Let me start out by saying that this place is a literal diamond. Poke is one of my favorite things to eat and unfortunately there's just not a lot of places around that can serve up a good bowl. I've noticed that there's been a few more poke joints popping up in various areas (Northampton, West Hartford, etc.) Let me say this - I've been to those places but this is the spot. This is the CLEAR winner against those places. Personally, I love building my own bowl - I like to do a mix of half rice and half salad, then tuna, salmon, and some sort of spicy fish (tuna or salmon depending on my mood). Now here's where the other places go wrong - they give you a TEENY TINY portion of the star of the show. This is where Joy Bowl shines. They make the poke the clear STAR of the dish. That's what poke is all about, anyways. They also have a wonderful selection of mix-ins, including veggies and fruits! The sriracha aioli (spicy mayo) was also very good - the only thing I wished they also had would be sesame oil. We asked and they stated they only have olive oil. But oh well, I can live without it. Anywho - if you've never had a poke bowl before, think of this place as a Chipotle - you pick your base, meats, and then toppings. Then you mix everything up in a sauce and enjoy! Another great thing about this place is how well it's decorated! It's a very cute set-up and they even have a wall for polaroids of guests who have been there before.

My mom loves this place so I had to visit while in town and I could totally see why this is her choice when she's craving sushi. It's pretty much sushi in a bowl. I created my own bowl with brown rice, loads of veggies, and added avocado for a little extra price, but it was worth it. The price point is great considering the quality and amount of food you get.

Poké with shrimp and crab. Yum!

Excellent Poke! No issues here. Fresh, delicious and quick. We'll worth the drive for us. We left the Air show in Westfield and searched Yelp! and found this place. Friendly staff as well!

Make your own poke with 3 proteins and a sweet red chili pepper sauce (not spicy at all)

This cute, clean local establishment is capitalizing on the yuppie poke trend and doing a fine job of it. Friendly folks behind the counter with a plethora of fresh toppings. They offer a 10% discount to college students and military folks - both with ID proof. Seemed to be a good flow of customers grabbing takeout and a few other students opting to eat in the restaurant. I chose to make my own bowl with 3 proteins and a host of fresh toppings. If you are a sushi fan, you'll likely enjoy poke too. Give it a try!

ordered grub hub from them the other day and was disappointed to receive a half portion of a two protein bowl. Food was good but it was disappointing since I was still hungry and I paid $15+ for half the food drowned in sauce.

Since moving back from Hawaii, I've had yet to find anywhere in the area that serves good poke bowls since I'm very picky when it comes to poke. This has DEFINITELY become my new go-to spot! You can get 2 or 3 types of protein along with up to TEN add-ons for less than $12, plus they aren't stingy with their portion sizes! SO worth it. They also offered us free fruit on the side! My favorite is brown rice, spicy ahi & spicy salmon with seaweed salad, edamame, mango, tempura flakes, nori, masago, & unagi sauce/sweet shoyu. I ate my entire bowl before I could even take a decent picture, but I've attached the happy hour specials for those who are interested! They also have punch cards which are 'buy 9 bowls, get the 10th bowl FREE'. I'll definitely be back for my 2nd... 3rd... 9th... & 10th bowl!

I became a huge fan of Laotian food when one of the Thai restaurants in Ithaca decided to shift their focus onto one of the most underrepresented cuisines in the US, and was sad when they closed - unexpectedly - a few years ago. Laos has its own, unique, cuisine, which unfortunately gets lumped with Thai (Laab/Larb, for instance, is Laotian national dish). During one of our late trips we have decided to take a detour and check out SoulLao'd. It was so good that, on the way back, we took another detour, just to dine there. Many people don't know that sticky rice is used as a tool (akin to spoon/fork) to scoop the food out. Again, that's understandable, considering how few Lao restaurants we have around. It may take a few minutes for novices to figure it out, but once that's over, it's all smooth sailing. I suggest that you go for the SouLao'd Specialty Dishes. I had the raw Laab Sein (Beef Salad), and - on the way back - Peeng Lein (Grilled Beef Tongue), both spiced the way it is meant to be, Chef's suggestion ("You want it the authentic way? You got it"). Hubby had Laab Kai (Chicken Salad) both times; I guess he loved the dish. Make sure you ask about Sai Oua; this incredible pork sausage is not a regular staple; being home-made it takes a lot of preparation. ***If you go to a Laotian restaurant, take advantage of how lucky you are to come across one, and do not go for the usual Thai food. If you do, you will miss quite an adventure. *** Service was enthusiastic, attentive and knowledgeable - it is a family-owned restaurant, and Chef's daughter pretty much runs the business. We can hardly wait till April, for our next trip up north. Another detour, just to dine at SoulLao'd? You bet!

The satay was dry and the accompanied sauce had no taste, unfortunately. The soup was low to medium spicy ,enough for me. Aside from the spice, I couldn't taste any lemongrass and the chicken in the soup was also extremely dry. The noodle were pretty good and not to sound like a broken record, but the chicken again was very dry. I wanted to like it.

From the moment we sat down, we felt like we were being rushed. Instead of being able to enjoy our meal, the staff made us feel like they wanted us out as quickly as possible. The biggest issue was when we tried to order another glass of wine around 9:15 p.m. We were told we couldn't because the bar had already closed at 9:30, even though it wasn't even 9:30 yet. That made no sense and was extremely frustrating. And the posting for the restaurant said they close at 10 p.m As we were finishing our meal, the staff continued hovering around our table, waiting for us to hand over our credit card, making us feel uncomfortable and pressured to leave. They had already mopped the entire restaurant while customers were still dining and kept warning us not to slip, which only added to the awkward experience. To make matters worse, we were essentially pushed out about 30 minutes before the restaurant's posted closing time. If a restaurant wants customers gone well before closing, those should be the posted hours not the time guests are expected to leave. Going out to eat should be a relaxing experience, especially when you're paying for it. Unfortunately, we felt rushed from start to finish and never had the chance to actually enjoy our evening. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. If I could leave zero stars I would.
