I can't say enough good things about this place. Very comfy inside and smells amazing as soon as you pull in the parking lot. I'm a bbq guy and got the ribs. They're exactly my style, great smoke flavor, great rub, and while tender they have a bit of a bite to them. Just the way I like it. The Mac and cheese was just like mom makes it, amazing. I got the spicy green beans and they were also tasty. The collards, what can I say, my wife could NOT stop talking about how good the collards greens were they were the first thing gone from her plate. The BBQ sauce was a bit sweet which normally isn't my thing but there is some secret ingredient in there I couldn't put my finger on that made me not be able to resist it. Lastly Michelle is high energy and fun. What a friendly person. Also loved her "Boss Lady" sign, I totally believe it. Great people, great food. If you're ever in town you've gotta swing by. Working in Cartersville this week and wanted some good "Soul Food" (actually, I was looking for some Chitlins!!). I did a Google search and it said that J's sold chitlins. I'm thinking "where" cause this area doesn't look like the part. After riding down the road I started to have my doubts. When I got to the place and walked inside all of my doubts were gone. The smell of fresh burning wood and BBQ smoke made me hungrier than I already was. I was greeted by a very kind-hearted young woman (Part-owner). When I told her how I got there, we both laughed out loud and shared common thoughts on this experience. I ordered the brisket dinner w/Mac&cheese, spicy green beans and corn bread. This place is for take out really . 4 high top tables in a cramped space, no table service, is the dine in option. small patio tables out front but place sits just a few feet from the highway and traffic is constant and loud. If I rate it for the food it's 4 stars. If rate it as a restaurant it's 2 stars or a 3 overall. It's good food. I had the sampler plate of pulled pork, brisket and chicken with baked beans and coleslaw. Baked Beans were "ok " but I did not care at all for the slaw. Personal taste leans more towards creamy slaw and this is all about the vinegar, which many prefer. My dinner companion had fried chicken and said it was very good. read more

My husband & I have been there several times over the years and we've always enjoyed their food, so we stopped by last Saturday evening for dinner. We were VERY disappointed because they no longer have a server, you have to go up to the counter to order, they only offer canned soft drinks, bottled sweet tea, and what tasted like horrible, Kool-aid lemonade to drink. I don't drink sweet tea, so I asked for a cup so I could dilute the sweet tea with my water, but they don't have cups. They were completely out of ribs and brisket, and they don't offer Brunswick stew, the potato salad tastes like it's been ordered from a food delivery service, and you have to use plastic utensils. The tables and chairs are high tops, and I can't sit on those because I have issues with my knees, so it's painful for my legs to hang off of a barstool. I'm assuming it was their granddaughter taking orders and she had loud, annoying music playing with headphones on. It was apparent that she couldn't care less if you ordered from them or not, and she never even gave you direct eye contact. Since I couldn't sit on the barstools and the music was so irritating, we went outside to eat on the patio, but between the constant flies trying to land on our food, and the loud traffic whizzing by, it was not enjoyable at all. We also tried to order banana pudding, but they were out, so we got peach cobbler and it was nothing but lots of breading with just a few, tiny pieces of peaches it. Went back, merely for the brisket! That says a lot because it was an hour drive. Knowing the system now, I called ahead. This time I had ribs, brisket & fried chicken. I ate off of it for two days - don't judge me. LOL Brisket was tasty but drier than first time but still very good! Ribs were really good! Yes, sir! Fried chicken, pretty good too. White, Ga is a drive but the food is good. It's just cooled off by the time you return. I will not be eating here. It was my first time here and I drove up to the window and he wouldn't take my order insisting this window was for pickup only. I was by myself and only ordering lunch. (pulled pork sandwich, fries, and a tea). There was no customers in line and this clown wanted me to take a menu pull to a parking spot, call my (small order) in, then pull back to the window to be served. He could've took my order and informed me of their process, but no, he decided to be rude and kept pointing at a sign on his window. Not my loss. I still eat lunch elsewhere and he loss what could've been a repeat customer considering I work in the area. Food smelled heavenly! Too bad we left because we could not get the person at the counter to even greet us! Too involved in the phone. We stood for a while. The website showed tables but there were none. We both felt unwelcome. The person at the counter never asked if we had questions or engaged us at all. We visited the cute little restaurant in White, GA. The owner greeted us and was super nice. We didn't know what to order, so he offered us some samples. We had the brisket and the pulled pork, and we were so impressed! He also shared some sauces, and the flavor was perfect. He then brought us out a sampling of the sides, and the ones we tried were great! I saw this place on the way to/from my daughter's home and decided to stop in to pick up dinner. It's a take out restaurant with fantastic food (a few outside tables to sit and enjoy your meal). I'd read the brisket was delicious but sadly they were out. I ordered the ribs and wow! We were not disappointed! The ribs were melt-in-your-mouth and fall-off-the-bone delicious!! Oh hell yes! Hopped off I75 to grab some lunch. Only about 3 miles of the interstate and I'd even walk it to eat here again! Nice, clean interior. Friendly folks. Ah-mazing food! I had the brisket, so tender and flavorful. Honey enjoyed the ribs. Their sauces are on point. We shared sides of fries, green beans, baked beans, collards and macncheese. All were soo good. Our family was heading back from white water rafting on the Ocoee river, from being on the water for 4 hours we were starving but didn't want to waste money on fast food so we decided to stop at the next restaurant place along our path that looked decent. So we spotted J's soul food and pulled in to give it a try. At the time there credit card machine was done so they excepted cash only. Which put a small snag in our plan as we carry no cash, after asking a customer eating on the patio , and the customer even sharing his rib piece we were convinced we needed to run to dollar general for cash back . They closed within the hour so my expectations were low, however the quality of the food was amazing, absolutely delicious. We order the rib plate and 2 sides, I had ribs Mac and cheese , and greens, my boyfriend had ribs, dressing and the sauce was the best I've ever tasted . Everything was my favorite, especially the Texas bread. After smashing our food we were definitely convinced this place has some of the best bbq around. Never knew of the place before our run in but so happy we stopped. And realize it's only 25 minutes from our house, I'm already planning to go back to try the fried chicken and cake it's black owned, and operated and comes with a A rating score . You can taste the love, poured into the food , you can't get eating at Applebees but only at family business because they truly love what they do.. Next best thing to big mama's cooking. The food is exceptional. But the service is quite possibly the worst I've ever received in my life. The owners son borders on what felt like discriminatory. He looked for reasons not to serve me. I hesitated on writing this review for a while but I was beyond insulted and inflamed when I left the last time. If it was the only place to eat in town and my kitchen was gutted, I'd drive to another town. Sir, you can not treat people as an inconvenience to your day. I'm no BBQ connoisseur, but I am a delicious food connoisseur. I judge food on whether or not what I eat is something I will crave and HAVE to have. Yes...to EVERYTHING I ordered. Like....if I didn't still have leftovers, I'd be going back today! We got the pulled pork with cornbread dressing and fried okra and ribs with baked beans and collards. For dessert we got coconut cake and caramel cake. The pulled pork was amazing, not dry or overcooked and mushy like I've gotten at a few other places. The mild BBQ sauce is sweet and not thick, but not thin....and it's probably my favorite I've ever had honestly. Fried okra was cooked to order and lightly breaded with cornmeal. The cornbread dressing....man.....it's gonna live in my heart as the best I've ever had (but don't tell my mama that!). It's very moist, has shredded chunks of turkey, some peppers (I think, but it wasn't spicy at all) and has a sweetness to it. I mean....I need more NOW. The ribs were fall off the bone, not fatty, and the dry rub was so good you didn't need any sauce. That's a first for me. The baked beans....I think I need those right now too. There's meat in them and they have sort of a peppery taste maybe? The collards...absolutely DELICIOUS! These folks really know they're southern foods! The cakes are worth stopping by to get all on their own. They are so incredibly moist and the frosting on both was absolutely delectable! Somebody's mama had to have made these. I can't wait to try all the others! I heard while I was there they also have pecan pie and sweet potato pie. But how do you choose between cake and pie when the cakes you've already had are so dang gooooood?!?!? Right now, it's take out only. There is a drive-thru and I noticed lots of orders seemed to have been called in in advance (which I'll probably do myself next time). I was up the street at pinelog WMA and decided to stop for some food before I drove home. I ordered the brisket w/ spicy green beans + mac. Solid, solid BBQ. The green beans surprised me, because most bbq/soul places I've been to, don't have these and they're worth getting. I ate my plate in the truck, and was so shocked I went back in and ordered a second for myself and a third for my fiancé. Ordered white fried chicken meal with collars and mashed/gravy.
