The decor was impressive; beautiful light fixtures and decorations. The showstopper for our group was the R & B meat and cheese plate. It was simply delicious, and included salami, pimento cheese, red wine cheese, pickles, nuts, fruit, okra, infused sorghum, and bread slices. The rest of our meals were average and the prices were a little high. Also, they were out of shrimp for the night, which was a bit disappointing. Had a reservation for "dinner". and menu on website looked good, however when arriving at 7:30pm, we were given the lunch menu. Dinner menu is not served on sunday's. i guess people don't have dinner on sunday's in Franklin. they could have told me on the phone when i made the reservation. nothing but sandwiches on the menu. Oh, but wait, if you want a steak, they will bring the dinner menu out to you' so you can order the most expensive option on the dinner menu, but nothing more than steak. Get real! if you can cook steak, you can cook salmon or your other dinner options. This is elementary. Very disappointed in this restaurant. The service was very poor, especially since the restaurant was not busy at all. It took over 40 minutes to place our food order and no refills. Food was subpar at best and over priced. Also wasn't aware that this was a dog friendly restaurant and the dog owners did nothing to keep the dog controlled. If I could give this review 10 starts I would. This place is perfection in downtown Franklin, NC. The atmosphere itself is worth the drive. It's the perfect spot for a cozy date night, fun family gathering, or even a large celebration. We stopped for date night on a Friday night and were shocked it wasn't crowded. The draft selection was good and included some local craft brews. We decided on cocktails which were perfectly made. The bread was even worth mentioning but don't worry I'm saving the best for last. THE FOOD! We had the daily special Fish and Chips and the Gouda Chicken Roulade. The fish was a huge piece and piece and the chips were house made potato chips. My personal favorite! The Gouda Chicken Roulade was absolutely one of my favorite dishes anywhere. We will definitely be back as often as possible. read more

Worse restaurant I have ever been. List for price $$$. With a restaurant with a price value of $$$ you expect a higher standard. Ordered a flat iron stake, $50 (outrageous). It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Steak was burnt. The entire steak was black. The asparagus was even burnt. This tells me there is no 'chef'. Instead it's a 16 year old kid. Place is not and never will be a higher quality restaurant. Owners must have some inflated perception of themselves and, obviously, the quality of the 'restaurant'. Arrived at lunch time on Monday. Informed me that the kitchen was on a wait. Seated after about 15 minutes. I ordered the broiled chicken with pesto on croissant. My husband and I had dinner here for Valentine's Day. We had reservations, and when we walked in there was an isolated table for two in the entryway. I commented to my husband that I would NEVER want to sit at that table because everyone who came in would look at the people sitting there. Unfortunately that's exactly where we were seated. My husband asked if there was any way we could sit somewhere else, and the host/manager was very gracious about it moving us to another table. The food was wonderful, as was the service. Food was good. I started with the herbal G&T which was good and a good pour. Hubby had draft beer. Must be a bumper crop of sweet potatoes because they were featured heavily on the menu. Hubby had the sweet potato soup and I had the blyss appetizer. My appetizer was huge and tasted like a dessert. Crispy sweet potato wedges with apples a maple syrup cream. Oh my. Took most of it home for breakfast. I had the filet mignon. It was cooked medium rare as I ordered it. Hubby has prime rib which was tender and delicious. Both came with blistered asparagus which was good. Coffee after dinner was strong for after dinner coffee but good. They lost a star on serving our entrees practically on top of our appetizers. Tables seem to be turned over quickly. Kind of rushed. They also messed up our reservation. We were supposed to be outside and were not. Ahh! I wanted SO BAD to love this place! It truly is beautiful on the inside and I was hoping to get a little of that "pinky up" vibe that I am accustomed to in Atlanta... BUT... Walked in. Sign says wait to be seated... so we did... for several minutes. I noticed a young girl down the steps wrapping silverware while on her phone and thought, "maybe that is the hostess?" So I got her attention... she comes up and doesn't even apologize for abandoning her station and leaving people standing there. Get to the table, nice waiter. Took our drink orders... waited about 10 minutes... no one was working the bar. He comes back to take our food order and I asked if we could have our drinks first... geez. Husband got a beer, I got a margarita rocks. Margarita was basic. Made from a mix. Boo. Ordered food. Daughter wanted chicken tenders but waiter said they were out. My husband got the chicken salad croissant and tried to order a side but they were also out of that (cannot recall which one!) I ordered the soup du jour and a caesar salad. The soup was very tasty but the salad was strange... Menu said it was baby kale - I got romaine with no dressing. Asked the waiter for dressing, he said ok, but forgot. Eventually got his attention again and he brought it out and it was actually quite good! He did comp me for my salad, but the pain of this disappointing dining experience still burned. I think the food that we got was actually GOOD but I felt like everyone working there was 16-18 years old. Perhaps they need someone on the floor watching over them? Seemed like teenagers were in charge of this restaurant and while they were nice, they need more leadership. Kitchen needs more discipline as well. Hopefully they will work out the kinks! read more

The food is fantastic for brunch, rivals any high class 3 $$$ joint in DC easily. We stopped in for brunch on Sunday, and found both the food and the service to be on point. The restaurant looks log cabin chic in design, and they were rocking 80's pop which we loved. Now for the food; I had the parfait and traditional eggs Benedict (both were some of the best I've had and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly), my friend hand the pancakes and he said they were fantastic, and my husband the huevos divorciados which he said were really good, but he did wish there was more guacamole so ask for extra if you an avocado fan! Update: we came back for dinner and I took away a star, I'd actually take away two but the brunch was so good I left it. We ordered the smoked ribeye with broccolini as the seasonal veggie. The ribeye was ok, but the balsamic added a nasty flavor (I'd suggest asking for it sans balsamic), the broccolini was oily and also soaked up the balsamic so yuck, and the mashed potatoes tasted literally like that; a potato with skin mashed up without butter or milk. The trout was pretty good although it was actually pan seared and the skin wasn't crispy. The steak and potatoes was nasty, super charred on the outside to the point of burned and it ruined the meat, the fries were good though! read more

Very nice decor, terrible service, food was blah Our temperature was taken at the door by a young girl showing her navel. Mistake #1 Soup of the day was chicken with andouille sausage- no chicken no sausage. Just some yucky water lukewarm, with green peppers and yucky. Mistake #2 Ordered prime rib with shrimp (obviously frozen from a bag) ordered mashed potatoes, got baked potato plain. Ordered a Caesar salad, got some greens with carrots, NOT a Caesar. Waitress offered to bring the mash and salad, NO steak knife for me we share the entree. I was done with my steak "tada" here is your steak knife. Too late, she graciously said "let me bring the mashed potatoes and Caesar salad. A real Caesar salad is made with romaine lettuce, NOT kale. $60.00 bucks later not returning . read more

I have been here 3 times since moving here. Can't seem to get into it. The food is generally good, but overpriced. $8 for 3 falafel balls? This isn't NY or even Charlotte. Also, it's so loud inside. The Root + Barrel Kitchen (changed name from "the bowery" due to some restaurant in myrtle beach complaining about the name - whaaaaa). Anyway, this restaurant (nickname "R-and-B") rocks Franklin, NC. It's just what Franklin needs to balance out this town's relaxing culture. The inside has a city-style-bar and -seating atmosphere while the outside seating has the hallmark small-town street views and people-watching atmosphere with ample shade and up-front or set-back seating to suit anyone's privacy comfort. This was my first time at R+B and I've eaten at a countless number of restaurants. I am not a foodie. But I ate every drop of my ocean bowl. To me, it was a unique meal and totally satisfying. Hands down, R+B is my favorite dining spot in this marvelous small town in Macon County, NC called Franklin. read more

On our first visit, "I'm sorry" seemed to be the order of the day. Inside tables too noisy to hear yourself think? "I'm sorry." (We ate outside.) Menu ridiculously limited? "I'm sorry." (COVID-19, the current scapegoat for restauranteurs.) Out of filet at 7:30 on a Friday night? "I'm sorry." (We were told they started the night with only 6. We also heard them say to someone else they were out of trout.) Entrée shoved down your throat simultaneously with salads? "I'm sorry." (Although well-intentioned, the server didn't appear to know they should be served as separate courses.) Throw in that in lieu of prices for steaks, the menu said "Market price." If the menus were expensively printed, that might be understandable. But for cheap photo-copied menus in plastic sleeves, it suggests they don't want to advertise that their steaks go for $42 and up for something you can get elsewhere for $35 or less. Michelin starred restaurants might get away with that, but this isn't a Michelin starred restaurant. Overall, well-intentioned but under-trained servers featuring adequate but over-priced food in a pretentious environment. I might give them a second chance at some point, but so far I'm, not impressed. read more

The burger was perfectly cooked, the cheesy Mac was deliciously seasoned and the house Cabernet was smooth. Service was awesome, not overbearing but friendly and attentive.
