I never have done a review before. I never felt a need to do so. I feel bad for only giving three stars because I don't want to negatively effect a business. However I am quite upset. I live right by this place I tried it when it first opened and the teriyaki chicken was very slimy gamey fatty and seemingly a bad quality cut of meat. Me my friend both got it and did not like it. I wrote off the place and then saw that after a few months it gained a lot of traction and better reviews. I wanted to give it another shot so I got the seasonal special lamb soup and some stirfried vegetables. The stirfried vegetables was just one vegetable (Bok Choy) and some sort of garlic sauce maybe it's quality and it's just not my taste however I was not a fan I expected a variety of vegetables and the vegetables to be cooked more. The homemade bun was very tough, stale, and seemingly old. Granted I did get this at four in the afternoon but I expected a steaming hot fresh bun. That's still not an excuse for making me want a pre made bun rather then this "homemade" one. It just seemed so low quality. It was extremely hard to chew. The broth in the soup was a tad bland imo. It is my birthday and I am sick I got some half decent soup. It has two large lamb bones I don't think they were chops. Hardly any edible meat on the bones. A crappy bun and slimy bok choy. I may have just ordered the wrong stuff off the menu. But if that's the case then maybe you shouldn't have such a large menu. Not to mention I placed the order for pick up and then stood at the front door for a little over five minutes but seemed like forever. Waiting for somebody to come give me my take out. I feel like a brat just for complaining about that. A lady was seemingly cooking and running the front by herself so I don't like giving her a hard time. But I should not have had to get her attention while she's in the kitchen to get my food. I may be nitpicking. I may be being unreasonable but my order was not up to my standards. Not to mention since I didn't get their in time for the 15$ lunch special which seems to be their best seller. This came out to $21. For a soup with what in my opinion came off as cheap noodles 2 large bones with scarce amounts of lamb. Some green onions and other things of that nature. A "homemade" bun that was inedible hard as a rock. I've made better bread in my sleep. And the vegetables may have been a preference. But I found the bun inexcusable the soup more then underwhelming and everything overall overpriced. 21$ for two things. One of them being one of the cheapest sides available. This is my opinion. I could be being ignorant to this genre of cuisine. I would give it a 2 star but I feel as though this restaurant must have better things to have a 4.8 so I will be giving it one more shot down the line. However this did bring a damper to my birthday. Also the bun not only was old but cold. If you have old bun. Pop it in the oven for ur customer to make it good as new! read more

We came from Missouri in hope to find good and halal Asian food in Chicago. This is it. The foods were amazing. The meat was tender. We highly recommend the spicy beef noodle (not spicy at all if you love spicy). The Shichuan beef over rice was wonderful as well. The tasty tofu as appetizer was chef's kiss. Delicious, authentic Sichuan cuisine. Great tasting noodles and broths, loved every dish we ordered. Our kids also loved it, which is rare agreement between them. One of a hidden gem in Naperville. Very authentic Chinese noodle soup which does not use very strong flavor to hide the natural flavor of each ingredient. The soup base is full of umami. Even if I drink it all, I won't feel thirsty because of eating too much salt. If you know what I am talking about, you will know the place is awesome. If you prefer stronger flavor, order soup-less noodles. The only drawback is that to me the portion of food is a bit small. read more

The food was excellent. And the atmosphere was quiet and calming. The prices for the food are more than adequate. Not your usual Chinese restaurant. The food is a really fresh taste and it goes beyond what I'm used to. The $15 lunch special looks like a very good deal. I would definitely come back for that for the fine excellent cooking that I experienced and would definitely return. Visited twice in the past week. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Thursday - beef shank appetizer. Well seasoned braised beef shank served on a bed of shredded cucumbers. A bit pricy for the portion, but delicious. - shredded potato appetizer. Deliciously cool and crispy, lightly seasoned. Not your typical western potato dish. - spicy beef noodle soup. The noodles were wonderfully chewy, beef chunks well seasoned and super tender. Soup was flavorful. Definitely highly recommend. - Chonqing street noodle. If you like Mala (numbing Szechuan peppercorn) flavors, you definitely need to try this. Delicious! Stay away if your not into spicy/Szechuan peppercorn flavors. - they offered the free desserts w entree. Both were nice in that they're not too sweet. I'm not big into taro and coconut personally, but if you like those flavors, I would highly recommend it. Unique and unusual flavors. - sour plum juice. We got the pitcher for just the two of us. So wonderfully refreshing. So nice to be able to order it fresh, not bottled. Saturday - chicken wings. If you like wings, highly recommend! Would come just for the wings itself, maybe a double portion as an entree. Marinated, super crispy! Delicious! No need to sauces. - beef noodle soup (NOT spicy). This is completely different from the spicy beef noodle soup. It was a bit bland compared to all the other dishes we tried. It's more "pho" like - a light beef broth, served w sliced beef slices, and baby bok choy. Not sure I would personally order it again, as we loved the spicy beef noodle soup from previous visit. - Beijing noodle. Delicious chewy noodles, and loved the pickled vegetables it was served with. - plum juice. Had the plum juice again and this time took the left overs home in a to go cup. Highly recommend a visit. The first time I came to this place I had a great experience. The service was great and the food, especially the halal menu was amazing! I came today with my sister and our kids and the server was terrible. Made us feel like we are not wanted in the restaurant with the kids. We were the only ones in the place besides a few people coming in for pick up orders. She kept yelling at our kids and telling us the floor was wet. I even asked her if she wanted us to leave because of how aggressive she was. She only put paper bowls out on our table and I asked her if she had real silverware and she said because of the kids. Her demeanor was very rude and she made us feel like we had to leave because we had kids with us. The food was great but I for sure won't be coming back for a while because of the service. read more

The place is clean and bright. It did not have much decorations inside and in fact it looks a bit plain but in a good way. The place looks nice and it is cozy inside. The staff is accommodating, attentive and very helpful. She recommended their signature spicy beef noodles soup so that is why I ordered. I did not order much because I was not in the mood. Service is quite fast. The spicy beef boodles soup has a nice portion and perfect for one person only. The broth is flavorful and the spiciness really kicks in my mouth but it was bearable. The noodles are perfectly cooked and the beef is tender and delicious as well. It is my first time to visit this place and I really like their spicy beef noodles soup and I highly recommend it. I came here for Sunday lunch and there was a big table of about 15 people who seemed to have ordered a while ago and were waiting for their food when we walked in. They seemed understaffed and unable to handle that many people at once. It was painfully slow as we watched them bring out 2 bowls every 5-10 minutes. It took about an hour to receive our food. I ordered the signature beef noodle soup - the broth was okay but didn't have a ton of flavor, it wasn't much food, and it didn't have much toppings (only a few slices of beef and a small amount of bok choy). I was still kind of hungry afterwards; I easily could've eaten a second bowl. I really wanted to like this place but it felt overpriced for such little food. read more

I have no complaints about this place. Service and food is good. Ambiance is good. The biggest problem with this place is you pay too much for the overall quality. My wife and I had two lunches with a salad and ice tea. Our bill was $62! That's just too much for this quality of food. read more

Open, clean space with well-spaced tables. We ordered the sichuan beef, pork ribs, chicken fried rice, and beef lo mein and it was all good. Veggies in the dishes were left slightly crispy which was nice. The only thing we weren't a fan of was the sichuan wonton in spicy sauce. The wonton was good, but wasn't a fan of the spicy sauce. Came here for the night out with my wife and son. Absolutely loved the food. The Js spicy beef and the spicy pork was what we ordered.

I enjoyed eating their noodles. It tasted very authentic and homemade. Will be back.

I have driven by this place a couple of times but never knew what type of restaurant it was. The type is delicious! The Asian Cusine was so finely seasoned! They asked me about the spice level I wanted and I let them know I love flavor but not heat and they gave me delicious food with wonderful flavor. I ordered Signature Beef Noodle and Sichuan Style Diced Beef. I was in the area at 2:30 pm so picked up the food for supper and lunch the next day. Oooops. Before I put the noodle dish in the fridge I had a taste. There were fresh vegetables and cilantro that were crunchy and added great flavor. The beef was tender and flavorful. The noodles were wonderful and the sauce was full of flavor. I had a really early dinner because one taste was not enough. It only took them 10 minutes to get it ready for me! If you want to eat in the restaurant it was nice looking inside. There was a lot of room between tables which I like. I will want to come back to try their lunch special Tuesday-Friday. There is a Smallcakes Cupcake place right in the same area if you have any room left or want to pick something to take home. read more

You may miss this gem near the Jewel Osco on Washington and Ogden, but if you do, you'd also be missing out on some really creative and authentic Chinese food! He also makes a couple of Japanese dishes, but I didn't try those this time around. We got the sliced pork appetizer and the cucumber in sesame oil to start. Both were yummy, and I asked for a side of the fried rice at that point because the pork was so tasty, I wanted some rice to sop up the sauce! The fried rice was a happy surprise as well. I've been looking for a good Chinese place in Naperville for 20 years. Some are better than others but nothing has wowed me until today. If you're looking for the same dishes you can find at every other Chinese restaurant then J's may not be for you (although it has some typical dishes), but if you want something really exceptional give J's a try. I normally over order at a new place hoping I'll get one good dish. At J's, it was hard to pick my favorite. The Chongqing Traditional Street Noodle was probably my favorite although the Beijing Noodle with Soybean Paste was a close second. The Marinated Tofu over Rice, while a simple dish was also very flavorful. Even the chicken fried rice was outstanding. I can't wait to return to J's and sample some more dishes. Also, if you are looking for a drink that is a little bit different try one of the cheezo teas. They sort of taste like a fruity cheesecake. I'm so happy to see a fantastic new Chinese restaurant in Naperville and I hope it'll be around a long time! read more

We first discovered this place about 6 months ago and have been there about 20 times and so you can see that we really love this place. "J" is the first initial of the owner and chef, born in China and raised in Asian restaurants in the US. She is expert at a wide range of authentic Asian cuisines and interacts much with the customers which makes a visit a delightful experience. The decor is basic and spacious and so great if you are concerned about Covid. Very interesting and diverse appetizers and I'm told by experts who know more than me that the entrees are authentic and good. Everything that we're ordered there has been delicious. read more

I had their signature spicy beef noodle soup. The broth was amazingly flavorful, at first I thought it was tasteless based on how it looks but I was wrong. My family did take out for dinner, and we loved it! The spicy beef noodle soup was fantastic, with great flavor from of the Szechuan peppercorn. I added a marinated egg, which was also very tasty. We also got the tofu over rice and the Beijing street noodle, which we all agreed were excellent. We ate too quickly to take pictures, but we are already planning on coming here again!
