Here's what we got, based on other reviews, and they were not wrong! Mango and Squid salad - get this, get this, get this!! Perfect balance of the grilled squid, green mango, apples and citrus dressing. Oh yeah, love the prawn chips on top too . Childhood memories of good prawn chips. Grilled Scallops with salted egg, garlic oil, and scallion. I can't even tell you what number it is on the menu. Came on a pretty shell and hot platter. I just said Grilled Scallops. Grilled Shrimp, garlic and chili. Perfectly grilled, the shell full of flavor at first bite. Comes with green sauce that was hot but a good hot. Bun Bo Hue - the broth was really good and the portion was generous with the meats. I love tendons, and the cube of pork blood!Made me happy. Others have said it's not good here but I thought it was one of the better ones in the area. I would order it again. Parking can be a nightmare here because the lot is small shared with other businesses. The servers hustle here! They were very nice and efficient and we had no issues with them. I dined at Oc & Lau once in Westminister. I loved their food! When I read about Oc A Chay in San Gabriel, I was so excited. I thought maybe they were the same restaurant, but they are not. Although they both serve similar bold and delicious Vietnamese dishes. It is located in a small plaza called San Gabriel Gateway. Parking above ground is limited, but they also do have underground parking available. My daughters and I were the first customers. Inside dining space was spacious, cozy, and comfy. Love the quaint Asian street hanging billboard decor! We sat at a bench for better backing. Staff was welcoming and greeted us right away. They were quite attentive when we needed something during our dining. Thank you All! Menu was huge! Quite a variety of different protein dishes. Prices were average especially for seafood. I am a big seafood fan so my eyes were on them mostly. I wanted to try all their best sellers. I may have missed a few, but we got 11 dishes total which I was very pleased with for the most part. Everything was fresh and of good quality. Portions were big. We chowdowned like champs LOL. 31. Razor Clams Grilled with Scallion Oil - First time trying razor clams. An interesting dish. Taste was great, but nothing that says WOW. What's the difference between razor and regular clams? Razor is a longer version. Their meat is more tender and sweet. 33. Sea Snails in Coconut Milk - Coconut milk was smooth and creamy. Slightly disappointed on the small snail size. Not much meat. Will try another snail dish on my next visit. 65. Charcoal-Grilled Beef - I didn't try this because I don't eat beef anymore. My daughters loved it though. Tender and wonderfully marinated beef slices. YUM! 67. The high ratings are what brought me here in the first place. My eyes always light up anytime I see razor clams on a menu, so I was excited to give this place a try. We were seated right away when we arrived, although it took a while before anyone came to take our order. We started with the sizzling razor clams, and honestly, they were the highlight of the meal, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and a great start. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, and it really missed the mark. Several ingredients felt poorly prepared. The tendon was so tough it was basically inedible and had to be pushed aside. The pork blood tasted like it had been cooked separately since it had none of the broth flavor soaked into it. Even the beef slices felt out of place, almost like they had been pulled from a pho bowl and dropped into the BBH at the last minute. The broth itself lacked the richness, spice, and strong lemongrass flavor that normally makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. It just tasted flat. There was also a mix-up with our order when the wrong dish came out instead of the lobster. When the lobster finally arrived, it was badly overcooked and much smaller than what was shown on the menu. On top of that, the music was blasting the entire time, no one really checked in to see how things were going, and it took multiple attempts just to get our check. Came here after my wife raved about this place. They share a plaza with CVS and other restaurants so the lot was pretty packed. I do believe there is additional underground parking but I did not explore it. I was lucky someone was leaving and pulled in. Restaurant was clean and busy - but not chaotic. Came to this restaurant thinking, why not try something new today after a long day at work? I came in not expecting that much because, in all honesty, I'm usually pretty disappointed when it comes to snails other than when I go down to Orange County. To my surprise, the snails were amazing. Tasted so good. Everything was protein-packed. The dishes did not disappoint. I really enjoyed eating the snails, the squid, the chicken cartilage, and their loaded fried rice. I was glad to hear there was a new quán nhậu in SGV. I was hoping this one will be good enough, so I wouldn't have to drive all the way to OC anymore. While this is the best of its kind in the area, it still has some catching up to do on flavor and execution. The mango salad with squid needed a bit more fish sauce in their nuoc cham. Squid was tender and the mango was fresh and crunchy. Overall the dish was a bit bland. The bo loc lac was made using filet mignon which is the perfect cut for this dish. It was also cooked to a medium rare which made it very tender. However, I don't think the wok was hot enough because the meat tasted boiled and not wok fried. Out of all the meals during our visit to LA, Oc A Chay was the only restaurant we went back to twice--it was that good. The Viet-Chinese seafood flavors here are absolutely impeccable. Glad to find this spot and I had it with the Sichuan sauce; it was more like a Thai chili sauce plus a special green sauce but it went really well with the dish. Seafood tastes frozen. The coconut snail looked nothing like the photo and the snails was not fresh very green inside. Typically the steamed scallops are one big scallop but these were several mini scallops which are frozen and low value. I'd say skip! OVERALL portions are very small. I would say this is nothing compared to OC Lau in garden grove. It brought us back to our trip to Danang and Hoi An. The restaurant specialty is seafood but also have your pho and rice plates on the menu. I probably wouldn't reorder the chewy beef or some of the clam dishes, but everything else was decent. The presentation was nice, though some dishes could use a bit more punch in flavor. We actually ordered four dishes, but only three came out: razor clams, scallops with quail eggs, and Bun bo Hue Mo Lan (their signature Hue style beef noodle soup). Unfortunately, our first experience didn't live up to the hype. Both the noodles and razor clams were very bland, and we were really hoping the seasoning could be adjusted. The scallops with quail eggs were tasty, but it felt like mostly quail eggs with very few tiny baby scallops. For the prices they charge, the seafood portions were surprisingly small. I've been super excited to try this spot as I have heard good things and I do not have to drive down to OC. The interior is a bit confusing because they still have some HK decor, but the inside was very clean! My favorite dish was definitely the squid cartilage. I love the texture and the sauce that it comes with. They provide a baguette to soak up all the yummy goodness. This particular dish comes with their green sauce that was super bright and spicy. Using some low hanging lights instead of recessed ceiling lights would give the overall vibe a better feel. Chairs and tables are wood with cushioning. I don't love the pink and blue chairs randomly inserted in as it doesn't feel like they fit in with the dark wood. However, cleanliness is excellent. They use a parchment type paper for you so you can freely spit out any shells and whatnot onto the paper if needed. Food - Butter garlic Tofu: I initially thought this was a dry dish but it's saucy. The taste is good overall but you can tell they use some kind of margarine instead of butter. It hits you with that fake butter/margarine taste. I do get some garlic taste and the soft onions are nice. It's not a bad dish? It's nice if you don't mind the taste of margarine but easy to get sick of. Savory and fragrant in its own right. Fries with cheese powder: The fry is good/basic. Not soft but not super crispy. They're about right. Cheese powder has zero taste to it except a vague undertone of creaminess. If you blind folded me, I wouldn't be able to really tell they have anything on them. Garlic Chicken Gizzards: My mom's review - "Fragrant and tasty. They have a nice chew to them with a good flavor." Stone Bowl Bun Bo Hue: The bowl keeps it super hot for much longer. A fun little difference from the regular bowl. Mom's review "Broth is super flavorful and tastes right. The pork hock is also good since many other places cook it separately from the broth, it tends to lack a taste besides meat but they seem to do it correctly here. There's a good amount of spice! It's good enough for me, even though I can't eat spice well. I enjoyed this!!" My dishes were okay but not completely to my taste or just average but my mom loved hers! I know it was a relatively busy time on a Saturday night, but it should not take about 20 minutes before we even got our order taken, and it was so difficult to get the waiters to bring out waters, napkins, extra dishes or bowls, and even the check. The food was just ok. The mango and squid salad was actually probably the best one, good mix of sweet and savory, lots of crispy garlic that goes well with the dish. The scallops with quail egg was too runny for my taste, and the sliced Babylon snails barely had any snails in it and didn't taste like it contained any snails. Also did not routinely come with sliced bread, and for these reasons I think it is very expensive and not worth the price of what you're getting. I bought 3 pounds of crawfish from here today because I was told they had fresh live crawfish available. I placed a to-go order, but after ordering, the employee came back and said they had run out of the garlic sauce and that I would need to wait an hour. I told him I did not want to wait and asked if they could just steam the crawfish instead. When I received the order, the crawfish was covered in a different herbal-style sauce, which was fine. Normally, I do not mind the seasoning as long as the crawfish is fresh. Unfortunately, the crawfish they sold me tasted frozen, not fresh. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us to dishes that go well with our palate. The portion size is very generous and they offer banana blossom which I noticed a lot of places don't anymore. The broth was extremely flavorful, they also have a great chili oil on the side as well that pairs very well. The pork hock was a bit tough but still good. My favorite was the garlic butter snails. Mango salad was good but I'd prob ask them to hold the sriracha next time. Razor clams and scallion abalone was good too. The seabass hotpot was waaay too spicy to enjoy, even my mom and bro who love spicy struggled with it. The decor was interesting; there was a mix of hong kong and vietnamese elements and they even had a sign that said "Lan Kwai Fong" but in vietnamese. Interesting but also comforting as I have HK and vietnamese roots :) I know I'll be back to try some of their other items and probably with a bigger group so we can order more to share! read more

Went to Ốc A Chay craving Vietnamese seafood and left very happy. We ordered a mix of dishes and there wasn't a single miss. The bun bo hue was rich, spicy, and comforting. The crab fried rice was loaded and super satisfying. The crab meat glass noodles were a favorite, lots of crab and great texture. The quail eggs with scallops were simple but addictive and perfect for sharing. This is the kind of place where the table keeps getting fuller and you don't want anything taken away.
