I went in for a simple wash and blow-dry and let her know ahead of time that I have extensions. She told me the starting price was $30. When I asked what the price would be with extensions, she wouldn't give me a clear answer and only said it would be "a little more." The service itself was fine, but she started me late and left me midway through my blow-dry to work on someone else's haircut. In the end, I was charged $130 for a straight blow-dry with no styling. I questioned how the price went from $30 to $130, and she said it was because I have extensions. Since that price felt unreasonable, I asked for curls after the fact. I've received wash, blow-dry, and styled services with longer extensions at higher-end salons, with no waiting, and have never paid over $100. I also mentioned that I do hair in Beverly Hills, and when I expressed that the pricing was excessive, she asked what I charge. After I told her--significantly less--she had nothing to say. I was hoping to find a salon I could visit weekly for blowouts, but unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

I showed Sooyoung photos of how I want my hair but she cut it way too short! My hair was mid back long and she cut off 6-5 inches leaving my hair up to my ear. I'm crying right now because I kept telling her that I didn't want it short but she wouldn't listen. She is nice but sometimes she has to listen to customers because we know what we want and how we want it. It's our hair so we get to decide how it should be, not you. read more

I like long hair, and I want to keep it long." She said,"ok." Mid conversation she asked if I'd like "medium length layers. " I said,"Yes, that's fine." And well, as you can see, that's not 1-2 inches. I paid her and I left. I cried the whole way home. I was so sad. My hair was the last thing I had that I felt beautiful about since gaining weight. It took me 2 years to grow just to be gone in a matter of minutes. AGAINST my wishes. So please listen to your customer. You never know how it's going to impact them. When we sit in that chair, we trust and pay you to do something we can not do ourselves. It's not to do whatever you want to us. Normally, I am very happy with Soyoung's work and I never had to worry...but today is my absolute worst hair nightmare. After being stuck at home due to the pandemic, I needed a trim. My hair has grown close to elbow length and I wanted to cut off only 2 inches and keep my length all around. I showed her a picture (hair just above the breast with some long wispy layers for texture) and she was confident she got it. I didn't realize how short the "texture" was until it was too late. She has already made the short layers in the back but the "length" she showed me in the beginning of the cut is just the end of my new triangle shaped ends. (Think 90s layered triangle hair cut!) I was in too much of a shock to say anything and just wanted to leave as fast as I could. I showed my friend my hair and she laughed so hard. Thankfully, she will be able to salvage it with some nice balayage highlights but sadly I would need to cut my hair to shoulder length to make it happen. After a few years of having her trim my hair beautifully and now to this...I am too traumatized to ever go back. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my wife and 3 year old daughter. - today we encountered the rudest most unprofessional owner of this place! I can't even review the service as far as haircuts go because when this woman agreed to schedule an appointment for 12:30pm for my daughter, we get there and she's juggling 2 other haircuts during our appointed time. What the fu*k?! So we went in and waited patiently 20 minutes and by then my 3 yr old daughter is starting to get impatient because she's still working on someone else's hair. So I patiently speak up and ask how much longer it's going to be before she starts on my daughter's hair because our appointment was for 12:30pm and we revolved our day around this appointment. By this time is my toddler is starting to want to move around and explore so I asked is she's going to honor our appointment time. This lady straight up opens the door and says go! What the hell?! No apology and no explanation because she decided to triple book our appointment. The customer whose hair she was doing even offered for us to go first but then the salon owner was like, "No just go!" And Kicked us out her dirty old salon! My kid was crying as we had no choice but to leave after this discriminating unprofessional heartless woman wasted our time. Do not support this place and be weary if you try to book an appointment here. You might have to wait pointlessly and then if you try to speak up, get rudely kicked out for no reason other than her own convenience. I don't know how you can treat people with such rejection and lack of courtesy. Not kid friendly, not personable, poor communication, unprofessional, unwelcoming, and over all hurtful and rejecting for whatever reason. read more

I went in for highlight and coverage of grey..I told The owner prior my hair pulls orange/red. She took several clients while my hair processed. I told her prior to leaving my hair was orange red and she added more toner. I left and washed and dried it at home the roots where exactly the colors I told her I did not like..my hair was damaged by the bleach and it just kept turning orange..then she washed all the blonde out and gave me ORANGE RED HAIR..She refused to give me a refund. I just gave this business a call for hair straightening treatments offered and a starting base point quote (such as hair ending at shoulders starts at $$). They are rude on the phone, the woman first off wouldn't say what treatments were offered, such as keratin or Japanese etc. I had to guess and basically had to initiate an answer. Any way I was informed (not welcomed to come in) that yes treatment is offered. Oh and at $300 starting point of where I assumed neck/shoulder length, said in a tone like I would have ended my inquiry after the pricing. Her attitude sayin I don't know whoever does that isn't here gave off such annoyance I ended up telling her forget it clearly you don't want to help me, as she hung up on me. They would have made a ton since my kids hair is over 25". Not such a joyful staff and that only over the phone, I won't take my chances in person so good luck to those of you who do. read more

I recently went to get my hair cut and dyed. The hair cut came out beautiful and loved the layers. However, do not get me started on my hair dye experience. I showed the lady a picture of what I wanted, and she said she could do. I truly believe that if she weren't juggling from person to person she might've done a better job. She was the ONLY hairdresser working on 4 different people at a time! Not only that but her son was very rude in yelling at her (very unprofessional). Back to my hair- she was supposed to do black and blue on my bangs and piece on my side. She also didn't put anything on my hairline to for the dye not to stick to my forehead. When she went to bleach, she didn't part it or take sections, she just grabbed a chunk of hair and a glob of bleach and threw it in my hair. Then she let me sit there to work on the other 4 people....when she came back to check on me, she sighs and says this is not going to work! Do you want to just do all black. First off that's not what I came there for and second the bleach would've worked if she would've taken her time to section my hair. Also, when she washed my hair, she was in such a rush that she literally got dye all over my face :( So now my hair is green, light blue and dark blue. Wait the best part is the price! She charged me 390.00 for a lack for better word Sh*tty job. Plus, she had the nerve to still ask for a tip! Sorry but never again! I will stick to just doing my hair at home, this is what I get for trying to get pampered instead of doing the job myself!!!! Not only was I unsatisfied with the outcome of my hair but I left the place with a half black and half blue forehead! I've been coming here since 2012, I would always have Magic permanent straight done by Soyoung. I've tried other hair straightening before, but Korean way has been the best, trust me, it also lasts longer than others. Recommended is having it done every 6 - 7 months. I have natural wavy hair, and so when my hair does grow, by the 6th month let's say, it doesn't show any sign of burn, as I would get from other places, where it's obvious that I had my hair straightened 6 months back. Here at Joyful Salon, my hair looks naturally straight, up to 7 months. My hair is still shiny, silky and manageable that long. I don't need to comb my hair every 4 hours as I used to, most especially on "windy" days. So for hair straightening needs, I just go here. Pls try too, you'll never be disappointed.
