Also very reasonably priced in a time where everywhere else seems to charge an arm and a leg for a haircut. This is a quaint salon located near the downtown area of Fullerton with plenty of parking. Not having much money, I took my chance with Joy Barber and it was such a great experience! I've never been able to describe how to cut my hair correctly, so I resorted to showing the lady a picture of what I would like. She took a good look and made her way to cut my hair with her best attempt. While it didn't turn out perfect the first time, I gave her some feedback on what I would like to change. She immediately made me sit down again and went at it. With a few adjustments here and there, she got it to where I wanted and it came out way better than I thought it would! After showing her multiple reference pictures and demonstrating with my fingers exactly how I wanted my hair cut she basically ignored everything and cut it her way. My hair is something I pride myself in, but after this cut I don't even feel like myself :( I am man with longer than average hair, so she charged me for a female's cut, but then ended up cutting it exactly how she would any guy's hair? So I go to this place, and the sign says $14.00 she tells me $18.00 placing the blame onto her Rent. I pointed to her sign & said $14.00 then she says that cutting hair is hard. I told her I wanted a regular $14.00 hair cut as I sat down on the Barber's Chair. When she was done she tells me $18.00 I'm paying with my card so when she is performing the transaction she asks "tip" I told her no and she got visibly upset. Even though my dad and my brother have been coming here for a while, i didn't think about coming here because i thought this place only cut men hair. But when i saw on Yelp that they cut women hair too, i decided to give this place a try. I came on a Thursday morning. Helen didn't have any appointments, so I was her first customer. I don't think they understand how exactly you want your haircut , I was very specific on how I wanted it done from start to finish and they did the complete opposite, I said don't cut my bangs until the end so I can see how short I want them! The whole cut felt very rushed! Maybe about 9mins so she made more than dollar per minute cut cost me $11 when it should have been $9!!! She NEVER used scissors only the blade, I do NOT recommend coming here spend a few extra bucks and get it done the way you want and with time! My gut told me something was wrong and I should have listened to it. My advice is to definitely go elsewhere even if you are in a pinch don't come here. Prices are at discretion of the hairdresser, sign says " $12 Up" for men's haircut and the lady said cause of my hair it would be $14 then I asked if she could trim my beard and it was $8 more, but she barely did trim any and it wasn't even, and that didn't include a clean up whatsoever. I think she rushed because she had an appointment coming up when I walked in but the person didn't speak English good enough that was hard for me to understand. Maybe it's because quarantine and barbers are capitalizing on haircuts, but she also checked my temperature before sitting me down. English communication wasn't the best. I showed her old pictures of my hair that I wanted as per suggestion from a previous reviewer, but she looked at them for maybe 10 seconds then gestured for me to put them away. At the end, the top and sideburns were left uneven and not to my satisfaction. Didn't match my pictures. My husband went for an easy cut and the lady was rude and didn't listen to his requests and did whatever she wanted. His part is now wrong, didn't receive the fade he asked for and butchered the hair around his ears...it's not even on both sides. Believe all the other negative reviews. Helen's skill level is low, and she spends so little time on haircuts that the results have to be subpar. Other stylists with more skill can get away with 20-minute haircuts because they're efficient; Helen is just sloppy. I'm a male and have a standard crew cut. My haircut was finished in about 12 minutes and cost $11 (since she used scissors for a few minutes on the top). The result: - instead of a smooth taper up to the longer hair on top, she buzzed it close to the scalp all the way up. This left an awkward indentation, looking like I wore a cap all day. She also cut off half an inch of my longer hairs by pushing her buzzer too high up - the cut on one side was even, with some patches of long hair - her scissor cutting on top was very course and uneven. It left an odd texture I've learned a valuable lesson today - bad people aren't just worth nothing, they _destroy_ value. If you have a haircut that's any more complicated than a simple buzz cut, be ready to have it damaged in a way that will take months to repair. read more

I showed her picture of the cut I wanted and she matched my cut almost exactly. I also felt safe in there re Covid as the staff was fully vaccinated and she still wore a mask as she was cutting my hair. I definitely will be coming back. If I had driven past this place, I wouldn't have stopped so thanks to yelp once again for another great find. Helen is very friendly and knows how to cut hair as she has been in business for many years and is putting two sons through school. She and her small staff work very hard and her place is open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a small parking lot in the back or street parking in front. After reading the reviews and being charged $29 bucks for my last haircut. Thought I'd give Helen and her $8 hair cut a try. There's a reason I use Homer Simpson for my Yelp photo, yet I think Homer has more hair then me. Helen was quick and trimmed my ears and eyebrows and no extra charge. Even after a 50% tip it's $12 bucks. Helen is the best deal in Fullerton and if you don't tip at least $4 bucks on an $8 dollar hair cut you're a jerk. Thanks Helen see you in two months. read more

Walked in to get a haircut and when I opened the door she was sitting watching TV and seemed annoyed that I was interrupting. Did not make me feel welcomed at all. Onto the haircut. All I asked for was to cut my hair with a 4 clip all around with a low taper on the sides. I even showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted. After the haircut was done, I saw she had given me a high fade instead which is the complete opposite. I would have cut her more slack, however, the whole time she seemed annoyed and rushed the haircut.
