We need more places like this in the area. Traditional Chinese cuisine is served here instead of the typical Americanized Chinese stuff you find. Service was friendly and I ordered at the front and was able to sit anywhere. I love the noodles. They taste outstanding! Whether you order the spicy beef noodle soup or Beijing noodles, you're coming out on top. Quantity seems to be just right, but prices are a smidge high. Choose from noodles or a rice dish from the slim menu (definitely not flooded with options like other Chinese places). There was a free dessert with entree promo going on as well. For beef noodle soup, they are delicious. Subtle differences - J's is more Taiwanese taste with more original beef flavor; Katy's is more like northern China flavor, stronger and spicier. All good... I'm happy to have either. Kids love Raman noodles as well as teriyaki over rice. Complimentary desserts were awesome too. After coming here 8 times in less than 3 weeks (yeah, I really do love this place), I've eaten so many things that I already feel I should update my review. Sliced Pork: One of my favorites. The pork slices are so tender. Easy to eat with chopsticks. Served cold. I've ordered this for groups a couple of times and it was loved every time. Braised Beef Shank: Similar flavors as the pork. Served cold. Very good quality beef. Easy to eat with chopsticks. Another favorite. I always order either the pork or the beef starter. Fried Chicken Wings: My family absolutely loves these. My daughter is sometimes not in the mood for Asian flavors and asks for this as her meal. A whole plate of fried chicken wings for herself. Smashed Cucumber Salad: I just ordered this for the first time yesterday. Really nice garlicky taste. I like the cold crunch of the salad. Chicken Soup: Sometimes I order two of these and make it a meal. It's simple, but really good. Without any noodles, it's also an excellent choice if you're avoiding carbs (or gluten) as I often am. Pro Tip: Ask for chili oil to stir in. They have excellent chili oil. Ground Pork Soup: My favorite of the soups. Hard to call it a favorite when I still love the chicken soup, but I do tend to order this one more often. I definitely stir in chili oil. Yum Marinated Whole Egg: I'm addicted to these. With the faint taste of star anise, I could eat a bunch of these in one sitting. I order extras to put in my chicken or pork soup. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: My go-to if I'm splurging on carbs and eating noodles. The beef is really tender. Easy to eat with chopsticks. Really great broth. Beef Noodle: All the same flavors as the spicy beef. Minus the spice. Perfect for a child or adult who can't handle a little heat. In my family, we can all handle the heat though. I start them young on chili oil. Teriyaki Chicken: A perfect choice if you're not brave enough to order the non-Americanized choices. It's really the only thing on the menu that everyone would be very familiar with. No matter your exposure to Asian food. The chicken is really tender and flavorful. Garlic Pork Rib: While the flavor is great, you have to be okay with eating the small bites, all with bone to eat off of. Asian is my favorite food by far, and this is the only Chinese restaurant I want to go to. I never feel sick after eating here. No fat laden greasy foods with sauces full of sugar. Usually with such a "deal" you would expect to find a smaller than usual entree but it is a full sized entree here! I tried something I never had before today, a Lamb Soup with Homemade Bun. It was a unique experience, the broth was clean and delicious. I was told that people in China usually break the bun and dump it in the soup. Beef soup noodles and chongqing street noodles are very well done with flavorful broth. Pork burger, however, is far from the authentic Chinese version. The meat has lots of sauce and salty. This place is still in business strictly due to the high demand of halal food in the area and their location is good because the demographic is there. I wouldn't even give them a star if I could. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a very unpleasant odor truly can't even explain what it was. Right in the front they have half of their inventory just stacked boxes for everyone to see, very unprofessional. Clusters of mess all around the restaurant on their counters. It was unbelievably dirty, the table we were seated on was so greasy and not cleaner probably. The floor seems to eat more than their customers, it was absolutely filthy and throughout a little dinner rush there was absolutely 0 cleaning in between people leaving and coming in. The bathrooms were straight up disgusting, I can only what the kitchen looks like. Which speaking of, since they're set up is open you can see the cooks 2 of them had long hair and it was not well kept not a single hat or hair net in sight. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, the food was out right BAD I'd rather Panda Express for "Chinese food" as they called it. The chicken was awful, it tasted like it's been sitting in the fridge for a week, and it had a bad smell to it. The soups are awful I swear this is not an over exaggeration but it tasted like what mop water smells. Never again I'd visit this place. I decided to order carry out from here since it's so convenient to the Jewel in the same plaza. The Beef Lo Mein noodles were pretty good, but very greasy. There was a pool of grease at the bottom of the bowl! Felt a little gross after eating it. Some pieces of beef were tasty, while others were fatty. The vegetable spring roll was very affordable ($3.50) but nothing special and kind of bland. I'm surprised the reviews are so good. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. read more

You don't feel heavy after eating, and the portion sizes are not too big. - Really good noodles! Bouncy texture and fresh taste. Rice is good too. - Inside is clean, decor is modern. I was looking for a Friday night dinner spot and was surprised to see J's Kitchen show up in my search for halal restaurants! I hurried on over and confirmed they have a whole separate halal menu. The interior is okay, but I would have liked more Chinese decor. I have to say, the kitchen is rather loud. I suppose all restaurant kitchens are loud, but this one is not closed in, so the noise emanates to the dining area. Service was friendly. Anyway, we ordered the Sichuan beef burger starter, Spicy beef noodle soup, and stir-fry pepper chicken over rice. The burgers were not really burgers. It was meat chunks stuffed inside something like an English muffin. They were dry and had a familiar flavor of Indian food, so I doubt it was authentic. Not bad, though. The beef soup was excellent. The noodles were thick and hearty, and there was a generous amount of beef. This would be perfect for a cold winter night. The stir-fry chicken was pretty good. It had some kick to it thanks to the peppers, but not overly spicy. We enjoyed the food overall and didn't feel like it was overly greasy or heavy. read more

I've only been here twice. One when they first opened (their menu looked a lot different vs now) and one a year later. Service was average, I didn't encounter any rudeness. Place was clean. First time I came here, there was a large Indian group so there was rice everywhere due to the kids. Kids and rice don't mix. I haven't tried the chicken wings that they do now. When they first opened, it was very dry and tough. The braised beef shank slides are good but not for $9. For $9, the portion needs to be larger. The spicy beef noodle soup is good. 4/5. You can hardly find a Halal Chinese restaurant in Chicago let alone in the burbs and J's Kitchen is one of these rare find. Not only is their menu completely Halal but the food is also top notch. All of the ingredients are fresh and the taste of their regional dishes are very authentic. Great Chinese restaurant that seems up and coming in an unlikely strip mall. I am very glad that J's Kitchen opened up close to downtown Naperville. FYI you need to pay at the front. They're not very informative or nice about it. The last time we dined in we were brought the check at our table. This time around...we sat around for maybe 15+ minutes waiting and trying to get the attention of someone but I guess the server was busy or didn't care to check up on us. While waiting, we got stared at by the other customers - which being Chinese myself I can take as both common and rude at the same time. I tried a bunch of dishes here but I do think they are more better at their noodle dishes. The rice bowls are a good starter into this type of cuisine if you are new to it. I like how you are able to get veggies with your meal too. If your dish does not include them, I highly recommend getting the smashed cucumbers. It's really good and garlicky. When J's Kitchen first opened, they were also providing complimentary dessert. It was different! I've never had mashed taro before and although it wasn't my favorite I was glad I got to try something I would have never wanted to order myself. This place is a good option for lunch or dinner. Loved the spicy beef noodle soup here...honestly the best in the area! The noodles are freshly homemade and hand-pulled, which give them that extra bite that makes them so much better than regular store-bought noodles. The broth is incredibly flavorful and doesn't go overboard with the spice - the spiciness level is just right. My bowl had three large pieces of beef, which was a good portion size - although I would have liked more accompanying vegetables, especially mushrooms since there weren't many in my bowl. The smashed cucumber salad with garlic sauce had decent flavor, but more garlic sauce was definitely needed compared to the amount of cucumber that was given. J's Kitchen is a nice, new casual strip mall eatery with a quality Sichuan style (Northern Chinese) menu.  You order with and pay the receptionist, find a table, and they bring the food to you when ready.  They currently have a very attractive $15 lunch special deal (11am - 3pm) which includes a starter, a main dish, and a drink.  It's a great deal firstly because there's plenty of authentic and delicious food, and secondly starters alone can range from $5-$9 and main dishes from $12-$13.  We both also had their plum juice for the drink which alone goes for $3.  The starter with the lunch special is a smaller serving than the regular starter, but it's still a deal.  So, the wife ordered their braised beef shank slices and garlic pork ribs over rice.  I ordered their signature Sichuan style beef burger and signature spicy beef noodle soup (but easy on the spice level).  All of the meats were tasty and flavorful and the thick noodles in the soup were well made with a good fresh texture. The lunch special was also a particularly nice way for us to try a variety of their dishes.  You can tell the dishes are fresh and made to order as there was a little bit of a wait and they came out piping hot.  We were the only ones dining in at this weekday lunch time, but we did see several carryout orders (not surprising given that they're located in a strip mall with a Jewel).  The server/receptionist was friendly and the ladies working the open kitchen were visible at times.  Their space is clean and airy. Thanks to their biggest fan for sending us here with her glowing Yelp reviews.  We would never have heard of this hidden gem place otherwise, and there's tons of eatery competition in Naperville.  Check 'em out if you're having a hankering for good Sichuan style servings! read more

I have driven past this little gem hundreds of times and never saw it. Tucked in between Jewel and several other stores. A local friend suggested it for lunch and I'm glad he did. It's not a huge place but plenty of seating. They do a robust take out business as well with online ordering available. No problem getting a seat at lunch on a Wednesday. They have a nice lunch special with an appetizer, entree and a drink for $15. Sold! I had their famous spicy beef noodle soup and the pan fried dumplings. Dumplings come with a spicy chili oil for dipping and are larger than finger size. Good texture and flavor. The beef noodle soup is fantastic. Homemade noodles with a good chew. Tender beef that is easily eaten with fork or chopsticks. The broth is amazing and I unapologetically slurped every drop. Service was fast and friendly. I look forward to my next visit and sampling more on the menu. read more

An amazing Chinese place in the heart of Naperville. I went with a couple of friends for lunch and we were blown away at the quality of the food and the service. Nice, clean, new location next to Jewel. To start we had the Sweet & Sour Plum Juice. I had never had that before, but it was not too sweet, not too tart, It was a great way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Noodles and was not disappointed. The meat was tender and juicy, the noodles cooked perfectly, and the soup was spicy and tasty. Not so spicy that I couldn't taste the perfect beef broth. My friends ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and the Sichuan Style Spiced Beef over rice, and they devoured it. I wish I could have had a bite to just taste, but they ate it very quickly. We could have had dessert, but were stuffed, so we will get that later. We will definitely be back again. Worked well for me with what was offered the tea was delicious not to sweet flavorful and the tart did not go it fit me it was a chestnut tart and was not very sweet. Bowl of Yum Their main dishes seem to be soups and come in big bowls. I ordered the J's Signature spicy beef noodle soup and it was very tasty. I don't know the history of this dish, but I can tell you that I have been to Katie's Dumplings, another Chinese noodle house in the area, and this soup is exactly the same. I have been getting that soup from Katie's Dumplings for the last 15 years. That said, I'll say that you should try it at both places and see who makes it better. We also got the Chasu Ramen which was good. For Ramen I'd recommend other Ramen places, but this wasn't bad. We tried an appetizer the Chinese style shredded potato salad with chili dressing. I had never had anything like that before so I don't have anything to compare it to. Some people thought it was bland, but I thought it was ok. For drinks we tried their cheezo teas. Again, not sure if this is a traditional Chinese drink or something they made up. It reminded me of a bubble tea but different. They call it cheese but I think it's just whipped cream mixed with the flavor tea or drink you get. So I tried the Cheezo green tea which was like green tea mixed with whipped cream. It's probably as sweet as a bubble tea but doesn't have the boba tapioca bubbles. Food is very much to the tongue of the beholder.... Some people like it and some people don't. Some people I was with didn't care for this place. I'm indifferent to be honest, but I'd recommend you try it. My one complaint is about their service. It wasn't very crowded when we went and there were only a couple other tables of people, but the service was pretty bad. I can't imagine going on a night when it's more crowded. My recommendation to the owners / manager would be to hire another server. Good or bad service can make or break your ratings and restaurant. read more

Every time I come here it's on point, the dry, wet noodles & dumplings are my go to. The service was on point each time with the staff answering my many questions & not getting frustrated.
