Really great location and cute seating. I had an arnold palmer to start which was refreshing. Waiters were kind. Unfortunately... nothing was good from there on out. My friend had a strawberry smoothie that tasted like dishwater and was 50% foam. She ordered a chocolate chip pancake- pretty simple, right?- and they happily served a severely burned to a crisp pancake. She tried to eat it but ultimately stopped. My banana pancake was really good and fresh, but halfway through I bit into a long, curly black hair. Was super upset about the service and they didn't even offer a refund or replacement for me. Awesome place with an awesome owner, who's also a chef. It's a deli type restaurant so there is take out and Eat in options. They do close at around 3 o'clock so come early. They also serve wine and beer which is uncommon but I like that option. People can have a few drinks during the day for brunch or whenever ;) Huge plates, chefs inspired menu which changes weekly. We tried latkes with tuna, chicken sandwich which was huge by the way, and omelette with veggies. Everything was super delicious and yummy. They even accommodated us before 3 o'clock and we didn't feel like we were rushed. I have had Josh's Deli on my radar for awhile now but never had the perfect excuse to make the drive up to Surfside for breakfast. After running a half marathon that started and ended on the beach this past Sunday, I knew this would a sure bet! The place itself is quite cozy with not too many seats to spare and an open kitchen so you can see the cook at work with the help of only a couple other people. When it comes to food, the menu is also small but just about every dish sounded like it could hit the spot on this particular morning. The six of us all ended up ordering something different (always a win). I went with the smoked salmon platter which is one of my favorite breakfasts. It came with a house made everything bagel, cream cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, capers, pickled onions, and a hard boiled egg. While I enjoyed this lighter option, I also had bites from everyone else's plates (gotta love good friends). Now, this place will teach you a lesson in closely reading a menu. What was written as "Oatmeal" was actually described in the sub print as fried chicken salad with waffles which was absolutely delicious. Besides that, I loved the soft shell crab and pork reuben which was just as savory and indulgent as it sounds. For sips, I had a delicious cappuccino, while my friends raved about the fresh squeezed OJ. This area isn't known to be cheap so this breakfast was definitely on the pricier side than your regular ol' Jewish deli. That's ok though because it isn't your regular jewish deli. Josh is really elevating the classics with a new modern twist, while his servers are super attentive, ready to fill water and coffee glasses at any moment. I can't wait until I have the chance to come back here. Just hope I don't have to run another 13.1 to do it! read more

I've never met a Josh's Deli sandwich that I didn't like! Introduced to this wonderful place October 2016 by a family member and every since, my husband & I have committed to visiting this place every single time we visit Miami! Last time we stayed in Bal Harbor so it was easy for us to come over here a few times. This time we were in Downtown Miami but it was totally worth the Uber to come up and transport us to greatness again! Sadly Josh wasn't there due to spending time w family (so sweet) but we had the pleasure of conversing with Michael (I know I spelled his name wrong) who was fantastic and very interesting to talk to. My husband ordered the pastrami sandwich and I ordered the corn beef. It took me 3 sittings to finish corn beef sandwich! I was still eating my corned beef sandwich 4 hours later when I arrived to airport!!! Seriously!! Lol This deli is definitely an asset to the community and I look forward to visiting again the next time I'm in Miami. read more

I was looking around online on a Sunday morning and found out that this place was open early (8:30) and offered an eclectic breakfast menu. I have been here before for lunch and was impressed with the food & service so this is a brief review update. Ordered the popular Corned Beef Benediction. Nice presentation & big portion as well. Fresh made in-house corned beef mixed w/ potato, onion, peppers, topped w/ poached eggs & hollandaise. A hearty breakfast indeed and worth ruining my diet :) As always, the service was friendly and they are more than willing to explain menu. Josh's reinvents Jewish cuisine and preserve it simultaneously. For instance their latkes topped with tender lox is revolutionary spin but totally works, resembling crude blini. The regular latkes come with large sloppy chunks of softened apples which is a charming reinterpretation of the usual bland applesauce served at your standard deli in a medicinal little plastic cup. We loved the latkes heft and slight outer crunch complimented by a warm inside. We ordered caramelized onions on the side; they far surpassed expectations with a deep flavor they clearly earned the hard way. I haven't had such excellent, soul-satisfying caramelized onions since Veselka ruled the Tompkins Square pierogi scene in Manhattan of the 1980's!) The Pastrami did not disappoint! My family of opinionated foodies is a tough crowd so that is saying a lot. I am dying to visit south Florida again to try more of their bold, well crafted and delicious offerings. And yes, of course they have Dr. Brown's sodas. I must give a tip of the hat to the quirky and 'shabby chic' decor, complete with odd paintings hung cheek-by-jowl that is more at home with trendy coffeehouses than your average Jewish deli! Do not fear that their non-conformity reflects on their gastronomy! Erase any experience-worn assumption that only a Goldbergs/Katzes/Ben's Kosher Deli style ugly look means good food; really, it truly does not require maroon hotel-style carpeting, flecked linoleum, florescent lighting or refrigerated chrome edged glass cases swollen with coleslaw, gape-mouthed smoked fishies and other fine appetizing to be home to what you crave. The time's they are a changing and the Shtisel loving Gen-X crowd expects a different experience than what we boomers associate with mouth watering environs. Yes, Attman's survives in Baltimore, Michigan's Stage Deli has one marvelous location left in West Bloomfield, Kenny & Ziggy's is improbably thriving in Texas, Zingerman's survives in Ann Arbor with some less than Echht crowd pleasers, and yes Katzes will still deliver a salami to someone in the army (they are literally an institution), but lets not pretend that the Jewish American deli as an institution hasn't been declining at a pretty fast pace over the last two decades. And with it goes the American public's exposure to Jewish culinary tradition, which is a sad thing to type out. To counteract that tragedy we all need to patronize the 'Yungen' who are up-and-coming, like the proprietors of Josh's Deli, who are keeping hope alive! Go, feast! you won't be sorry. p.s. Josh's Deli is located in the 9500 block on the east side of Harding Ave in Surfside. Josh's is a small place along Harding in a foot print that seats maybe 16 or so. I'm used to places with a footprint this size in my city but don't let size fool you, sometimes small places can be really good and Josh's is one of those. Being a deli and on the recommendation of my cousin I was going to get a deli sandwich. I often go to delis in NYC and I was hoping for something similar at Josh's. In deciding between pastrami and corned beef I felt like corned beef that day. I like corned beef probably more than pastrami because it's usually juicier because of the brine. The option to "reubenize" the sandwich is an additional cost and it adds cheese and sauerkraut with mustard on the side. The sandwich was mouthwatering and really good. I would have hoped for more whole pickles instead of a single spear and what would have added a nice touch would have been to have some half sours as well since I prefer them to the more common pickles you'll see just about anywhere. The sandwich was great and as far as meat goes I was definitely not cheated. This sandwich while was a healthy serving and a nice treat and change of pace from all the Cuban food I've been eating since we arrived in south Florida. Pros: The food is delicious! Service is professional and swift Location is okay on busy Harding Ave. There is plenty of metered street parking. Cons: How is this a deli? There is no counter service where you can order a pound of nova, chopped liver, or half a dozen bagels. No such animal exists at this establishment. This is a restaurant with deli type dishes, that's it. Make no plans to order black and white cookies, egg salad, chopped liver, or a vanilla egg cream to go! read more

It was my first time here and I was instantly greeted and provided with a table and some menus. Very simple on the inside but has quite a few tables for groups. I wouldn't recommend groups larger than 4 because seating is limited. There's a drippy Ac which is kind of annoying when you have to move your table. I recommend they fix that! So all I can say is you should change the name to Josh's "Restaurant" because this is not a delicatessen. I appreciate you're trying to spice up Jewish food and my friend tells me the more interesting items on the menu are pretty good but the only thing that made that "matzoh ball soup" was that there's a matzoh ball in it. Matzoh ball was very poorly cooked and nobody orders that soup to eat healthy, it should not have kale or whatever in it. Tasted alright but not like matzoh ball soup. I almost got up and walked out when I saw the soup and I really should have and then again when I had to put the spoon through the middle of the ball to cut it. Don't know what I was thinking. Had the corned beef sandwich. That you got kinda right because it was just the corned beef on "rye" but the corned beef doesn't taste right either and the texture is off. Was super excited because the rye bread is made in house but it doesn't taste like the rye you want for a sandwich. No offense but it seems like this restaurant was opened by someone who isn't Jewish who read the descriptions of the food and tried to make it and failed. 2 stars because service was good and the atmosphere is nice but that really sucked. I'd be less picky if this wasn't in one of the most Jewish neighborhoods there is. Please go to a deli in NYC and copy what they're doing for those dishes or change the name of the restaurant. But, if there's only a few people in your group, you can sit at the diner's counter or opt to sit outside (weather permitting, of course). I had the corn beef benediction, which was pretty good. Nicely poached egg, flavorful corned beef pieces that tasty more like beef jerky. Lemony hollandaise sauce on top. My friends had their house cured salmon and three eggs platter, and they seemed to enjoy it. Cappuccino was ok. Not the best I've had. Disgusting food and manager, very rude and aggressive, i was in there with my 10 year old son, ordered pancakes, they were terrible, i told the waitress and she asked me what do i want her to do?? I didn't refuse to pay for them, even though i should have, but instead, i asked to pay less, just to be nice and pay something.. The manager came very angry, scared my son and asked me how i make my money!!! Totally lives up to the hype of its high rating! Just a few tables in a cute neighborhood north of Miami Beach, it has house smoked salmon, house baked bread and more!
