I've got two words for you. Don't forget them. Grouper Reuben. When the waitress made the recommendation, I hesitated. I mean, I hate cheese on my fish. Never liked it. But then again, I wanted to try something I'd never had before. In the end, the cheese thing didn't matter. I've been wrong on this (on an absolute level that is...in general I still think cheese and fish don't mix). This is not only a great sandwich, but it's one of the most unique, best fish sandwiches I've ever had. It was served with sweet potato fries, which were quite good, but the design of them somehow makes them cool off exponentially. I think next time I'd go with the regular fries my son ordered, as they are excellent also but tend to stay warmer longer. This brings me to the kids' menu. Both of my kids went with the cheeseburger, which was very generously sized and a decent value. I can't comment on the taste, as I didn't try it, but the kids put the hurt on their respective burgers, and they are pretty good judges of food quality. Even if I had hated the Grouper Sandwich, I'd have had to grade them on the curve for trying something so crazy and original. But this restaurant is an easy five star. Ok, so I love love love Josie's. The atmosphere is like a diner fell into your grandma's kitchen, coffee is always available (even outside while you wait for a table), and I have a love affair with the fruit (they put mint in it, which somehow always works). The biggest issue: it gets very popular (lots of waiting, especially with larger groups and during busier hours like brunch), and parking is a hassle and a half! Stopped by for a quick Sunday brunch. The order for two consisted of an order of Eggs Benedict Florentine, a regular ham and cheese omelet, one single pancake, a cup of coffee, and a soft drink. This order came to $58 before gratuity!!! Upon checking the receipt, the single pancake alone, mind you not a stack but a single, plain pancake, was $6.50. The food is okay, honestly nothing spectacular, and for $58 for a simple brunch for two the price untenable. The cheese grit casserole was cold and there were burned bits in it suggesting it was the last of the preparation, scraped from the bottom. Additionally, the wait staff was pushy, asking if they could take the condiment I was clearly in the middle of using to give to another guest who had arrived after us. Also, there was no ability to customize the omelette, the request to add an ingredient even for an extra charge was denied even though it was available. The ambiance is okay, they serve coffee out of random "quirky" mugs I assume they get from thrift shops, unrelated to the restaurant entirely. I had heard for years about the wonderful quality of Josie's food and finally had the opportunity to try it, with a newly-formed men's breakfast group. I'm a vegetarian and I had numerous choices. My choice was the vegetable omelette, with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. They kindly substituted jalapeños for broccoli on the omelette. The omelette was sumptuous , cooked just beyond the runny-point of the eggs and all the veggies were hot and properly cooked. The potatoes had been cubed (unpeeled, as God intended!), seasoned and browned perfectly. The biscuit was large and cooked exactly right, brown on the outside, with a moist interior. One of my friends who is a real "foodie" suggested we all go here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Hear me out, the food wasn't bad, it was just very average breakfast food for the price of it all. If your cook can't cook they are not a cook. Had a bad dining experience here about a month ago where they appoigize and gave us a credit for a meal. This past Saturday we thought we'd give them another try. Sat at the counter and explained that the last time we were here the burger came out raw we it was ordered medium rare. Sent back and it came back well done but wait the gluten free bun was still frozen. We asked our waitress if we'd like the burger medium rare how should we order it? She said "Oh I'll make a note but our burger guy isn't here". We then asked if they could make sure the gluten free bun was toasted. She said sure. We then asked about their chili. She said "Oh you gotta try it, it wins awards". We'll share a cup. Chili comes out with cheese sprinkled on top. We mix it and both take a bite. It's cold. She comes back and asked us "How's the chili"? Cold. Her response was " Sorry, We try". Food comes out. You guessed it. Burger raw Gluten free bun frozen. We tried to get the managers attention who was right next to us talking it up with some friends. Once our waitress came back to us 10 minutes later after we asked another to find her. Good spot for breakfast. We did have to wait a few minutes to be seated but tables inside and outside under a tent are separated. We were outside and it was cool with a light rain. The tent did have two heaters but the one near us was not working. Some of the staff finally tried to get it to work but were not able to. My boyfriend and I were looking for a brunch spot on a Saturday morning, and came across tons of good reviews for Josie's! We were able to find a parking spot and get seated fairly quickly around 11:30am on a Saturday. There were both indoor and outdoor seating options available. Inside, Josie's definitely has a family owned restaurant feel and was decorated with old pictures and odds and ends. The lunch menu was available when we arrived, but we opted for breakfast food which is served all day here! My go to is always eggs Benedict, so I opted for the Florentine eggs Benedict. It had spinach, cheddar cheese, and roasted red peppers, and came with a side of potatoes or the cheese grit casserole. My boyfriend ordered Josie's Dad's omelet which had bacon, sausage, onions, spinach, red peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers and cheddar cheese. All of the omelets are served with the potatoes or grits, and a biscuit. He has a gluten allergy and was able to substitute fresh fruit salad in place of the sides! Our order was placed and the food was delivered quickly, despite how busy it was inside. Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh! I am normally not a fan of grits, but there's were amazing. They tasted super fresh with the tomatoes and were creamy from the cheese. Our waitress was super friendly and checked in on us as needed. The prices of our entrees were slightly on the higher side (~$11 each) for a typical breakfast, but we will definitely be going back! We even wanted to go back the next day, but the wait was closer to an hour long so we opted for something else. Overall, definitely worth checking out! This is one of the popular places to go for UK students. I remember coming here so many times. I've had their eggs Benedict and the two and two (a standard meal of eggs, bacon or sausage, and a biscuit). Pretty standard. Nothing spectacular. I've also had crepes with berries once. It was a special and it was actually pretty good. I remember not being a huge fan of their coffee or sweet tea... It gets pretty busy on weekends as it's not that big of a place. I've never waited super long for a table though. I've also been once for dinner for a good friend of mine's birthday. I didn't even know they served it here. I can't remember what I ordered but it wasn't a memorable sandwich. The fries were good. Skinny and crunchy. Service is good though! It's a diner type of restaurant. The decor looks a lot like what you'd find in a small town. Interesting color choices for the walls, old pictures and odd decor. This is owned by the same family that own Merrick Inn. They know how to run restaurants. You get some tasty goodness here. I've had breakfast and lunch here and both are yummy. I am partial to the Quiche of the Day. It doesn't matter the ingredients, I've never had a bad one. The cheese grits are my all time favorite! The best I have ever had anywhere. On the lighter side, they have the best fruit side dish around, fresh cut each day and seasoned. I would be amiss it I didn't mention the biscuits and gravy, in a world full of, gravy out of a bag, it is made fresh here. My first experience here was really enjoyable from the food to the waitstaff. Josie's is a really cool place to check out . I love the interior on how they have it set up to the counter bar to grab a quick delicious meal. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. There's a nice selection on the menu. We enjoyed the creamy tomato soup and the little salad which was just right for a lite lunch. The salad wasn't out of a bag either it was very just the right size. There known for there sweet phototropism fries and I can see why!! Delish!! It's behind the Chevy chase plaza but still it's a great location with easy parking. The service was great. We came for restaurant week on Friday night. We're expecting a big crowd and we were correct. The wait time was minimal. Staff got us seated quickly and the waitress asked if we were there for restaurant week and explain the menu thoroughly. Two of us ordered the salmon special and I myself the pork chop. The heirloom tomato salad with the secret family creamy cucumber dressing was first course and it set the bar, absolutely delicious in every way. Our entrees were out soon and we were off and running enjoying most definitely the best meal I've had this year. Presentation was five star, food pairings were spot on and you know it's good when conversations become mumbles of hmmm. Then the finally came, fresh homemade whip cream on tradition bread pudding, the best I've ever had and I've been around the food scene for a long while now. I most likely will return here again this coming week to try the Salmon for myself. I commented to the hostess how generous the meal was as I truly believed this belonged in the higher priced tier category that restaurant week offers. So so so good! I loveeee their brunch/breakfast menu and it's available all day! I'm a big fan of their Eggs Benedict and their hash casserole(side item). Off of their lunch/dinner menu, I've tried their Club sandwich (HUGE portion) and Rueben sandwich. Both very flavorful and delicious - goes perfect with their crispy sweet potatoes fries! I'm iffy about writing this review because I don't like to bash small businesses but it needs to be noted! We called ahead for a party of 7 and a high chair, but they do not take reservations. No problem. We were told a 20-minute wait and ended up waiting for 45 minutes before I walked in again and asked if we can get a certain table that I saw was clean and open. I don't think they would have sat us down if I wouldn't have asked. The hostess was surprised like they didn't know it was open. The server, which I forgot his name, but he was really nice. The food was mediocre, I'm not sure why but we all tried each other's food thinking it was our meal that was just OK. Mainly the whole wait time was just really frustrating.
