    lomo saltado

I stopped by to grab food to go. I live nearby and luckily this was near the workout place I was at. This is the literal definition of a hole in the wall, located next to Superior grocers. Parking is not difficult at all! Staff here were really nice. I was allowed to sit down at their dining tables while waiting for their food. I was quoted 5 mins for lomo saltado, which I thought was pretty fast. Rest of the transaction was seamless. The togo portion was enough to feed TWO PEOPLE. They pack it down with an equal amount of fries, beef, and it was saucy. The rice was just a single person portion, but luckily I have enough at home to share. Food itself was amazing with the verde aji sauce, but I do wish they gave more than one. I don't eat Peruvian often, but I'm happy to see a local shop on this part of town serving up Chifa.

I was craving for lomo saltado, and was searching for a place in the area. I found this place with great reviews, decided to come by. It is located on Garvey Ave in the same plaza of a grocery store. Parking was easy. The decoration gave me a little Asian vibes to it. The owner is a very kind man. He is very friendly and welcoming. He offered all the customers with free drinks or soda. He speaks English, Spanish, Cantonese, and mandarin. I am amazed by that. Salute. We ordered 2 lomo saltado, and it is the best lomo saltado I have had so far. He uses beef slices instead of steak chunk. However, no where I have been can beat the taste of it. The beef was tender and juice, and the fries were crispy! I will come back to support small business again!

Staff was very friendly and helpful; they speak Spanish of course. Inside the restaurant, they had about 5-6 large tables that fit probably 8 people a table. They're located on the outskirts of a plaza that is a little run down. Food is fantastic and authentic. I had some things that I love (like tallarín con carne and maracuyá) and tried some new items (like chupe de camarón and sudado pescado). Sad to say that the desserts (flan and lucuma) ran out, so maybe call in advance if that's something you're coming specifically for. (**This is also posted in Chifa Joy [this is the name on the outside of the restaurant], as it seems there's 2 Yelp pages.)

What a find... not expecting this in El Monte. Pescado à la macho was good... Jalea was excellent... tartar sauce was perfect. Hubby said Lomo Saltado was good. The Maracuya was fantastic... and she refilled for free. The complimentary chips and amazing sauce were fantastic!! Service was great. Very surprised we were the only customers on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was easy. Only issue was the parking lot/area is very sketchy. Lots of homeless. But I will definitely be back. Yummmmmm

I am so pleasantly surprised about this new place! I needed food catered for a small party. I contacted them and they are newly opened so they got back to me with catering prices. Food was done on time to perfection! My whole family was very happy with our food. We ordered lomo saltado, chaufa de pollo, tallarin verde, chicken fingers and fries for the kids. Service was excellent and I plan to go back to eat at their restaurant soon!

The food is amazing! We had the leche de Tigre to start - Peruvian ceviche Then we ordered the yuquita frita - Peruvian French fries Followed by the Arroz chaufa de pollo - fried rice And the lomo saltado ! Bomb ! Your green sauce is amazing ! The red sauce is really spicy but so much flavor! A MUST TRY PLACE

A hole in the wall gem! Great service, good food. Definitely not your average Peruvian food. Has some Chinese inspiration to the food.

You know when you walk into a place and see the menu you just have a feeling it's gonna be the best food you've ever had? That's how I felt when I got here. And GOODNESS was I SO DAMN CORRECT!! We had the chupe de camaron, a shrimp and corn chowder with a delicious broth (as a soup girl I was very happy) Lomo saltado comes with white rice but they gave us fried instead because they ran out and it smelled FRICKING DELICIOUS when it arrived. The fried tomatoes and onions were made to perfection as well as the meat being incredibly favorful and the rice was fragrant and yummy. Gotta get a thesaurus out! The last dish we ordered was tallarín verde con bistec and HOLY FRICKING MOLY. I love me some pesto but this is better than any Italian restaurant I've ever been to. we haven't even finished eating and I'm already texting my friends and family saying I need to take them here. And the meat had some chopped and cooked cilantro and green onions toppings that just complemented the flavor so well And now we're about to dig into our lucuma ice cream and I'm so excited!! If you want Peruvian food, go no where else. PS The vibe and ambiance is very family style cozy The service was fantastic they really took care of us ^_^

Feel free to ask for special spicy sauce.

First time trying Peruvian food, and its great food. I extremely recommend. Unique taste and excellent service. Deli, Deli

Amazing experience from start to finish. We ordered the jalea mixta, chaufa aeropuerto, and ceviche de pescado, and every single dish was outstanding. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and perfectly balanced exactly what you want from Peruvian food. Portions were generous and the seafood was top quality. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal. On top of that, the service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back and highly recommend this place if you're craving real Peruvian cuisine.

I'm Ecuadorian, and I absolutely love Peruvian food. My brother told me about this place, and I truly fell in love with it! The Caldo de Pollo was an off-menu exception made just for me, which made the experience even more special. Everything was delicious, authentic, and full of flavor. I highly recommend this place. Come and enjoy this amazing food!

Papa relleña, choros a la chalaca, chicha morada
    Emily M.

The food and service was great and quick! My mom's Peruvian and knows tasty food when she tries it so we decided to give this place a try. We came for lunch and shared choros a la chalaca and papa relleña. Our favorite was the choros and the papa was flavorful and a big enough portion enough to take some home. We'll be back to try their other goodies.Muy Rico.

The menu had so many different options that I had a hard time deciding between the soups, traditional meat dishes, and pasta selections. I ended up ordering a pasta dish that surprisingly had an Asian-inspired flavor profile. It reminded me a bit of Kung Pao chicken with linguini, thanks to the red and green bell peppers, onions, and a nice kick of spice. It was delicious, especially with the house-made green salsa they served on the side. I also ordered a side of rice and beans, and although I passed on the plantains since I was dining solo, the server kindly brought me a sample, which was such a thoughtful touch. This is a cozy, mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall spot with a mix of two- and four-top tables. Parking was easy, and I found a space right in front. I stopped by just before closing, and there were still a few people enjoying dinner. Expect to spend around $30 per person. Overall, I enjoyed the food and friendly service, and I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

We almost didn't make it through the front door, but I'm glad we did…read more When we first pulled up, the restaurant honestly looked closed. It was dark, empty, and not very welcoming from the outside. My wife and son were ready to go somewhere else, but I was determined to find some good ceviche and try Peruvian food. We walked a little farther and found another door with an "OPEN" sign, went inside, and sure enough--they were open. The food ended up being the reason I'm glad we stayed. I ordered the fish ceviche ($20.95), and it was really, really good. The fish tasted fresh and high quality, with nice-sized chunks and plenty of lime--which I personally love. The onions were great, and the potato on the side was surprisingly good. I actually wish they had given me a little more of it. The crunchy Peruvian corn was a nice addition, and even the little pieces of plantain were good, and I'm normally not a plantain person. My wife had the shrimp ceviche ($22.95). The shrimp were whole and tasted fresh, and the pickled onions were really good. It was definitely very lime-forward. She felt it could have used another ingredient or two, maybe something like cucumber, although that may just be because she's more accustomed to Mexican-style ceviche. For the price, she also expected a little more on the plate, but overall she thought it was very good. Our son had a chicken plate with a thin, well-seasoned chicken cutlet, egg, fries and white rice. He loved it and gave it a 10/10. Even the complimentary toasted bread was excellent--warm enough that we finished the whole basket. The biggest thing holding this place back is the service and overall atmosphere. The lady helping us was very nice, but the experience just felt a little strange and slow. We were literally the only people dining in the restaurant, aside from someone who came in to pick up an order, and it still took around 40 minutes to receive our food. With a toddler, that's a long time to wait. We also ordered Modelos with lime and salted rims. Mine was fine, but my wife's beer was warm and she ended up asking for ice. That said, it looks like a small, possibly family-run operation with only a few people working, and the food definitely tasted freshly prepared. So I can appreciate that good ceviche isn't necessarily coming out of the kitchen in five minutes. Overall, we WILL be back because the food was genuinely good. I just think they could have something really special here if they improved the service, made the restaurant look more obviously open and welcoming from outside, improve the vibe and tightened up the wait times. Fix those things and this could be a really nice little hidden gem in Uptown. The ceviche alone is worth coming back for.

Decently sized portions that left 2 hungry adults full and we had some left over to go as well. The restaurant is a bit small, but can fit lots of seats and tables inside. It can get cramped just by positioning of chairs, etc., but no biggie when we went, just keep this in mind for rush hour. Didn't take too long for our food to come out. For our visit, we got the classics: 1) Lomo Saltado: -Deliciously seasoned and moist pieces of lean beef with sauteed onions, tomatoes, with fries and rice. -I usually don't like sauteed veggies, but the slight char and the sweetness went so deliciously well with the umami of the beef and the double carbs of the rice and the fries are just so deliciously indulgent with the salty combo of the proteins. -Love, love, LOVE the Aji and Chimichurri sauces that they have here too. Truly the pinnacle of this type of cuisine and adds such a delicious burst of flavor to an already flavorful dish. 2) Chaufa de Pollo: -Simple chicken fried rice with onions and some scrambled eggs and bits of chicken. Some chicken bits were a tad dry and the rice was a little oily, but not too big of a deal since this was a very indulgent lunch for us. Would love to come back again to try more of their menu.
