What a find! Joy Bowl is a relatively new "build your own" poke bowl restaurant in Springfield. The place is at the end of a strip mall with ample parking available. It's a small restaurant - only 5 tables - but they also do take out and delivery. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday night. First you start with white or brown rice or lettuce. Then you pick your proteins. All of the fish looked fresh. I went with the ahi tuna, salmon, and spicy crab. They all tasted great! Then it's on to the mix-ins. All kinds of veggies, fruit, and herbs to top your bowl. Again everything looked fresh (except the pineapple which looked like it came from a can). Pick one of their half dozen sauces to finish your bowl. I went with the ginger sauce. Yum-o! My only negative comment is the amount of plastic they use: the bowls, cups, and forks are all plastic. I think they could easily use waxed paper cups and bowls and biodegradable forks or reusable items (they have metal trays so there must be a sink/dishwasher in the back) to hit the eco-friendly crowd. We just recently moved to Springfield from Japan (there for 5 years) so we love fresh seafood on sushi and poke bowls. So glad we found this gem. First Impressions are huge. This is especially true for new businesses in an area that may not be familiar with your cuisine. I've seen the ad in the local paper and wanted to try it. I checked out the menu online and it looked great. Upon walking in, I was greeted right away. Since I looked at thier menu ahead of time, I kind of knew what I wanted. I went with 2 proteins poke bowl, tuna and salmon and all the fixings ( the jalapenos are actually hot!). I asked for a suggestion for sauce and they recommended the miso spicy. It has a very nice spice to it. For $10, the bowl was more than enough and could easily be split in 2 smaller meals. I ended up eating the whole thing because it was so good! I really enjoyed the fruit cup with your order of the poke bowl as well. I will be coming back and will add this to my lunch rotation for sure! Its a nice clean meal at a good price. I've tried creating my own Poke Bowls and mistakes were made(by me. Lol.) If your no Poke Bowl expert you can take a gamble and ask for certain ingredients but I suggest to just order the Poke Bowls that are on the menu. I do enjoy the spicy stuff. read more

Why did this place not open up sooner?! I've been to quite a few poke spots in Boston, California, and New York and I can easily say this is the best one I've been to in Massachusetts. It easily tops the ones in Boston because not only is it delicious and fresh, but they don't cheap out on the poke portions or try to overload the bowl with rice so that it seems fuller than it really is. This is literally the ONLY poke place that gives you enough poke that when you get towards the bottom of your bowl..there is still poke left! This is the main reason why I am giving them a 5 star. However, let's not forget the toppings. The avocado is an extra cost (like everywhere else), but they give you your money's worth of it! I stuck to my usual toppings of corn, seaweed salad, mango, edamame, nori, and of course the avocado. The sauces I used were a combination of unagi sauce and sriracha aoli. I HIGHLY recommend this! Lastly, the service (specifically the female server) is super friendly and has made our experience satisfactory! I went back 2 times in one weekend and plan to go again this weekend.
