Been a while since we came here, luckily wife craving for it. Another amazing dinner with great service and driving distance. A must must try in San Gabriel valley since I don't think there is anything like them.
I was looking for a Vietnamese food spot in the area, and the high ratings convinced me to stop by. I was also craving mussels and I knew that I had to order them from here. We were seated right away on a Thursday night. Heads up, the menu could feel overwhelming because there were so many dishes that claim to be their 'best-seller.' The first dish we had was the Bun Bo Hue, and this made a great impression. The broth was well-seasoned, meat portions were generous, and honestly this had me excited for everything else that was coming. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't quite live up to that first dish. We ordered the "Fried Rice with 8 treasures," and as someone who is not too picky with rice dishes, this one fell short for me. It lacked any form of seasoning and depth. I added the sauce on the side with some pepper to the rice and that still did not add much flavor. We also ordered the fried fish balls with quail eggs, mango salad, and finally the clams. The mango salad was refreshing and probably the only dish I would get again after the bun bo hue. Our fried fish balls with quail eggs were a little too dense and chewy for my liking. The clams were overcooked and turned rubbery. Service throughout the meal was attentive. I really wanted to love this place because I had a particular craving for mussels that night. Unfortunately, everything after the bun bo hue just didn't hit the same. Ambiance was cute with the signs hanging above our heads. There was a TV playing sports games on one side of the wall. It's definitely your casual spot! I wouldn't mind coming back for a quick meal but I would only stick with their bun bo hue and mango salad.
I'm one for eclectic exotic foods and OC A Chay delivered! I drove an hour to get here from West LA and I would do it again. Very worth it for authentic Vietnamese food! I came here for snails and their egg yolk sauce was phenomenal. Highly recommend this sauce! I ordered fried chicken feet and while the flavor was good there isn't much meat after the frying so I probably wouldn't get it again. Congee was flavorful as well. I also tried the bun bo hue. It was good but not the best I've had. Personally I thought it could use a little more funk/shrimp paste. I love that they gave generous amount of rau ram leaves with every order. It's one of my favorite herbs! The pandan milk tasted super fake and it was an unappetizing spray paint green color. That was the only let down.
I dined at Oc & Lau once in Westminister. I loved their food! When I read about Oc A Chay in San Gabriel, I was so excited. I thought maybe they were the same restaurant, but they are not. Although they both serve similar bold and delicious Vietnamese dishes. It is located in a small plaza called San Gabriel Gateway. Parking above ground is limited, but they also do have underground parking available. My daughters and I were the first customers. Inside dining space was spacious, cozy, and comfy. Love the quaint Asian street hanging billboard decor! We sat at a bench for better backing. Staff was welcoming and greeted us right away. They were quite attentive when we needed something during our dining. Thank you All! Menu was huge! Quite a variety of different protein dishes. Prices were average especially for seafood. I am a big seafood fan so my eyes were on them mostly. I wanted to try all their best sellers. I may have missed a few, but we got 11 dishes total which I was very pleased with for the most part. Everything was fresh and of good quality. Portions were big. We chowdowned like champs LOL. 31. Razor Clams Grilled with Scallion Oil - First time trying razor clams. An interesting dish. Taste was great, but nothing that says WOW. What's the difference between razor and regular clams? Razor is a longer version. Their meat is more tender and sweet. 33. Scallops with Quail Eggs - A best seller indeed! Came out on a sizzling plate. PERFECT in its colorful presentation and flavorful taste! Caution when hot. Will get again. 43. Grilled Squid with Chili Salt - One big squid all sliced up! Love the grilled taste, but squid itself was a bit chewy. Will pass on it next time. 57. Sea Snails in Coconut Milk - Coconut milk was smooth and creamy. Slightly disappointed on the small snail size. Not much meat. Will try another snail dish on my next visit. 65. Charcoal-Grilled Beef - I didn't try this because I don't eat beef anymore. My daughters loved it though. Tender and wonderfully marinated beef slices. YUM! 67. Stir-Fried Glass Noodles with Crab Meat - Similar to the fried rice version, but just with glass noodles. Good, but rice was better. 76. Hong Kong-Style Salt & Pepper Chicken Cartilage - I'm not a fan of chicken cartilage, but salt & pepper seasoning was well balanced. Good amount of cartilages on the plate. 88. Fried Chicken Gizzards with Garlic - Gizzards were a bit tough. Entire sizzling plate was a tad salty. Won't get this again. 94. Fried Rice with Crab Meat - Quite flavorful and tasty! Dish was perfectly wok'ed and seasoned. It's not marked as a favorite on the menu, but A MUST GET in my book! 101. Mango and Squid Salad - One of the best dishes! SO DELICIOUSLY GOOD!! Green mango strips were crisp and crunchy. Squid was tender. Love the citrus marinate. Very fresh and good quality salad! GET IT EVERY TIME! 115. Singapore-Style Frog Congee - Cooked in claypot, sauce was a bit salty, frog legs weren't the moistest, won't get it again There you have it on our take on alot of food. Nothing special to drink, but water for us. We took home just a few items because we ate most of it here. Oddly enough, the food item names were in Vietnamese writing on the bill. I had to cross reference the numbers to the items on the menu to figure out which was what. Anyway, total bill was $222.00 including tip out the door. Averaged $20+ per dish. Cool beans! Scrumptious foods comboed with great service in cool ambiance is all worth it! Highly recommend. Yes, I'll be back soon!
The food style is different than other restaurants in the neighborhood. Many ingredients that are not seen in other Asian restaurants. Food is flavorful and good taste. Not huge portion which allows you to taste more than one item at once. Price is reasonable. We will for sure come back to taste more.

I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, and it really missed the mark. Several ingredients felt poorly prepared. The tendon was so tough it was basically inedible and had to be pushed aside. The pork blood tasted like it had been cooked separately since it had none of the broth flavor soaked into it. Even the beef slices felt out of place, almost like they had been pulled from a pho bowl and dropped into the BBH at the last minute. The broth itself lacked the richness, spice, and strong lemongrass flavor that normally makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. It just tasted flat. There was also a mix-up with our order when the wrong dish came out instead of the lobster. When the lobster finally arrived, it was badly overcooked and much smaller than what was shown on the menu. On top of that, the music was blasting the entire time, no one really checked in to see how things were going, and it took multiple attempts just to get our check. When we mentioned the food issues, the response was basically, "We'll let the chef know." Not exactly the kind of service you hope for after a disappointing meal. Really wanted to like this place, especially after such a strong start with the razor clams, but overall it ended up being a letdown.
Came here after my wife raved about this place. They share a plaza with CVS and other restaurants so the lot was pretty packed. I do believe there is additional underground parking but I did not explore it. I was lucky someone was leaving and pulled in. Restaurant was clean and busy - but not chaotic. We ordered a bunch of seafood dishes and everything was amazing. My favorite was the razor clams and the blood cockles but everything was honestly great. Everything was fresh and they sold beer towers as well. I would definitely come back and try other new items on the menu!
Best Vietnamese grilled seafood in town! They're not quite the same as OC & Lau but they are pretty good. I've gone here twice and can say both times did not disappoint! Must order: - razor clams - crab fried rice - fried squid or grilled squid

This place is amazing especially for the seafood items. I came because of the razor clams but they were out!! Literally they said they couldn't source any for the last 2 weeks. Ok, ok, let's try the other best seller items! No problem because the menu is huge so I re-focused. Oysters, snails, scallops, shrimp, lobster. So many choices for my big eyes. Here's what we got, based on other reviews, and they were not wrong! Mango and Squid salad - get this, get this, get this!! Perfect balance of the grilled squid, green mango, apples and citrus dressing. Oh yeah, love the prawn chips on top too . Childhood memories of good prawn chips. Grilled Scallops with salted egg, garlic oil, and scallion. I can't even tell you what number it is on the menu. Came on a pretty shell and hot platter. I just said Grilled Scallops. Grilled Shrimp, garlic and chili. Perfectly grilled, the shell full of flavor at first bite. Comes with green sauce that was hot but a good hot. Bun Bo Hue - the broth was really good and the portion was generous with the meats. I love tendons, and the cube of pork blood!Made me happy. Others have said it's not good here but I thought it was one of the better ones in the area. I would order it again. Parking can be a nightmare here because the lot is small shared with other businesses. The servers hustle here! They were very nice and efficient and we had no issues with them. Will definitely return so I can try their razor clams!! Quality of food is very good. But need to bring 10 more friends just to try more!
I was glad to hear there was a new quán nhậu in SGV. I was hoping this one will be good enough, so I wouldn't have to drive all the way to OC anymore. While this is the best of its kind in the area, it still has some catching up to do on flavor and execution. The mango salad with squid needed a bit more fish sauce in their nuoc cham. Squid was tender and the mango was fresh and crunchy. Overall the dish was a bit bland. The bo loc lac was made using filet mignon which is the perfect cut for this dish. It was also cooked to a medium rare which made it very tender. However, I don't think the wok was hot enough because the meat tasted boiled and not wok fried. The fried tofu and the fried frog legs used the same salted egg yolk sauce. It had good egg yolk flavor, but was a bit too sweet.
Out of all the meals during our visit to LA, Oc A Chay was the only restaurant we went back to twice--it was that good. The Viet-Chinese seafood flavors here are absolutely impeccable. Bold, aromatic, and deeply layered, every dish delivers that addictive combination of richness and umami that Oc-style seafood does so well. We ordered the clams, apple snails, and scallops, and each one was outstanding. We also tried the bún bò Huế, which deserves just as much praise. The broth was incredibly flavorful--deep, spicy, and aromatic without being overwhelming. It was one of those bowls that hits immediately and keeps delivering all the way through, easily standing on its own alongside the seafood dishes. This is the kind of place where flavors are unapologetically strong, meals are meant to be shared, and you leave already thinking about what you'll order next time. If you love Vietnamese seafood and bold, soulful broths, Oc A Chay is absolutely worth a visit--and very likely a repeat one.
I met up with my bestie for dinner at Oc A Chay. She lives close to the area, but she wanted to come here with a Vietnamese to be able to order all the good dishes. They are located in the same plaza as CVS, Tam's Noodle House and Dim Sum Box. There was sufficient amount of private parking for the plaza. When we first arrived, there was a lot of seats open. The staff was friendly and welcoming and said we can sit anywhere we would like. Phuong and Dat helped us the entire night and the service was fantastic. I recommend coming early because they did get busy and by the time we left every table was filled. The energy here is definitely upbeat and a great place to hang and catch up with friends. We had an incredible feast and would come back to reorder all of the dishes we tried this visit and more: Goi Xoai Muc ($15.99) - Mango salad with squid. Very light and refreshing. This is an unripe mango thinly cut and mixed in with traditional Vietnamese herbs. It also comes with some shrimp chips to funnel up this delicious salad. Oc Mong Tay Mo Hanh ($18.99) - Razor clams grilled with scallion oil. One of the least flavorful items by compare. Both my friend and I felt like the scallion oil was very light on these razor clams but enjoyed it with the sauces from other dishes. Oc Mo Bo Toi ($24.99) - Fat snails prepared garlic butter style. Delicious. These bigger snails makes them easier to pick them out with the skewers they serve this with. Ngheu Xao Bo Toi ($16.99) - Clams prepared garlic butter style. Yum. Juicier compared to the snails and absorbs the sauce well. The clam shell makes it easy to scoop up the sauce and drink it. Oc Len Xao Dua ($16.99) - Sea snails in a coconut milk sauce. One of my favorites but I know it's one of the more difficult ones to eat, cause you'll have to suck on it really hard to get the snail out. But the sauce is delicious and unique. So Diep Trung Cut ($15.99) - Scallops with quail eggs. Highly recommended by staff, They mentioned this was a popular dish. Very decadent. It was a smidge too much food for 2 people but when I asked my friend if she would remove anything, she mentioned it was all a good variety for the meal. Next time we'll need to come back with more friends to try more of their dishes. read more
We tried to like this place and been here twice and still didn't like the food here. Quality is not great especially for beef hot pot. It was sooooo chewy! Seafood was alright it's a hit or a miss. Service is great though! read more

You don't have to drive all the way to Orange County for some bomb Viet food. I'm surprised people are not blowing up this spot! Located in small plaza in San Gabriel, this restaurant serves seafood, snails, hot pot and more. Very friendly and prompt service. After ordering, the food came out in less than 10 minutes. HUGE portions compared to other restaurants with this similar vibe. Decorated with city signs inside and spacious seating. Parking could be tight. Food 5/5. Grilled shrimp my favorite and crab fried rice was so solid. Snails and seafood also flavorful and plentiful. Will come back. read more
Came across this Vietnamese seafood restaurant since I've seen a restaurant similar in OC and wanted to try. Since it was our first time here, the server gave us recommendations. They have a variety of seafood. I ended up ordering snail with egg yolk, razor clam with garlic butter, on choy and a side of bread to dip in the egg yolk sauce. The food was delicious. I especially loved the razor clams. The green dipping sauce that came with seafood was addicting. I'd definitely come back with a larger party to try out their other dishes. read more
Came to this restaurant thinking, why not try something new today after a long day at work? I came in not expecting that much because, in all honesty, I'm usually pretty disappointed when it comes to snails other than when I go down to Orange County. To my surprise, the snails were amazing. Tasted so good. Everything was protein-packed. The dishes did not disappoint. I really enjoyed eating the snails, the squid, the chicken cartilage, and their loaded fried rice. Their water spinach was to die for, and so was their stew. I enjoyed the ambiance. It looked like everyone else was having a good time at this restaurant. Service was top-notch. Cleanliness was pristine clean, and my daughter also enjoyed it. What a great way to end the week on a Friday night. Best dinner I've had in so long. read more
Food: 4/5 Snails, squid mouth, razor clams, pork cheek were all delicious! Their green sauce is spicy and good, perfect add on. Add some fresh slice chilies and seriously can't have enough. So glad they opened a location in 626! The seafood was so fresh and they don't skimp out on the portions. Our favorites were the scallop with quail egg and mango squid salad. The mango squid salad came with a TON of perfectly lightly seared squid omg. Felt like they put a whole squid in there. The scallop with quail egg had such a delightful texture. Friendly service, didn't have to wait so long on a Friday night. They do take reservations if your planning on coming a head of time same day. Taste of the food was ok but not fresh. Seafood tastes frozen. The coconut snail looked nothing like the photo and the snails was not fresh very green inside. Our scallop with fish roe came out half cooked it was still frozen in the center. Typically the steamed scallops are one big scallop but these were several mini scallops which are frozen and low value. I'd say skip! We also ordered the hot stone bun bo hue which was the only decent food along with the crab vermicell. Vibe is moderately loud, but manageable everyone just talks loudly. Decently clean. OVERALL portions are very small. I would say this is nothing compared to OC Lau in garden grove. If you want something good don't waste your time here and just go to OC Lau, better food, portion and quality you won't regret it. read more

Never knew I would love this restaurant so much! Everything we ordered was amazing, from the crab fried rice to the shaved octopus salad (best dish here), to the razor clams, and the oysters (in buttery garlic goodness sauce). Everything was flavorful and delicious. Service was really good. The guys kindly helped out with clearing our tables, shell buckets, fills out waters, and got us sauces we wanted. OC A Chay is the SGV version of Oc & Lau, but with even better prices. The service is unbelievably fast--probably some of the quickest I've ever experienced at a restaurant. The mango and squid salad is a must-order, packed with fresh flavors and the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory. Great food, great value, and efficient service make this spot an easy favorite. read more
We were excited to try Oc A Chay and see how it stacks up against the Vietnamese seafood spots in OC. The seven of us shared a wide spread, including razor clams, grilled mussels, cheese shrimp, grilled garlic beef, scallops with quail eggs, grilled octopus, roasted peanuts, crab fried rice, a mushroom hot pot, and a couple of other clam dishes. I probably wouldn't reorder the chewy beef or some of the clam dishes, but everything else was decent. The presentation was nice, though some dishes could use a bit more punch in flavor. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. The mushroom hot pot was especially comforting, and they were happy to give us extra broth since we were a large group. Overall, it's a solid spot to have in the SGV with some room for improvement. I'd give it 3.5 stars. read more

Man, haven't had fresh razor clams for the longest time! Glad to find this spot and I had it with the Sichuan sauce; it was more like a Thai chili sauce plus a special green sauce but it went really well with the dish. My daughter wanted to try the hot pot. Her favorite part was the thin egg noodles, which I think was very thin and had great texture. Service was great, the server gave great suggestions and made a special drink with peach and lychee with crystal boba for my daughter. The decor is cool, crossed with some HK business signs. read more

We were over the moon when we heard there was finally a Vietnamese seafood spot like OC & Lau in the 626. We went in excited and ordered all the items the staff recommended. We actually ordered four dishes, but only three came out: razor clams, scallops with quail eggs, and Bun bo Hue Mo Lan (their signature Hue style beef noodle soup). Unfortunately, our first experience didn't live up to the hype. Both the noodles and razor clams were very bland, and we were really hoping the seasoning could be adjusted. The scallops with quail eggs were tasty, but it felt like mostly quail eggs with very few tiny baby scallops. For the prices they charge, the seafood portions were surprisingly small. We left feeling hungry. We really wanted to love this place and hope it was just an off day, but based on this visit, it didn't quite hit the mark. We may give it another try in the future, but there's definitely room for improvement. read more

My friend and I tried this new Vietnamese place today for lunch, and the foods were so delicious. Such an authentic experience and both enjoyed it very much. It brought us back to our trip to Danang and Hoi An. The restaurant specialty is seafood but also have your pho and rice plates on the menu. They serve different dishes and have variety of choices to choose from. I believe their original location is in Garden Grove, so this is their second location. Service staff are wonderful and attentive. The inside vibe is lively. I will definitely will go back to try other dishes. read more

We had an an early dinner here today, and unfortunately, the seafood was not as good as it used to be. The most noticeable change was that every single dish came out with much smaller portions than before. At last, I knew that they had promotion @happy hour 3-5pm. We arrived there at 5:15pm, so we couldn't get the discount. I guessed that the cook thought we were happy hour customers. Food Highlights: 1) Clams The soup base was good and clams were tasty cooked well without being rubbery. 2) Grilled Scallops with Salted Egg Yolk The taste of Salted Egg Yolk was not strong enough. 3) Razor Clams & Classic A little bit overcooked. 4/ Crab Meat Fried Rice The piece of crab meat was noticeable smaller. Ambiance - Lackluster but they recently opened so maybe they'll put in more deco or make it better along the way. Using some low hanging lights instead of recessed ceiling lights would give the overall vibe a better feel. Chairs and tables are wood with cushioning. I don't love the pink and blue chairs randomly inserted in as it doesn't feel like they fit in with the dark wood. However, cleanliness is excellent. They use a parchment type paper for you so you can freely spit out any shells and whatnot onto the paper if needed. Food - Butter garlic Tofu: I initially thought this was a dry dish but it's saucy. The taste is good overall but you can tell they use some kind of margarine instead of butter. It hits you with that fake butter/margarine taste. I do get some garlic taste and the soft onions are nice. It's not a bad dish? It's nice if you don't mind the taste of margarine but easy to get sick of. Savory and fragrant in its own right. Fries with cheese powder: The fry is good/basic. Not soft but not super crispy. They're about right. Cheese powder has zero taste to it except a vague undertone of creaminess. If you blind folded me, I wouldn't be able to really tell they have anything on them. Garlic Chicken Gizzards: My mom's review - "Fragrant and tasty. They have a nice chew to them with a good flavor." Stone Bowl Bun Bo Hue: The bowl keeps it super hot for much longer. A fun little difference from the regular bowl. Mom's review "Broth is super flavorful and tastes right. The pork hock is also good since many other places cook it separately from the broth, it tends to lack a taste besides meat but they seem to do it correctly here. There's a good amount of spice! It's good enough for me, even though I can't eat spice well. I enjoyed this!!" My dishes were okay but not completely to my taste or just average but my mom loved hers! I would say they don't specialize in my dishes here. You're really going here for the seafood and other things but you should also make sure the other things you include on the menu taste up to standard. Service: Quick to answer, though we were among the few filled tables here since they're new. Patient and friendly people. Can speak English and Vietnamese well! read more

This is my second visit to the Oc A Chay restaurant, and it appears to be empty around 4:15 p.m. There are only one or two tables occupied by customers. We ordered the following: hot stone bowl beef noodle soup with rare beef, beef shank, tendon, sausage, pork blood, pork hock, and Thai seafood hotpot; grilled clams with scallion oil; grilled squid with chili salt; fried rice topped with shrimp and egg; and stir-fried glass noodles with fresh shrimp. All of the food we ordered tasted great, although it was spicy. You'll enjoy this restaurant if you're looking for good seafood, snails, and Bun bo hue. read more

First time to try Vietnamese street style food. Very interesting seafood dishes which we enjoyed the flavors and presentations. Server was helpful to recommend their best dishes especially the razor clams. The razor clam dish arrived at table steaming on a grill plate. The clams were tender and extra delicious with the sauce. A relatively new restaurant that is going for a Vietnamese street food vibe, with various snails as the specialty along with clams and other seafoods, noodles, rice. We were seated pretty quickly, but after that everything with service took a long time. I know it was a relatively busy time on a Saturday night, but it should not take about 20 minutes before we even got our order taken, and it was so difficult to get the waiters to bring out waters, napkins, extra dishes or bowls, and even the check. The food was just ok. The mango and squid salad was actually probably the best one, good mix of sweet and savory, lots of crispy garlic that goes well with the dish. The scallops with quail egg was too runny for my taste, and the sliced Babylon snails barely had any snails in it and didn't taste like it contained any snails. Also did not routinely come with sliced bread, and for these reasons I think it is very expensive and not worth the price of what you're getting. With the extremely slow service mediocre expensive food, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

This food is pretty unique, there's another restaurant which I know that started these Grill seafood, snails, etc, OC & Lau in Irvine. That's very very good, however this place seem serve similar food, but yet, it's cooked differently. that's fine, but the flavor is far from OC & Lau in my opinion. My friend went to lunch with agreed as well. The place atmosphere is still the Hong Kong Macau theme. no remodeling from the previous restaurant that's there. So, I think the food could be better with better flavors. It's certainly different than traditional Vietnamese restaurants that serves pho. read more

I've been super excited to try this spot as I have heard good things and I do not have to drive down to OC. The interior is a bit confusing because they still have some HK decor, but the inside was very clean! My favorite dish was definitely the squid cartilage. I love the texture and the sauce that it comes with. They provide a baguette to soak up all the yummy goodness. This particular dish comes with their green sauce that was super bright and spicy. We got the clams with the peanuts next and it was yummy too. It comes on a sizzling plate and keeps the seafood very hot. We also got this soup with huge bone pieces. Plenty of meat and the soup was sweet and sour. The crab fried rice was so yummy and a great way to end the meal on some carbs. The beef slices were so tender and flavored. Definitely best eaten hot and fresh. You can't have this meal without a drink. The peach orange lemongrass tea was so delicious and refreshing. read more
