Decided to try this place after driving by a few times. We decided to grab take out rather than sitting down inside the restaurant. Picked up a take out menu located on the front counter only to realize it was only a portion of the actual menu. We waited for about 10 minutes in the bar area and not a single employee paid any attention to us. Finally we got someone's attention only for them to tell us "We're not doing takeout tonight". The warm loaf of bread with garlic infused butter was by far the most pleasant and tasty portion of our meal. Our meals consisted of generous amounts of pasta, but so little sauce, we were shocked until we realized that both the bologne and alfredo sauces were completely bland. No amount of salt or pepper could help restore any taste even though the establishment is advertised as specializing in pasta. I ordered a French onion soup that also suffered from being bland as well. The salad dressings though were appropriately seasoned. The service our large party experienced was third rate at best. Probably the best example was when my youngest son asked for a different drink because his soda still tasted wrong, but no longer like seltzer water and was told by our waitress that she would "get to it." At that point I asked when my son would have his dinner served since the rest of us were all eating. The waitress responded with a shrill "excuse me?" Friendly and fairly fast service but meal was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered Chicken Cacciatore and was expecting perhaps a bone in leg quarter, as most cacciatores I've had before. We've passed by this place for years on our annual ski trips. The name... Last year we tried it and returned with the whole family this year. It was snowing, in fact it was a blizzard. They were open and we had a great meal. The owner here is and the rest of the staff was friendly, too. They start with good bread and garlic butter which sets the taste buds in gear. The lasagna got raves as did spaghetti in Bolognese sauce and the egg plant was also very good. I had the ravioli in a cream sauce with chicken. It needs the parmesan cheese! Ended up here after driving to two other restaurants in the area and finding out there were 45+ minute waits - during summer vacation periods, all "family" restaurants seem to be very busy at dinner hour, no matter the day of week. We came to Joseph's After a less than stellar experience up the road at a much larger place in North Conway. The Shed is a good name for this spot. It is smallish and not all that fancy but like I have said in a lot of reviews - it is about the food. The place was clean and the staff were very friendly and professional. We had a party of 8 and the worked to seat us quickly. We all had a pasta dish and everyone was really happy with their food. Be aware if there is a small or large as a choice for your pasta the large is huge! The portions were very generous. These guys saved the night for me and the rest of the team. Pretty tasty. We didn't get anything crazy. Spaghetti Combo and their version of chicken parm. It was good. Wait time was accurate for pickup at around 30 min. The main crowd at The Spaghetti Shed seems to be families on their way to/from Story Land. I think we were the only young couple without kids there on a Saturday night. But the food is good. The atmosphere is casual and completely unpretentious! The wait was long. They told us it'd be a 20-25 min wait, and it was a little more, but it was a whole hour before we got food on our tables. You can easily fill up on the loaf of fresh baked bread that they bring to you with your meal, so it's almost not worth getting an appetizer. I kind of regretted that. But the salad was great, because they bring you 4 kinds of dressing, and they were all really nicely flavored. The bread also came with garlic butter that was so good that I took it home to use on something else! I got the Spaghetti Potpouri, which is a huge plate (2 meals worth for me) of spaghetti with 3 different sauces. I substituted out the meat sauce for another, and it was nice they were able to do that. None of the sauces were incredible, but the whole experience and the variety was nice. The pasta was just basic white spaghetti, cooked to perfection. This is a very home-style place, with great recipes. If you're looking for a low-key place to eat, try it. After a long day on the notch train we thought spaghetti shed sounded good so we did takeout. I tried their chicken cacciatore which was so good, really fresh vegetables and you can tell the difference in the local products they use as opposed to store bought. Just left here and I must say, for my first time eating at the Spaghetti Shed, I am impressed with the food. Pros - Nice, friendly and fun atmosphere. The food was tasty, there were a lot of pasta choices on the menu. The dessert menu was a mile long and delicious! Cons - Wait staff seemed stressed and did not interact with any of the guests except to take their order. Service was very slow and the food came out slow (but hot.) The prices for their pasta dishes were also excessive, with the average specialty dish being $14+. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience with this restaurant and would return again in the future. I read through the other reviews and I will chock up the waitstaff experience as just an off night for them, which does happen from time to time at any establishment. My wife and I were in the North Conway area on vacation and as we were there a little before the spring and summer season began, Joseph's was only open Friday, Saturday & Sundays. This worked out fine for us and we scheduled to visit it on a Friday evening for dinner. The restaurant is on the loop / scenic highway around Mt. Washington and a bit out of town, but very accessible. When we arrived, there were a couple cars in the lot and we entered the old house and were immediately greeted and seated to a choice table by the front window of one of the dining rooms. There were many tables of various sizes and both small and larger groups could be easily accommodated. We ordered and along with our salads, we were given a large loaf of very light and airy bread along with regular and garlic butter. The bread was delicious and went down quickly. My wife had the chicken parm with spaghetti and I had the lasagna. The menu includes all the normal options you would expect to find at a traditional Italian restaurant. The portions were large and the food was fine, although a bit bland for our tastes. We centered our plates and each got a good portion of everything. We couldn't finish all the spaghetti! We would visit again if ever in the area and I'd like to try the spaghetti combo with meatballs and sausage to see if it had more flavor than the lasagna. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit I have lived here for 22 years and never eaten at the Spaghetti Shed. Big mistake! This is a wonderful, homey restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. I had a thin crust white pizza, and it was delicious, as was the warm bread with garlic butter. I had read reviews about this place and thought I would give it a try. We were in the area on vacation and this place came up as a place to visit. My large group of ten was easily accommodated with seating, however that is where the positives end. We spent the first 20 minutes trying to get the drinks right and getting an attitude from our waitress who was frustrated with having to get so many drinks. It was not our fault that the sprite tasted like seltzer water and five in our party had ordered that drink. Nor was it our fault that she had gotten busy. I was not impressed that she took her frustration out on my children who were respectful and used appropriate manners when they asked for their drink to be corrected. The waitress kept telling the children they were going to have to wait because she was busy but I fully believe if she had just stood still and listened to them fully in the first place, she would have been more time efficient in the long run. In fact, it seemed as though she was more intent on serving other tables INSTEAD of our table. Next, let's talk about the fact that the drinks were charged individually. There were no free refills and there was no place on the menu that I could see that would indicate we would be charged per glass. What's funny about this practice is that the glasses of soda were filled to the brim with ice and they were in small 12 oz cups to begin with. So essentially, I paid $2 for each 6oz of flat soda. I think it was very poor service to not warn your group that this is a practice at your establishment. Now let's discuss the food. The French onion soup was absolutely disgusting. Although it was the only thing that came to the table actually hot, so it had that going for it. The cheese did not taste right at all and the broth was absolutely tasteless. It seemed as though they served a bowl of hot brown water with soggy bread and melted tasteless cheese. Again, disgusting. The main dishes of pasta had very little sauces. The portions of pasta were HUGE and I mean like a pound of pasta per dish. But the amount of sauce per dish was about 1/3 of a cup. The dishes that had chicken in them (chicken alfredo, chicken cacciatore) there was very little chicken in them. My chicken alfredo had two slivers of meat in the whole dish. All of the meals came out cold too. What was most frustrating about this experience was that the waitress forgot my youngest son's meal and when we tried to get her attention so that he could eat with us, she kept telling us she was busy. Then when my partner raised his voice to get her attention, she very rudely said "Excuse me?!" as if we were offending her by getting her attention. Bland, tasteless, waste of money, poor customer service, over priced, waste of time. I would NOT recommend anyone ever stop at this establishment. Ever. We used to stop here long before Covid and always the night before running the Mt Washington Road Race. It was always a great meal to load up on carbs. Their spaghetti was plentiful, sauce tasty, meatballs meaty and bread homemade. Not anymore. No more dine in, only curbside pick up. I get that, and that's fine. But please...18 bucks for a container of overcooked spaghetti, 3 silver dollar sized "breadcrumb" meatballs and an 89 cent loaf of Price Chopper bread?!?! What a total rip off. I'll be honest, me and my family would snicker at the name of this place every time we drive by it. Having a name like "Joseph's Spaghetti Shed" does bring the most appetizing picture to mind. Luckily, the resteraunt wasn't nearly as bad as the title of it makes it sound. Still, for a family run italian resteraunt with their own homemade sauces and meatballs, it leaves much to be desired flavor wise. Their meatballs are just passable in size and stuffing. Its like they made them with minimal effort. The sauce however was either thick, which I prefer, or too watery. Maybe I'm being too picky though; if all you want is to fill up on some Italian food then this ain't a bad spot. read more

We went to the Spaghetti Shed to have a quick meal, hoping to please two families with young kids. Let me start by saying we will NEVER go back. The service was fine, but the food was mediocre at best. I ordered fettucine alfredo with chicken and broccoli. The broccoli looked like it came from a frozen bag, and the chicken may have, too - it was disgusting bits of something that tasted so bad I had to empty it all off my plate and only eat the spaghetti - something I never do. The worst part of the experience - we sat beside the kitchen, only to see repeatedly that the butter bowls being cleared from people's tables were being recycled into a large container in the kitchen to be redistributed to other patrons or used in preparing various meals rather than thrown away. Yuck! My son got violently ill two hours after eating that night, we believe due to the food he had at the Shed. Delicious, good for the family fare. Meals are even served with a fresh loaf of bread with yummy garlic butter. My server was attentive and friendly. Kids are welcome. Sauces are very good! I am an easy, hungry guy, with two little kids. So spaghetti usually works. This was so bland, boring, unimpressive Italian food ever. Seriously...chef boyardee has more home cooked, fresher ingredients. My family and I were looking for a simple, good, family meal. The spaghetti shed delivered! They have two sizes, the Shed and the Two Car Garage. You get your choice of sauce with the pasta (kept simple by being spaghetti) and it was delicouse. I had the bolognese and it was thick, meaty, and had a very nice sweet sausage on top. My kids had ravioli with a nice tomato sauce, and my wife had a different tomato based sauce which she liked. Before the meal the waitress brought over a hot, large, loaf of bread and two butters.
