Before I went, I thought this place would be a lively spot. I imagined it as a saloon of days past--like a modern-day party with a saloon theme in the background. But my imagination ran away with me. It is also partly the fault of ChatGPT; it amped me up to believe this prediction and convinced me that the saloon had a lively party atmosphere. I drove longer to get there, as my hotel was 15 minutes away from Joshua Tree. When I arrived, I parked on a dirt road. The parking lot was more of a dirt road situation. I had to follow arrows to find the door, and it was a bit tricky--not exactly easy. I thought I had arrived multiple times, only to discover another arrow. It was not a trek but more of a "walk for a fool" to keep me busy for three minutes. The place was decorated to resemble an old-timey saloon. It was great, but I do not remember all that I saw, meaning the motif was entertaining in the moment but did not leave me with a lasting impression. Now, ask me about the Mona Lisa--that left me with a lasting impression. Okay, the comparison is not fair, but it is meant to highlight what I saw: beautiful old-timey stuff that also resembled swamp-house decor. None of it was particularly memorable. If I try to recall, I am guessing but also vaguely seeing wagons, boots, and neon signs. This place is worth a visit because it is a standard "must," like going to Disney when one comes to California, but the knick-knacks are shelved in the back of my mind, not fully accessible. The food, however, was solid. I ate a bacon hamburger. I was expecting little, but the bites delivered the most: a nice, thick patty, crispy bacon, and Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. I felt like a cowboy eating supper next to an open fire, drinking coffee from a blue-jean-colored mug. I finished my burger and enjoyed myself. I dined at the counter, which allowed me to talk to the staff members, who were locals. I had the opportunity to ask them questions about life in a small town like Joshua Tree. One commented that it worked for him because he liked four-wheeling. Another explained that he was from Yucca Valley. Another shared some thoughts better left unwritten, but let us just say he preferred a more traditional framework to life. They did, however, give me recommendations that I used to great success. Like I say, stop here because it is a must--this place is a main beat of the Joshua Tree experience for a tourist who does not camp or glamp. read more

Joshua Tree Saloon has both outdoor and indoor seating , similar to that of a brewery. I went this past weekend with friends and they had live music and all that you would expect from a saloon. The food isn't top notch, wasn't expecting much from a saloon. I do, however, recommend trying the fried pickles, fries, and funnel fries. Their ranch is also phenomenal (could probably drink that). Their Mexican mule was decent and parking is provided in the dirt lot connected to the Saloon. Service was up to par. This place was just overhyped in my opinion. I was passing through town on my way to a campsite. Website says dog friendly. Called ahead and was told dog friendly. THEY ARE NOT DOG FRIENDLY. Nothing wrong with that, but don't say you are when you're not. The only spot they could be there is no food service, and no staff. I ordered 1 beer. They immediately brought me my check without even having received the beer. Waited about 15-20 minutes in 100 heat hoping to receive it. I literally picked up my phone to call the bar from the patio to see where the beer is that I'd already received my check for was at and while waiting for an answer it was finally brought out. Warm Coors Light draft that had obviously been poured and setting on the bar for 15-20 minutes brought to me on a patio that obviously wasn't intended to be open in 100 degree heat. Choked it down and attempted to check out the old west gift shop area. All shops have no dogs allowed signs. Again, no issue at all with somewhere not being dog friendly BUT the only reason we cruised through was because both the website and the person I spoke to in the phone said they were. It was obvious that they didn't want us there and couldn't get us out fast enough. Couldn't order food, couldn't gift shop... what a joke. We were waiting for the park to get closer to dark as we wanted to check out the stars on a clear night and so we came here for a couple drinks to wait it out and just chilled and talked with some folks next to us. Judy ordered a Cactus Cadillac which she enjoyed w/ 1800 Tequila, Sweet & Sour, Lime, OJ and Grand Marnier. Refreshing and of course the waiter brought Onyx our dog water in a bowl. Since we were from Alaska we get all sorts of questions. We satisfied our appetite by splitting a Hatch Chili Wagyu Burger Med rare and it was absolutely delicious! Plenty of parking and being right outside the Park's entrance it was a perfect watering hole! I had to go inside to order drinks as they are limited to what's served food and drink-wise on the Patio. I hear the kitchen is small so they limit. It didn't bother us as I got to check out the cool dive bar interior. Good food, conversations and good drinks! The Building inside and out was an amazing old saloon on the inside and amazing patio and lots of seating outside. We sat inside and it was really cool! 2. It did not disappoint! The burger was fantastic, especially the chile verde sauce which was flavorful and paired really well with the burger. If you're someone who likes a little heat to your meal (without being overly spicy), this burger is definitely worth trying. Great spot to eat and have a drink. We ended up calling for take out from this restaurant as we were driving into town late and the host stated that the food wouldn't be ready for at least 30 minutes - which was perfect for our timing (it was 9:30 and the kitchen closes at 10). They told me yes, but then seem confused why I would be picking it up after 10 anyways... 5-10 minutes later, they called me and told me the food was ready to be picked up. We went and picked up the food - the workers were friendly for the most part but the environment seemed okay. Went home, asked for sides that they didn't give us. The food was also really greasy but edible. We also initially tried to order a salad but were told that they can't really accommodate that for take out unless it's in a small container (probably half the size it should be). I've eaten in the outdoor area near the band and had a great time. Yesterday we ate inside and the ambiance was less fun. The restaurant is crowded with kitschy things and the servers are constantly bumping into guests because of lack of space. The food, however, is excellent. After a long day at Joshua Tree Park, we were looking for a quick early dinner. Arrived on a Saturday, seemed a little turned around to get in. After arriving in the front, walk to the back, around the colorful bus, and you'll find the outdoor seating. Limited food menu and drinks can be found here.
