Early lunch today. A friend recommended this place. It had been a few years since her last visit. Upon entering you feel your feet sticking to the floor. Service was quick you order at the counter. They charge for water. You are given a small plastic fork in a wrapper. Food is served in a styrofoam container. The tables were also sticky and the chair legs are extremely black and dirty. The food was ok. Chicken was hot and fresh. Vegetables hard and crunchy. We asked for a knife which was plastic, it did manage to cut them smaller. The rice was premade and lukewarm. The restaurant was getting busier with people picking up to take away. I will not return, not for me! JMO as always. read more

If I could give zero I would. The professionalism of staff is atrocious. I called twice both times the phone was picked up immediately and both times I was left on the phone for over 2 minutes without anyone saying anything. I walk inside to order and bring it up to the person at the register, she laughs an shows me both phones off the hook saying "its busy" the restaurant wasnt that busy. I explained she should of said that when she answered the phone instead of letting it sit on an answered phone call and not saying anything. This establishment over the years has gone so downhill. This is a great place to come if you want to sample a variety of of sushi at a decent price. It is set up like a fast food style restaurant and you order at the counter. My only issue was I ended up with 2 sushi rolls of the same kind because the person taking my order misunderstood what I said to them and I did not catch the mistake until the food came out so you need to be clear when you order. Other than that the spring rolls were good and the Calamari was decent. I really enjoyed the crunchy shrimp tempura rolls the best and the salmon rolls ran a close second. I like that they include wasabi, ginger and soy with every order. This is the definition of quick, delicious hibachi that is so reasonably priced! I have been coming here for years and the quality, service and delicious has remained consistent and is perfect each time. There is plenty of parking in the lot as it is attached to a mini shopping/grocery center. When you walk in there are plenty of tables to enjoy your food or you can take it to go. The line can get rather long but it moves quick so don't let that stop you from stopping in! My favorite and go to is the steak and shrimp plate with lots of yum yum sauce. They ask you how you want your steak cooked so you know it's always prepared when you order it and made fresh! It is so tender and juicy I can't believe the price! The shrimp are large and so flavorful. It is served with veggies and rice which is oh so very filling. The restaurant is clean and spacious and can accommodate groups. We have ordered a few items through bite squad today for the very first time. The steak and chicken hibachi was good but the sushi was extremely disappointing and the wasabi looked like a piece of rubber. On top of that the house salad didn't get delivered and even that we contacted bite squad within 2 minutes after the driver left we were told the salad would not be delivered. They refunded the money for the salad but that's not really what you want, right? There is a reason why you order what you order. A great stop for some quick hibachi! I'm not a huge fan of their sushi or appetizers (I wrote all about that when I went to the Joy of Tokyo on Lauren's) but this location has reliably good hibachi for a low price. You can get a pretty sizeable bowl of chicken and fried or white rice for $5.99 - I added zucchini to mine, so they are good about making modifications. My boyfriend got the steak hibachi which comes with vegetables and they were able to take out the onions, mushrooms, and carrots (he just wanted the zucchini and broccoli). When you dine in you can grab as much white sauce as you want from the bar. It's plenty of food for pretty cheap! read more

I wouldn't even give it a one star if it let me. We dined in on Labor Day, ordered two meals and two sushi rolls. Cost us $60 just to get inedible sushi (smelt like rotten fish) and for all the rice to be crunchy. Oh yeah, even after $60 they charge for any extra sauces. Asked for siracha and it was Texas Pete. Wow , this is just about the worst sushi I've had the displeasure to eat. Ordered spicy tuna rolls and shrimp tempura rolls , they are packed like gas station sushi in little packs with soy on the top. I also got a scallops and steak and rice plate. When we got home, I got steak and chicken and the sushi was just as rough as I have ever had. Plainly terrible , wrapped horribly and no flavor. My children love this place! It's not expensive, hardly a wait longer than 10 mins and it's usually not bad for the money. Friendly service, paper products so clean your table off! Not a place I'd go for a date but a great place for my teenage kiddos! read more

I went here because Sushi Asa is closed on Sunday. I ordered a spicy tuna roll without cream cheese. Upon arriving home I opened the containers and found my roll with cream cheese in it :-(. To make matters worse, it want spicy at all. The sushi rice is not sticky enough and so much is included on the roll that it falls apart while picking up. I hoped the salad I ordered would improve my opinion of the restaurant however the traditional ginger dressing was bland. I'm not a fan. Luckily Sushi Asa is just a short drive away. read more

I ordered a spicy tuna roll- which was rolled terribly, no spice, and the texture of the rice was absolutely terrible, mixed vegetables- which were bland and served in a cup of broth(?), and hibachi steak which was tasteless. I usually frequent the location on Lauren's rd weekly and I look forward to it, but since I live in Simpsonville I ordered dinner through bitesquad. I have no clue how this venue has an A as a food grade, I feel like the tuna from the sushi roll had to be left out for an extended period of time because it was light pink and unusual. I do not like the fact that they use styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. I like the environment and this is horrible for the environment. That said, the food is very Americanized. If you want authentic sushi or Japanese, then this is not your place. The food is mediocre. It is bland. The Miso soup is ok, but not authentic. Great place to eat. My husband and I both ordered the Hibachi chicken and shrimp.. great flavor and plenty of it! We also ordered sushi and it too was fresh and very tasty! The place is good size and offers plenty of seating. The staff is very nice and friendly, food came out fast and hot! I would like to review the spring rolls and the crab Rangoon but unfortunately they forgot to put it in my bag and it was farther than I wanted to go to pick it up... so check your order before you leave...they were extremely busy and I figure that was the reason it was left out out. Pretty average but overpriced Jap food eatery. Ambiance is zero. Seemed clean from patrons viewpoint. We had Chicken plate, Steak plate, California roll Sushi, and Tempura veggies. The tempura veggies were not appetizing. The batter was super thin/ transparent and falling off the food. For almost 5 bucks, we got one small mushroom, one small onion ring, 2 carrot chips, and one zucchini chip ? The Sushi was pretty good, but room temp, and nothing special. The veggies on the plates were pre- cooked and kept warm, and were pretty mushy. The owner can usually be found at one of the locations in Greenville. I like many items on the menu, not just the shrimp. We received a GIFT CERTIFICATE at Christmas that expired on 12-31-10. We discovered this on the morning of 01-01-11. When we went to the restaurant that day, hoping for understanding, we were met with cold indifference. Not only did they refuse to honor the PRE-PAID certificate, when I asked if it was worth losing a long-time customer, I was told it was "...no matter...we have plenty of customers...". My wife and I are 'foodies' in a fabulous foodie city (Greenville, SC). We have lived here just over a year, eat out all the time, and have only had a few memorably bad meals in that time - this was one of them. Food is not good. Had shrimp hibachi, and while I was encouraged by the 'jumbo' shrimp (they really were big), the quality was pretty poor. I ordered white rice with my meal, and it was either over or under cooked - there were crunchy parts as well as pasty parts. (If an Asian restaurant can't cook white rice properly, that's a problem.) When I went up to let them know the rice was bad/asked for some fried rice instead (which was only marginally better), they accommodated my request, but did so with a slight attitude - they didn't apologize/take any responsibility for their cooking - almost like they didn't really care. Went to dinner here with my mother tonight and was very disappointed in the outcome. I love Joy of Tokyo and was happy to go eat my favorite meal. Approached the counter and gave my order, repeated it twice to the associate behind the counter. I did not think too much of it since I repeated my order twice and went to get my drink while my mother paid. I sat down with her to wait for our order, getting up when the order number was called to retrieve it. Immediately i knew something was up because my spring roll i had ordered was not on the tray. So i thought i would just go back up and order it when i was finished with my plate, no big deal. I brought the tray back and sat down, taking a bite of my steak and chicken teriyaki I had ordered only to discover they had given me the steak and chicken hibachi instead. Now to some it may not seem like a big difference but I wanted the teriyaki sauce and not the hibachi, like I ordered. So I checked the receipt and saw he had rang up my order wrong as the hibachi and no spring roll even though I had repeated it twice to ensure it would not be wrong. My mother told me it was no big deal and we could get my order they messed up and put it in a box to take home for my father. So I go back up to order what I actually wanted and I check the receipt when it is given to me and it is correct on the ticket so I sit back down to wait for it to be ready. When they call my order number, I go up and get it, hoping this time it would be correct. Everything looked right and I had received the spring roll I ordered this time. So I sit down to eat and I take a bite and it tastes the same as the last plate. The receipt was correct but they had once again given me the hibachi. I take my plate up to the counter and tell them that I had ordered the teriyaki instead of hibachi, so they take my plate and return it to me with teriyaki sauce poured all over the meat and vegetables without saying a word to me. I am very disappointed because I love eating at this restaurant but was unhappy with how many times my order was not correct. read more

I used to frequently visit. Always had exceptional service and food. Until recently new staff has been hired. Called to place order and the person that answered apparently didnt know where they were working said a different restaurant name then said joy of tokyo laughed and hung up. When. Arriving cashier was rude and not trained properly had to tell him phone number repeatedly also was rude made faces constantly. Unprofessional and took almost 10 minutes for him to find order. He was getting frustrated and took it out on us rather then asking for help. Someone came over to help finally but cashier still wasn't listening or paying attention took an additional few minutes . While food sat and got cold. Food is great. Service is very distasteful. I've worked in restaurant And understand people have to learn some how. So I feel that this falls on management for improperly training or not training enough. read more
