Went with a group of friends, all in total we spent $200. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich (figured it'd be a safe choice, practically impossible to mess up). Y'all.. they gave me TWO Tyson chicken strips as my chicken in my sandwich... The chicken quesadilla we got, the chicken was hard and dry af. I went with a group of friends (party of 6) The food was terrible, the service was subpar, the response from management when we told them we weren't happy with the food was rude AF. Well where should I start..... we ordered crab cakes, they were soggy and tasted like mush. We received our drinks quick glad they were pre-made... What! Don't order another one because it won't come until you get the bus boy to ask your waitress (owners daughter) who is behind the bar drinking. Lastly, the food arrived and the grouper tastes like frozen Kroger brand fish. I can see why they offer it Cajun style. The sauce will cover up the horrible taste. Our bill was well over 100. When we confronted the owners daughter she proceeded to give a lecture on how we should voice complaints in the future. SAVE your money and stomach. Btw - I never give reviews bad or good. The staff here was very friendly and took great care of us. The manager came over and visited with us to discuss my food allergy. They did an amazing job and doing everything they could to accommodate me. They are a small, local operation but were so gracious to me and I can't thank them enough. My family and I went to Jose for dinner. my daughter ordered a shredded chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla had several( 6 large pieces) of chicken bones in them. The pieces werenlarge enough that she could of chocked on them. We addressed the issue with the waiter. When we received the bill, we were charged for the quesadilla. I asked to speak to the manger. The manager was rude and informed me that they were doing the best they could do. He was not apologetic at all. We do not recommend this place. read more

Three stars because the food was so good. I'd subtract a star for service. Visited on a Saturday evening and the hostess almost gleefully told us that there would be a 40 minute wait hoping that we'd just go away. We smiled back and told her that would be just fine. She seemed disappointed that we were going to patronize her establishment. Anyway, service was slow, but not unfriendly as we've come to expect on the peninsula. Before Ike, Jose's was a staple to the peninsula. It has recently re-opened, and is as good as ever! It's easy to miss, as their signage is discreet, but keep your eyes peeled! The chips are hot and crispy as can be, the salsa has a rich tomato flavor, with hints of cumin, and diced cilantro. The menu has anything you could want regarding tex-mex fare, and even a few authentic Mexican items! The waitresses are friendly and accommodating, always making sure your salsa bowl is full, a must-have in my opinion! The prices are fair, the food well cooked and high quality, and everything just all around great! If you're nearby, give Jose's a try! We are so glad they are back in Bolivar. read more

We are vacationing on Crystal Beach & decided to try Jose's. We were not disappointed!! I ordered a frozen margarita, and my husband ordered the top shelf margarita-both of us were very happy with our drinks. The chips and salsa were fresh & tasty. Our server was kind & attentive. Our waitress was the worst I have ever had. We were at the restaurant for about an hour and a half and saw our waitress a total of 3 times. The food was good. Not worth the trouble that we had to go through to get the food. We had to speak to a manager before our waitress finally brought us our food. People who were waiting to get a table were scattered around the restaurant because there was no seating area for them to stay. We were there last week. The food was 2 out of 10. More importantly, some of the servers need to be replaced. First, the lady who served us, didn't have the best attitude towards us. Anyway, once we were done, I asked for the check and she took my card and told me we were all set while she was standing just next to me. She basically ran my card right then and there. I was like "okay!" I was thinkin' at the back of my head, although not the best service, I'd still like to tip her, so I asked my wife to ask for the receipt in a little bit. They were a little hesitant about giving us the receipt. Since we asked, they did bring it to us, except with the bottom portion torn off by hands so that the tip amount wouldn't be seen. We had already started walking and told her we wanted to tip her, but didn't get a chance, so I gave her whatever cash I had, which was $10. She looked a little off at that time and said, "I have no idea what....... ......." We didn't know much at that time, so just gave her the $10 in cash and thanked and walked out. Once I got back to my hotel I saw a charge of $115 and some change and the receipt that was given to us (was the correct receipt btw), only had $96 and some change. So, the lady had already put the tip amount ($20) in there. We were gonna tip her $20 anyway, but charging us w/o asking or giving us the total or giving us a receipt is just NOT RIGHT. When we gave her the cash, she didn't even mention that it was already taken care of.... We plan to go to Bolivar Peninsula soon again with family, but not going to Jose's Cantina! My sister brought me here since I was craving fresh oysters and living in the Texas hill country this is a food item that's hard to come by. Boy, was I delighted. Freshly shucked on half shell, sweet gems from San Leon made my day. Plus French grilled oyster plate fixed my craving, pronto. Service was top notch, prices are very reasonable. The other menu items looked just as wonderful with fish, shrimp and of course Tex-mex. Don't miss this place if you are in the area.
