nice, especially for the price!

I got a burrito with zesty chicken, Carnitas stuffed with Chara beans, Mexican rice and your traditional herbs and veggies for $10 with a side of refried beans for an extra $2.79 (I used my own plating for this post). Everything tasted fine , but I will say there was more rice than protein this time around and they were a little chintzy on the amount of refried beans. I was expecting two or three times as much for a full side instead of the lil' souffles worth. Next time I'll probably skip the burrito, kick the beans to the curb and stick with their excellent empanadas or flautas. Note: if you have time to dine in.... they should still have a cool little robot that serves your drinks... The robot along with the staff have always been very nice.

Your bowl of chips is rarely empty for long (especially for a glutton like me) and meals are delivered hot & ready. It's a big space, and when the place is packed, there is a LOT of service traffic on the floor. Wait times are usually not bad and the tables turn quickly with all of the help happening. The food is good, maybe not great. But it's not far from great and if you ordered something that would be delivered hot, then you can be sure that it will be served VERY hot. A plate of carnitas runs about $16, comes with tortillas, and is served very hot. K Machos makes a sensational traditional carnitas plate, and this is one of those top shelf items to try. If you want a taco salad or standard TexMex plate, then you get the good level. K Machos has a great drink menu and great drink specials. Their house marg runs $10 for the big schooner, or you can get several varieties of fruit in a frozen margarita version. Mango marg, anyone? Service is great, location is great, food is pretty good overall, and the drinks are great. It's definitive worth the stop in Olathe.

Their chips are the perfect level of thin and crispy, the salsa is great, and I love the wide range of margarita flavors they offer. As far as the service.... Again, been going here for two decades and I don't recall one single occasion of bad service. It's always been the kind of place where they recognize and appreciate the regulars. It's a good atmosphere! I suppose I should talk more about the food. Again, never a bad experience really. I get one of two things- the steak fajitas, which are good but not incredibly memorable- or the divine chicken cream cheese enchilada. I haven't been able to find it's like anywhere. I lived in Texas for three years and I LONGED for my cream cheese chicken enchiladas. The sauce, oh the sauce..... I always get extra, both for the dish itself and to dip my chips in. I will say that the only downside is doing to go or a call in order.... It is not exactly uncommon to find that an extra sauce is missing. Or, for example, if you don't specify that you want the free chips and salsa, it may not be in there. Just check the bag before you leave, that's all I'm saying. Still, one or two little mistakes absolutely will not stand in the way of a five star rating. I honestly love eating here.

There was equal amounts rice and black beans and plenty of fajitas and chicken. I felt it was all generous and there was not too little of anything. The waiter was very attentive and checked in with us multiple times. I would recommend this location for good service.

And I don't make multiple return visits to restaurants where I don't enjoy the food and the service. The restaurant is tucked away down what appears to be an industrial street where you wouldn't expect to find a sit-down restaurant. Because of this you won't accidentally discover it while you're out on a Saturday afternoon drive. I'm certain the location hurts their business as it has other failed restaurants that have occupied the same space in the past. But if you go to the trouble of finding it, you'll be happy you did. There are a few "Mexican" restaurants in this area of town, but this is a "Tex-Mex" restaurant, which I prefer. I won't go into describing each individual item on the menu, I'll just say the food is solid Tex-Mex. I lived in Houston and San Antonio for a total of 10 years, so I know what Tex-Mex is supposed to taste like. Chapala could definitely hold their own in South Texas. While many items were ok and overall portion sizes were good, it lacked seasoning, especially the quesadilla. It was simply a tortilla with an underwhelming amount of cheese. Didn't even taste like the tortilla was heated up with any butter. Very bland. The tacos we ordered were ok but the shells reminded me of that from a Taco Bell taco kit almost. Sadly a soft option or corn option was not offered to us. Even though we dined around 1230, the restaurant was empty. Only one other table was occupied with guests. The hostess was even eating while working which didn't make for a very welcoming ambiance.
