Ate there with my wife last Friday, March 27. My wife ordered the trout and I got the chicken breast. Each entree came with two sides. The service was good and what there was of the food was very good, but portions are too small. Unless you don't have much of an appetite, you must order an appetizer or desert or you will leave hungry. We split a $9.00 green salad and there wasn't much to it; way over-priced and underwhelming. The waiter brought us a basket of rolls which consisted of some mediocre corn bread and one (1) stale roll that was cold and awful. Did I mention that the one roll wasn't fresh? There are only 6 side dishes which are almost all starches (grits, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and French fries). The only vegetables were collared greens and asparagus, which was slightly salty. French fries in an upscale restaurant?? One more strange thing is that ice tea was $1.75 which is very reasonable, but a cup of hot tea is $3.50. How can hot tea be double the price of cold tea? Just seems weird. We will try it one more time in the summer to see if they adapt and improve. Remember that we are talking about Franklin. read more

Went in for lunch on a trip to GA from NC. We were promptly met at the door by the host and seated fast. The restaurant was about 30 % full. Once seated my wife and I were able to use the restrooms "at separate times" before we were acknowledged by our server. (Slow service noted in other reviews). We each had the soup and sandwich special. The asparagus soup was great! What we received of it! The bowl was 4-5in across and 2in deep. There was 1/4in of soup on the bottom! Why would you dirty a dish like that when an eye dropper would suffice? The chicken salad sandwich was a reminder of an Arby's deli sandwich, jus ho hum. Our server seemed distressed and rushed, but he didn't have that many customers. The ambiance was nice and we'd return if the service/presentation was better. Best of luck read more

We were headed to Maggie Valley and were looking for a good place to stop for dinner and found the Bowery on Yelp. I liked the menu and the reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did, first of all the restaurant is gorgeous. A great space decorated in a rustic/industrial style and just really comfortable. Our waiter, Daniel, was a pro and recommended a few dishes from the brand new menu. I just stopped eating dairy so I was thinking I'd have a salad but was pleasantly surprised to see the seasonal vegetable plate with a dairy free grit cake. It was totally delicious! My husband ordered the Osso Bucco and raved about how good it was even telling the table next to ours that they should order it. Both my kids got the cheeseburgers which they loved and the fries got thumbs up from all of us. They have a good wine list and beer selection and the manager stopped by multiple times to see how things were which was so nice. Overall we loved this restaurant, had a great experience and wished we lived in Franklin so we could come every week! Go eat here and enjoy. read more

We had a little trouble interpreting the menu as it was not what we were used to. Our waitress Molly however was very knowledgeable and helpful. The Southern Soul dish I enjoyed southern fried chicken, mac& cheese, and crispy greens on a brioche bun with an aioli sauce. It was very tasty but I didn't eat the bun....too much bread. I think this would have been better on a flatbread. Our appetizer smoked pork BBQ "wings" with spicy boiled peanuts was an incredible surprise....tender and full of taste. First off, I give this restaurant 4 stars for its GREAT food. But there are several areas that need addressing, such as very slow service. Waitress would just disappear for long periods of time, drink orders were not refilled in a timely manner and you may or may not get the bread with out asking. Kitchen staff is much better as once you FINALLY get to order, the food comes quickly. Kudos to them! This restaurant hangs its reputation as a "farm to table" and while that is accurate with the food it certainly isn't with the beverages. They have about a dozen taps and I'm speaking beer and soft drinks here. Just over the mountain in Sylva are two craft breweries that both brew wonderful beer and also non alcoholic ginger ale, birch beer and root beer. Ok, so don't want to put on tap either of these fine craft brews?, then what about the dozens just up the road in Asheville? I know Lazy Hiker in Franklin is about to open but c'mon.... We travel to Franklin twice a year and I'll check up on them again in July, hopefully they will have worked on better training their servers and added a higher ratio of local brewery to tap brews. read more

Service was fantastic! We had a party of 8 and everyone loved their food. We started with the soup, fried pickles and pork belly. Main dishes in our party were the burger, rabbit, duck, trout and bangers and mash. We all left happy and full and would return again if we lived in the area. They also had $2 draught beers. Amazing! Franklin needed a place like this. Upscale but still very comfortable. Take for instance, their meat and cheese tray. Anyone can do meat and cheese try, but they use local meats, cheeses and house made relishes and jams. Eggs benedict have local eggs and meats. Deviled egg trio took a southern staple and kicked it up a few notches. Some appetizers are $3! Thursdays has local draft beers for $2! So while it's upscale it's not overpriced. read more

FARM TO TABLE!! Very cool vibe, great fresh food with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We are from Atlanta so it was a pleasant surprise to find this in Franklin. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was because we felt like it was a little over priced but the food was amazing. The fried pickles were yummy and the fried artichokes were ok but not an order again dish for us. The trout was prepared well but was pretty bland. That is being said with the understanding that it is a mild Fish. The burger was juicy and huge, the short rib dinner had no bones and came with mashed potatoes and collard greens. I had the shrimp and grits which were a creamy white base with sausage, lots of shrimp and great flavor. Shrimp and grits is one of my favorite dishes and I try it at most places I go...and most places I am a little disappointed. This time I was not. It is different than the typical New Orleans shrimp and grits but a good different. Definitely an order again. read more

This place is an absolute Gem in Western North Carolina... The reviews on this place are perplexing to me, but they must have gone before the kitchen change with the new Chef & menu. They have taken foods and created unique spins and flavors concepts on Southern fair that we all know and love. I have had the pleasure of enjoying Brunch, Lunch & Dinner and i cannot pick my favorite time to go. Their "BBQ Pork Wings" beats any appetizer i have ever had the pleasure of consuming, seriously these things could win Gold medals they are so good. The amount of time, love and care that goes into each and every dish on their menu comes through not only on a visual aspect, but on the taste front as well. Our family had dinner here before a concert while vacationing in Franklin. I could not be more pleased with the food, the staff, and our overall experience at the Bowery. From the second we walked in the door, the staff was attentive and the kitchen met all of dietary needs. It's not often I, as a non dairy vegetarian, can have zero trouble ordering from a menu. The kitchen offered an option and even tweaked it to meet my needs. Even the meat eaters couldn't have been happier with their steak, pork, and fish entrees. The bar had numerous cocktails, beer, and wine options. Everything was exquisitely prepared down to the garnish. We will definitely come here again the next time we're in town. read more

What a great facility and location right downtown. And our service was great. However, FIRE the cook and get a new one. The homemade Mac and cheese was a watered down Kraft from the box. The Pimento and Cheese sandwich tasted like velveeta with some pimentos thrown in with pickled cabbage from a leftover from a Rueben sandwich. read more

The setup and ambiance at this place is great. Very industrial meets "Fixer Upper" chic. Joanna would approve. We ate on the outdoor patio which was great. For the most part, the service seemed much slower out there, so keep that in mind. I had the chicken and dumplings, which were divine. My partner had the pork tenderloin with sweet potatoes - also great! We had the local salad and tried the blue cheese dressing (too strong) and lemon vinaigrette (very vinegary) but overall, a great dining experience. read more

The presentation of the restaurant, the menu, having executive chef and gm's name on the menu all make the place appear legit, but at the end of the day there wasn't anything special. For the flavor you could go to a diner and won't know the difference. The problem here though is that the kitchen is CLEARLY overwhelmed with extremely long wait for food and screwing up orders. Our server was overwhelmed too but she tried very hard. The hostess acts like their restaurant was the sh*t, sorry it's not. We wasted a lot of time in this restaurant in what was supposed to be a quick stop in Franklin. Go someplace else, spend less, save time, save frustration, and I'm sure the food won't be any worse than it is here. Blech... read more

Well, they have done it again, and not in a good way!! When this place was THE BOWEREY, they started out well, but soon deteriorated to a "never go there again" kind of place. Looks like they have done the same thing again. I am told that it is the same owners and management as before, and this would explain a lot. The first 2 times we were there, it seemed like they had cleaned up their act, but this did not last long. The last time, it was just like it was as the Bowery, which had horrendous reviews all over the internet. The last time started with a 15 minute wait to get a drink order, 1 glass of wine and a bourbon on the rocks, short pour I might add, and just how hard is that? When the food finally came, the wedge salad was a joke, there was no "wedge" involved. Now my geometry classes were a while ago, but I do know that a thin, flat, bunch of lettuce does not constitute a "wedge". The other order had a side of green beans, which were inedible. When we FINALLY saw the waiter again and pointed this out, the response was, "oh, sorry, I'll tell the kitchen", really? So there it is, "deja vu all over again", as they say. But, if you are a fan of poor service and bad food at good food and good service prices, give it a try, you probably will like it. read more

This used to be the Bowery I will have to say that they did Keep some of great menu items as well as added some wonderful selections. The sauteed calamari is light flavorful with a nice kick the Fresh Catch tonight was a wonderful Maine flounder perfectly cooked with risotto Tomatoes corn and lightly seasoned to enhance the flavors!
